Things you need to know about Evan: -He's extremely responsive and ensures that you can reach him at any time- including after hours and on weekends -He's well versed in Alaska family law and can give you realistic expectations for your case while also advocating for your best interest. -He will not let the opposing party, or the judge, bully you into accepting something that isn't fairly in your best interest. -He's thorough and detail-oriented. He will pay attention to the nuances of your case and won't allow things to fall through the cracks. Now, my full review: I found Evan in August 2023 after being blindsided by an unexpected custody modification motion that was based on lies and hurtful accusations. I am in Illinois. My originally custody agreement was created in Alaska, albeit my child had never been in Alaska. Her father filed there for dissolution and was willing to give me full custody so the divorce was uncontested and child custody was wrongfully established in the wrong state. Evan responded to the motion to modify with a request to vacate the original custody order entirely- as it was wrongfully established. The judge denied our motion, but Evan was very confident that his ruling was wrong and offered the option of taking my case to the Supreme Court with a Petition for Review (similar to an appeal). After 10 months of fighting endless motions from the other side (all of which were filled with hurtful lies and damaging accusations), and having a hearing at the Supreme Court, my Petition for Review was granted and my original custody order in Alaska was vacated. My custody case is now in Illinois, the rightful jurisdiction. Throughout this entire time, Evan recieved almost weekly emails from me. Many custody disputes occurred between the opposing party and I. Evan responded to me promptly- including addressing emergencies on the weekends AND over the Thanksgiving holiday. He always gave honest advice and was empathetic to my complex and nerve-wracking situation. Although I have absolutely no legal education, when I brought case law or hypotheticals to his attention he willingly listened and provided further insight. He never made me feel as though I was wasting his time. When Evan spoke to witnesses and professional advocates who work with my child he was courteous, respectful, and took notes of their concerns. He treated my case as if he was fighting for his own child and understood all of the intricacies involved. He did all of this, while never meeting me in person. I fought this entire case, with his help, from my home in Illinois. We interacted through the phone and email. Even so, as my contract with Evan comes to a close, I can say with full honesty that Evan is the best lawyer I ever could have asked for. He genuinely cares for his clients. The cases he takes on, he puts 110% effort into. He is honest, professional, well-spoken, and extremely educated in Alaska law. In the unfortunate situation that I need an AK lawyer again in the future, Evan is the ONLY person I'll go to. If any of my friends or family in Alaska need a lawyer, Evan is the ONLY person I'd recommend. It was full of bumps setbacks and disappointments. The child support case was a intentional loss for for the financial gain of Evan Barrickman Evan Barrickman is a double headed rooster with one head he will pluck your bank account clean tell there’s nothing there and with his other head, he will sit in his roost with his feathers all ruffled saying no no I want that case I beat my client

Evan has worked diligently on my behalf. Going through child custody is not an easy ordeal to go through. I've faced multiple attempts from the other parent to break up our 50/50 agreement and they all have been unsuccessful. I've worked with Evan since 2018 and he is professional and comes well prepared. With Evan's legal representation I've had one protective order dismissed and another overturned within a calendar year. As stated above these legal attempts to oust me out of my child custody agreement were flawed and groundless. Child custody can be an ugly process to experience. Chosing this law firm has been one of the bright spots in this process. I understand it's a financial hurdle to hire an attorney but if you decide to hire an attorney I would recommend this law firm.

MR. Brakeman listened to my case on an initial phone consultation. He let me know what I was up against and helped educate me on the whole process. Many other people led me to believe I would not fare well in court. Mr. Brakeman was honest right up front and said typically people in my position do not always fair well. Despite that, he felt we could present a case that was compelling enough for a more favorable outcome. Our initial court hearing did not go as well as we hoped. Despite that, he did manage to gain a lot of ground which I thought was impossible. Mr. Barrickman felt the evidence we presented had not been looked at correctly and the court had made mistakes. He challenged the courts finding and was successful. We could have kept fighting it out for even more gains. Mr Barrickman and I both felt we had done very well and was not sure if spending more time and money would guarantee and further gains. I really appreciate that he kept me calm and in reality. He was extremely polite and attentive to my needs. My fears was to hire a lawyer that wanted to keep running up the bills. Mr Barrickman was well organized and very focused on my case. Many times he advised me in ways to help reduce cost in his representation of my case. I recommend MR. Barrickman and would seek his representation again if needed. He really went all out to help me.

I feel one of the most important things to consider about this review is that I am not from Anchorage, nor do I live in the state of Alaska. I had to handle my case roughly 4,000 miles away and I was nervous to say the least. I don't know many people in Anchorage so it wasn't like I could call around and ask friends if they knew anything about family law and take recommendations for lawyers. During one of the most stressful times in my life, I had to rely on google to lead me in the direction of a solid lawyer. I am so thankful that I didn't choose poorly. I cannot stress enough how happy I am with Evan's services. Truly. I called his office, completely unprepared to speak with a lawyer (because they usually don'y answer their own phones), and I told him all about my case. In the same conversation, he told me it would be complicated and that he couldn't guarantee an outcome (as they all say, but really, the outcome could've went either way), but that he would take the case. He worked for our winning outcome. The documents that he created were quality work that has received plenty of praise since. He is personable, communicates like a real person, and replies in a timely manner. He is a busy person, but you'd think he was only working for you with the way he discusses the case like it's his only priority. His efforts show through his work. Like I said before, the case was complicated. I remember going into the hearing and thinking, "no matter what happens, I'm glad I got to work with Evan because he really cared." We won. But I would give this same review regardless. He is good. More than good. Hire him.

Evan Barrickman was the perfect attorney for my custody relocation case. Evan showed compassion, an outstanding work ethic and a genuine concern for me and my family throughout this very stressful process. He is thorough and was on top of everything. He was very responsive and communicated when he needed to and is a real straight shooter. We won our case against a very tough attorney and because of him, our family stays together here in Alaska and I will be able to be in my children's lives. Evan is an outstanding attorney. He is a straight-talker who won't tell you what you want to hear, but what you need to know. I first hired him to represent me in a ridiculous DVPO case.
