Our 12 month old baby girl at the time had a vaccine reaction 5 days after receiving the MMR vaccine at her 1 year wellness check. She woke up completely cross eyed and regressed in her talking and walking only to confirm by a Pediatric Neuro Ophthalmologist that our daughter had a vaccine reaction causing her to be diagnosed with 6th nerve palsy. When I went for an annual physical, my doctor recommended I get the pneumonia vaccine while in the office. Her medical assistant administered the vaccine injection in my upper left shoulder. The injection was the most painful I had ever received — it took my breath away and I almost passed out. I knew something was very wrong and unfortunately, it never stopped hurting. My PCP did not take any responsibility for the situation so I decided to see a shoulder specialist. He ordered an MRI and it showed a significant amount of fluid in the joint. The vaccine was injected into my joint instead of the muscle. A month later I had surgery to drain the excessive fluid and clean up my shoulder. After months of PT and rehab, I still have a painful shoulder. I did find a medical malpractice attorney who was ready to take the case, but then I found out about the Vaccine Injury Program which led me to Drew. My mother received the Prevnar-13 vaccine in February 2019 and shortly after was diagnosed with Guillain Barre syndrome. Within days of vaccine administration my mother began to develop symptoms of weakness and within the first 30 days after vaccination was intubated, sedated and in a coma. After 4 years of hospitalizations, rehabilitation centers, and skilled nursing facilities she now qualifies as a ‘functional quadriplegic’.
