First of all, do not tackle filing bankruptcy on your own. It's a very complex process. Hire an attorney. Filed Chapter 7 with Kathryn Johnson. She was very nice, understanding and honest upfront. I spoke to about 6 other Laywers and Kathryn was not intimidating or cocky in person or over the phone and made me feel very comfortable from begging to end. Prior hiring Kathy, I had my own thoughts similar to those negatives such as the stigma of filing bankruptcy, it being very difficult to carryout, and that it was a disastrous event to incur. From my initial consultation just getting the bankruptcy process started was cleared up as Kathy was: patient, answered all my questions, and made me aware of things I shouldn’t do that unbeknownst to me would only delay being able to file bankruptcy. In comparison to other bankruptcy lawyer consultations I had, I felt she was exceptionally seasoned in bankruptcy proceedings. Due to the COVID-19 climate, I was somewhat hesitant to retain her as I never met her in person aside from a video meeting.
