My roommate and I were being sued by (and were counter-suing) our crazy ex-landlord in small claims court. The judge, shockingly, ignored state landlord-tenant laws and ruled in favor of our landlord, so we filed an appeal. Four days prior to the hearing for our appeal, my father strongly recommended that I try to hire (or at least consult with) an attorney before the hearing. Not wanting to be blindsided by another ruling (nor wanting to be subject to eternal "I told you so" comments from Daddy), I started scrambling to try to find someone who had the time to dispense some legal advice. I believe I called, and left messages for, 12-15 attorneys that Monday afternoon. The following morning, I received my first call back from Ed Schwartz. I live in Carlsbad, and was not looking forward to driving all the way to downtown SD to meet with him, but I was so happy that Ed agreed to fit in my consultation that it didn't matter...but I was thrilled when Ed told me that, since he lived in North County as well, he would be happy to meet me somewhere closer. We met at a Starbucks the following morning. Ed was there early, and seemed just as prepared as I was: he had already made notes about points he wanted to discuss and some questions he had. I had been fairly confident in my preparation and had done hours' of research, but Ed had a bunch of great suggestions and advice that I hadn't found anywhere else. He instructed me about how to follow court procedures and gave me hints on how to handle the crazy landlord. He also reviewed all my evidence with me, and gave me his feedback and recommendations about which items to leave out and which ones to really focus on, as well as tips on presenting the evidence and asking the court to admit the items. He also taught me about the reasons to object to testimony from the other party, and about the types of grounds on which we could object. When the consultation was finished, Ed recommended that I find and review a specific legal text and asked me to be sure to update him after we received our verdict. I actually called him again the very next day, though, with a couple more questions, which he was gracious enough to answer. And we WON our hearing!! I feel sure that my consultation with Ed was a HUGE factor in our victory, and I'm so thankful that I found him and that he was able to find some time the very next day to squeeze in a consultation. I hadn't felt very hopeful that I would be able to find someone to help on such short notice, and assumed that, if I were able to get an appointment with someone, they might not be a high-quality attorney. Ed showed me that I was wrong on both counts, and I recommend him without hesitation. I will be calling him if I ever need legal help again (but I hope I won't!) Thank you SO much, Ed, for helping my roommate and I get back the $5,000 which our evil ex-landlord almost got away with stealing from us!

I was dealing with a "sticky" tenant issue and retaining Ed very possibly saved us 1000's of dollars and perhaps loss of sleep!!! After speaking with Ed, I have a better idea of how to approach my case. He referred me to attorneys more suited to help me my specific case. I'm glad I got the chance to speak with Ed. I met Ed at a legal clinic for Senior's. I could not have met a better attorney and a better person. Although soft-spoken, I explained my issues to Ed, and he listened attentively. Lucky for me, the problem I was having was already in Ed's resume, and he gave me more than one way to win my case. Seeing that other reviews say Ed is gracious, has a pleasant personality (which I agree), etc., he is also extremely knowledgeable, has a take-charge attitude (which I appreciated), and set me on a path to win my case. When speaking to Ed, he doesn't sound like an attorney, you immediately feel at ease with him, like I am talking to a brother. That being said, when and if I again need legal representation, I will choose Ed, I trust him, and you should too.

Ed came through for me on an issue I had been running round and round with for months against a large corporation. Shortly after he engaged, the company offered a settlement to quickly and painlessly resolve the matter - his experience outside the legal world was of tremendous value and gives him a well rounded and balanced ability.
