First of all, if you are reading this review, you are might be nervous, scared and wondering what is going to be your future. I get it, was there just like you are now. There is hope!!!! Before I got to talk to Norma, I actually talked to/interviewed around 10 local lawyers. There were some that answered immediately, and were ready to file for Chapter 7 or Chapter 13, without knowing anything about my financial situation. How can they be so eager to get you in a plan without the facts? Emails with contracts and retainers followed shortly. Some were really pushing the Chapter 13- they make more money. One lawyer suggested that I needed to buy a new car, with a monthly payment around $600. I was like, what? One lawyer, after the free consultation session harassed me for 3 or 4 days to sign the retainer – because “is the law”. No, nobody can push you to do so. And then, there is Southern California Law Advocates. To me, they really set themselves apart from any other firm and lawyer I talked to. Just by the notes in their blog, you can see Norma is different. I suggest you read the blog posts, and pay attention to each of the documents, scenarios that might apply to you. I got my free consultation. My initial questions answered. Signed the retainer. Completed the first questionnaire to see which would be the best option for me. You then have to sign the contract, and start the payments. Is up to you how you pay, monthly, lump sum. It is until you have paid everything upfront- at least for Chapter 7, then the real craziness start. Craziness, because now you are required to provide all kind of documents. So, be prepared. It is up to you to be in schedule. Nobody is going to chase you. If you want it, you have to put the time. If you miss your deadlines, the filing moves to the next month, and now newer documents are required. Make sure you are on top of things. Julie is the assistant and she works with you, providing your required target documents and deadlines. Julie is there to answer questions about documents and she is really helpful. There are times that you will need to talk to Norma, and for that be ready to wing it, as she calls when she has time. You never know when the call is coming. Norma will answer your questions and will prepare you for the forthcoming meetings. It is a stressful time, you worry about this and that, but working with Norma and Julie really made things easier. I would recommend Southern CA Law without hesitation. Good luck!
