I interviewed three different firms in the area to make the most informed decision possible. While the other firms were fine, I felt more like a cookie-cutter customer receiving a sales pitch. I knew I had the right person when I interviewed Mark and he spent time to inform me on the process, yet listen to my needs and concerns in order to accommodate them into my trust. Here's my list of perks I found working with Mark that other firms didn't seem to provide: He is very professional (but not cold!), and it's obvious he cares a lot about protecting his clients. He makes no lofty promises and gives it to you straight, pulling from his years of experience witnessing how other trusts have played out in the end. Mark builds an on-going relationship with you to keep your living trust current to ever-changing laws and life situations (a yearly check-in). Other firms treated the trust as a one-and-done transaction. I've had other firms promise me that they could easily include my out-of-state property without consulting a professional in that particular state. Not good. There are SO many things that can go wrong between different state laws. Mark was adamant I find the correct people to get this essential piece of the puzzle transferred into my trust. He doesn't take chances with the future of your assets! Between his office being part of a thriving legal firm and his years of experience as a police sergeant, Mark is very experienced and well-connected. Seriously. As a younger person taking my first steps into the world of business and lawyers, I'm so happy to have found Mark who can help connect me to the legal and professional resources I need beyond estate planning. Now, the problem with writing reviews about wills and trusts, you really couldn't rate their efficacy until you're gone, right? Regardless, I feel confident Mark is the best lawyer to protect my assets and medical choices if anything happens to me in the future. He seriously took a huge load off my mind. I was recently trying to get our family's finances in order since we have a kid in college and one going soon. Wondering what we could afford with education expenses, vacations, cars for our young drivers, etc., I kept getting lectured about not having a trust set up. I figured that our life was pretty basic and simple--both of us work, we have two kids, one dog, one house, some savings, no extra properties or anything special. Still, I decided to look into it, because I knew we were overdue in doing that. I looked at online forms like LegalZoom but thought maybe I should get a professional opinion. I like to do my research online and discovered several attorneys via Yelp. After consulting with a few of them, one stood out amongst all of them--Mark Swatik. I had called his office and we connected very quickly. During the free consultation, I came to the realization that our trust was not as simple as I had thought. I am so glad I didn't try to DIY it! Mark was very reassuring and answered all of our questions, no matter how silly they were. He has a very calm and patient manner and really put us at ease. I didn't feel like he was pushing us to go with him at all or that he was speaking over our heads. It was an eye-opening meeting for sure. I was a little nervous about cost as I'd seen somewhere an hourly rate, but discovered that Mark charges a flat rate for trusts, once the scope of it is clear. It was definitely competitive to the other lawyers I met with and even lower than a few! (His hourly rate is generally for people administering trusts after people pass away or when there's fighting when someone dies and there is no set end time, just fyi, in case you were wondering!). Anyway, a week and a half later and our living trust is complete! 85+ customized pages that detail how our estate is to be handled not just when we pass, but if something happens to us that leaves us where we can't make our own financial decisions (God forbid). I loved our experience with Mark and would totally recommend him as the best trust attorney in the South Bay!

Mark is more than a consummate professional, he is an educator and took an incredible amount of time to make sure that we understood the trust, the law and gave us all the advantages so that our last wishes and what we leave to our son, were first and foremost the most important item in our lives. Guys....Mark is awesome and everyone.... I MEAN EVERYONE should do themselves a favor for themselves, for their spouses, for their offspring, and future self to take the time to meet with him. My husband and I recently had our first child and started thinking about a future and what would legally happen to our child if something unspeakable happened to us. Enter Mark Swatik. Mark helped us set up our family estate in a jif. (it took approx 2 weeks from our first meeting to completing our trust.) Mark helped explain a lot of legal jargon about how to protect our assets and family. He said "it's only a matter of time this trust will come into effect, so better now than later. The longer you put it off, the more you risk." He also said more than $6million/year goes to the government because proper trusts are not in place. I left our meeting so energized about our Estate planning that I basically called everyone I knew and told them they also needed to set something up. Guardianship, medical directives, liquid assets, etc. all are covered in our estate so we can rest easy knowing everything has been taken care of by Mark and his team. He will initially meet with you for free so call him now!!!! Stop wasting time!!!!!

Several years ago my In-Laws discussed their Living Trust with my wife and I. Since we had young children at the time, we thought it would be a good idea to consider a Living Trust for ourselves.
