I was a step parent of my daughter when she was just 3 months old. My daughter’s biological father was not in the picture, never was. My wife & I did not know where to start in the adoption process. We did our search for lawyers when we came across Hartley Lamas ET Al and we never looked back! Carla and every staff member took their time to ensure we knew what our process was going to look like. The process took over a year and this was just due to California law time frames needing to be met. Carla & her staff are true professionals at their line of work. A year later, I got all rights of my daughter and was able to adopt her and change her last name to mine as well. It’s been a true blessing having Carla & staff help us throughout it all! Always keeping us in the loop, any status updates and informing us what other forms my wife and I needed to turn in. Carla was amazing through my divorce process. She stayed focused on the most important thing, my daughter. Kept me grounded and guided me through the most difficult time in my life with grace and a clear plan. She communicated the plan clearly and ensured I understood what was she was saying even the legalease. We had a very complex termination of parental rights case that got caught up in all of the COVID delays. Carla and her team despite many, many continuances from the other side and the court, were diligent to keep everyone focused and on task. Her strategy was solid from the beginning and we did prevail in the case. Her team is very responsive and also cognizant of spending your money by keeping communication on point. In early 2020, after leaving the California court system with a feeling of being cast away, thrown out and discarded, it was recommended that I seek counsel to assist with my request to modify my child custody and visitation agreement from out of state. After doing some research, I knew that I needed a home run hitter in my corner. A firm that could navigate the troublesome waters of my particular situation. On the date of my court appearance, we made it a point to see each other and finally put a face to the name I had always went out of her way to make it known I was taken care of. A face to the name that I associate with a phone call that I want to get. And a face to the name that I wanted to give a hug to for taking care of me along the way. Prior to contacting Hartley Lamas I had consulted 5-6 other attorneys in Ventura County. At each consultation I learned the attorney’s fees and how said fees were calculated but I learned little to nothing about anything else so after each consultation I left feeling confused, defeated and hopeless... Carla Hartley was my saving grace. From the second my call was answered by HL staff, I felt a sense of relief. I was treated with kindness and understanding and there were questions answered and information given that I didn’t even know I needed to know, like did I have to contact my future ex’s attorney as the letter I received from said attorney stated and when did my ex file since I had no idea this was coming till I received that letter from my ex’s attorney.
