To provide some context, I was facing my fourth drug charge with a record spanning over 30 years, including past convictions for drug sales and a violation of the CORA act. I was arrested with 180 grams of cocaine and was initially offered a plea deal of 10 years, suspended after 5 to serve with 5 years probation, it was an “Accept or Reject” offer which means "take it or leave it" and go to trial. If I go to trial, I would face the terrifying possibility of a 30-year sentence. Both the prosecution and the judge were unyielding.
