Robert defended me and my company in an EPA trial in 2006-07. I was kept well informed of all my options and Robert pursued any that would defend me and offered all to the government that might be benificial to my case.Eventually, the trial ended in a second mis-trial due to information not offered in the time frame allowed by the government attornies.I believe many attornies would not have objected, and the trial could have resulted in much worse fines and punishment. Even though I felt the charges did not merit the punishment,I was very fortunate to have someone as knowledgeable as Robert.I would not change attornies if I had to go through the ordeal again.

Unlike many lawyers we found him to be very approachable, down to earth, reasonable, and up front about things. In addition to reasonably and affordably priced. He is genuinely friendly and a great guy, we always have a good laugh and enjoy our meetings. We call him anytime we need any "legal" matters taken care of and he always comes through. I keep his card in my wallet, and his number in my contacts list. We have had other lawyers before Gaffney, but not since...we just call him now. I suggest you do the same.

I couldn’t afford a lawyer…I had detectives charge me with a substance that wasn’t true. He made the “lab” retest and was able to get charges dropped from a felony to a misdemeanor charge. Trying to prove a cop was lying ain’t easy…he was my Public defender assigned to my case last minute…and he fought tooth and nail. I had only met him once for 15min in person, and he took on my case like a pro. This man cares. And he’ll do what it takes no matter what. Definitely recommend his services.

He takes his time to make sure he thoroughly knows your case, he knows the law and gave me personal attention when I needed it. It may take him a few days to call you back, but that is understandable because he has other clients but when he is focused on your case, you get his full attention. No doubt about that. Mr. Wolfson, has been my attorney on multiple healthcare-associated legal matters. I was impressed by his wealth of knowledge and tenacity in pursuing these difficult cases. No matter how complex the case was, Mr. Wolfson strived arduously to resolve the matter in my favor. Although there were multiple lawyers involved with one particular case, Mr. Wolfson graciously took a lead position and successfully managed these lawyers resulting in an expeditious as well as a successful conclusion to the case. Despite being a solo practitioner, Mr. Wolfson has demonstrated an uncanny ability to gather and analyze the legal facts of the case so as to effectively and efficaciously manage the healthcare matter and to minimize his billings. To date, I have not been able to find any attorney, notwithstanding the specialty of law practiced, as capable as Jay Wolfson in assessing a case as quickly and as thoroughly in order to complete the matter at hand so that his client will be spared the usual and inordinate cost of litigation. Therefore, I unhesitatingly recommend Mr. Wolfson to anyone seeking a competent and knowledgeable attorney who serves his client with compassion and understanding unequal in today's legal arena.

I retained the services of Mr. Pagano several years ago when he was practicing as a criminal defense attorney. I was charged with misdemeanor battery and sexual abuse. Although these were very frightening charges, Mr. Pagano always discussed the case with me in person and carefully went through how the law applied to my particular case. He firmly believed in my innocence and never waivered in his approach to fighting for me at all court hearings. He demonstrated superior knowledge of the law in all his court presentations and motions. Unfortunately, he had to discontinue representing me before my cases concluded because he was appointed as a judge/magistrate for the County Division Courts in Lake County. Based on all my experiences with Attorney Pagano during that two-year period on my case, I would strongly recommend him in the area of criminal law and for any judicial position in the criminal courts. If more people like him were judges, there would be far fewer miscarriages of justice and innocent people would not be wrongly convicted. Mike honestly does the right thing and holds the State to their burden of proof without reservations.

I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for Joshua Tolin’s outstanding representation in my recent federal felony case. Facing 15 felony charges was a terrifying prospect, and I was overwhelmed with fear and uncertainty about the future of my life and my children's lives. However, from the moment I hired him, I knew that I was in good hands. His professionalism and expertise were evident from the very start. He took the time to understand the details of my case and to explain the legal process to me in a clear and concise manner. He always answered my questions patiently and thoroughly, and you never made me feel like I was a burden. His intelligence and strategic thinking were also instrumental in my acquittal. He was able to identify the weaknesses in the prosecution's case and to exploit them effectively. His cross-examination of the witnesses was truly masterful, and he was able to expose the flaws in their testimony with surgical precision. In the end, thanks to Joshua Tolin’s tireless efforts, I was found not guilty of all charges. This outcome has had a profound impact on my life. I am now able to move forward without the fear of a lengthy prison sentence, and I can focus on providing for my family and building a brighter future for us all. Words cannot express how grateful I am for Joshua Tolin’s dedication and commitment to my case. Joshua is a true advocate for justice, and I am forever indebted to him for his service.

I was referred to Charles Thompson to represent me in court after my arrest in West University, Houston, TX. My court date came much more quickly than I had expected, so I called him the day before I was expected in court, and he began representing me. He was not pushy, but quickly and fully informed me of the levity of my situation. His retainer was more reasonable than other quotes I received. He helped me build a positive defense from day 1. He was also familiar with the court of West University and several prosecuting attorneys, so he confidently explained the process that he would go through in trying to resolve my case. I checked in with him once per week while attending college out of state. He inquired with West U and its attorneys about my case, view dashboard camera footage, and communicated all findings to me. A few months later, my case was dismissed and I never had to return to Houston or personally appear in court.

Ames Chamberlin has been more than I ever expected a lawyer could be. Ames has helped me with several criminal offences including a probation violation. Ames has gone above and beyond every time. He has helped me by putting me in contact with the services I have needed such as assessments, counseling classes, and even drug rehabilitation. Ames has always followed up with me and kept me informed with anything involving my cases and frequently checked on my personal well being including coming to the hospital just to see me. Ames has shown me that he truly does care and has been a trusted friend to me aiding me through trying times in my life. He always made me feel like a person and not a client. I have never had any doubt that my best interest was his mission. Ames' knowledge of criminal justice is unparalleled and he has always explained every detail of the law and what my charges ment and the consequences they carried. He has navigated me through several court appearances giving me the ability to feel confident in a courtroom. I was always prepared with an explanation of what was happening weather it was only a first appearance or briefed on what I could expect while at trial. His offices contacted me regularly by mail to insure I was aware of all my court dates and when it was required for me to appear. Ames made himself available for any questions I may have had or even just to settle myself before my appearance. His reliability in handling my cases with the best possible outcomes have made him invaluable and I would never enter a courtroom without him . Marvin is a great lawyer. He is very knowledgeable about the law and will work your case. I ended up firing my previous attorney and Marvin represented me in a Grand Larceny case. It was a minor offense but because I was already serving a sentence, and this would have been my second conviction, he got me off with a slap on the wrist. I ended up doing less time and sentenced to less than the first judge sentenced me to. Marvin has a very dry humor and often that is how he tells you what is going on. This might turn off some people. At first, it turned me off but I realized that this was just his personality and how comes off. In a way, he did not sugarcoat anything. I had that problem with my first attorney. I ended up with a 2 year sentence because he mishandled my case. I was guilty but in our society you get what you pay for in terms of legal representation. I paid heavily and did not get what I paid for(First Attorney). Marvin was the exact opposite. He was pricey at almost $9000 (Thank god to family and friends) but I was very pleased with the service. His office staff are very warm and nice too(Catherine). I am grateful to her for always getting my messages to Marvin, and my family when I could not reach them. They bent over backwards to try to help me deal with my sentence. At times I would call them to contact my family or to make sure I was getting treated fairly in jail/prison. They always went above and beyond. They even wrote a letter to the Warden to get back on a medication I was taking. They had decided to take me off of it even though it was working but a bit pricey(They will get you on cheap stuff in there to cut costs). Thanks to a letter from Marvin, I was placed back on the medication. I do not know what would have happened if I was not placed back on this medication. It was one of the only ones that worked. If you are looking for a good attorney in Fairfax County or Northern Virginia you should consider Marvin Miller. At least you will know you got your moneys worth. He is very professional and in the courtroom conducted himself like an attorney. He stood up to the prosecutor like he was suppose to, and asked the Judge for leniency. My previous attorney was scared and shaking. You need an attorney with balls, that is aggressive, and can get you the least amount of punishment if you are already going to be punished. The legal system in Virginia is ridiculous, and in Fairfax County even more horrifying. So you need someone who can keep you out of trouble. Marvin Miller is the man!!!! I hope I do not need his services again because I am leading a straight and narrow life, but you bet I would call him again if it came to it.

What a Federal Crime Lawyer Can Do for You

A federal crime lawyer specializes in defending individuals or organizations accused of violating federal laws. These lawyers have experience navigating the complex federal criminal justice system, which includes higher penalties, stricter sentencing guidelines, and a different court system than state-level crimes. Federal crime lawyers defend clients against a wide range of charges, such as drug trafficking, white-collar crimes, fraud, conspiracy, gun violations, and more. They assist in every phase of the legal process, from investigation to trial and appeals, ensuring their clients' rights are protected.

If you’re facing federal criminal charges, a federal crime lawyer can provide the necessary defense and expertise to navigate the complexities of federal law and achieve the best possible outcome.

When Should I Hire a Federal Crime Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a federal crime lawyer in any situation where you are under investigation or have been charged with a federal crime. Key scenarios include:

  • Charged with a federal crime: If you’ve been charged with a federal offense, such as drug trafficking, wire fraud, money laundering, or conspiracy, hiring a federal crime lawyer is essential to ensure your defense is tailored to federal court procedures and laws.
  • Target of a federal investigation: If you are being investigated by federal agencies like the FBI, DEA, ATF, or IRS, it’s crucial to retain a lawyer early on. A lawyer can help you avoid self-incrimination and build a defense strategy to counter the investigation.
  • White-collar crimes: If you’ve been accused of federal white-collar crimes such as securities fraud, embezzlement, or insider trading, a lawyer can help defend you against charges brought by federal prosecutors and regulatory agencies like the SEC.
  • Drug-related charges: If you’re facing federal drug charges, such as possession, distribution, or trafficking of controlled substances, a lawyer can represent you in federal court and negotiate plea deals or challenge the prosecution’s case.
  • Gun-related offenses: If you’ve been charged with federal gun crimes, including illegal possession, trafficking, or using a firearm during a violent crime, a federal crime lawyer can help defend against harsh federal penalties.
  • Immigration-related crimes: Federal charges involving immigration violations, such as human trafficking, smuggling, or illegal re-entry after deportation, require specialized legal knowledge of both federal criminal law and immigration law.
  • Appeals: If you’ve been convicted of a federal crime and are seeking to appeal the conviction or sentence, a federal crime lawyer can assist with the appeals process, focusing on legal errors or issues that may have occurred during the trial.

Hiring a lawyer as soon as you know you are under investigation or charged with a federal crime gives you the best chance of protecting your rights and building a strong defense.

What Does a Federal Crime Lawyer Do?

A federal crime lawyer provides a wide range of legal services to defend individuals and organizations accused of federal crimes. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Defending clients in federal court: Federal crime lawyers represent clients in all stages of federal criminal proceedings, including pre-trial motions, plea negotiations, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Building a defense strategy: Lawyers thoroughly investigate the charges, review the prosecution’s evidence, and develop a defense strategy tailored to the unique aspects of federal law and sentencing guidelines.
  • Negotiating plea deals: In some cases, a lawyer may negotiate with federal prosecutors to reduce charges or penalties, potentially avoiding a lengthy trial and reducing sentencing.
  • Handling federal investigations: If you are the subject of a federal investigation, a lawyer will guide you on how to interact with federal agents, respond to subpoenas, and handle potential interrogations, ensuring your rights are not violated.
  • Filing pre-trial motions: Federal crime lawyers can file motions to suppress evidence, dismiss charges, or challenge the legality of the investigation or arrest, aiming to weaken the prosecution’s case before trial.
  • Representing clients in appeals: If you’ve been convicted, a federal crime lawyer can represent you in the appeals process, focusing on legal errors, misconduct, or constitutional issues that may have affected the trial’s outcome.
  • Managing sentencing and post-conviction matters: Lawyers also help clients during the sentencing phase, arguing for leniency or alternatives to imprisonment, and assist with post-conviction matters such as parole or supervised release violations.

How Are Federal Crime Lawyers Paid?

Federal crime lawyers typically charge for their services in various ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the expected time commitment. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many federal crime lawyers charge by the hour, with rates typically ranging from $300 to $1,000 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience, the case complexity, and geographic location.
  • Flat fee: For specific services, such as negotiating a plea deal or representing you during the initial stages of a federal investigation, some lawyers offer a flat fee. Flat fees for federal criminal defense cases often range from $5,000 to $25,000, depending on the scope of the work.
  • Retainer: In complex federal cases, a lawyer may require a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers a portion of the legal work. The lawyer then bills against this retainer as they work on the case. Retainers typically range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the case.
  • Payment plans: Some federal crime lawyers may offer payment plans, especially if the case involves extended litigation or lengthy appeals. This can help make legal fees more manageable over time.

It’s crucial to discuss fees with your lawyer upfront to understand the total cost of representation and how payments will be handled throughout the case.

How Much Does a Federal Crime Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a federal crime lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the time required to resolve the case. General cost estimates include:

  • Hourly rates: Federal crime lawyers generally charge between $300 and $1,000 per hour. For example, if a lawyer charges $500 per hour and spends 50 hours on your case, the total cost would be $25,000.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as negotiating a plea deal, flat fees can range from $5,000 to $25,000 or more, depending on the seriousness of the charges and the lawyer’s experience.
  • Retainers: In more complex or ongoing cases, a lawyer may require a retainer of $10,000 to $100,000, depending on the case’s scope and complexity.
  • Appeals: If you’re appealing a federal conviction, legal fees for an appeal can range from $10,000 to $50,000 or more, depending on the issues being raised and the length of the appellate process.

In addition to legal fees, you may also need to cover additional costs such as court filing fees, expert witness fees, and investigation expenses.

How to Check the Credibility of a Federal Crime Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable federal crime lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Check their bar status: Verify with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Look for federal crime experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in federal criminal defense and have successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about their experience with the lawyer.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on federal cases.
  • Check for federal court admissions: Make sure the lawyer is admitted to practice in federal court, as federal criminal cases are handled in federal district courts.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a federal crime lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Information about the charges or investigation: Provide any documents related to the charges against you, such as indictments, subpoenas, or notices of investigation. This helps the lawyer assess the severity of the charges and the potential defense strategy.
  • Details of previous interactions with federal agents: If federal agents have contacted you or conducted searches, provide a detailed account of those interactions, including search warrants, interrogations, or evidence seized.
  • Questions about your case: Prepare a list of questions regarding the legal process, potential outcomes, and how the lawyer plans to defend you.
  • Relevant financial information: If your case involves financial crimes or assets that may be at risk, bring relevant financial records, such as bank statements, business records, or tax returns.
  • Previous legal history: If you have a prior criminal record or have been involved in federal investigations before, bring details about those cases.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation more effectively and provide the best possible legal defense for your federal case.
