If you find yourself here, as I did last year, chances are you’re going through some major life changes. Whether it be financial or emotional, divorce can be extremely scary. Sadly, I am no exception. Last June my wife told me she wanted a divorce after 10 years of marriage. After the initial shock, sadness, and reflection, I realized it was for the best, we were not happy, even after a couple years of therapy. I now needed to get to the business end of this divorce and hire an attorney. After interviewing two other attorneys and not feeling confident, a friend of mine referred me to Michelle Jacobson-Kwok and I can’t put a price on that referral! Michelle has been a Godsend. My wife, now legally my ex, had a favorable financial position, in terms of assets, and emotional leverage, having a stronger bond with our nine-year-old daughter and a good chance of winning more custody. We were both amicable, for the sake of our daughter, but the underlying concerns were the financial settlement and shared custody. Michelle was attentive, professional and gave me a sense of calm and confidence through the nine-month process. Since my ex and I were amicable, Michelle recommended mediation rather than going to court. This not only saved us tens of thousands of dollars but also minimized the emotional toll that litigation can bring about. I don’t know if this would have been the best option if my ex and I were not amicable, but it was the best option for us. A big reason why I retained Michelle was the fact she gave me a sense of confidence if we ended up litigating. It was always the last option but an option nonetheless if my ex became unreasonable. Michelle was always apathetic to my future financial and custody concerns and confidently explained my position if we were to litigate. I NEVER felt at a disadvantage with Michelle on my side and confident there would be a favorable outcome, if we did litigate. I cannot THANK Michelle enough for her competency, professionalism, and “human touch” she brought to my case. I would, without hesitation, recommend Michelle to anyone who finds themselves needing a family law specialist.

I hired Michelle to help with a divorce case on the referral of another attorney. What a disappointment. Michelle cared little about me or my case, only about maximizing her billable hours. There was constant nickel and diming and large fees charged for simple tasks. She would spend hours of time discussing court politics and her personal matters unrelated to my case, then bill me for them. She was poorly prepared for court appearances. In spite of hours of my time spent preparing her with background information and prep calls for which she would bill me, Michelle would come in and "wing it" in court, saying random things and completely deviating from the strategy we had agreed on. It was as if she hadn't attended those meetings or read a single item I sent her. When the judge addressed her, she was a deer in the headlights and visibly nervous. Michelle's performance in court was spectacularly horrible. Michelle was unreachable at pivotal moments in the case. I had an extremely urgent issue where I needed her help. In spite of urgent calls to her office, she waited three days to return my calls, putting me at a major disadvantage in the case and driving additional large legal fees that could have and should have been avoided. Overall, Michelle billed generously and took me backwards in the case. There was no accountability, apology, or willingness to correct the errors. I would not hire her or work with her ever again.

She is strong lady and fights for your rights. she doesn't back down. Very smart and professional. I would hire her in a second if I could. My ex was a liar and a cheat. I would have come out better if unforeseen circumstances had not prevented her from finishing my case.

Mr. Dennis doesn't miss a beat. I wish I could have hired him for everything. In a short time he made all the difference for me in a dirty divorce. I am still dealing with a disgruntled ex and as i go thru the work Mr. Dennis did several years ago, I looked for a page online where I could give him the review he deserves! He knows what he is doing. He is well spoken and fights for you. He is supposed to be an attorney! It's hard to find one like him!

Quick to respond to new clients, once the contract is signed you get put on the back burner and he gets to you when he gets to you. I was ghosted for three weeks. I do not advise this lawyer for anyone needing anything that needs quick attention. He's cheap because he is a one man show. Spend a little more and get better representation. I spent over 2k and got zero results. I ended up firing him and hiring a different attorney.

Atty. James Kannard updated and created a new Operation Agreement instead of a Partnership Agreement. He properly advised that with an LLC- you need to go that route. He did so with great skill and professionalism. He was easy to talk to. He charged precisely what he specified and completed the task on time! One of the best lawyers I have had the pleasure of working with. Will definitely use again.

My wife and I worked with Jennifer Meister on a family law matter. The issue involved a parenting plan, and the case was brought on by our son's biological father. Jennifer is a smart and competent woman. However she is also distracted and made it clear that we were not her priority, except when it came to billing us. Jennifer conducted a marketing photoshoot during my wife's zoom mediation, meaning she was distracted and not present for much of the mediation. This mediation was covering our son's parenting agreement with his biological father, and it was the most important thing in the world to us. Clearly it was not that important to Jennifer. During the mediation, Jennifer actually attempted to tank the mediation and told my wife it's not going to work out very early on, which per my wife was in no way the situation. We believe she did that so that we would have to move to a court case, which would continue to rack up bills. My wife was able to save it and reach an agreed upon parenting agreement thankfully, although a second mediation needed to be scheduled because Jennifer had to leave the first before it could be finalized to watch her child (which I would understand, except for the fact that she was absent for much of it doing a photoshoot, which is beyond ridiculous, and the plan could have been wrapped up in one mediation if she had actually set that time aside in her calendar). The second mediation racked the bills up further. Since reaching that parenting agreement (which we had paid approximately $10,000 to Jennifer to reach it), we have now been charged another $6k just to recalculate child support. Every two weeks her firm sends us another retainer for $4,500, when at this point it is very minor work left over. It looks like we are going to be charged $10k for them to work through a financial affidavit and calculate child support per normal guidelines. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? They also charge us a minimum of $35 for every email sent, even if it's two sentences, and for a 10 minute phone call expect to pay close to $100. Jennifer even charged us $350 for legal research about changing a minor’s name. She’s a family law attorney and she’s charging us to research family law?? Should we pay for her law school also? In addition to Jennifer’s ridiculous billing and complete lack of caring, she also appeared to change her mind frequently on best strategic course of action. She strongly discouraged us from getting GAL involved early on and said it will cost us a lot of money. Then 2 days before the mediation she said we should just cancel the mediation and get GAL involved. We were very confused and decided to keep the mediation, but we now realize it was because the mediation conflicted with her marketing photoshoot. Jennifer is money hungry and does not care about you. If you are not extremely wealthy, steer clear. We fired Jennifer before finalizing child support because she is terrible. We would not have been able to finalize the parenting plan at all if we hadn’t put forth countless hours of work on our own. She certainly didn’t get it done for us.

Ms. Meister is an incredibly knowledgeable attorney that is easy to work with. She values opinions and is able to understand what is in best interest of her clients, and her cases as a whole. Strongly recommend her as an attorney.

Jennifer is a true professional in her trade - I'd highly recommend her. My case was unnecessarily lengthy with an exhausting counsel on the other side. Jennifer handled the situation with utmost professionalism & got the job done! Jennifer jumped into my case when another attorney I hired dropped the ball. My previous counsel was less than cooperative with forwarding my files & giving Jennifer minimal to work with. Jennifer was able to patch together what I was able to provide and jumped right on my case. The other counsel made it extremely difficult with the constant filings/constant requests/constant dialogue, but Jennifer handled the situation like a champ. She was in contact with me & tried to keep my bills to a minimum by only contacting me when necessary. Jennifer worked hard to close my case and get things moving in the right direction, I trusted Jennifer's direction throughout the process & knew she had my best interest in mind. Jennifer took the time to listen to me and made time in her schedule to meet with me as needed, She strived to resolve issues and knew my position throughout the process. If you're looking for an attorney that does law with a heart and doesn't belittle clients -- Jennifer is the attorney for you. I was happy with my decision to have her represent me & trusted her guidance 100%.

Ms. Jerijian is a highly intelligent and eloquent attorney. She is a great communicator and we never had to chase her. I contacted Ms. Jerijian seeking legal representation for a young family member. Unlike the other attorneys I interviewed, Ms. Jerijian listened patiently and carefully, and did not give us the bum’s rush or pressure us. Without going into detail, our family member had been dealing with recent difficult events that had bearing on the matters. Ms. Jerijian’s compassion and understanding, coupled with her knowledge of the law and the various NJ court systems, deeply impressed me – as did the rapport she developed with the young family member, which caused him to trust her and accept her guidance. She never treated him like just another case. In my opinion, this helped the prosecutor and the court consider all relevant factors. We were very pleased with the resolution.

I'm not sure who wrote all the reviews, on or around the same day, but their experience does not match my experience with Ms. Stiles at all. I found her to be a highly aggressive, win at all costs, attorney. Her win at all costs game plan almost destroyed my coparenting relationship with my ex. Let's face it, financial issues during a divorce are not easy but they should always be fair and as transparent as possible. I began to see my coparenting relationship deteriorate before my eyes with each strategically crafted correspondence between lawyers. The stress on my children, from the financial battle going on between their parents, was a heartbreaking experience to witness. My decision to finally seek another lawyer was the best decision I ever made. My stress level went down, my divorce got finalized, and I have an amazing coparenting relationship with my ex (I have to wonder if the other reviewers can say the same). I may not have gotten all the money out of my divorce that I possibly could have using Sheila Stiles and her firm, but I've got piece of mind in knowing that my kids will always know that I treated my ex with respect and fairness during a really difficult time.

I have nothing but accolades for Sheila Stiles. Sheila handled my divorce arbitration in 2013. I felt overwhelmed by the experience of divorce and Sheila was professional, courteous and supportive throughout. Her knowledge of the facts provided me the confidence I needed and the support that I wanted to reach amicable terms with my spouse. It was settled to the satisfaction of both parties. I have since reached out to her to answer questions that arise regarding my settlement. Her responses have always been timely and concise even though my case is several years old. I engaged Mr. Rakowski (LSR) in April 2023 to assist with Judgment enforcement matters. In August 2023, he blindsided me by filing a petition to withdraw while demanding that I pay him $7000 to continue representation without having provided me with an invoice of services supporting his demand. This was during a time when he was supposed to be cleaning the mess he created by filing a Petition for Rule to Show (Indirect Civil Contempt) without any claimed amount, being able to mention the paragraphs of the Judgment violated, nature of the violation OR present Exhibits and evidence during the hearing to support the petition. That was the beginning of my nightmarish encounters as events spiraled out of control. He would then file several unnecessary and avoidable motions to modify, compel, and clarify, attempting to rectify his errors and failings while racking up legal fees. And then, he demanded $7000 for the work to clean up this mess without providing me with a supporting invoice. He attempted to coerce me into paying him that amount and when I pushed back, he quickly filed his withdrawal and then immediately filed a petition for attorney fees after the withdrawal was granted. Important to point out that none of the matters I engaged him for were resolved by the time he withdrew, including the petition for reimbursement of child expenses that the Court denied without prejudice because of LSR's failure to state any owed amounts. LSR claimed he was working on drafting a new petition for refiling and billed me over $1,000 for that supposed work in the invoice. However, I never saw a draft of that petition prior to his abrupt withdrawal. And he would then have the audacity to file a petition for fees against me because he thinks the law allows it and he would rather leverage what he believes to be law to oppress his client than do what is right. Zero accountability!! Suffice it to say that I am now representing myself Pro Se and had to refile the petition for child expenses reimbursement myself, which the Court conducted a hearing on and ordered the respondent to pay me the amount claimed. In hindsight, I would have been much better off doing this on my own with very little help from the Law Library. The library has all the applicable straightforward forms. The matters were not complicated. It was post-divorce and didn't require any discovery. I have the Judgment. And there were evidence and documentation to support its violation. But LSR made the process and filing so messed up and complicated so that he could then bill me over $11,000 attempting to clean the mess. Engaging LSR is the worst mistake I have made all through my pre-divorce and post-divorce journey. I would have rated him a zero star if I could but unfortunately, the minimum I could give is 1.

Horrible experience and I would steer clear of this law firm at all costs! They charge you for every email and second spent on your account, even if the email was regarding correcting their own mistakes! I asked them to correct their errors and typos and they charged me to fix them. If they send you an email (even when you did not request it or outreach to them), they charge you for it! It took me multiple emails just to get my final agreement signed, all of which they charged me for! Ridiculous and unfair billing practices that could bankrupt you. Find a lawyer who actually cares about their clients.

Obviously, divorces are not fun, however, Michael helped me through the entire process and thoroughly explained things to me along the way. If you think you can represent yourself...DON'T. Michael was worth every penny !!! He was thorough, knowledgeable, and truly cared about my best interests. I highly recommend Michael and his team. Thank you Michael ! I had the unfortunate experience of Mr. Beshwate representing me nearly 15 years ago as a youngster who got himself in trouble. I was charged a sizeable sum to avoid paying a fine to the court system and ended up doing many hours of community service instead. Well, here we are over a decade later and it looks like this fraud took my money and ran because there is a big ol' fine that's been brewing for years and is now triple what is was. Maybe he just forgot to file the paperwork, but who knows? No call backs from the office staff, no answers, no updates. I'll be on the hook for a huge fine and he can laugh all the way to the bank. I'll be laughing all the way to the state bar.

I can't say enough good things about Amy Connolly! Any circumstance where you need legal counsel can feel overwhelming and emotional. Matthew McDowell did NOT do a professional job at all representing my case, but it is clear that when Mr. McDowell gets your money he is going to do what is in his best interest not the client. I hired Matthew McDowell to represent me for a reckless driving ticket and that is all he did was represent me he will not try his hardest to achieve the best outcome like a professional attorney would. I tried to contact Mr. McDowell multiples times asking if i could be present at all the hearings and be there with him because this was something serious to me that i was being charged with. Mr. McDowell shut me down and said it would be NO help in me showing up and it was in HIS best interest to just not have me at the court hearings. Mind you Im 19 years old now and i have to deal with a reckless driving ticket on my record, theres so many what ifs and there could of been so many other outcomes by me showing my respect and my time to go to all the court hearings and maybe i would of had a different outcome. But no Mr. McDowell did what he wanted even when i was the client. I would look for someone else that values you more as a person.

Had a really bad experience using this lawfirm and I don't agree with any of the positive reviews could all be fake. This attorney used me as a cashcow regarding a civil dispute, never actually accomplished anything we wanted him to achieve, In short we hired this attorney to handle a civil dispute. After hiring him, he requested we do all this sort of work so he could gather it up and fight this civil dispute. After months of using him and bills racking up, he did little to nothing, didn't produce any results and we wasted tens of thousands on him. Overall the worst experience I had using any attorney.

Cathy represented me in a federal case where in most cases unless extraordinary circumstances result in jail time. Cathy used her brilliance and dedication to get me the most favorable outcome as possible. We walked away with a probation only sentence. I have hired and worked with a multitude of attorneys over the years, some great, some terrible. Unfortunately, I found myself in a position of needing, for the first time in my life, a criminal attorney. Cathy got me through the very daunting and scary situation of getting, at first, a temporary protection order, subsequently, a final protection order and finally, an extension of that current order. When I first contacted Cathy (I was referred to her by my family lawyer) I was in a panic, felt unsafe in my own home and was scared for my kids safety as well. Cathy was able to process and weed through all of the information I shared with her and act swiftly and efficiently in a way that helped me feel secure, and heard. Not only do I feel that Cathy is brilliant, I feel that she really cares. I feel very lucky that she was able to take on my case. Ximena was referred to me by a colleague, and I'm so grateful I decided to hire her. She helped me with a challenging custody situation and was extremely knowledgeable and strong throughout the entire process. The situation was complicated and I wasn't entirely sure what the best approach was. She did an excellent job asking the right questions, helping me navigate the process and options with an objective eye, and ultimately helped to achieve the best possible outcome. Her approach is objective and direct (as it should be). Ximena's approach is strong, but she is extremely compassionate and truly cares about her clients. It is definitely not about how many hours she bills or if she can get the case to trial. I trusted her advice and she always had my back and my child's best interest in mind. I felt heard and validated with my concerns, as she has a wealth of experience dealing with similar challenging personalities and situations. I always felt supported and relief after consulting with her. Ximena is also a seasoned Snohomish County attorney, and is held in high regard with the court, judges, mediators, and other attorneys. There is no way this guy has this good of a track record and such great reviews. Basically worst lawyer I have ever dealt with. Told me he would do the best he can to get rid of my bogus charges..but literally just lied ..took my money and did no work whatsoever. Actually seemed like he was more working in favor of the DA and criminal defense. This man is more of a scam artist than a lawyer....I would seriously even question if he is an actual lawyer and even went to law school. Seemed more like he took a one hour online school and printed out his diploma. This man did absolutely nothing he said he was going to do...and I would almost swear he didn't even bother even reading the paperwork and police report

Unfortunately, Joseph Keegan did not live up to the reputation I have read about in my case. His lack of professionalism included being late for court appearances and not returning phone calls, emails or texts. Atty Keegan is very personable, but really was lacking in follow-through.

I hired Melanie in 2010 to defend a simple speeding ticket. I had no other offenses, and no points on my license. Melanie's efforts yielded no reduction in points, nor any reduction in fees. EXACTLY the same result I would have achieved if I had kept the $1,000 I wasted on Melanie's fee & pleaded guilty. I have no idea what she did to inspire the judge to be so unyielding, and Melanie refused to give me any account of the trial. There are no guarantees in court, but she behaved in what I consider to be a highly unprofessional manner afterwards, refusing to talk to me and denying that she was a recent grad with little experience. I regret hiring her, and hopefully she has learned her craft better by now, but I'd advise against hiring her for anything important.

Retained Mary in mid-2021 for a divorce (without children), easily the worst decision I made. Not only was she completely uncommunicative with me (we had scheduled a specific date to file, once that date came, I heard absolutely nothing from her), came to find out she completely ghosted my ex’s attorney and the attempts he made to reach out. I ended up having to retain other representation which created unnecessary delay. When I emailed Mary to tell her I would no longer be needing her services, she sent a bill with trumped up charges for emails and communications that never actually happened. She’s lucky I didn’t report any of professional misconduct to the board (despite my new attorney advising me to do so).

I just finished working with Julie for almost two years now, through a (to put it mildly), very messy divorce. There are many highs and lows throughout the process, but I can honestly say that Julie and her team are the only reason I made it out intact. As you can imagine, there are occasions all rationale and logic can leave you. That is when I found the advice and support given by Julie and Matt to be a godsend. I can't say enough good things about this law firm. I was applying for my disability and they handled every step of the case with me and kept me updated on everything. They even done my initial application to get started. Tammy and Tyler was amazing to deal with. Tammy was very comforting and knowledgeable when I was losing hope on my case and faced my first denial and Tyler was so helpful they reassured that this was very common and not to lose faith. He made sure I was well prepared for court and helped me every step of the way and made sure I understood everything. They even addressed concerns and questions on their personal time. Tyler even called after just getting back from his vacation and talked with me for 2 hours to make sure I was comfortable before going into court the next day..
