I had reached out to this lawyer due to being a friend of the family she came on to my family court case and honestly couldnt afford her 2500 retainer explained this to her and she was willing to step in and be appointed by the state for me i was beyond appreciative of her doing so but from that moment on i was no longer a client i was a number to her from over 15 missed court dates talked one day about setting a motion the next day and never heard back from her for 6 plus months, 3 plus, 2 plus after that no responses to emails calls or texts i had to be rude in emails and calls to even get her on the phone (which any one who knows me would tell you for me to have to get that way means i had to try all other ways before getting me to that point as i was raised to be respectful always ) maybe the 3 or 4 times i was able to over the past year and a half it was super frustrating to try and represent myself time and time again when my family and my daughters life was at such high risks with sending my daughter 7 states away and to fight for her return when said placement was an awful fit and my child was being brutally hurt by children and staff, i was thankful for my case worker for moving as fast and doing what she could as quickly as possible but was told that if my lawyer was involved she could have sped up the process and she didnt and the awful thing about it, when im asked by other collegues of hers who represents me i state who she is and what i have been throught and EVERY single one of them say your not the first one to tell me this i hear it alot people arnt happy with her becauae she never showes up including other parents and social workers cant stand working with her as they can never seem to get intouch with her even when they cc her on documents and emails. I went to court yesterday knowing i was going to ask the judge to assign me another lawyer as she has failed me on neumerous occasions and i felt i wasnt being represtented at all let alone fairly and her actions were beyond unprofessional, before i could get most of my sentence out the judge looked at me and said your absolutly right you deserve better and i was thinking myself to reasign you today as it is not fair to you and your family ... A JUDGE!!!! .I was told this judge doesnt reasign cases often or at all but once she saw me always showing up with out representation time and time and time again she felt for me. If you are one to not worry about the case and dont like updates or calls or emails or be present at your court hearings and dates shes your girl!!!! but if you love your family and want whats right for them and common curtisy and a professional to be by your side SHE IS NOT IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM YOUR GIRL!!!!!!

I had an absolutely HORRIBLE experience with Meredith. If I could give her zero stars I would. She never kept me updated about the happenings of my case. She didn’t respond to calls, texts or emails in a timely fashion. She blamed me for delays in the case stating I didn’t return documents, when in fact she had never asked for said documents. She didn’t show up to court- she had someone show up in her place without notifying me prior. I even caught her in several lies regarding whom she had spoken to regarding my case. She refuses to return the $1300 of the “refundable” deposit that was unused at the time I fired her. Meredith will take your money and won’t do a single thing for you. She was my lawyer for almost a year and nothing got done. Save yourself the trouble, hire someone else.

She is extremely professional in every aspect and I would highly recommend her for anyone looking for representation.

Drew did a phenomenal job with my case and achieved the best possible outcome, which I know wouldn't have been possible had I not been represented. Drew was very communicative throughout the process and provided extremely detailed notes in every invoice, so I was well aware of how my case was proceeding. The rates were fair and reasonable; I received service above and beyond what I expected.

Please listen and do not use this firm. They will rack up large bills without any quality work to support their charges and fees. In a matter of a few months I owed them close to $45,000 and had nothing to show for it. When I asked for consultation with other attorneys or advice my pleas were not followed through with. I ended up settling my own case and my ex-husband took me back to court within a few months. The entire case was a waste and very hard lesson to learn. I was completely taken advantage of.

Angela is the worst “lawyer”I’ve ever encountered. My firm has gone against 2 lawyers prior to Angela being the 3rd/ most current. She uses bullying/ intimidation tactics against opposing counsel because she isn’t capable of arguing Florida law and providing evidence. She only files to see what sticks. With her background she is well aware of state law yet disregards Florida law completely to the point I asked for her to be sanctioned in court and sent over to the bar. She is a liar. A manipulator and a bully. Nothing about her fights for the best interests of any child. She only cares about a paycheck and will file anything to get paid. There are way better firms and lawyers than her. She will not fight for your family or kids. Make sure you document everything from her and send her over to the attorney general and Florida bar.

I have nothing but good things to say about Angela. She worked diligently to find out the truth in my very complicated case. She not only uncovered the truth, but she stood up for what was right and made great suggestions to make our complicated situation better. She held so much compassion for my child and she did her absolute best to have my child’s voice heard. Angela is knowledgeable, responsive, and trustworthy. I would recommend her to anyone. We had a fantastic experience.

Divorce is a necessary and potentially unpleasant ordeal. In the event this is necessary, I am both relieved and proud to say that the personal, kind, and extremely prepared talents of Angela Tobaygo Esquire was what took this process quickly and comfortably to the finish line. This firm really made me feel both vindicated and happy, ending what was once a beautiful marriage to the successful conclusion that honored the truth and justice it deserved. Top praise for humanity, integrity, and experience. Five Stars!

Was consulting with them about a matter I was wronged in. And was continually cut off and brushed off. They don't work they don't listen! As I'm now seeing this is the same complaint in many other reviews. I was just yelled at by an attorney because I was asking questions. Find another law firm! Trust me I've dealt with many attorneys this is not the one you want to do business with. Have tried to work with multiple lawyers in this firm. They all give the same nonchalant vibe!

I was given info on LegalShield through a representative who came to my job. I signed up and had a matter that I needed legal assistance with. I called and spoke with an attorney who was extremely unprofessional, he kept cutting across me, jumped to conclusions and offered me no options to help resolve the matter, stated that the representative who spoke to the employees lied and gave misinformation, was NOT empathetic to my situation, very cold and lacked decorum. I called back to report it to a customer service representative and she never apologized for my bad experience or encounter, she too was non empathetic. This law firm has individuals who lack social and emotional awareness for people who call and are just trying to get some direction and insight. And even if you can't help, it's a way to do and say things. From the other reviews I'm seeing, I'm not shocked at the experience I had today. LegalShield certainly needs other attorney options for NC!

I talked to Squire Bozorth twice on the phone and he was extremely rude, abrupt and completely inaccurate on the details of the case. I wanted to meet in person to go over the case which included photos that I printed, plus a video. He was doing everything he could to keep me on the phone and not meet in person. He never let me finish talking, but finally agreed to meet. I found out that I could tell him to file a motion to withdraw my case. He was obligated to do so and the judge approved it.

Squire represented me on an extremely nuanced case and completely failed to come up with any sort of strategic defense. He doesn’t listen on phone calls and his written responses are akin to that of an unintelligible community college student. He’s a lazy lawyer, constantly late and unprepared, was often reprimanded by the presiding judge for his tardiness and lack of preparedness in court. Complete waste of time and money, would have been better off seeing to things myself and wish I would have. He’s not held in high regard by his own office and can’t tell you the last time he actually won a case that went to trial. Advice? Just retire already.

Arthur Sneider represented me in a post-divorce case involving both financial matters as well as child custody issues. He is thoughtful and strategic as a professional while his extensive experience with the law and his interpersonal skills make him the perfect negotiator--able to be both reasonable and flexible yet dynamic and convincing when necessary in court. His understanding of the nuances of the law, as well as his dedication to truly thinking through how to best prepare for alternatives helped me to think about what was most important. Attorney Sneider came on to assist "late in the game" and was able to settle matters that several very expensive "downtown" lawyers had botched. Attorney Sneider, along with the other attorneys in his practice, make sure that all documents are organized and that your case is well-prepared. Arthur understands children and families and will assist you to determine what makes the most sense. This was the first experience with an attorney I did not dread! I would highly recommend Arthur Sneider if you are seeking a divorce attorney or dealing with matters of child custody.

The Alaska Public Defender Agency does a great job considering its budgetary constraints. They provide more bang for the buck than private counsel, in my experience. The problems Jeremy Ward talks about are not problems with the Alaska Public Defender Agency. They are problems with our society and government as a whole, caused largely by the breakdown of morals and the extended family. Don't criticize the agency with their finger in the dike trying to hold off the overwhelming flood of dysfunctional people. Criticize what caused that flood. And DO something about it. Volunteer!

I have appreciated the offices of Bobby P Luna for four years and counting. Jennifer Holdener, Mackenzie, and reception have all been extremely patient with my needs and multiple cases that were far from normal in the eyes of us mere mortals. The bad reviews for Bobby and his office reflect a lack of understanding that the relationship between you, your lawyer and your case is a symbiotic dance where you provide the information and work together to create a case. There were times I was panicked and called and received no word back—and became upset—but these lawyers are constantly working for someone each day, so I would remember to be patient—that we have our day in court, not our day on the messaging system. I will continue to support Bobby P Luna and Jennifer with my recommendations and any new issues that may arise. I’ve been meaning to write this for a long time, and it took these one star reviews to get me to use my fingers and speak.

I definitely agree with everyone that rated him a one star. And he is trying to run for Superior Court Judge?! Thank God Sacramento saw through his bull. I went to this man several years back to get help with my divorce case. He told me he would definitely review my case and Get back with me, but I had a pretty clear cut case. He stated that he had to go to some type of attorney’s forum in Orange County and would review it when he returned. He told me to give him two weeks. Well, 3 1/2 weeks later, I kept calling with no response. Approximately 1.5 months later, I received a phone call from his office, not even him , stating that he would not be able to take my case due to it being too complex! Too complex?! Well, if he’s trying to run for a superior court judge that is as complex as it gets. Stay away from this person. I wouldn’t vote for him to run a boxcar race. Personally, I think he’s only an attorney based on the title and the prestige that it gives not based on anything that he earned or worked hard for and most certainly not his knowledge/expertise in the field. Look somewhere else for a competent attorney. I bet his premiums for his malpractice insurance are more than his net worth. Update: See his reply below?! He said I never was a client. Exactly! Because after holding all of my documents several weeks and then making a cowardice move of having your staff call me and tell me that my case was too complex to handle- you’re right. I never was a client. Now, I’m so glad that you did me that favor. It was years ago and you may have gotten better since you’re “practicing.” Oh and just because you teach somewhere means nothing. I can own a beauty salon and not know how to do hair or have a license to do so. And you have further buttressed my statements in my review just by saying that you don’t “normally” reply to reviews- shows a lack of maturity and an underlying soreness about your loss. Nahhhh, Sacramento made an excellent decision.

Greg Esau represented me in a custody case almost 10 years ago. Greg would constantly provide me with conflicting advise about what would be a reasonable outcome of my case. Multiple times when preparing for mediation sessions, he would tell me that a reasonable outcome and our goal for the mediation was X, only to tell me that I would be lucky to get Y shortly after the mediation session began. He would then tell me that I was unreasonable to expect X in a way that came across as condescending and gave the impression that the opposing party and their counsel was more reasonable than me or what we had agreed was our desired outcome. This left me feeling off-balance and confused throughout the mediation sessions. Additionally, now being more knowledgeable about family law in Washington state and working with other (better) representation, I recognize that Greg advised me to accept a deal that fell far short of what would have been a reasonable outcome given the circumstances of my case. He was also severely lacking in motivation. While the opposing representation kept detailed notes and spent considerable time and effort to develop and adjust offers, Greg literally sat back in his chair and let the opposing counsel completely take the lead in all of our mediation sessions. I only found out years later that Greg had been disciplined multiple times in WA and CA, and ultimately was disbarred in CA. Selecting excellent representation for your family law case is one of the most important decisions of your life. Please, please, please do what is best for yourself, your children, and your family and steer clear of Greg.

A few years ago, John took my case for two felonies I was being charged with. He was not only an amazing lawyer, but an amazing friend. He explained to me every step of the case and guided me in what I needed to do in order to win my case. He recommended places to help with my alcohol abuse. He spoke to me like he would to a friend, maybe even family. I knew I was going to be alright with his explanation of everything. This case which included charges like assault and reckless driving was ultimately dismissed. The dismissal of these charges allowed for me to go back to school and more recently obtain my graduate degree!!!! Furthermore, more recently I hired him to help with a friend was wrongly accused. He did a phenomenal job with this case as well. Helping to get my friend a PTA from a 155,000 dollar bond!!! I strongly recommend attorney Bowdren. Not only is he good at what he does, he is befriendable, understanding, kind and caring! I feel like he is part of my family. I want to start by saying Mr. Milazo is a great conversationalist. He was easy to speak with and encouraging when I felt rather distraught over my situation. However, Mr. Milazo was just that, "all talk." He charged for services never rendered and continued to drive my bill up until I finally dismiss him. I eventually hired another attorney that did a fantastic job. Sadly, Mr. Milazo is, like most, a small fish in a large pond trying to make a name for himself. I was in a crisis and trying to get a restraining order against my boyfriend and he agreed to meet with me at the spur of the moment the same day, which was much appreciated. But first thing i noticed walking in was that he had his assistant and then one other girl just lingering around the door listening to everything i had to say about my very private and high profile case. I didnt appreciate extra ears being in the room doing nothing but wanting to hear all the details of my horrible situation for her own curiosity. I was very distraught and didnt have the mind to tell this chick to get lost. Secondly, as i started to talk about obtaining palimony, this lawyer starts letting out sarcastic "ha's" and then saying, "i hate to break it to you but there is no law that will give you palimony." I already know this, but palimony IS recognized in the courts of california even though it is not a law there either. I was trying to ask him if it was recognized in court system here in TN, but he kept repetitively saying the same thing as though I was "missinformed." He obviously didn't understand what I was asking and kept on with his know-it-all, "youve been missinformed" and "somebodys been pullin your leg" attitude when he is completely ignorant to the way CA courts work. I was only asking if the system is the same in TN; I wasn't trying to have a debate about "the law." Then, he starts urging me to go to a battered womens shelter where they will "help me." I was upset, i wasnt beat up so wtf? The only help i wanted was a preventative restraining order and turned out That since I didnt have a black eye, my story of past abuse wasnt really enough to warrent a restraining order. I was insulted when he kept pushing the womens shelter pamphlet to me saying i should probably go there. For what? Thats not what i came to his office for. I have money, why would i go to a womems shelter and sleep on a cott when I can get a hotel room? Anyways thats my opinion. The extra ears in the room was very unprofessional, not to mention that they all three stepped out of the doorway to proceed to loudly wisper as though i cant here what they are saying. Idiots. This is a private matter Milazo, extra ears should not be in the room. If you have something to say u say it in front of me. You dont take the details of my case and proceed to gossip in the doorway. I really feel like I should not have gone there and should have made them sign a privacy contract before telling them my case. All felt very elementary and gossipy... Which my case was very juicy i admit, but i wish i didnt tell these people anything.

I hired Attorney Madera back in 2006 to battle my Child Support/Child Custody case. He was extremely kind and helpful during a very stressful time. Attorney Madera and his staff (Karina) were great at helping guide me through foreign territory when it would have been very easy to feel lost throughout the process. My case was difficult and sometimes very emotional. Although the outcome was not 100% in my favor, Attorney Madera ensured it was a fair one in court which is more than I could have asked for. I appreciate him and his staff for the service he provided and would highly recommend his firm for your legal needs. He's an excellent attorney who actually cares.

He didn't fight for me extremely laid back not on the ball if if didn't have the paperwork he definitely wouldn't have like you have to be your own lawyer he's just there. His advise outside court is good just not aggressive enough for me. His communication sucks too. I call and text him no answer and he doesn't call me back except if we are close to a trial date. My cases last trial date was in December of 2022 and I didn't get results until July 2023 of what the outcome was because of his laxadaisyness. I only found out the results by looking at the docket online he didn't inform me. I still haven't seen the actual results that the court sent to him and it is October 2023

Absolute worst lawyer EVER!!! NOT ONLY DID SHE DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING SHE GUIDED US INTO A HUGE DEBT. Told us to stay at the house until we got evicted. Which cost us 2 more months of rent. Sent me to court an made me look like an idiot in front of the judge. Then completely BAILED ON US an closed out or case. This lawyer should have her license stripped an we will be calling more lawyers. I will be pushing to sue you also for improperly representing us. You are the biggest joke of a lawyer I have ever seen. We followed your advice step by step an your now telling us you can't help us. You are a joke that nobody laughs at.

They provide no help when you qualify for services. They also make up excuses to not provide services. They have terrible customer service. You're on your own out here. These guys are a joke. Think of these guys as the State Farm Insurance commercial with that old fisherman that has a dollar on his fishing hook giving you the illusion of getting that dollar. That's these guys right here.

I Regret the day I was told about this SO called Professional Attorney everyone’s reviews were spot on she had NO RESPECT to US the Client But INVOICES she was on top of! I LOST MY DAUGHTER in a Custody Battle with a Narcissist ABUSIVE Man ! After receiving $45,000 Plus in Atty Fees and hung the phone on me (Her Paying Client) Was rude and disrespectful and just withdrew because I LOST EVERYTHING over $250,000 My Retirement and Daughter ! Had she had been a Better Attorney and Defended me and was as Rude, Mean and Aggressive to Me HER Client with the Opposing Attorney Maybe she would have had a chance of being Successful. Do NOT be fooled of her Appearance ! And don’t bother she doesn’t CARE! You NEED AN Attorney that will FIGHT for you!

This firm is only interested in your up front retainer. They also have a client relations "person" and I use that term lightly who gives psychiatric counseling and she has no credentials. Her name is Dianne Sawkins and she's criminal who should be in prison. File a complaint to the CO Regulatory Board about this law office. They should be closed down and disbarred. https://www.coloradosupremecourt.com/Complaints/File_ComplaintAgainstAtty.asp

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
