An example of his brilliance was his insistence on our filing of our patents and trademarks. Howard, as a former County Counsel for the Public Administrator/Public Guardian (PA/PG), handled many very difficult estate matters. PA/PG estates are not straight forward and generally messy but Howard solved all the problems and found a path toward completion so that distributions could be made to the heirs. He is so expert at probate matters that even the Superior Court asked him for advice on occasion when they could not figure out the answer. I have worked with many probate attorneys over the years, so I know a good one when I see him. When the time came to choose a probate attorney for my Mother's estate, I naturally chose the best around and that is Howard. He has solved each problem as it arose, is trustworthly, responsive to my questions and concerns, very knowledgeable and keeps me informed each step along the way. Howard is the best probate attorney in Orange County and I wholeheartedly recommend him. You could not find a better one!

After our attorney retired, I contacted a family friend's attorney. Their offices did not handle conservatorship/trust cases, but told me I was in luck because a very fine attorney, Howard Serbin, had recently retired from the Orange County Counsel. They said I would be lucky to get him. He has been our attorney for nearly four years. Our case is particularly difficult and messy, but Howard has been so supportive, easy to work with, very professional, extremely honest and fair. He is easy to communicate with and timely on all paperwork filed and phone call and email responses. Whenever we are at the court house with Howard he is fequently approached by the staff who are genuinely happy to see him. It is obvious Howard is a respected and admired attorney. Our Asset Protection and Medicaid application started with an attorney in Leesburg, VA. The trusts they wrote and the strategies they used to protect the assets made our case unnecessarily complex almost to the point of failure. It later surfaced that they were not qualified to file a Medicaid application in the state of Florida. This attorney said we would have to find a qualified Florida attorney at our own expense. We learned what a bad attorney is.
We chose Jason Penrod of Family Elder Law for the Medicaid application. Family Elder Law reviewed the trusts from our Leesburg attorney and explained clearly to us how the battery of trusts the Virginia attorney had created were inadequate and could jeopardize the process and require going through probate; something even a basic trust can avoid. Family Elder Law took control after seeing the substandard work from the Leesburg attorney and drafted a Qualified Income Trust (QIT) to replace a poorly written Living Trust and corrected other Trusts. Their revised Trusts contained the proper language required for the States of Florida, Maryland, and Virginia where the assets were located. We now know what a good attorney is.
We also worked with the staff of Family Elder Law and they earned our trust and confidence with their in-depth knowledge, clearly stating the direction we would proceed, and why this was a better strategy than what the Virginia attorney had started. Everyone, including Jason, were willing to clearly answer our numerous questions. When we emailed or sent a text, they responded within minutes not days. They knew how the different Trusts were essential to achieving a successful outcome. They clearly guided us in the roles and responsibilities for managing these Trusts and how to avoid possible costly errors.
Several years have passed since we placed our faith in Jason and my mother-in-law sadly has since passed. I can say that fulfilling her final wishes were positive.

I met Jason a few years ago when he helped my father with my elderly aunt's transition from Texas to a Florida ALF. Now several years later Jason and his associates have helped me navigate the uncharted waters with my mother and father and all of their needs. You never know how quickly life can change. My mother suffered an injury that rendered her unable to care for herself and my father. We were totally unprepared for everything that had to be taken care of in a short amount of time. When my father and I came to see Samantha, we were struggling with what seemed like an insurmountable challenge: applying for and obtaining MassHealth benefits for my 86-year old mother, who has late-stage Alzheimer’s and who was in desperate need of round-the-clock care. The MassHealth approval process has innumerable requirements. It is tricky, and it is one of those applications where it would be easy to make a mistake and end up creating delays if I had attempted to navigate it myself. Samantha, however, stepped in with her considerable knowledge, her sharp attention to detail, and her diligence, and made this overwhelming task completely manageable. She would check in with me, or I with her, and her guidance and *patience* during this time was invaluable. She was always available to answer questions, not only mine, but anyone who was providing us with essential documentation for the application, and who might need an explanation of what was required. She called in for three-way conferences, and wrote emails on our behalf requesting information. My sister and I wanted to take a moment and thank your firm for the outstanding service and support we have received regarding estate planning for our parents. Helen Mesoloras, Melissa LaPointe and Erin Vogt have provided guidance and their expertise while also displaying genuine care, concern and compassion.
When my father suffered a massive stroke in October '15, we were left overwhelmed and lost as to what to do next regarding his care. After being referred to your firm by in NY (where I live) I spoke to Erin who listened and right away assured us your firm could help not only in estate planning but with the medicaid process as well.
From our first meeting with Helen and Melissa, we felt confident and secure we were not alone, and that we would have someone helping us advocate for my dad in the nursing home he was at. As for the medicaid process, being that I do not live in town, the idea of my mom and sister having to do the medicaid application alone was not an option. Had it not been for your team organizing everything and informing us when items were still needed I honestly think we would still be knee deep in paperwork today.
Another turning point happened in December when I was talking to Erin regarding my dad's overall health. He was extremely depressed and not eating at the time. She suggested that maybe palliative care could help us. While initially on palliative care, since February he had been on hospice care. Ms Wheeler helped I and my spouse file chapter 7 bankruptcy. I "thank God" i found this wonderful lawyer. She is so so "down to earth". Her office/work environment is remarkable. You would think you needed a million bucks to become her client but i assure you that is not the case. Her rates are very reasonable. Tracey is very "client friendly" and very knowledgeable. She did not try to "hustle" me and she spoke very honestly about everything. After working with her I felt like I could talk to her about anything. I had bad problems with my restaurant manager because he was too soft in its ways to screw employees and it happened thefts, cleaning done wrong, hours counted or improperly counted too, documents not filed in due time, fines, etc. . a real mess. I appealed to Mr. Francis M. Boyer who advised me, put the director on the right path, ask me to close the restaurant for two days to clean all up, what i did. He is a great guy and a very good lawyer. I recommend him eyes closed. Now, my director took the control of the restaurant with more confidence, employees are ok, all is in its due place, invoices are paid in time, documents filled in due time too because Mr Boyer have a look on it. My restaurant runs right and i enjoy it.
