I hired attorney Clark for litigation regarding an estate plan for my parents which included VA benefits for my father and some medical care planning for my mother. We had to go to court on some complicated issues that only a handful of local attorneys even knew how to handle. She was successful both times and won our cases. Attorney Clark is quick, easy to talk to and very thoughtful. I would refer anyone to her.

Tamar was my attorney that was given to me by the state of wa. For my cps case. She exceeded my expectations. She returned emails and phone calls and helped me out more than anyone else during the whole case even after she wasnt hired by the state she still would point me right direction and not only her but the entire law firm doesnt agree for the injustices that cps is involved with. They have your back and will do everything they can as a team to help you win your case.

Tamar helped me regain my children in the initial shelter care hearing. She has gone up and beyond helping me deal with other past issues. She's amazingly smart and talented. I was incredibly fortunate to have her assigned to my case. She was incredibly knowledgeable and gave me a list that worked like magic of things I needed to do to get my children back after only a few days when they were wrongly taken on fabricated lies. A friend of mine said that angels were looking out my family when she was assigned to my case and I wholeheartedly agree.

I can't say enough about the great experience I had with attorney Weinberger. Gina was empathetic and responded with lightning efficiency to help me with my case. Lastly, the invoice for her services came in under the quoted estimate. Outstanding.

I interviewed a couple of Denver area attorneys before hiring Rose Mary Zapor to do my will. I learned about her after asking friends for a referral. Rose has had many years of experience with elder law and services for the elderly, including estate planning, and with how laws work in Colorado. She did my will for a reasonable flat fee, which made me feel at ease, not on the clock, while i asked numerous questions and she answered them patiently. Rose was meticulous and detail-oriented going through various options and scenarios, and gave me some good suggestions and warnings about what not to do. Her staff is efficient, too.

Shelley Rizzotti represented me and my nonprofit organization on a case that involves contractual, nonprofit, and animal law. She took on our case pro bono and stuck with us from beginning to end. She was very knowledgeable on the statutes pertaining to our case. She was meticulous and thorough in her research. Her letters were all skillfully written, and in the end we prevailed! Shelley made the entire process easy for us. She assured us that she would be properly handled our case and she told us not to worry. She explained everything to us along the way. She gathered all pertinent documents and evidence; she allowed us to focus on our day-to-day operations rather than dwell on our case. This certainly lifted a huge burden off our shoulders. She gave us regular updates. She was readily available to answer any questions over the phone or by e-mail... even though she had taken on this case pro bono amid her busy schedule! Shelley is an attorney with compassion, grit, and integrity. She is not one to take on a case if she does not fully believe there will be a positive outcome for her client(s). She will fight for her clients, and she will never back down. When she takes on a case, she comes up with a list of strategies to use to win the case. She has excellent people skills and was professional and firm in her dealings with the other party's attorney. Overall, we are incredibly grateful to Shelley for her expertise and phenomenal help to our nonprofit organization. We highly recommend Shelley! Teresa breaks setting up a trust into discrete chunks of work which makes the process less daunting. and easier to complete without stretching out the amount of it takes to finalize your trust. More importantly, Teresa listened to me, learned how I live my life and, my distribution goals. In turn she made custom recommendations to create a trust which is personal to my life and memory. Teresa guides you through some difficult decisions. I always felt that she was working for my benefit rather than pushing to finish up. Another huge part of Teresa's service is to ensure that you understand how trusts work especially the changes that you can make to tweak it in the future. The real definition of a living trust. Teresa/Caplan Wilkinson provides simple to use tools to document your assets, your plans and final chapter care. No one ever marries with the intention of getting a divorce, but when faced with that, it's crucial to have a good attorney fighting for you. Gene was that attorney for me, but more than merely doing his job and working things out for the protection of my child, he was beyond kind/understanding/empathetic/patient with me! This was an emotional time, and I'm sure he sees lots of people not-at-their-best in his field, but he never treated me as though I was an overwrought, highly emotional female! Gene was very responsive to not just my phone calls and emails (always took my call, returned emails w/in the hour), but I'd also drop in totally unannounced more than I should have, and he'd ALWAYS make time for me. He never gave the impression I was an annoyance to him, or that he had more important things he'd rather or ought to be doing...even as I was absolutely one of "those" clients! He gave good legal advice gleaned from years of not only book-experience, but actual life-experience, from time spent in the courtrooms, working w/ various judges and attorneys. He had background/experience on most of those we'd encounter in the system (like the judge or the FOC staff), and for those he didn't personally know, he knew people who knew them. Based upon his experience he also had ideas and implemented things I'd never have thought of...never knew to think of!...and that's his job! What I was paying him for...so that I'd have the best outcome for myself and my child in a very tenuous situation. When it came to my concerns and worries, he was pragmatic and realistic, sometimes too much so for my emotional-state (looking back however, with a clear-head, I now see his position and admit he was right)...and yet he was very open to my own ideas and thoughts, even pursuing them, some of which helped lead to the successful outcome of our case. His prices were more than fair for the time he gave me and the genuine concern he showed; even though he was likely dealing with dozens of other cases, he always made me feel like I was the only one. With this being my life and the life of my child's, to be made to feel important and seen was such an encouragement and very calming.

My husband and I hired Mr. Wells to represent our interests in two matters involving real property my husband inherited in Solano County - one was a complicated probate issue and one was what turned out to be a complicated eviction. From our first conversation, Mr. Wells had a straightforward action plan in mind and an impressive command of the law and facts of our case. Other lawyers we spoke to either didn't understand what we were asking them to do, or were seeking large retainers for unnecessary action plans. Mr. Wells accomplished all of our goals, acted quickly, charged a reasonable rate, and kept us informed at all steps. As a lawyer myself, I can confidently say that Mr. Wells is top notch. I would not hesitate to hire him again for any real estate or probate matters. Highly recommended!

He and his staff were always available to answer question either by e-mail or phone. Robert is primarily a landlord attorney, who specializes in tenant evictions. He does other real estate transactions, but his main focus was to help me evict my non-paying tenant. Eviction took about 6 weeks. He is efficient, cordial, prompt and punctual. He corrected errors in my 3 Day Notice To Pay Or Quit and resent the notice to prevent lost time if the case was thrown out for improper notice. He usually responded back within 1-2 business days with detailed replies to my legal questions. He informed me of notice delivery, summons and court dates. His office was conveniently located across from the county courthouse, but I believe he moved to another nearby location. I wished we had more rehearsal time prior to our court appearance. Though our case was pretty straightforward, I wanted to ensure my responses were eloquent when he examined me. He was a little nervous before the intimidating judge, but it's only human nature.

My mother passed away on January 6, 2005, and I was appointed the Personal Representative of her Estate on January 31, 2005. On April 4, 2005, the State of Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing filed a claim against my Mother’s Estate in the amount of $22,000.00 for Medicaid services rendered while she was alive. She also had a couple of debt collectors attempting to get paid twice by the estate. My attorney at the time couldn’t handle a case this size so he backed out. On September 8, 2005, I engaged Shari Caton as my attorney for my Mother’s Estate who helped me prove to the State of Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing that I had received a disability on my back during active military service and that I was receiving disability compensation from the Veterans Administration. This was grounds for the State of Colorado to drop their claim against the estate and so they did. Thanks to Shari Caton and her high degree of legal professionalism, for blocking the State’s Claim against my Mother’s Estate and stopping a couple of money hungry thieves from getting paid twice. Shari Caton is an excellent attorney with a vast knowledge of the legal system, a high degree of legal professionalism and works diligently in helping her clients win their cases. Shari is a great person as well as a great attorney who is second to none. A real WINNER!!! I very highly recommend her to anyone needing legal help.

Talking with him on the phone for 30 minutes gave me immense confidence that he knew what he was doing and he could win my child custody battle for me. Once I hired him and saw him in action, I was blown away. Very smart, very talented, very honest with me. I highly recommend him and I will continue to use him for all my family law needs.

Greg Girvan is a master negotiator and will fight for you. He saved my life by negotiating my divorce settlement to my benenfit even though I was the major bread winner in my marriage. I was also the victim of Breach of Fiduciary responsibility and he is an expert in dealing with this issue. At our court appearance, he wiped the floor with opposing counsel because he was prepared and ready to out strategize her. I am beyond grateful to him and the FMBK professional team. You will not be sorry by hiring Greg and the firm to represent you during this difficult time.

From the get-go, Steve Mindel and his team proved their worth in handling my case effectively, efficiently, and with smarts. Greg Girvan, my appointed attorney, demonstrated the perfect balance of professionalism and camaraderie in our relationship, from day one, creating a trust. I truly felt "protected" in the hands of FMBK Law. His insight into my case and his talent for writing gave my case the "champion" that it needed to reveal the truth of my matter in the eyes of the law. Furthermore, Greg never lost sight of the bigger issue at hand, in what has been described as a complicated case, which I believe is what gave me leverage at the end of the day. Hire Greg. You'll be glad.

I neglected to take the time to let you know how overly satisfied I was with the work of Ned Cannon. What an asset to your firm. He expedited my small case and was able to get SunTrust to come to the table and accept an offer much less than what was owed. The relief I feel can only be attributed to his hard work on my account. Many thanks for your firm taking this on and “Winning”. Tell Ned, I still owe him dinner at Bones.

I had occasion to need advice from Mr. Cannon on a rather complex property title matter. While I was very angry about this situation and wanted to pursue it diligently, Mr. Cannon suggested I turn take some time to let my anger subside, see the problem clearly, and make an unemotional decision. I followed Mr. Cannon’s advice and he was right on the money. Having said this, he likely saved me quite a few dollars as well. - A

Chad Plumley and his Legal Assistant, Lyndi were a tremendous help to me in the aftermath of a fairly serious automobile accident I was in caused by the other driver running a red light at 40+ mph. Chad was thorough and concerned and made sure that I was completely back on my feet before filing suit. His patience, diligence and legal knowledge resulted in a settlement that paid all my medical bills and provided me compensation for lost wages, pain and suffering. Lyndi was very organized and kept up with all the medical bills. She kept in frequent contact with me and provide updates and did much of the leg work for the case. She was always friendly, cheerful, patient and available. They made a great team and i was very pleased with their work. i will use Mr. Plumley in the future for any legal issues or questions I might have.

I am extremely pleased with my attorney, Chad Plumley. He is clearly very smart and experienced in handling family law. He was very realistic and didn't waste my time and money. We were able to get more than what I expected to help me and my children and he didn't charge me an arm and a leg.

I had never hired a lawyer before, so I asked some friends about their lawyers. Two of them said that I should see Roberta, who lives in my town. I was nervous when I called, but her secretary, Jeanne, was very friendly. Jeanne asked me some questions, to make sure that Roberta could handle my case, and set up an appointment. She told me the first consultation was free. When I walked in, there was the cutest dog I have ever seen (he is Roberta's dog). His name is Sam. Jeanne asked me if I was ok with dogs. I was (I have three dogs), so I played with him until Roberta met with me. Roberta was very friendly and asked a lot of questions about me, my health, my children, and why I was meeting with her. It was very easy to talk to her. I told her I needed a Will. She explained that I should also have a Power of Attorney and Health Care Proxy. She asked me if I was concerned about protecting my house and savings if I had to go into a nursing home. I was glad she asked. I was worried about it, but didn't know how to ask about what I could do. I didn't want the State to take my housel. She told me about MassHealth, a program that pays for the nursing home. She asked if my husband (he died three years ago) was a veteran. When I said that he served in World War II, she said that I could apply for Veterans Aid and Attendance benefits if I needed money to pay home health aides to help me stay in my home. She also said that I should contact the local Elder Services Agency if I need help to stay in my home. She also explained that if I did no planning, all of my savings and my house could be lost if I had to go into a nursing home. She told me about deeding my house to my children with a life estate for me and setting up a trust that could not be changed. It was a lot of information. Roberta could tell I was confused, so she suggested that we have a second meeting, with my children there. She said that my children would be involved in my estate planning, and they should understand the ways I could protect my house and savings. We had a second meeting with my children at the meeting. After the meeting, we decided that the Trust (an irrevocable trust) was the best way to protect my home and savings. Roberta sent documents to me and my children with a letter explaining everything. I went over the documents with my children. I didn't understand some of the legal language, but my children did, so I felt good about signing the documents. We had a third meeting. Roberta explained everything again before we signed, to make sure that we understood and then we signed the documents. I am so glad I called her. I didn't think that an attorney would be that friendly. She did her best to make sure that I (and my children) understood the documents that we were signing. I admit I don't understand everything, but my children do. And I trust Roberta. I feel like that I did the right things to protect my home and my savings. Roberta is very smart and knows a lot about programs for older clients. My children also like her. My son is going to do his estate plan with her. I like everything about going to her office. There are bowls of candy and I really like her dog, Sam.

I called Attorney Schreiber because my mother has alheimers. She was living with me and my family, and we were all stressed out. I have a part time job, a husband and three children. Someone had to watch my mother all of the time. We had to figure out how to keep her from wandering away from the house or turning on the stove and leaving an empty pot on it. I was exhausted by the time I met with Roberta. The first thing that she did was help us get a Personal Care Attendant through MassHealth, at a very low cost to us. That really helped. When my mother got worse, Roberta helped us find a good nurinsg home nearby and she applied for MassHealth to pay for my mother's care. Roberta made things so much easier for me. She did all of the paperwork to get my mother benefits. She is a very caring person. She understood what I was going through (she told me that her father had been in a nursing home before he died). She always returned my calls. I am so grateful that I found her.

I consulted Attorney Schreiber because I was appointed as Executor of my mother's estate. The first attorney that I hired was not responsive and did not tell me what to do after I was appointed. My sisters were asking what was happening, and I was not able to tell them. A friend told me about Attorney Schreiber and I made an appointment to meet with her. She and her assistant were friendly, and I liked them right away. I was offered cofffe, tea, or water and there was a plate of cookies. Attorney Schreiber was right on time. From the first meeting, she told me exactly what to do. She also gave me a checklist to consult after I left the office. She helped me find a good real estate broker and my mother's house was sold three months later. She told me how to close out my mother's bank accounts and she filled out the paperwork to sell the stock. She wrote to my sisters to tell them what was going on. She worked with my mother's accountant to make sure that the correct tax returns were filed. Everything was settled about eight months after I met with her. My sisters and I got our distributions and the estate was done. My sisters and I are very happy with Attorney Schreiber. She even returned telephone calls on the same day.

I am the guardian of a mentally disabled family member. Some years ago I was embroiled in a long-standing, complex dispute with care providers that could have resulted in devastating and dangerous consequences for my ward. Lara entered my legal case at this point, and assisted in bringing the situation under control in just a few months. Her wisdom, knowledge, patience, calmness and exceptional skills as a negotiator and counselor helped to bring about a solution that was better than anything I had hoped for. Since then, I have continued to work with Lara as my attorney for all guardianship issues, which fortunately, have been relatively routine since that early crisis. Lara has such a passion for protecting and serving the disabled. Her compassion is boundless, yet she is like a rock when she takes a stand for what is needed, and she cannot be manipulated. Her knowledge is extensive, yet she is also guided by intuition. Her ability to be impartial, and to understand (and explain) the differing perspectives of difficult people is, and was so valuable in my personal situation. I learned much from her that still serves me well in my continuing relationships with my ward's present care providers. I would highly recommend Lara as an advocate and a resource to any disabled person, or to anyone who takes care of a disabled person.

I am the owner of a medical case management and guardianship company in Chicago and have had the priviledge of working with Attorney Lara Duda on numerous occasions over the past five years. Lara stands out among attorneys that I work with in many ways, but this is mostly evidenced by her passion to serve disabled and elderly clients and assist in protecting them when they do not have a voice of their own. Lara is extremely knowledgeable in the Elder Law and Probate Law arena and goes above and beyond to ensure that my clients come first.

Sought the advice of Mr. Nebres regarding estate planning. We have a little one now and wanted to plan for her. Mr. Nebres was very thorough and made all the difficult concepts easy to understand. He is very knowledgeable about our concerns in relation to estate planning and brought great suggestions to work around probate. Aside from being very personable, unlike common lawyer stereotypes, I really like the fact that he let us make the decision on our own. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking to plan long term for their family members.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.

Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.

Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
