Do not use this firm. Lauren McCann completely failed my children. She was grossly incompetent. She failed to understand basic facts relevant to the case, and recommended an extreme ruling in favor of the father based on a complete lack of substantiation, in spite of the judge's acknowledgement that I was "highly competent" as a parent and my ex-husband's acknowledgement that I had done a phenomenal job raising our children for 14 years. She basically broke down on the witness stand during cross-examination. She is insecure and unintelligent.

This collection agency took complete advantage of me and my family. After losing my mother and my business due to the pandemic, these people had no room for anything but their money. For an $1,800 debt they agreed to a payment plan of $100 a month. The catch was a $50 per month "legal monitoring fee" and a $250 "plan setup fee" So they actually wanted their legal fees to be the same as the debt payments, plus the additional standard legal fees that happened to be half the cost of the entire debt. So I ended up paying almost $4,000, which is more than 100% profit. Nice for them. If I could give 100 negative stars I would. So go ahead and use this collection agency (oh, excuse me... Lexington Green's premier attorney firm... blah blah) but realize that they are heartless, and not willing to consider any circumstance beyond filling up their Mercedes' gas tanks.

MS SCHMIDT WAS OUR REAL ESTATE ATTORNEY FOR A HOME PURCHASE. DURING OUR DIVORCE PROCEEDINGS SHE INSERTED HERSELF INTO OUR DOMESTIC SCENARIO, COMMUNICATING WITH MY HUSBAND IN AN INFLAMMATORY MANNER USING THE TERM "HEAD CASE" TO DESCRIBE ME , REFERRED TO OUR MARRIAGE AS "AN ORDEAL." AS WE BOTH WERE HER CLIENTS I FELT HER BEHAVIOR TO BE INAPPROPRIATE AND UNPROFESSIONAL. I WOULD ESPECIALLY RED FLAG THIS ATTORNEY TO WOMEN GOING THROUGH DIVORCE.

Absolutely the worst experience I have ever experienced ! Doesn't represent his clients interest, just his own. He actually raised his voice and screamed at my girlfriend over the phone , repeatedly spoke down to her as if she wasn't an intelligent person ( she has a masters degree) she called after the closing about a month ago and has called and sent emails and he still hasn't attempted to show any type of professionalism by returning her calls!! Really?? (It's been about a month) and for this terrible service that she paid $895 fee and the going rate in the area is $495 he still has not responded ! DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND STAY CLEAR OF THE ARROGANT ATTOURNEY !!

I’m not sure if it’s Attorney Aleman or her incompetent Paralegal Kathryn Ruff-Hill but the communication with this lawyer was completely impossible. They’re unprofessional, unhelpful, and only looking to earn themselves more money and take advantage of people seeking their help.

We hired this elder law attorney in 2005-06 to prepare our wills, etc. When it became necessary to conduct further business in 2015, I was treated with extreme disrespect and condescension, consequently, I do not recommend this attorney and urge people to seek legal aid elsewhere.

Overcharged by at least $1000! Most of contact through emails. Referred by another professional we use. The original email from Atty. Reynolds included his rate and paralegal rate. Spoke briefly and then some personal issues came up so did not connect until a year later. Our wills were already available from late 90’s and were given to him. Wanted updates and revisions. Basic will and living will. Fee was absolutely ridiculous and that was after a professional courtesy discount. He claimed that he spent 11 hours of his time in it and did not bother to tell me that he no longer had a paralegal who would have just done the draft. No, paralegals do more than drafts. He said that if I had gone to a big Hartford law firm, I would hav3 paid $5,000. Was defensive and rude when I called him about bill but I just wanted a basic conversation. Was so disappointed and felt so taken advantage of. Would never recommend him and have shared my experience with many.

I spoke with Attorney Blume about representing me and my husband in a property tax appeal. She did not appear fully knowledgeable, but I thought I could work with her. Attorney Blume sent an engagement letter for me and my husband to sign. It contained an hourly fee that was above what I was quoted on the phone. It also contained numerous other fees. At the end of the engagement letter, Atty Blume said to contact her to ask any questions. I sent and email with questions about all the other fees and when they would be applied. Without elaboration, Ms. Blume responded by stating she would not take my case since I appeared "uncomfortable" with the fee agreement. No questions were answered. This was very unprofessional. I am very happy I did not sign that fee agreement. Since she would not answers questions about the complicated fee agreement, I seriously doubt she would provide effective representation.

From past experience this lawyer will throw you under the bus. He will redact papers in order to keep your money. This is fact so be careful. Settle your case abd tell you its not settled because you may have signed papers. If you are asked to give power to negotiate dont do it because that paper might say you settle your case for a small amount that way you cant even get undeinsured claim process. Hey people this lawyer said the case waz settled for a dollar. When one party settled for an amount and the other party settled for a dollar something is wrong. Thats it he complained and left me to represent myself. I get hurt by a hit and run guy. There were two of us and he settled for an amount with the other party but me he said i have hom permission to settle for a dollar. Now my underinsured claim is in jeopardy. I was told a lot of bs you know. I was done wrong big time. I hace not gone to the right place i am waiting for my old insurance to do the right thing. But i will not use this lawyer anymore. Papers did not look right compare to what i signed but oh well. I do not matter.

Eliot Nerenberg never even filed a motion after I hired him to represent me in a custody and Child support matter. I kept waiting for a court date and after almost two months I asked him why it was taking so long and at that time he said he hadn’t expected my ex to be as difficult and uncooperative. Apparently Eliot thought an agreement could be reached without going in front of a judge but he was wrong. I used up what I had in savings to retain Eliot and he never filed the motion. I was devastated that someone I trusted and once thought so highly of was so cavalier as he said he would need another $10,000 to proceed with filing the motion.

Not a good lawyer... Based on my experience working with this attorney I would look else where. Did not represent my interests and mostly focused on billing me as much as he could get away with. Often I was ill advised and this attorney was not forthcoming on many issues. There are too many other lawyers in CT to choose from. Why settle for a second rate attorney?

This guy was shown an email from the opposing Attorney, he chastised me for its content! Needless to say he should understand there's going to be 'feelings' and that he absolutely should not take those into account especially since he works for me and that's his job to be opened minded, considerate and compassionate with his clients! I was livid to say the least, AND AS A RESULT WILL NEVER EVER use this man again.... It was his poor judgement at best, that got him this review.... The outcome would have been same or better and 1500.00 less, if I did the case myself too! Needless to say it was my poor judgment in selecting him.

I can’t imagine it is possible to be more negligent or unprofessional than Michael Burdo. Hired as my real estate attorney for the sale of my home he did the bare minimum, failing to properly inform me or my realtor that my closing date had been extended a month, causing stress and financial losses and ultimately holding the funds from my closing for over two weeks with no response or explanation whatsoever upon my multiple inquiries. When approached in efforts to discuss and try to resolve matters I was completely ignored. I have never personally experienced such professional incompetence.

5 Bad Things about my experience hiring Kevin Connors to represent my mother's estate. 1) He said it would take a year. It took 3 years and 8 months. During this time, there was no regular communication nor was the process clear. I felt so low priority. There were no Christmas cards or anything like that. 2) I was told inaccurate information that sent me to an accountant meeting who had no idea what I was talking about. I sat there feeling completely unsupported having wasted time. 3) Failed to build trust. Bursts of emails or calls would be followed by long periods of quiet and non-response. Late fees and other costs accrued due to lack of communication. When they sent a letter to my brother, it triggered him and there was never an apology for that. 4) It was grueling and painful. Every single month I sent in the bank and check stubs for the estate account. I was told to close the account too early. It was disrespectful just to take the money out of the check to my brother instead of finishing up business professionally. 5) They closed the branch close to my home without notice. The main branch looks like something out of depictions of skid row.

Renee was my second attorney in family court. At first it took me days and days to reach her and for he to get my sent documents emailed. Told me not to talk to or do thing s with cps unless talked about with her or she was there and then just totally went unreachable. Tried to say she never got my emails meanwhile they are all sent in my sent box. Renee did NOTHING for my case. When I got a new one, my file was blank and I had her for months. She withdrew 2 days before my trial. Was rude and told me I had no chance no matter what. Actually has been uncovered how actually Renee is in the pocket of cps. Stay away from her.

This attorney was hired because my children were taken by DCF they were taking me to trial to terminate my rights. The day of the trial my lawyer convinced me to sign my rights away. He never helped me to fight. Every question I had he had no answer to. And it seemed he could care less if we won or not and would sit in the conference room with DCF laughing and talking so how can a client feel safe with her lawyer when he is doing that with the ones I'm supposed to be against definitely don't recommend him to anyone fighting for their children

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.

Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
