Mr. Caughman took our case and instilled much trust in us that he was going to do what he said he would do....HE DID!!! We will always be grateful for his work and honesty throughout the process. He promised us we would get custody and we did! Mr. Caughman went above and beyond what was expected of him.

Ms. Boykin represented my son and our family during a custody case involving his sons. I had to hire an attorney because the mother had taken the boys to another state and we lost contact with them for 6 months. A private investigator was hired and found the boys within days - which got the mother (and boys) back here and Ms. Boykin started working on preparing for a custody hearing. I don't know if the judge was simply "real" mad at the mother, if Ms. Boykin is a super great attorney or a combination of both - I suspect it was both but we ended up with a better custody agreement than we thought possible. This grandma is very pleased that she is now spending lots of time with her grands! In case you want to know what the agreement was: every weekend, half of summer/winter vacation, every other year for tax deductions, equal division of holidays, notification of school events and if the mother takes the boys out of state without notifying my son - he gets custody. They share evenly the cost of medical expenses. The mother also has to provide a way for the boys to phone their father and not interfere with them doing so.

I've worked with other attorneys before but Mr. Protopapas has been the best by far. He's a straight shooter that helped me when I needed it most. His vast experience with business litigation was the reason I was able to survive. I had a great experience having him as my attorney and I would absolutely recommend him to anyone needing help with an LLC or business dispute. If I ever have another business problem again he's going to be my first phone call.

Allen is the go to attorney for builder, developer, real estate, finance, employment, contract and litigation law. Allen works with very few clients and continues to be Eastwood Homes General Consel. Allen works regionally and is a sought after attorney. Personally, Allen is uncharacteristically responsive for an attorney, which is great service. Recommend totally.

Came to Mr. Fudenberg via a recommendation/referral. That was a good day. Have worked with several lawyers in the past, both as plaintiff and as defendant. Mr. Fudenberg is unique among them. His knowledge of the law is clear, but what set him apart is his ability to distill, creatively synthesize and communicate. Yes, he makes the case well - which I suppose at the end of the day is what matters most - but to do so, he also listens, with what appears to be a goal of understanding, not just placating. Besides being flat-out refreshing, I believe it makes him that much more effective.

What can I say? I had just completed an Iron Butt, and after a couple days of rest I was headed out to visit some Tour of Honor Monuments. Fifteen or so minutes from the hotel, some dude ran a stop sign and took me down. Then he fled the scene. In the big scheme of things, I was blessed. After I recovered from having my bell rung, I was nearly immediately assisted by a First Responder who just happened to be there. That got the machine running, and I was able to call 911. Fortunately, there was a conscientious witness there to give a description of the perp, and I was soon assisted by what I assume was the Anderson, SCFD (including the most beautiful fireperson I have ever seen )! After I was transported and released from the hospital, I returned to my hotel and bumped into a guy I had been talking to previously. He recommended that I contact Chad Fuller. I was in pain and a bit shell shocked, so I did not do so right away. But as the pain got worse and the perp's insurance company (Allstate) started to be "not nice," I called Chad. From that point on, he and Katie took me under their wings and helped me through the entire process. I didn't quite win the lottery or anything--and I know that since they are from the South they are wonderful folks by nature, but the help and support they provided was invaluable. Chad even got me set up with some folks to help support other Veterans along the way. I hope you don't ever need them--but if you do, call Chad and Katie! I need to add that I have grown to HATE attorneys; but Chad and Katie and not just attorneys--they are people. Good people. Thank you!

Awesome attorney! Old school but he is amazing at creating new defenses. He's honest and will give you honest feedback. He represented me at a trial by jury. His defense was so tight that the prosecutor, the judge, nor the arresting officer even knew what he was presenting. But, it was legit and presented facts supported by laws. He literally had the prosecutor standing with her knees visibly shaking and requesting a break. He does his homework!!! I would never use anyone else.

My situation was one where I needed to transfer property out of an estate before the new tax year arrived. I called their office during the second week of December to see if they could do this quickly. Alan and his staff are professional and efficient! This particular task was relatively simple, but they did this for me during a time when they busy with other clients. I am still impressed and grateful. I recommend that folks consider using Alan Berry to handle legal related tasks. Latta is lucky to have a good attorney here in town.

After speaking to several lawyers in my area, and feeling as though the process of divorce would be costly and unpleasant, even though there were few reasons it should be, I met with Craig in his Historic Downtown office. He made me feel at home, and comfortable that it didn't have to be so terrible. He stayed in communication with me, helped me not to worry when other lawyers were involved, and through humor, made the process far less grueling than it could have been. In the end, his estimated costs were spot on, and there were no hidden fees or surprises. I would highly recommend anyone to use him.

Mr Williamson handled our estate planning, wills, healthcare power of atty, etc. It was done in a first class manner with thorough explanations of every item. I would recommend Mr Williamson to anyone wanting complete estate planning for future needs along with all directives for healthcare decisions. His prices were extremely reasonable, and the staff was efficient and timely. In my opinion, he's one of the best because he's not only a lawyer, but also a CPA.

I just recently had a horrible experience with a hospital. Jones Andrews contacted me right back, told me of his experience with this particular hospital, who he knew there, their lawyers, etc. He told me that I wasn't going to get a lot out of this case, but he was livid about my treatment and wanted to represent me regardless of the small percentage. He immediately got on the phone calling his contacts, and feeling the situation out. Very impressive. Calls back immediately and tells you the straight truth, with no sugar coating or BS. Thanks, Jones!

Hard working, attention to detail, unusally high degree of intelligence, and strong moral character, balanced with a genuine compassion that makes him truly care, about doing the very best job for the betterment of those who seek his counsel. These are the words I use to describe Brice Ricker. When you find yourself in a situation that is of great importance to your life, and you know you're going to need someone to help you, to get to where you want to be? You'll want to call that one person, the one person on whom you know you can depend. That one person who has the skills, the knowledge, the abilities, and the desire to produce the best possible outcome, on your behalf. Call that one person who has the experience, and just as importantly the depth of understanding, that will treat you (and your case) with the dignity, and the representation that you deserve. I call Brice Ricker. My case wasn't easy. Since the onset of my injuries, I've spent over fifteen (15) years enduring numerous procedures and many types of physical therapies. I consider myself truly fortunate for the nature of the medical treatment that I received in the past, and continue to receive to this day. But sometimes in life, there can be debilitating injuries that may accompany you for the rest of your life. Despite the years, and the feet-high stack of medical records, I was still denied twice and had only the last resort of a hearing before an Administrative Court Judge with the presence of a Social Security Disability Representative, to decide my fate. The outcome, a true blessing to myself and my family. You can "hope" that your case is considered by a good and conscientious Court Judge. But you can "choose" the right person to guide you through this process. Personally, I couldn't have asked for anything more, in any and every aspect related to my case, and my representation by Brice Ricker. I've been blessed to have family and friends who have worked for years in some powerful legal firms. Hence, I've been fortunate at times to "have the ear" of some of the best legal minds in the business. When something is of such great importance, I want the smartest, hardest working, and most dependable person in the room, sitting next to me. And I still call Brice Ricker. * Full Disclosure: I am of no relation to Brice Ricker and before this case, I had never met or known of Brice Ricker. Humbly, and with much Gratitude; J. N. McDonald February 2016

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
