When I called to schedule a meeting with Ms. Spitler I was told it would be $200 which would also include the cost of the initial filing. At the end of our meeting I ended up paying $600 for Ms. Spitler to tell me I had a case but she only represents businesses and referred me to another attorney

I hired wade for a custody case where I was seeking custody of my daughter from her mentally ill mother. I paid Wade in full up front. I was given a time line of 6 weeks to move the case through the courts. I emailed him over several weeks to get an update and attempted to call his office as well and no response. Finally by chance he answered one day about 2 months out and said he would call me within 24 yours with a court date. 4 weeks later no court date. After a total of 6 emails and the same amount of phone calls and voice messages I get an email apologizing and giving me a court date 1 week from the date he emails me. How inconsiderate is that of an attorney. I am not sure of how he is in court because we didn't make it that far but he is horrible at communication and follow-up.

I retained Mr. Lucchetti for a personal injury case. I promptly turned over my thorough documents and he promptly filed the needed paperwork. But I didn’t hear from him for several months even after I notified him of a witness. . I left several messages with his assistant Anya to call, but he didn’t. It wasn’t an issue since time wasn’t a factor. After one message I left, he finally did call back. Unfortunately my phone powered off after 18 seconds, and I was unable to recharge immediately since my flight out of Dulles was boarding. Long story short, I received a fedex letter a couple days later informing m he dropped me as a client because I wasn’t respectful of his time. Again, the guy maintained radio silence for six months with no updates and didn’t return my calls, but my phone dies and he immediately terminates the relationship. Dude is a F.L.A.K.E!

I was a client of M. Adams. He convinced me to start a case. I submitted him all the necessary information and paid almost the whole retainer. At pretrial hearing weird things happened. He gave me to sign a document right before hearing with values which didn’t match the information I provided and said that decision won’t be based on it – it’s just formality. You want to trust your lawyer. He wouldn’t say things he was supposed to protect me as his client. I had to stand for myself as much as I could, which is difficult when you have attorney. Pre-trial decision was very fair for Defendant and didn’t comply with M. Adams’s promises. After confronting him – I didn’t get any answer and he wouldn’t answer for a month with my request to give me my file. In a month he contacted, apologized. I still was hoping that it may work and I couldn’t quite afford to pay to another attorney. We met once to file one more document and then he disappeared again. It left very little time before final hearing and I was trying to contact him. Finally we met and he gave me any bill with ridiculous charges and acted against agreement. I realized I need to pick up file. I was shocked after reviewing it. He could take oath on one date and submit documents on another, which wouldn’t match what you gave him. He was late on all terms and all important documents were filed in favor of Defendant.

This kept saying the one major piece of evidence we had wasn't worthy in court ended up using that exact evidence in his closing statement. He treats you like you are a criminal until he hears your own witnesses. He likes to say " I will take your money", and don't think you can explain the story to him, he only wants a couple facts and stops you mid way through any imperative information. He forgets what he says and when I remind him what he said, he down talks you like you are an idiot. You'd be better off defending yourself.

I Retained Mr Kokerelis For a Contested Divorce and He Failed in all Phases of the Divorce, Including His Poor Prep and Circuit Court Litigation. In the Initial Consultation He Talked a Good Game But Failed To Deliver As An Experienced Attorney. He was more interested in trying to collect Attorney Fees rather than Prepare, Fight, Litigate and Provide a good outcome for me as his Client. He Also wasn't Forthcoming with with Information that he knew and also made Decisions without Consulting me as a Client. Dont Make the Same mistake I did. you will Regret it! He is Old and Not a Competent Attorney. Look Elsewhere 0 Star Attorney!

Jeff was unresponsive, missed a crucial deadline, and ran my bill 5x over what he estimated. He claims he's in the golden years of his practice, which led me to believe he has a lot of experience. Turns out, he never practiced family law until recently. Horrible waste of money for a matter that had only minor issues.

IF I COULD GIVE NO STAR, I WOULD As a woman who suffered DOMESTIC VIOLENCE with 4 children whom two are special needs at the hands of my soon to be ex-husband, I sought an attorney who would care to fight for me and my children through out my contentious divorce case. Pilar was referred to me so I contacted, consulted and hired her to represent me. Not only was she unprofessional not responding to calls/emails from me but Pilar, without my permission, turned my case over to Garret who is incompetent. My Pendente Lite hearing in October 2021 was continued because forgot to serve my soon to be ex husband.WHO FORGETS TO SERVE DIVORCE PAPERS AND REALIZES A WEEK BEFORE TRIAL??? I have contacted PIlar numerous times saying I did not want Garrett handling my case anymore after this major ball drop. Pilar continued to ignore me and allowed Garret to screw up my case. The PL hearing was rescheduled to December 3,2021 giving my ex husband the opportunity to hide assets. Once we got to DEC 3, 2021, Opposite Counsel asked for the case not to be heard because Garrett FAILED to respond to their offer with a counter offer. ANOTHER MAJOR BALL DROPPED BY GARRETT. The judge granted the request to opposite council and then, it was rescheduled to the 17th of Dec 2021. The worst part....My ex husband was not served with discovery nor did they draft one prior to the hearing. My ex/abuser whom has a law degree took this as an opportunity to lie about losing contracts from his business and got away with lying about not having income. As a result of Garret not being prepared to court, the Judge, had no choice to believe my ex didn't have money...because there was no proof from our end to support that he did...since GARRET AND PILAR FAILED. I ended up getting below the guideline support for the kids and I since my ex "had no money." Garret filed the discovery after the PL hearing. By this time, it was little too late...especially I was depending on being awarded legal fees since I was a stay at home mom and primary care giver to my four children. I finally FIRED them at this point. Had Garret not missed serving him in OCT 2021, my ex would not have had the time to get away lying to the court about his income since we had his financial docs at that time.I emailed PILAR many times that I did not want him on my case but she ignored me. There are google review where people have complained the same issue where Pilar turned their cases without permission to Garret. I should have taken those into account. Also during the PL hearing, I got to learn that he was NOT attentive as he misrepresented and said the wrong things to the judge despite me emailing him and correcting him. That's how bad of a lawyer he is...can't even pay attention to details.

I was left standing in front of a judge, and several attorneys for the state, alone, because my attorney failed to show up or answer anyone's calls ( not mine or the other attorneys involved in my case). I have placed several calls to Mrs. Piper, and her receptionist (who has informed me that my messages were given to Mrs. Piper) about my $5000.00 retainer, the remaining balance, and an itemized billing statement. My questions have remained unanswered, for months. To abandon families at possibly the worst and most terrifying time of their lives is appalling, and Mrs. Piper should be ashamed. Unless you want to pay a sizable retainer to an attorney that leaves you unrepresented, and will not return calls concerning your money, I highly recommend finding a different firm.

I hired this attorney for a probate issue and I can tell you with no reservations he is absolutely the worst attorney I’ve ever encountered even worse than LL Bean , attorney in Sterling , Virginia which I had also. Mr. Brown did everything he could to get out of my case in my opinion it was do to his fear of reprisal with Other colleagues In the judicial system and , I later found out after getting my documents from his office he was doing everything he could to get out of my case Behind my back. In my opinion this attorney should do three things learn how to be honest to his client, be worthy of belief and go back to lawyer School and learn how to be an attorney Of good character because as far as I’m concerned he is absolutely the worst attorney that I have ever had or ever Hire again . I learned a lot from this guy And about attorneys and my advice to you is to really research attorneys starting with a call to the disciplinary board to see if they Had any violations against them also check them out on the Internet . Good luck

I have worked with Mrs.Langenberg with our HOA. She claims knowing the law, but showed no knowledge of zoom meetings being allowed doing Covid. She is misrepresenting the bylaws of our HOA and lying about facts that didn't happen. Our Bylaws require liens on properties when there are unpaid dues and yet in 10 years collecting delinquent accounts she never did. We as an HOA lost a lot of money because of her. If you owe money she will drag you to court and will keep sending you checks back if you try to pay. There is no online pay to pay her. If you look for an attorney keep looking.

I hired Archer Jones to fight a custody case for me as well as review my divorce paperwork. Initially he was upbeat about my case and I paid the retainer . A week later, his attitude completely changed. No longer upbeat, he accused me of doing the same things my ex-wife was alleging. I fired him and found a lawyer who fairly represented me and my child instead of believing my ex-wife and her lawyer. Those false allegations fell apart in court and I was able to increase my time with my daughter to 50/50. After letting him know I was going to have someone else represent me, Archer charged me an exorbitant fee to review legal paperwork that he did not author and was standard language for divorce decrees, and refused to return the retainer. I cannot express the pain of hiring someone only to have them accuse you of the same garbage your ex-wife is spreading about you. I recommend him to no one except my ex-wife. Please don't put your children's future in his hands.

DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR 1 STAR TOO BUT THAT IS THE LEAST ONE CAN RATE! Mr. John Trexler – Very unprofessional! Does not care for client's time and urgency. Worst experience ever! I reached out to Mr. John Trexler's office multiple times and spoke to front desk and requested to take a message for me and as they informed me that the only way to reach out to him was to leave a voicemail. So, I indeed left a voicemail. Also, called the next 3 days to follow up and left a voicemail couple of times since 10/14 and until date waiting for help and yesterday, I get a response that he never got my voicemails and also by email he informed me that he is not available for next 2 weeks and finally today he has asked me to seek help from a different lawyer. Of course, he offered to setup a conference call on 10/25 and 10/26 to talk but when I requested to have a quick call as those dates are too far out, he did not even care reply. Instead in the last email he claims that I did not avail that opportunity, however I was waiting for him to accommodate my request to advance the appointment date and help out. My tenant vacated abruptly without paying rent and damaging the house. The issue is this lawyer is subscribed to MetLife (not many handling tenant problem cases) through my employer and there are not many that handle rental tenant issues. It is unfortunate that these type of unrespectful attorneys get a chance to participate in employer sponsored programs and able to capture huge customer base with great ratings online and when approached disrespect clients by not even having the basic courtesy to return a client's phone call. Avoid this stubborn attorney and he does not deserve to be rated highly. Possibly it is all rigged and he is writing his own reviews. I will look for another helpful attorney. Thanks.

Due to Jim not keeping up with our case I was forced to pay thousands of dollars. We were referred to Jim by family who is now ashamed to have known him. Even his firm verified with us he royally messed our case up and we could have had a very different out come. If you choose to use Jim, whom is a very kind man, please make sure you keep up with him. You will need to contact him constantly to remind him of things and keep him going. You can't assume he'll take care of something he said he'll look into. I completely recommend Ravid and associates just not Jim Brady!

If I could give Mr. Danieli zero stars, I would. He dragged my divorce case on for over a year and a half, claiming he couldn’t do anything. After I switched to a new lawyer, my case was resolved in just one week—and completely in my favor. During his time representing me, Mr. Danieli didn’t listen to my requests and consistently took steps against my wishes. He seemed more focused on sending bills for every little detail than actually helping me. His office was just as bad—ignoring emails, making numerous mistakes, and still charging me for them. I’m so relieved I finally switched lawyers. I would never recommend Mr. Danieli to anyone because it was clear he doesn’t know how to do his job or care about his clients.

Beware. This attorney is very deceptive. She presents well but once you hire her it is near impossible to get her to act on your behalf. She will take as much money as she can get from you but do nothing to help you prevail in court. Very unprepared and very dishonest. Hopefully this will help someone make a better choice. There are too many other reputable attorneys out there that have integrity. She is just looking for people who are vulnerable that she can take advantage of for financial gain. Completely disheveled and disorganized.

I hoped that I can help my client to work with this lawyer. however, respectfully I contacted Mrs. Oti Winifred Uku Nwosu regarding a straightforward easy immigration matter involving the Affidavit of Support. Despite multiple attempts to clarify the client’s urgent legal needs, I found her unresponsive, inattentive, and unfamiliar with the enforcement requirements mandated by USCIS. She showed no interest in hearing legal specifics and quickly dismissed relevant USCIS law I referenced, disregarding both the information provided and the applicable immigration law readily available on the USCIS website. When asked if she had handled similar cases before, she claimed she had; however, I question how she managed such cases while seemingly unaware of the Affidavit of Support’s 10-year duration. She was quick to dismiss this legal requirement without any legal basis to support her opinion. Incorrectly, she insisted that the Affidavit of Support obligation lasts only 5 years, contrary to the 10-year period outlined by USCIS. This fundamental misinformation, combined with her sarcastic and judgmental attitude, raised concerns, as it could easily dissuade a client from pursuing their legal rights based on her incorrect opinion when, in fact, federal law does allow them to proceed. More troubling was her dismissive comment advising the disabled, 85-year-old client to “find a job” rather than pursue his legal right to support from his sponsor, showing a lack of understanding of both the Affidavit’s obligations and the realities of age and disability. Based on this experience, I would not recommend her for immigration-related cases, as she seemed quick to draw incorrect conclusions without supporting legal knowledge, or consideration for the client’s legal needs

So I hired this attorney for my case against a builder. She told us she would charge twenty five percent of the total amount she would collect. We agreed but when she did a poor job of resolving the case she changed us extra fees, wonder why . To us it looks very dishonest. But she did it shamefully and charged us about $241 on top of the twenty five percent. We were thinking of a couple of other cases to her but her behavior was such we decided to never go to her again.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.

Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
