Felt overwhelmed about speaking with this attorney. I needed some legal and being from South America, it was very nerve racking trying to explain my situation to this woman. I felt ignored and patronized as though I was a child. I did not feel I could trust this persons ability in understanding and relaying my situation in court.

I placed my trust in Amy Lambert to my later regret. Among other things, when I needed a quick response she was unavailable so I had to rely on a family member who was an attorney. In hindsight the advice given was not appropriate and the results have been devastating to my family. Would not recommend.

I hired Tom Murphy to help me pursue a Real Estate Legal Action against a Management Company. I signed an Engagement Agreement and paid him $1,500 retainer to start the case. Later we mutually agreed to terminate the relationship. Tom Murphy sent me a Invoice and proceeded not to refund me the balance of the retainer fund. There is no clause in our Agreement Contact that states he can keep the retainer money if terminated. I'm pursuing him through Texas Bar Association for Ethical Misconduct.

He is involved in an action destroying his, wife, Adrienn's parents with false accustions of sexual misconduct with her as a youth, which is denied vehemtily by both parents. It is unclear why she would do this or why James Hart would go along with it. It is highly suspected she is going though a mental breakdown, as she has a history of depression and under the treatment of a clinical pshycologyst and on anti-depressants for a number of years. This is a heiness act of attempting to destroy her parents, and makes no sense. James should convince her to cease and desisst at onc and drop the charges.

I initially contacted Amanda Hanlon via email. She responded quickly and asked for all of my legal insurance information, which I provided. Amanda Hanlon set up a phone meeting for the following week. The day of the scheduled meeting my wife & I cleared our calendars so that we could meet with Amanda Hanlon, who was supposed to call us. We waited for 30 minutes...Amanda Hanlon never called and did not respond to an email asking for her number so that we could call her. The next day I emailed Amanda Hanlon to provide feedback that I was disappointed that she didn't bother to call us at the scheduled time or text/email that she would not be at the appointment. She responded that she "had an emergency" the previous day and that is why she missed the meeting. I asked if we could reschedule...that was a week ago and she hasn't responded to that request either.  I think it's very unprofessional to collect all billing information, arrange a meeting, and then completely ghost the clients not once, but twice. We spent about 2 weeks trying to schedule 2 meetings with Amanda Hanlon, when we could have been working with another attorney that is more than 0% responsive. I expected more from an attorney and especially a realtor, who are usually much more responsive. This was not a good experience at all with Amanda Hanlon.

We were sent to Kathy through our employer at a discounted rate and Kathy treated us like we were discounted customers. I'd say representing us in mediation was an overstatement. She rushed us through mediation because she had another client and our wishes for the updated order were inaccurate due to her rushing. When we emailed her to follow up on anything, she was like a robot that would just forward our email to the other lawyer. She didn't put any thought or effort into anything. She just forwarded emails between the people involved but never stood up for us when the other lawyer was incorrect. She was late on meeting the deadline for submitting our new order for child support and we were left to take the money out of our checks ourselves, instead of it coming from our employer properly and no one could agree on the correct amount we would owe. We submitted money to the other parent through our bank per the lawyers orders and 6 months later we were in trouble with the attorney general saying we never paid. They wouldn't even accept the payment. Our lawyer Kathy said we wouldn't even owe because they missed the deadline with submitting the be order but that wasn't true. We paid anyway and then it didn't even count. Then we owed more money. All because she didn't do her job. That and when we emailed her after mediation she told us we would owe more money to retain her to keep working with her. When she didn't even finish the job and we were now fighting over money owed because the lawyers missed the damn deadline!! She's the worst. Never ever ever hire her. She seems okay until you pay her and she deems her job over. She doesn't care at all.

I was in a car accident in early January 2015 where the other party admitted 100% fault. I spoke with and signed an agreement with Edward Hensley a few weeks later. Over the course of the next 10 months the following things happened: 1. I was never contacted by the firm for updates on my case. I always had to call them and every time, I was told they were "still waiting" on forms from my medical providers. I finished my primary treatment in May 2015 (though I have residual injuries), at which point any competent lawyer should have begun moving the case along. 2. My hospital bill from January 6 went to collections, which I found out as I was attempting to obtain a mortgage in late 2015. The firm told me on the phone every time I called that they had been requesting and waiting for the hospital to release the records, but the only documentation in my file showed that they did not request the records until October 27 - nearly 10 months after the accident! 3. They switched my case to Deborah Hensley without informing me. I did not know that my case had been switched to Deborah until I finally decided to switch attorneys. 4. Even though they did almost no discernible work on my case (as evidenced by the files they turned over to me), they are attempting to hold a lien on my case so that I cannot move forward with another attorney. Deborah Hensley requested on November 2 that any new attorney contact her. I have had a new firm attempting to contact her every few days since November 5, and I have contacted them myself 3 times. They have refused to return any calls for 3 weeks so my case is now stuck. I will be filing a grievance with the State Bar Association of Texas for incompetent counsel and refusal to maintain contact.

I am fortunate enough to say that I was never represented by Lopez, but a friend had and she was horribly traumatized by having to work with such a terrible human being. Having been with her to more than one meeting, I can say that with confidence. No one ever wants to need a lawyer, but to deal with a woman who has such an odd skew of reality and no self awareness or compassion is honestly disgusting. I wish I could get her disbarred.

After paying Lara Silva to represent my sister in an appeal, we paid $45k. Lara Silva did not provide services. She took the payment and then stopped all communications with me. She filed an Anders Brief and then requested to have it removed after we paid her. She does not respond to email, text or calls. She claims Trump as an excuse for her behavior. Extremely unprofessional at best. Pros: she has a nice last name.

My consultation with Ms Sullivan was truly horrible. She was the most unprofessional attorney I have ever encountered. She showed no capability of listening to all parties involved with impartiality and objectivity and became stunningly rude and aggressive during the course of the meeting. I would absolutely never hire her for representation in any legal matter.

My daughter passed away at birth 1998 and we hired Ryan as our lawyer. We were told by Ryan we needed to file a paper to show we were serious. Less than a month later he called with news hospital was ready to settle. He also informed us that his fee was 40% plus expenses, I told him it was 33% unless we went to court' He informed me because we filed that the paper he claimed was needed it was 40%. I told him I did not care if we ever settled that he misled us Just then phone started beeping because it was running out of batteries.Ryan was concerned I was taping him.I told him what do have to worry about. Then I told him the reason for beeping and hung up. Needles to say he had us over a barrel. So out of the goodness of his black heart he settled for 36% with hospital and 40% for doctor plus expenses. He ended up with more money then we received from doctor after expenses about 60/40. Expenses very questionable restaurants experts/ friends! I did try to file in 2000 with State bar in Austin but gave up it is difficult. Since then my son passed away also. I started thinking people do not need the person who is supposed to help take advantage of your lack of knowledge during the worst time of your life. In his defense this happened 19 years ago maybe he changed. Please beware!

I filed a complaint against some fraud and forgery that was done in my home purchase. Received the report back and the Lead investigator turned the tables. I then sent an email to the Director of Enforcement and was asked to give them 60 more days. Aimee Cooper, a staff attorney under Bucholtz management was the attorney reviewing the case, who is also moonlighting for Texas Realty Partners. I have contacted Bucholtz on several occasions to ensure fraudulent realtors are not able to practice in Texas but as I have been shown, the commissioner don’t care so truly what is the purpose of attorneys or the commission! Tax payers dollars wasted. Consumer fraud

High Fee: 150 for an hour consultation. I don't mind to pay money but I do mind when I wasted the money. Information that provided: He didn't give me any constructive information. If you have the Internet, you can save yourself 150 bucks. Just remember to go to the government's websites. Experience and background: I asked him to meet at his office. He refused and we met in a coffee shop. I asked him did he has any experiences he said he did hundreds of immigration cases, which I found untruthful based on how little he knows about visas for people who have Masters degree and so on. I asked him for his licensure information and maybe a little background info. He didn't provide. Knowledge: I told him my situation he said there is no way to help me stay in America unless I found another company (in couple months). I asked him if there any other alternatives. He said no. I asked him about marriage (the only reason I asked was because my boyfriend and I were considering getting married at the time. Now we are happily married. He is not US citizen either). He said yes, it could be a way, "if that a true marriage". I was shocked even though I didn't show. I found that insulting. I think that's very rude and unprofessional. Whole experience: After talking to him, I felt very sad and hopeless. I talked to my friends and they all suggested me to find a different lawyer which I did. I am glad I did. The other la I have found a different lawyer and employees and they provided me many different options and they have a very reasonable charge scale. Actual office, licenses on the wall, 13 years of experience, resourceful and very kind and patient. The best thing was after we worked together, we were in touch for awhile just so they know how I was doing. I had asked many questions through email and no charge. This is just my experience. I hope my review doesn't have any unfair bias. Whoever is reading this, good luck with your process and don't let go of hope and love even when "the worst" has happened.

I think that what some lawyers fail to understand is that they are completely in control of someone’s life when they are appointed. She failed to inform about court dates and court information. Her technique for being a lawyer I’m convinced is avoidance. Being so young in the field she is in, May have something to do with that. But I would think you would have more drive to prove yourself, was wrong. Spent over a month in jail correcting her mistakes. Lost my job. All because I missed a court date that someone I was FRIENDS WITH FACEBOOK ON did not inform me on. I mean come on. FRIENDS. ON. FACEBOOK. How would you not inform me of a court date? How could you tell me that the case was getting DISMISSED? 3 bond Forfeitures later, $2000 later, I will never hire or have this girl as my lawyer ever again. Waste of time, completely negligent. Actually thinking of suing.

She is a public defender for Colorado Springs. She will not call you, email you or make any effort to contact you at all! She doesn't fight for her clients and doesn't even attempt to put in a counter offer to the DA. I have never had such an incompetent and non caring lawyer in all my life. She doesn't even recognize me at my court dates, I have to remind her of who I am. I understand that she's working for the state and being compensated for her time by tax payers dollars, but if she chose this profession she should make an effort to try and do her job. Everyone I spoke to who has her as their lawyer had the same experiences with her as I have. Maybe she is overloaded with clients, but she does get paid to represent us and therefore it is up to her to get her situation fixed. We shouldn't have to be pressured into taking deals we don't want all because she doesn't do her job. She's an unorganized mess in the courtroom as well. And I mean mess in every sense of the word! She doesn't even brush her hair. She's very young and seemingly clueless, I think she should look into another line of employment. Poor people beware, if you get stuck with her, immediately request new defense or you'll be stuck in a very bad situation.

This man is a risk management attorney for The University of Texas Physicians Healthcare System, and he was assigned to my case when my doctor, Michael Greaser, severely injured me. As I begged Mr. Boughal for healthcare help, I was stunned to see how dishonest he was, and how neglectful he was. When I wrote him and my doctor a note letting them know of my desperation, fear and suicidal feelings, he got right back to me telling that my note was "embarrassing, annoying and a waste of time". I have found numerous other patients that have been injured by doctors with The University of Texas Physicians, whose case had been referred to Tim Boughal who had similar experiences as mine. As one of them told me, "in my darkest and most desperate hour, I felt that Mr Boughal treated me like I was a dead dog on the side of the interstate". I just thought that, on behalf of many, it is time to point out how this man conducts his affairs. Because, to repeat, when I told him how injured I was - and that I was thinking of taking my own life - he felt it appropriate to tell me that I was "annoying" him. I will take that note with me to my grave. Thank you for allowing me to get these facts out to the public so that, if somebody is forced to deal with Mr. Boughal, they are a bit more knowledgeable about exactly who they are dealing with than the rest of us have been.

Please do not hire Keith. He is one of the worst lawyers in Austin, Texas. He will lie to his clients that he showed up to court. He does not notify his clients to be had court. Once they get a warrant he will tell them to lay low while he sits back and try to collect the money all he want is your money he does not care about your freedom or justice. He has a very bad attitude I do not recommend him to any African-American. He has showed his true colors, and he is very disrespectful. He does not know how to communicate with his clients, his assistant better job because he has a horrible person to work for I have recorded conversations and I have every text message that we have sent to each other and it will be posted tomorrow. In my opinion this law firm is all commercial and no results. The communication is decent at first but when they send a letter saying they are dropping your case and they don't include a single reason why I have to feel the communication is mediocre at best. Lorenz sees no merit in continuing the case even when my insurance company is arguing with the other party to make them pay for the replacement cost of my vehicle. I cannot comment on their knowledge level except to say it seems weak to me based on their lack of pursuing justice for a client. Work quality when starting a case seems good but to me it seems to wither quickly. They are polite and professional when communicating. I don't see the value in using them just because of the commercials on TV. These are my opinions based on my interaction with this lawyer/firm.

Travis took my case for a DWI in Febuary 2010 for a fee of $2000. After that He never returned my calls. Months went by with no communication. In June I received a notice from Travis county that I had failed to appear in court. My attorney did not appear, nor was I ever notified. A new date was set. Travis still would not respond to my frequent request to speak to him. In July I received a second notice of failure to appear and forfiture of my bond. I had to pay an additional fine of $300 for this and took care of it myself with the Travis county courts. The court appointed another lawyer and settled my case within two weeks. I am out $2300.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
