We meet with Jennifer for the first time back in 2015! My husband and I were very concerned about the well being of our grandson. He had already survived a head injury when he was only 11 weeks old. My husband an I prayed that God would save him and heal him. He was flown to cook's children's hospital on two separate occasions. First one when he was first admitted to our local hospital and then detected that he was a possible shaken baby and a second time a few days after he was released from cook's children's hospital for seizure disorder. We spent the next six months taking him back and fourth to cooks for follow up appointments. We soon realized that we needed to be a voice for an innocent child, which also happened to be our grandson. We hired a local attorney And was unsuccessful at getting custody of him. We didn't give up then and kept compiling any evidence we felt was crucial to his well being and safety. Then the time came that we felt we needed to consult with an attorney. It was then that we consulted with Jennifer Boughton and we knew the moment we met her that she was the perfect one for our difficult case. We knew we had a lot of work ahead of us and possibly losing our relationship we had with our grandson who is now 7 years old. But with her honesty, integrity and up most professionalism, we never gave up! When we doubted ourselves and wondered if this was even the right thing to do, she was right there lifting us up. She is not about the all mighty dollar, but what's in the best interest of a child. She has children of her own and when she hears of a child that has been hurt, you can see the compassion she has and she will work diligently to make sure that she has reviewed everything from head to toe and that her case is ready to present. You will not be disappointed in the knowledge and compassion she has for her job and the law. Her job is you and she has stayed up late nights and weekends preparing a case for us. We now have custody of our grandson and life couldn't be better thanks to Jennifer.

I can't begin to say enough about the compassion and attention to detail I received for Mr Jenkins. Without him as my lawyer I'm not sure how this would have ended up. I now consider Mr Jenkins my friend and cannot say enough about him. Dallas law is well and good with people like him at the helm.

I was arrested for a DWI in Dallas and refused the "tests" and the other b.s. offered by DPD. Had a nice stay in Lew Sterrett overnight and called him the next day based on a friend's recommendation. They had me on video calling the cop a liar (he is) and not being very pleasant. Jake set my case for trial and about 18 months later got my case dismissed. I'm very happy with the outcome of my case. He also filed an expunction for me because that charge remains in the system regardless of outcome. Thanks Jake! You're the best!

Ms. Moore is extremely knowledgeable at what she does. I had never been in any legal trouble before and she kept me very informed through the whole process and put me at ease. I put all my trust in her with my case and was not let down at all. She is a tough litigator and will get the job done. I will defiantly use her in the future for any of my legal needs.

Is this the sane attorney who works form brown county Texas? Is not I will apologize and take down. I was involved in an accident 1/7/22 in brown county Texas on us 183 in brown county Texas. I’m Eric the state trooper gave me a white piece of paper/accident exchange. He recorded the other driver pulling out I. Front of me , no title, insurance on 75mph road and threatened me. He admitted it happened 10 ft in front of me. They tried to prosecute me saying I was given a ticket I never was and had it dismissed after having a meeting that was supposed to he court date with Terri Moore and another women in the meeting they did was recorded. There are other disturbing emails. I’m confused is this the county attorney if it is are you ethical? Are you not supposed to report evidence of crimes/misconduct at the risk of being disbarred? Did your office not know there were laws broken against me and did nothing? Not only that but one of women told me she heard the recording. In it the other driver admits to hearing Ramos and Eric said he knew a Texas ranger buying a gun the week before 1/7/22. Again I never talked to her and will apologize if this is not the county attorney. Again I never hired her but I had a scheduled court appearance and waited 6 hours for a zoom meeting I have not been able to request the meeting no information request on the Brown County website.

Emily Miller is a Lifesaver – Smart, Feisty, and Full of Heart! Working with Emily Miller was a privilege. Not only is she incredibly smart and professional, but she’s also got a feisty side that I absolutely loved! She didn’t just handle my case – she outsmarted the other attorneys at every turn and made it look effortless. Watching her work was seriously impressive. What really stood out, though, was her heart. Emily was there for me through some of the hardest times in my life. She wasn’t just focused on the legal stuff (which she was brilliant at) – she made sure I was okay through the emotional rollercoaster, too. She was always there to explain things in a way that made sense, kept me updated, and gave me peace of mind when I needed it most. If you’re looking for a lawyer who’s sharp, fearless, and will fight for you with everything she’s got, Emily is your person. She’s not just an incredible attorney, she’s a real lifesaver. I’m beyond grateful to her and would recommend her in a heartbeat!

Mr. Willingham was completely unhelpful and, frankly, seemed uninterested in my case. He also gave me inaccurate information regarding my case and took forever to get back to me. Each follow up consultation was like re-inventing the wheel. I don't know if he kept bad records or just needed an excuse to bill for more time. Ultimately I had to pay for a consultation with another attorney just to help me get through the mess he put me in. I don't get the impression that he's malicious but he's clearly inexperienced, disorganized and a little in over his head.

A few years ago in Brown County, Mr. Adams represented my husband, a defendant in a case based solely upon the testimony of a "snitch" named Glen Moore, whose every spoken word was a lie and had zero integrity or credability... so it should have been a fairly easy case for an experienced attorney to handle. When it came time for the defense to present its case, Mr. Adams whispered to my husband, "Ok here's where you plead your case to the judge" !! Obviously, he didn't want to have to do his job, and my husband was of course, dumfounded. He asked Mr. Adams if wasn't it his job to present a defense for his client?! Well, needless to say it didn't turn out too well, when it should have been reduced or really dismissed. Mr. Adams was even friends with the Judge! And it turns out, that he became the county D.A. soon after. Go figure. Don't get in trouble in Texas, but if you do good luck. And I would recommend hiring an Attorney from outside Brown County.

I hired Mr Adams to represent my son. I was impressed during the first meeting. He talks a good game. However after paying for his services neither I , nor my son could get a call back. My son and Mr Adams went into court totally unprepared...and it showed with Adams losing the case. I do NOT recommend you waste your money on this lawyer.

She was very effective in the court room. However while incarcerated she never visited, never asked my side of the argument, and rarely returned phone calls. I was happy with the results but very dissatisfied with the communication received during the process. I feel that there were better options. A gentleman by the name of Joshua that works for her was our only point of contact and he was very rude and provided nothing to help ease any case concerns I had.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
