Met with Mr. Earle Cohen last week regarding a few legal issues I had. Mr. Cohen was extremely helpful and also gave me the best advice on how to proceed further with my legal matters. He was a tremendous help and would definitely recommend him for any future legal matters I have and also refer all my friends and family to him.

This man was hired by my ill mother to make changes in our family trust. Not only was the work he did incorrect, invalid and illegal but he assured my sick mother and myself that this was all valid and legal. Documents were signed, notarized and made to be a part of the original trust document. Fast forward, mother passes away, and we find out that nothing that this quack did was legal, or valid. Our family was not only devastated but we were threatened with legal action. So, stupidly, we allow this man to continue handling the finalizing of the estate etc. Phone calls would go un-returned. We'd get an occasional request to come in to the office fo signatures, etc. The estate had to go thru probate.....WHY? Finally we come to a conclusion, sad, confused, nothing had gone the way this man had explained PRIOR to mom's death. WHY? I had promised myself that once this was over and done I was going to file a complaint with the bar association, but the question I am asked is WHAT ARE YOUR DAMAGES? I can't put a dollar amount on the level of anguish that our family went thru starting with the assurances this REPUTABLE (?) HONEST (?) attorney made to my sick mother prior to her death.

I worked for Robert for almost 2 years late 1980's and in review found him to be honorable, ethical, and fair. A devoted husband and caring father, and diligent advocate. All qualities of a man with good characteristics- he was factual and diligent in his clients' cases, and his office was one of the most open and well planned workspaces I ever had the pleasure of working in. You would be in good hands for your legal needs. His demeanor was respectful, kind and pleasant.

Steve Shapiro is a terrible attorney. He is over 70 years old he doesn’t know the law he cost me about $450,000 and he’s terrified of the opposing counsel. He doesn’t listen, he doesn’t care, he should’ve retired a long time ago. Worst mistake of my life hiring him

Stephen is worth every penny, and then some. He told me the truth when I needed to hear it and never let me indulge and create extra problems for myself. He kept it simple and straightforward, which benefited us the most in the long run. Overall he was kind and careful with my family. A wonderful attorney.

This lawyer is a monster. He will take down any detective, officer of the law, witness...anything I think all people should just pay to meet him once and just ask him, how should I act if I'm being accused of anything. He's been around and knows a lot. He is really experienced so he knows when to save his energy for the fight, and when he smells blood in the courtroom, watch the magic happen. Definitely worth the money (not cheap). He is more realistic then other lawyers in the aspect that he wont promise you the world, but he gets results and makes good deals (thats if you want to admit you did it) If you don't want to admit you did it, then he would be a great trial lawyer to have on your side. Just Google his name and you'll see all the cases he's been involved in. Very interesting man, drives a Lamborghini on the weekends and a mini to the courtroom. lol just thought I should throw that out there Alex. Only problem is that sometimes on court dates where you just stand there and get a extension, he doesn't show up and sends his assistants, which is still cool because all they do is get an extension, but its nice see your lawyer at court too. Def. you will feel protected in the court room when you know hes going to protect your rights.

Wendi amended my parents' trust in 2004. My mother just spent countless hours and about $5000 in legal fees to correct her rookie error. The reason this was so costly is because my Dad is deceased and so the amendment request had to go before a judge. Make sure you review your trust in detail and do not just blindly trust that everything is accurate.

Richard Rogen has been my immigration Lawyer for over 6 years...through two marriages....1 divorce...a crazy x wife...etc etc Richard is knowledgeable and professional, I forget the number of times i called him for advice over the years. He always called my back with exact & truthful council and helped calm my fears of the process. His costs were a flat fee from start to finish, one price, even with all the phone calls he gladly accepted from me again & again. The office staff are accurate & precise. I received my Green Card. Richard Rogen is a 5 star Immigration Lawyer & highly recommended.

In the beginning, he sounded confident and responded to my calls. But a few months later, he was unresponsive and did hardly anything substantial for two years. He also went back on what he said he would do in the middle of the case and did not bother to give me a prior notification about his change of plan. I found this a very unreliable conduct. I would have saved a lot of time and money if I had known that his service would be unprofessional.

Stay far away from this guy, he is way over priced, breaks the rules of Professional Conduct. On many occasions he charged me $90.00 to answer some questions by e-mail with one liner answers saying basically " I m working on it" completely avoiding my questions. He is very arrogant, and even had the audacity, after I had informed him of something I had done, to say "Nope never happened". Unbelievable! I am sick about the amount of money he has been able to get from me to my detriment. If I could change things he would not have gotten 1 dime of my money.

Marshal is a nice guy but a terrible attorney. While representing me in a trust dispute he neglected to include stipulations for both the estate increasing or decreasing in value. As a result I was protected only for an estate that remained the same or increased in value. Unfortunately it decreased. My adversary was protected in either scenerio by a more experienced attorney. In addition, Marshal recommended using a conservator, without explaining the "true cost." I would have been better off accepting my adversary's initial offer and never hiring Marshal! This was a VERY expensive lesson. Don't make my mistake!!

He took my case and handed me off to Julie Berkus who could not understand a simple situation. She continually miscomprehended even the most simple situations. They could not prevent another lawyer from billing illegally to my trust for proven non-trust issues, even with ample and verifiable documented proof. Waste of time and money. The other lawyer just laughed at him and continued. I had to gond a decent lawyer to put that lawyer where he needs to be. Some say they were colluding with the other attorney to bill both parties maximum amount because no lawyer could be that dumb.

Her actions and decision disrupted future of mine. She hates allowing races other than filipino to thrive in US. She has hateful agendas against minority. She is biased and prejudiced against minority. This one was hired for petition specific candidate. She blatantly neglected the achievement of the candidate in order to be fair to her Filipino community to avoid feelings of being inferior and belittling of their accomplishment. She believes in indentured servitude as perpetual curse to outsiders. She believes outsider are not allowed to thrive and achieve their true potential. How much money did Filipino community paid you as bribe to belittle an Outsider's accomplishment?

Today, I made the long drive over the hill to Encino, to see a SSD Attorney, who came recommended by a friend who has received his SSD. The waiting room was freezing cold & empty. After filling out the paper work, I was called in by a young woman I thought was the Receptionist, or Assistant. To my surprise she then sat down and I realized she was the Attorney. She was as cold as the waiting room, never smiled, or asked me the traditional how are you, etc. The conversation was very brief. She refused to look at my paper work from the Attorney who initially did my SSDI claim. I was in and out in about 3 minutes! My friend who drove me couldn't believe it!

Unfortunately, there are times when it is better to represent yourself (almost never), and if you must chose between self representation or Mr. Goodfriend I would recommend the former. As objectively, and fairly, as I am able these are the general concerns I had in my experience with Mr. Goodfriend's councel: 1) Non- responsive to calls 2) Did not pursue desired result 3) Lacked strategy 4) Very timid- easily intimidated by opposing attorney 5) Very aloof 6) I had to provide direction for edits in his correspondence with opposing council because his own lacked cohesion and provided many loopholes for ant semi competent lawyer to be able to exploit 7) Timliness was abysmal- took weeks to draft requests (1 pager) Ultimately, I found new council who in a matter of weeks resolved the issues. There are times when one's job title, or institution from which one graduates doe not reflect the quality of service one would come to expect. This, certainly, was my experience in this matter.

remembers nothing, knows nothing, you ask a question, you look at the answer on the Internet with the client. After receiving the full amount of money, lawyer Marina Cab does not communicate with you, only through the secretary all questions. There are a lot of mistakes in the case, I corrected everything myself, negligence, errors in the dates in the names, until you pay, she guarantees the win of the case, but by paying her money the lawyer is not involved in the case.

This attorney put his own interests above mine, his client! In my civil cases vs. COLA, Mr. Smith literally did not file the necessary motion that would have given me a good chance at victory. Mr. Smith missed the filing deadline, so the judge ruled he could not add the key defendant. I believe that I lost my case on summary judgment because I wasn't able to introduce important evidence tied to that defendant. I also believe Mr. Smith intentionally missed the deadline because he didn't want to harm his relationship with the county who he relies on for many of his clients. Mr. Smith also collected five thousand dollars from me that he is not due and refuses to refund it! That was just the most egregious billing dispute there were others. I received a settlement offer in a related civil case and he refused to respond to my inquires about the proposed settlement. I believe he wanted to let the deadline to respond pass because he wanted to continue the case so he could keep billing me. My experience with this attorney turned out to be worse than the situation I hired him to represent me for. Don't walk, but RUN away from this guy who is embodiment of all the negative stereotypes you've heard about lawyers!

I have been consulting Kevin Park since November 2012. He informed me that I had a medical malpractice case and that he would take it on once I obtain an expert report. (I am based in the UK). I spent a fortune on expert opinion; e-mailed him the report and Kevin Park informed me that next step is to sign a written retainer agreement. Then I had to chase him up and he later informed he would not take on the case; 2 months before my limitation period expires. How professional and responsible of him! I guess he never had any intention to take it on; for him it was just a bit of an e-mail chat

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
