I came to Ms. May very upset about a speeding ticket I had received. She was honest and informative about what her firm could do to help. Any questions or concerns I had throughout this process were answered in a timely manner. She never made me feel like I was a bother or that was I was asking silly questions. The outcome of my court ruling was fair and what she had initially said the outcome would possibly be. I was in a difficult situation and Ms. May made it a seamless process. I would recommend her services to anyone wanting fair and honest legal representation.

I hired Mr. Nichols to represent me in a traffic case. Other than taking my money, that's the only thing he did for me in my case. As my case was prosecuted he didn't say one word in my defense. I would never recommend him.

However I was extremely nervous,I recently moved to North Carolina and had just switched to a different insurance company. Nichols handled my case for me,in a very professional and timely manner,my case was dismissed with no court cost,I am so grateful, and would recommend him to anyone, and certainly would use his services again if needed

If you have a serious matter to be heard in Stokes County court, you have two real choices for effective counsel. One is expensive and crooked, and the other is Dustin Nichols. Mr. Nichols is well regarded in Danbury, a reputation that he has crafted based on honesty, integrity, and his hard work ethic. He is a straight shooter with his clients too. He wants your life to return to normal, and he works hard to make that happen. Mr. Nichols has represented my family and me in extensive criminal and civil matters. I hope I never have need of his professional services again, but if I ever have to go back to court in Danbury, I'm calling this guy. Thank you Dustin (and Beth!) for finally bringing my family some justice, may God bless you and yours. :)

I had hired Jennifer as my attorney. She checked to see if there would be a conflict of interest to which she replied that there wasn't. Yesterday, she informed me by email and not telephone, that she could not represent me because a conflict of interest that was found and she could not relate to me what it was. I expected to be refunded the full amount of the retainer that I had paid to her. This was her fault and not mine. She should have been well aware if there was a conflict of interest. However, only a portion was returned to me. The full amount would have been enough to pay my new attorney. This is costing me a lot of money. I could never do this to someone else. I know that she put work into this and I was willing to pay a small amount for her services but that was not to be. Like I said, it is not my fault that she just found out there was a conflict of interest. That is on her and she should absorb the cost.

Ms. O'Neal was the attorney handling the sale of my parents house. She told my realtor that I didn't need to be present at the loan closing & that she put the check in the mail that afternoon. Four days later I still had not received my check so my realtor called again & was told they had put the check in the mail that day. I waited 2 more days and no check. My realtor called again & the check had not been mailed. Now 6 days after the loan closing and Elizabeth was paid at the loan closing, I went to her office to pick up my check & found out the amount was different than what she sent me & my realtor. The check was $400 less than listed on the loan closing disclosure and she didn't have the professional courtesy to tell me before I showed up in her office to pick up my check. Her explanation was condescending and feeble. What is acceptable about having to wait for my money & being lied to about it being mailed multiple times when it was sitting in her office the entire time plus the amount was different from the closing disclosure. Very unprofessional!

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.

Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.

Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
