Not a good lawyer if you don’t want to get a second job or second mortgage just to pay for your divorce. FYI - never, ever, EVER sign a non refundable retainer with an attorney. The only lawyers who do this are the shady crooks.

This is my opinion but I feel compelled to share my experience with this firm as a cautionary tale to others. My time with them was marked by disappointment and frustration, leaving me deeply dissatisfied. From the beginning, there was a glaring lack of communication and transparency regarding the progress of my case. This made me feel misled and undervalued, especially given the significant investment I had made. Despite my efforts to seek guidance from both the paralegal and the attorney, I received inadequate responses and minimal support. I often found myself reaching out to customer service, who, while helpful, couldn't provide the clarity I needed. Moreover, I was dismayed to discover that basic inquiries about my case's status resulted in additional charges, even when I hadn't heard from the attorney. I found myself billed for work without any updates, and strategy sessions were conducted without my involvement or explanation of their purpose. The contract I signed gave them alarming freedom to withdraw money from my account without proper explanation, with invoices offering little clarity on the charges incurred. The fees for their services seemed disproportionate to the work being done, indicating a prioritization of profit over client satisfaction. This led to unnecessary stress and dissatisfaction throughout my experience. Overall, I strongly advise others to approach this firm with caution, as my encounter left much to be desired in terms of professionalism and transparency. Additionally, I was forced to seek assistance from another firm, incurring further expenses. Despite this, I received only a small portion of the funds held in escrow back to me.

My Opinion - The Hobson's lacked professional etiquette. I hired this practice for a simple custody case. Upon meeting with the office, I was assigned a great attorney - Ms. Goff - who after months of paperwork, meetings, and hearings - disappeared. Upon her "leaving" my case was shuffled through multiple attorneys in the office that did not have any knowledge of the case. Each time someone new touched it, I was charged more. When I started asking questions and asked to speak directly to a Hobson about my concerns; they dropped my case stating that I did not trust them. Thousands of dollars simply thrown down the drain. After finding a new attorney, the case was easily settled in a few short months. It seems that my time spent in the hands of Hobson and Hobson was all about playing a game with the opposing attorney and how much money could be made. They took advantage of the situation for financial gain. - Again; in my opinion.

Mr. Spetalnick was extremely combative, unsupportive and literally called me “very stubborn” during our brief consultation. Not only did I feel as if I was being legally mansplained regarding my case but he was actively interrupting and belittling me as I candidly and vulnerably explained my situation. I felt as if he has defended many men in family law cases and was projecting a perspective against mothers in legal cases. He will not be retaining my services, and my hope is with this review he analyzes the privilege and patriarchy that propagate his behavior and will eventually catch up with him.

when my x stopped paying child support, I knew I needed help so I hired Jon Spetalnick. Mr. Spetalnick provided an initial consultation at no charge and thoroughly explained the process and the next steps. Rather than charge me by the hour, he provided a flat fee for his work up until the court date and a 2nd fee if we went to court. My x on the other hand, hired an attorney with a large practice who charged him an hourly fee and billed him for every little thing. Ultimately, we did not end up in court because of Mr. Spetalnick's hard work and expertise. It was clear that Mr. Spetalnick spent a great deal of time on my case and thought through the best way to document and present the facts to my x's attorney and to a judge if we ended up in court. We settled out of court and everything was in my favor. I definitely made the right decision when I hired Mr. Spetalnick and I know the overall cost was much less than it would have been had I hired an attorney who had charged me an hourly rate. Mr Spetalnick can be very direct, blunt and somewhat harsh at times, but don't let that scare you away. He's passionate about his work and works tirelessly for his clients.

Don't waste your time and money going to this lawyer, they are very rude on the phone when you want some answers about your case. Find yourself a good lawer.

We were referred by a friend to attorney Mitchell. Our friend told us that he would give us a true assessment of our case and he did. In fact, by the time it was over we had decided that it was not in our best interest to sue. Imagine, the attorney talked us out of spending our money. We appreciated his candor and honesty.

Had no problem taking the money up front, and afterwards, he told us there's nothing he can do. We paid $2000 for him to send an email. On the court date, he didnt show up and when called, he said he doesn't have anything to do with that case. Extremely disappointed and will definitely pursue further legal action so this won't happen to others.

Run from any dealings with her. She is inefficient, not a factual person, mean spirited and not competent. What a nightmare to consider how many lives she has affected. It’s sad and shocking. She is a poser and one who treats people who can serve her differently. That is scary. Shame on Cobb for allowing her to represent their cases.

This woman claims to care about the well being of children, yet will fight tooth and nail to keep a child away from their parents no matter the cost. She only views situations in black and white. Disgusting lawyer and person. Also, after a court case involving a parent with alcoholism, she proceeded to talk to others in the court room about going to a bar and getting wasted. Hired him as helper to main attorney but never saw anything positive that he contributed as I sat at the defense table. He made several motions that were all overruled by the judge and seemed confused much of the time. Neither I, nor my family, and many in the courtroom could not hear his comments as he addressed the judge. His motions were overruled. At the end of the trial before closing arguments, he said he was broke and asked for more money from my family. That offended me and my family because that was never agreed upon by contract. We felt pressured to give the money because the main attorney said this helper was needed for closing arguments. In my opinion, he did not contribute to the close and to the case in general. The money was wasted. So don't hire him if you want to get things done and have a strong advocate for your case.

This is actually a city of Marietta prosecutor that prejudges your case based on his own personal experiences in life. He had the nerve to compare my case to stop signs in the neighborhood that he lives in which has absolutely nothing to do with my stop sign case. The list goes on and on with this guy. I wont go into depth of every example, but bottom line, stay far far away from this guy. I recommend you have a much more professional attorney especially if you are ticketed by city of Marietta.

She did absolutley nothing to help my case. She just pushed papers. She didn't look out for my best interest or offer ideas of what I was entitled to during my divorce. Thus my kids ended up with little child support and I ended up with no spousal support even though I stayed home with my kids for close to eleven years. We are now hurting desperately for money to live. I personal paid $6,000 for the divorce and ended up paying over $40,000 to go back to school to earn enough of a living to be able to support my children. I am in serious debt now. My ex walked away with everything because Ms. Boga didn't know my rights nor did she fight for my children.

Don’t hire this attorney. He accomplished nothing for me over three years. It seemed his main concern was making the opposing counsel happy. He called me a week before our hearing and told me to dismiss my case because opposing counsel didn’t want to go to Macon. Thankfully I have wittinesses to the conversation. Get any lawyer except this one. Waste of time and money.

Marian is a very poor lawyer who mishandled my divorce in many ways. I provided her $10,000 in retainer and her assistant was the only person I ever spoke to. She was out for months with an illness and her admin never disclosed the fact that she was not working. She mishandled the discovery and financial disclosure, provided no advise on division of assets... I can go on and on. I have made over a dozen requests for billing statements and have never received one.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:

  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
