Annie and Bob Beles (the two lead attorneys of the firm) were both very helpful in my case. I faced very serious criminal charges. Annie was my lead attorney. Without her great legal expertise and spunky street smarts, I would have been falsely convicted and sent to prison, after a terribly contentious and emotional trial. Thank you both, for saving my life! I highly recommend this firm!!!

I was injured at work and hired Ratto law Firm to represent me with my Workman’s compensation claim. This was a very long 12 year life changing experience for me and my family. I couldn’t have gotten through this without the help and knowledge of Yuvanna Davis. Yuvanna is a very empathetic , knowledgeable attorney, she actually listens to you. Being involved in a workman’s compensation case is very depressing among so many other things. Halving someone by your side who actually cares about you, your health and your future means a lot. The workman’s comp system is not looking out for you. Make sure you give Ratto law firm a call, so they can help you move on and you can start living a life worth living.

I just want to say James Latimer and the whole Ladimir law. Firm was great awesome from start to finish except for Sergio Monteon, who was very rude condescending and answered questions in tone not very customer service oriented, but I’d have to say Mr. Latimer and the rest of the team is awesome not only did he achieve in winning my case with Workmen’s Comp., but also went above and beyond with applying me for subsequent injuries, benefits trust fund, and also won my case at 100% disabled. God bless you James God bless your entire team.

I have been a client for a few years since the onset of my wc injury. Throughout my entire time being a client I have experienced good customer service from both staff and attorneys. However, their Office Manager Monroe, is very rude and unprofessional. I find this to be so disappointing that he interacts with clients is this tone. It is also unfortunate because he is a representative of the firm.

We engaged Ms. Traum to represent us in a civil suit against our HOA. We had been experiencing inequitable enforcement of the governing documents and discrimination. Ms. Traum advised us to start by having her place a pone call to the HOA attorney suggesting ADR, prior to filing papers. We discussed our budget and what we were looking for in a law firm. She gave us her hourly rate and the amount she would require to make a call and file papers. We were to be refunded the difference should the call be successful and from the start it was to be a limited scope agreement. We notified her to go ahead with the call in response to her detailed (overly detailed and often redundant) email. A few days later she informed us she would not make a call, wanted twice the amount we had paid her to put her name on our filings and that we had to be in pro per. Exactly what we did not want to be. It was too late for us to engage anyone else as it was at the 11th hour she made this complete switch and in contradiction to our retainer agreement both written and oral. She painted us into a corner, deprived us of a very important first step which we had relied on her and her word to perform. We now had to file, and it was two hours before the deadline to do so that she finally emailed us the documents. They were incomplete and inaccurate, and there was nothing we could do. No time to revise, no time to amend. She had taken our funds, paid for specific services she did not perform. Our case was low priority, and our opinion, taken for easy money. To add insult to injury, she then attempted to justify this highly unacceptable conduct through an invoice in which she claimed she gave us a deal. Highly insulting and extremely false. We deeply regret our association with her.

Sheryl Traum handle a very big commercial real estate case for me. She is very knowledgeable in real estate disclosures/contracts, as well as building construction. Always kept me informed and gave me excellent advice on how to move forward with my case. When I would call her she was always available or would call me back within 1 hour. Sheryl is very calm and professional and knows her law and court cases. Sheryl Traum also represented me on a small condominium case. We won both cases. I would highly, highly recommend her as your next attorney. If you would like to talk to me in person, Sheryl Traum has my phone number, be glad to talk to you via phone or in person.

She was thorough in her research and understanding of the challenges I faced, and was able to expedite what could have been a very lengthy legal battle in a timely and efficient manner. We settled our case within a few short months with a positive outcome.

Peter Smith and his firm, Dhillon Smith, are corporate counsel for the company I serve as CEO.Peter represented the company in numerous actions, including our counter-suits, involving a former employee. The nature of the actions involved fraud, concealment and failure to disclose material facts to prospective investors, breach of fiduciary duties, self-dealing, etc. The former employee's attorney took on his case on contingency fees, and attempted to shakedown and bully the company and its executives at depositions and in court. Peter's handling of the actions could not have been more effective and successful. He was calm, competent, low-key and very effective where it matters. While the other attorney was into theatrics and intimidation/bullying. Peter's style was focused, nuanced, and demonstrative of sound legal judgment and high quality professionalism. Peter created a simple, effective legal framework for the company to present his case for the company, presented it to the judge in a trial lasting several days. The result speaks for itself: the judge overwhelmingly ruled in favor of Peter and the company. To make it more satisfying, the judge on separate occasions admonished the other attorney for conduct. In contrast, the judge was very satisfied with Peters conduct and professionalism. At all times in this multi-year, multi-action process Peter kept the Board and CEO fully informed of what he is doing. He discussed his legal strategy, asked for feedback, incorporated those elements that we offered he found of value, explained why some of my other points didn’t matter, etc. In other words, his working style enabled the company and its executives to feel part of a team in working with the outside counsel in a very important matter. Peter, considering the company's interests, had also filed court papers to insure the other party would be held liable for the attorney's fees in the frivolous actions they imposed on the company. The company is waiting for the judge to complete their ruling and expects to recover its costs (plus damages). I've worked with some of the best attorneys in corporate law/litigation in the bay area. I'd rate Peter Smith and Harmeet Dhillon among the top. Their firm is small, the service is personalized, your case would be handled by the name partners, their cost structure is far lower than a big law firm so you get excellent value for your money. If you are a CEO/head of a small or medium business I'd suggest you consider Peter Smith as corporate counsel. If you are an executive or founder of a company and need a sound, competent, low-key attorney to protect your interests, I'd suggest you consider Peter Smith. Lastly, if you are faced with someone attempting to intimidate/bully you with legal threats you'd do well to consider Peter Smith to represent you.

Peter (as he prefers to be called) is a great trail attorney. He is a partner of his small but extremely effective firm Dhillon and Smith LLP. He along with his partner Harmeet Dhillon have, I think, put together a great team to help people like me to navigate complicated legal trials and processes emerging from some knotty business partnership disputes. Peter has a great temperament to deal with the highs and lows of the emotions that I went through with my business issues and calmly helped me to make decisions by explaining the legal and trail nuances leading to successful solutions each step of the way. In conversations with Peter I felt the dept of his experience and that was very reassuring to me. I am not an attorney or an expert in the Law by far and this is just from my experience as a layman client. His firm, Dhillon & Smith LLP, have rates that are slightly on the higher side but they are very efficient with their hours. They are client friendly and work through any issues that may come up. Thanks Peter and Harmeet ... and team. I highly recommend them.

We hired Harold Smith to represent the company as general counsel. As founder, CEO,and largest shareholder I had a ring-side seat in observing Harold's performance as counsel for about four-five years. Harold is expensive and ok value in select areas: real estate transactions and contracts and litigation, dealing with the city and state departments involving commercial and residential real estate. He was not as effective in other areas, specifically litigation involving business or commercial entities, employee-employer risk management, negotiating and settling with attorneys representing irate customers or business partners or employees, smoothing through upset shareholders, etc. Harold's inexperience, and his refusal to acknowledge it, complicated matters very much and proved in time to be expensive for my company. The company concluded we needed someone that was more experienced in those areas Harold was not strong, we needed less of real-estate focused legal help where he is ok. So we switched to another firm. Harold's handling of our decision to switch legal representation made things very difficult and he could have been more professional.

Mr Castillo represented me on a criminal case in which I was falsely accused in 2012. He took over the case from a previous lawyer who was less aggressive and not actively pursing my defense. Mr Castillo is a confident, aggressive and very persistent lawyer. He kept my family and I up to date on the case and also returned our calls on time. Mr Castillo persuaded me not to take any deal and wanted take the case to trial because he was confident that he would win. With the Lord's guidance and Ernie's aggressiveness my case was dismissed. I would highly recommend Mr Castillo to anyone.

Mr. Castillo has been "representing" us for the last year, and at first, seemed like he'd be up to the challenge to take on a case that was messed up completely by a previous lawyer. But, it turns out, he's just like the rest of the attorneys; simply trying to take your money. Why would someone take on a case knowing from the start that he wouldn't be able to do anything about it? Just to tell us at the end to take the "deal". We did not need to pay large sums of money to come to a conclusion of having to take the "deal". Please, beware when dealing with him. In addition to all of this, he RARELY ever returns any calls, texts, emails...ever! You call him, and he texts back after a period of time and says he will call later that day, only to remain waiting for the call 2 weeks later. Very poor communication. We thought we could trust him, but like the first attorney, we were wrong. Did a very poor job at informing us of things.

Mr. Haley has seen me through a personal injury case that took us close to three years to resolve. He was always responsive, gave me his honest opinion, and I always felt that he had my best interest at heart. He prepared me for all meetings with opposing counsel and supported me through all stages of the process. Last but not least, he went to the bat for me with insurance representatives. Not sure about the secretary; however, Sandra Banks handled my divorce - contentious and with a high-level public official - and prevailed against the good-ole-boys-club mentality of him and his "male" attorney. Not only did I get more than I ever imagined, she was a rock of emotionally support during the most horrendous time of my life (my ex put me in the ER with his violence). The Lawyer I went with retired so Warren took over her cases. I had major surgery in 1.25.2015 a plate and 4 pins on my L4-L5 no a success. Had to hire a lawyer due to my work not providing me a stand up work station, not by choice. Warren is a well mannered nice guy but my case is still dragging. The red tape getting reports, straight answers from Drs, Physical Therapist etc... is really time and emotionally draining. That said I feel he needs to light fires up into Drs and others to get my case going. All said and done more communication would give him five stars.

If I ever need an attorney with the type of expert advice that I was given, I would hire Mr. Mishook without hesitation. Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
