Contacted Attorney Fitzgerald to take care of a short suspense need for a trust, lady bird deed, and miscellaneous legal advice on issues of elder law with a Mother unexpectedly facing a life change and entry into a nursing home with challenges of end of life along with the discovery of little previous planning. Chris shifted, accepted the task and responded with excellent help. A calm, sage, skilled and personable Attorney that is also complimented by an outstanding team of professionals in the office. Forty plus years of Federal service behind me around the globe - I’ve had General Counsel in my staff and have been supported by some great Attorneys. Attorney Fitzgerald’s performance has clearly been superior to that I previously thought was great - he has reset the bar. Chris’s and his team’s work is superb and they deliver - words matter but deeds done and done well matter more. Chris’s legal skill set is without peer and he and his select team, delivers. You can trust these good people to do the right things and to do the right things, right.

Chris has represented us many times. In each instance, we were kept in the loop and felt like our interests and rights were his main focus. In a situation with a conflict with the owner of an adjacent piece of property, Chris remained in close contact with me and counsel for the property owner, advocating for me at every turn.

I was told by everyone going into my case that my chances of success were going to be slim, but I hired Wes Tidwell to represent me anyway. He worked hard to get me my day in court and after the judge heard the facts I was successful in getting custody of my kids. I know this is because Wes Tidwell took the time to get familiar with the facts of my case and study the law BEFORE we went to court. The other attorney seemed completely lost. My fee was resonable and I would hire him again if necessary.

I hired Wes to defend me in my divorce case. Wes Tidwell is a horrible attorney. He would not return my phone calls and he would not keep me informed on what was going on in my case. He wouldn't even talk to me before we were to appear in court. While in the court room, he only defended me against the accusations of my spouses lawyer. Never once did he bring up issues that should have been addressed against my spouse. Basically he did pretty much nothing except take my money and I definitely came out with the short end of the stick in my divorce. I don't know if he and my spouses attorney and the judge had an arrangement or if he just didn't want to bother with me, but NEVER again will I hire Wes or recommend him to anybody!

I ended up doing 15 months in jail for a crime that wasn't a crime. Literally. I was charged with credit card abuse for using someone's card bc she only filed charges on one transaction , bc she was mad at me for a fight we'd gotten into. I asked and asked and reiterated several times to please pull the atmosphere records bc they will show that it's been me whom she sent to the atm every month for about 4 months to get her money for her at her request. She lived w me at my house. That's why she only mentioned one transaction when she filed her charge bc had they done an investigation, a very simple one , it would have been clear that she had to know and have given me her card and her pin. But this guy wasn't trying to hear it. Got me a probation that i wasn't eligible for, refused to do anything to help me show that I did in fact have her permission to use her card. He's been my brother and nephews attorney too. Rushed them to sign and waiver rights in hurried attemp to close the case. I do not recommend this guy.

Mr. Rosemergy assisted me with a case as it related to the context of an employment law matter in Dallas. He was able to obtain a settlement in a civil matter. There were criminal law overtones so his expertise was appreciated greatly. He is an excellent trial attorney and his reputation is well deserved and i have seen him in action.

Very hard to contact after he took our money. Had to call and remind him of court dates. Only time we saw him was inside the court room where he spent his time joking with the DA. Never have we felt so used and defenseless. Please don't use this jerk.

Strung out my case for a year and a half. Put off trial because he would only prepare a few days ahead and wouldn't be ready. I ended up walking away from it all, dropping a solid case. Very frustrating, arrogant, and pretentious individual.

No response when called to ask questions. Felt rushed to complete my sentences. Was constantly cut off. Not understanding to my individual situation. Voiced his own views, values and opionions to presuade the outcome of the case. Court room negotiations as oppose to having prior meetings to establish settlements. No time was spent to fully understand the facts in the case and didn't want to know.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
