I was referred to Corey Allard for a divorce and child custody case by an old friend. Needless to say I should have done my homework and read up on this guy a little better. After a few Google searches and reading his reviews it was clear the guy was not big in the integrity department. I lost everything!! I actually found out he took a side payment to covertly screw me and was basically working for my husband.

This guy double charged me as I found out later through another attorney. He collected a fee from the state that assigns attorney's to indigent clients. He also then charged my wife $1,200 on top of what he collected and despite all this he didn't even wrap up all my debts in my bankruptcy filing. I still have creditors hounding me. When I call him he has his secretary hang up the phone and ignores my calls. Also doesn't respond to emails. This guy is a piece of work. You have been warned stay away!!

The “Proper Venue” is essential for any legal proceeding. In my case, Mr. Mirza was not cognizant what court to argue my case. The result cost me thousands of dollars.

Greedy man with no compassion for disabled people. He expected to get more money for doing absolutely nothing for me. It's unbelievable, that someone could punish his client by charging more money for a case that is postponed because of a serious health problem that prevented me from moving forward. I was told that he would tell me when my retainer was used up and let me know when and why i would need to pay any additional money. Steve doesn't have any paralegals to help him and claimed that he doesn't keep track of actual hours. Instead of telling me that my retainer is spent or close to being spent, I get a bill for an extra thousand dollars and had a random odd number of dollars and cents with no explanation where my money was used . I feel like i was conned and ripped off by Stephen who never even responded to my last call and never returned my personal important documents so I could have a different lawyer take the case. All around horrible experience.

Referred to him for a divorce proceeding. He required a 5k retainer, yet he couldn’t even get the name of my ex’s paramour right in interrogatories he drafted despite me providing it to him. Ultimately, I had to get another lawyer. The only reason my review contains one star is that the site requires me to pick at least one to post a review, otherwise, I wouldn’t give him any.

Kept my information for a long time. Never called me to discuss my case. I just got a letter in the mail saying he was not representing me. Also, made no mention on how to get the material I left him. He spend the time to send the letter, but essentially kept my records till I tracked him down.

My case got send to these lawyers from my old lawyer and I never even knew about it until I called. Doesn’t communicate and you have to call them a bunch to get any info. Took years to settle my case and when they did they got more in fees than I did. Total waste of time do not hire them!

Hired him for an injury, after 6 years of nothing I wrote a letter questioning why I hadn't heard anything and he set up and appointment and let me go as a client. I cried for 2 days. My husband wanted to get another lawyer but I could not go thru it all again. So even though a professional physical therapist injured me and put me in the hospital for 40 days it went without resolution and the physical therapist is still practicing.

Maria Rice was assigned to my case. Communication was lacking from her and her unprofessional assistant. No prep for the court case. Went in blind only to leave defeated due to unpreparedness from Maria. She spent more time laughing and joking with others then focusing on the court case itself. Provided 0 contact, assistance or guidance after court case. Complete waste of time.

I originally hired Christine Borzilleri (now Stowell) in March of 2013 to help me adopt my son. She told me the process wasn’t complicated and it should take about six months. I was unemployed and didn’t have unlimited resources so the price was very reasonable but I guess it’s true...you get what you pay for. My adoption case became final Nov. 12, 2014. Seems that the only way I could get Christine to respond to my emails was to threaten her with calling the Bar Association or something. I could never just get a timely response. One of the documents I had to provide for the court was my son’s original birth certificate. That had to come from the Philippines and it was not easy to procure. I gave it to Ms. Borzilleri and the court says they personally handed it back to her the day my son’s adoption was final. Now, she can’t find it. I requested all my documents before the final hearing and Ms. Borzelleri said she would bring them all to me. The day of the adoption she did not. When I asked her what happened to my files she replied that she keeps them for many years. Then I found out that I’m actually entitled to have my files. Ms. Borzilleri didn’t respond to my subsequent requests for them (as well as my son’s birth certificate) until I’d informed her that I’d called Mr. Ken Luke at the MA Board of Bar Overseers. As I write this today, Feb. 6, 2015, I still don’t have my files but Ms. Borzilleri says they’re “in the mail”. She still says that she can’t find my son’s birth certificate and that’s pretty much the end of that, she’s done. My option here is to hire another lawyer to sue her to pay for my expenses in procuring yet another birth certificate. I’m so tired of this process but now, if I want my son’s birth certificate I have to go to court again? Agggggh. Buyer beware. If you hire Christine Borzilleri (Stowell) it will take you twice as long to resolve your case and get minimal response (if any) to your inquiries. Plus she may lose your original, important paperwork. I just don't want someone else to have to go through what I experienced with this lawyer.

I brought my case to Mr. Quirk after being rear-ended at a stop sign. Our first meeting he was throwing out huge numbers, saying how he was going to get this and that paid for. Mr. Quirk failed to contact workman's comp as my accident happened while transporting a client (I only found out after that I could've used this). Because he did not contact workman's comp I was forced to go back to work before I was fully healed because I had bills to pay. After our first meeting we met maybe once more in person and spoke once on the phone. After about 2 months of being told he was "working on it" because the insurance company "was giving him the run-around" and "didn't want to pay" he stopped returning my phone calls. I would call the office and leave messages with his receptionist and NEVER received a call back from Mr. Quirk. He was completely unprofessional and in my opinion should not be practicing law. I left a final message stating that I needed to hear back from him or I would find new representation. Needless to say I received no phone call back. Thankfully I found new representation and my case has since been settled. If you are thinking about hiring this attorney take my advice and look elsewhere.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
