So after 4 months of thinking my case involving a infestation of mice & rats(caught 15)was being worked on, I found out that my case was terminated almost immediately after accepting my case because I answered no to one of the criminal background questions that mentioned having any recent criminal activities etc which is true, over 6 years plus is not recent so I guess they don’t trust to represent us because of that I feel it’s discrimination because what does having a criminal record have to do with us needing the help?! It shouldn’t have even taking me reaching out to find this out. Very unprofessional for a law firm & they don’t have your best interest obviously.. like how you can’t sympathize with a family that obviously needs representation & justice from & very inhabitable situation if that’s your job?!

I had a quick session with Julie Hartlé , first of all, she is an amazing person, very understanding, and also very professional and well-informed about the issues we were having. She has an extensive background with different housing departments and also knows disability law very well. She gave me sound advice and we set up a follow-up. I can say that I am very happy with the value they provided me in this session and highly recommend them.

I waited almost two years before realizing the insurance company for the party at fault would not appropriately compensate for my head injury. James quickly took care it. He is professional, responsive, and honest in his appraisal. I now have the means to address the injury and peace of mind. What a relief.

My girlfriend and I were cut off by a taxicab while riding our bicycles in San Francisco. We both were injured and damaged our bikes.. James worked with us and the taxi company to get a great result. He thoughtfully guided us through the whole process and stuck with it to the very end. Thank you James!

I had fallen 16 ft from a deck that broke, I was injured and pain is a part of my life now. That said it was a difficult case in terms of liability issues that the insurance company was claiming. I had another attorney but the case wasn't going well due to some questionable attorney practice on both sides between my guy and the homeowner's insurance company, and they're attorney. Then my attorney past on and his firm was dissolving. James and I ran into eachother with impeccable timing after having met breifly a year prior. He helped me pick up the pieces, my case was a mess. He saved the situation by seeing to it that I was well represented, James was present at every meeting and phoned me whenever necessary to offer guidance. My experience of Mr. Choulos is that he is sincere, professional, and he genuinly cares about helping people up when they're down. I owe my good outcome to having him and his team in my corner. I'm truly grateful.

Worst service of all time. Won't recommend this firm. Most of the reviews look fake. So please do your research before hiring this firm. There fee in comparisons to other firms is quite high. I still hired them with high fee because was attracted to their past review comments but like I mentioned earlier, these review looks fake.

My experience with Arash Yesrebu and his staff is the most positive experience. He gave me absolutely free consultations in the initial meeting and I am grateful for him to listen to my story carefully. Whenever I called his office, his staffs were competent and courteous. Also, They provided me with detailed advice to apply my work authorizations multiple times. I would recommend this firm to anyone who has any immigration questions or problems. If you are looking for a great immigration lawyer - please, look no further! Highly, Highly recommended Arash Yasrebi

This lawyer has asked me to apply on my own, he stopped responding the moment he got his first payment, he refused to do any work until he got the payment in full. He barely skimmed through the documents I asked him to review, I later found out that there were unsigned documents and he didn't even notice them. At the end, it turned out that half of the information he gave was wrong )- according to the embassy (Basically sold me hot air) Also, he missed the deadlines and was unavailable most of the times. The only time he was really available was before I signed an engagement letter. I would never recommend him.

Roger takes a genuine interest in making sure his clients cases are carefully handled. He thinks broadly to make sure all options are considered and he explains each step along the way. He is one of the best immigration attorneys in the San Francisco Bay Area. I highly recommend him and would not consider anyone else until I at least consulted with him first.

Ms. Katera made it very clear to me that my freedom would hinge on my willingness and ability to be honest with self and the BPH. She asked me if I wanted to be free or be right. I wanted to be honest. I had never seen anyone advocate for me the way that she did. She believed in me and my change and represented me in that space throughout the entire hearing. She prepared me for one of the most uncomfortable meetings in my life, and had it not been for her words of encouragement and direct personality. I do not believe I would have been found suitable on my initial hearing date. She does not play, and if you have done what you were called to do, she will work far beyond the calling of her duty to help you regain your freedom!

I was in San Quentin (doing LIFE) when I hired Katera. I wanted a smart experienced Board Attorney. I got that and more. She helped me with good advice and many, many things to do to prepare for my upcoming Board Hearing. Most importantly, She helped me get to the root of why I had lived and acted as I had in the past. She a great attorney and a wonderful person.

We paid for services that were not rendered. In fact she flaked out at the last minute when we needed her the most and had no regard for the consequences we had to face. Get a solid reference before retaining this attorney.

I made the mistake of hiring this lawyer, and I found three weeks after signing the contract that she started to treat me like a flunky employee. She started to get angry at me on a regular basis for (a) too many emails (b) not enough emails (c) asking for status updates (d) asking questions .... She negotiated a settlement about one-fifth of what she originally estimated she would get, and this settlement would have yielded me ~$500 profit after deducting her fees. She required me to make multiple concessions to the opposing party prior to negotiating on my behalf. The retainer contract didn't discuss administrative fees, but she charged me separately for copying, postage, billing. My billing rate for her secretary was $100 per hour, even though she likely paid her secretary ~$25 per hour. She padded her bill in multiple ways, so that after 10 hours of work, she had gotten nothing for me done. Her bill padding fictionalized phone calls and emails that never happened. Run for the hills away from this ill-tempered, unprofessional, inefficient lawyer.

Mary Pat and her partner, Gary Moss, are both very professional and personable. We just completed a case that took three years and they never gave up! I trust their collective judgement and their skills, we were quite happy with our outcome.

I feel like I need to step in and comment post by Anonymous September 25, 2017. By comment content I have a strong feeling I know this case and I'm one of the co-founders of that company. To the point. we hired Alexander to set-up company and bylaws. 1) We were told - yes we do not have to file 83(b) election at the moment of incorporation, yes we can make decisions later, but it is a generally a good idea to file it now, shortly after issuance of shares. 2) Paying to issued shares - same case. Yes, shares must paid for, although it is not imperative we do it right at the moment of incorporation. 3) 1099 - not sure if it refers to the 1099 tax form. If it is - it's obviously accountant task 4) Option pool creation – discussed with Alexander, but it is something discretionary and should be created depending on the funding round as VCs have different requirements. On the other side, Alexander made a lot of customization for our bylaws that we asked him. Bottom line the only mistake was that Alexander didn't back to us and check if we follow-up things. But we asked him about company incorporation, bylaws and filing to Delaware and we got a really good deal for it. To be honest, we didn't ask to check our activities.

I would like to share my experience on working with Alexander Volchgursky (San Francisco) on registering a startup company. Initially, it seemed ok – he prepared the papers for us, with asked several questions and signed. Only later, when we were getting the investment, round we faced the consequences of his poor advice and negligence of not doing/recommending us to do several things: 1) On our question: should we apply for 83b elections for issued shares, he responded: “There is a very tiny or no difference in applying or not applying with our cheap current stock prices.” We asked if we can just skip this step, he replied “Yes”. This advice had a dramatic effect on us when we were getting the investment, threatening us with huge personal tax consequences. Later we figured out that 99% of startups apply of 83b, It's very weird that he did not know that, he should have said to us: “Don't even think not to apply, there is no reason not to do that”. It took us lots of money and effort to rectify those bad decision outcomes. 2) Did not instruct us to pay for the issued shares. 3) Didn't instruct us to make 1099 for all founders. 4) Didn't make (or advise us to make) a stock plan to address the stock option pool creation To sum up: Definitely, would not recommend this lawyer to anyone.

Very competent lawyer. He is my lawyer in corporate business and connected activities, my second lawyer in CA and 6th during business life. Requires a minimum time for developing a solution, that saves my Time, Time, Time again and money. The main thing is that he very client focused, like he solving his own issues, and for sure, very competent in what he is doing. This helps me feel very confident in success. I highly recommend Alex for any person who runs business.

A first time DUI experience is very jarring and can leave lots of room for questions and worry, but she made the legal process much smoother and easier to navigate. Erica was friendly, approachable, and professional. She made sure to touch base with me during each stage of the process with the CA courts and was easy to reach at almost any time of the day if I had any questions. She laid out in clear terms what charges I was up against and what penalties I would face. I appreciated her realistic, honest guidance on what the outcomes of my case would be. I was happily able to reduce my charge to a wet and reckless with her advocacy.

My dui case went on for a while, in the end all Erica could manage was a straight plain dui conviction. I couldn’t even get a closer to favorable judgement, she seems new, I could have gotten the same result without attorney or a public attorney.

I always felt that I was in very good hands with Ms Jacobo and I would highly recommend her to anyone who wants a caring yet competent lawyer. On several occasions she really went the extra mile to make sure that all of the potential legal options in my case had been exhausted. Not only was she impressive in the courtroom, but I know she put in many hours researching precedent cases on my behalf. She is not only a quality lawyer, but a quality person as well.

David Zalob is very professional and knowledgeable in his field. After speaking with him, he was able to understand the exact issue I was having and how it could be resolved. He laid out all the relevant laws, the pros and cons, and discussed what actions would be taken based on the existing laws. David also works very fast. Just after one day of contacting him and sending the required documentation, he has started and sent out legal documentation. He knows what results his clients want and works very hard for them. He was very helpful and I would strongly recommend his legal services. 10/10

Craig and his team helped us to get our startup off the ground with all of the legalities of incorporating, board meetings, equity offerings, etc. While his hourly rate is eyepopping (although not by San Francisco standards), because he and his team are so efficient, it really evens out. I would highly recommend him to any startup forming in the bay area.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.

  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
