DO NOT HIRE THIS LAWYER.He is a slug, careless ,act like a pauper, does not answer your calls or answers days later, he is only after ur money. he does not take credit cards by telling you if he does , he will have to pay taxes. so he is a cheater already. Wants only cash or checks. while having 3 boats he claimes to be poor.he gives u long boring stories and lectures about his relationship with his girlfriend for 1 or even 2 hours instead of taking care of your case. he just wants to make money to make ends meet. lazy, slow, unknowledgeable, overweight, talks about irrelevant stuff. u will be sorry to hire him.i made that mistake by not yielding to other reviews about him. DO NOT MAKE MY MISTAKE. DO NOT HIRE THIS NOTORIOUS LAWYER.

I was looking at this site and saw the negative review from the guy whose case was dismissed and I am surprised that he was complaining about a dismissal. I had Mr. McBride deal with a Felony Assault with a Weapon arrest back in 2010 and I was happy with both the result (no conviction on my record) and the service (he immediately presented my issues to a supervising District Attorney). I would use this office again without hesitation as the fee was a fraction of what other lawyers charged for this. Maybe things changed or maybe the other client really had different expectations than I did but, I don't see how you can complain about a dismissal?

I was arrested on a restraining order violation. Hired Mr. McBride as my attorney. This was a very, very easy case for ANY attorney to have dismissed. My opponent had removed a critical part of the Judges order in the restraining order which prohibited me from being arrested. When the Sheriffs did not see that order, I was arrested. Mr. McBride spoke to the District Attorney assigned to my case and immediately showed the DA the discrepancy in the two restraining orders: One said I could not be arrested (mine and the original courts), the other did not have that page (my opponents he gave to the Sheriff for evidence). The DA immediately asked Mr. McBride, "How do I know your client did not write that himself and stick it in there?" (fair question). Mr. McBride said, "You don't. I don't. Get the original court order and get back to me." When the DA obtained the original court order and saw the original and mine were identical and my opponents copy had that critical page missing, the DA knew immediately that page was removed and, knowing there was no way the DA would win this case, dismissed the case before trial. Easy case to have dismissed before trial. Why so few stars when he won my case? Having Mr. McBride return phone calls was a case in futility. This attorney just NEVER corresponds with his clients. In my case, the first meeting with Mr. McBride and the DA was in November. The case was continued until Dec 18th for the DA to receive the original court order. After December 18, I did call Mr. McBride a couple times, hoping to get an update before the Christmas break. No such luck. I phoned Mr. McBride at least 10 times in January. Never a return call. I phoned Mr. McBride at least 5 times in February until he finally answered his phone. I asked him for an update on my case. He said the case was dismissed back in December. I asked why he didn't call me or send me an email or a text to let me know that it was dismissed. Mr. McBride said, "The court should have done that." No Sir. You're MY attorney. I hired YOU. YOU do that. Not the courts. That's what you get from Mr. McBride. Good luck receiving updates or a courtesy return phone call. I'm sure when Mr. McBride improves on this much needed aspect of his practice, his ratings will dramatically improve as well.

I was being taken advantage of by the doctor and the insurance company. Jim went to battle for me. The judge ordered the insurance company to pay me for several months which they were disputing. Jim argued to the judge and earned me the ability to treat with any doctor of my choice outside of the insurance companies MPN. The insurance company offered me a compromise & release for $20,000 but James and his office worked overtime to get me $45,000. it seemed he was also always a phone call or at least an email away morning day or night. I highly recommend him.

Every time I call, I get put on hold for more than 10min. They lie to me all the time, some one at the office asked me for my legal status, A girl at the office offered me a cash advance for my case, I say ok. She keep asking me to call back tomorrow so I did called until one day she told me that it was not approved, I ask her to mail me the copy of that and she said that it was verbal, so I sake her for the name and number of the person who did not approved it and she gave me a name and number, I called and I asked why my cash advance was decline and the adjuster told me that she NEVER RECIVED A REQUEST FOR ANYTHING FROM THE OFFICE OF MOSES LUNA. I went to the office and the lawyers want me to sign a document were they can let me go to any other LAWER, after 3 years, after they have done NOTHING BUT IGNORING MY CASES, I say no. They suppose to get back to me the next day, it is 3 weeks and they have not done a thing. Every time I call I get IGNORED..... This is not a Profesional way of treat no one. Mr. Luna is so kind, but that does not help......

I filed a claim through workman's comp after seriously injuring my back. After a year of minimal treatment and acusations of faking my injuries I hired Richard. The day after meeting with Richard, I was refered to a specialist. The following week I was in surgery. The WC company would not back down but niether did Richard. In the end, with Richard's tenacity and hard work, we prevailed. I have recommended and continue to recommend Richard Torres for workmans comp cases.

This lawyer took my personal injury/auto accident case and filed a summons for court hearing, which was fine. He always had a problem however, not calling or taking calls from clients. I had used his legal services in the past, and his communications was always a weak point. Gary had scheduled a meeting with me and a case witness that traveled from northern C, to meet with him. Chambers cancelled the Thursday meeting and re-scheduled for the following Monday. The witness flew down again - and five hrs. before the Monday afternoon meeting his office called and cancelled again! The meeting was again scheduled for Wednesday afternoon. I called his office to speak with him and find out what was going on! He wouldn’t speak with me but I got an email from him (he wouldn't even call me to explain) and he stated in the e-mail that he is going to withdraw from my case - because I upset his staff with my calls about meeting changes and case details! Now, I have a pending court case and no lawyer! STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE!

I hired Mr. Salgado to represent me on a illegal search and seizure case which they wanted me to go to prison for 2yrs. Mr. Salgado had seen my previous attorney (Roger Sheaks) completely disregard my feelings, wishes, needs , and requests. Insensitive and self serving Roger Sheaks stated he would not help me. He wanted me to plead guilty and take a 2 year sentence. Mr Rueben Salgado accepted my case and before it went to trial filed a motion and when that motion was being heard, went thru my charges and tore holes into every charge and every (5) report written from Tustin police officers reports 5 officers . Until the D.A. Had to tell the Judge * I have no charges against Ms. Demora, I motion for dismissal. It was a very happy happy. And happy !!!!!! I fought for almost 2 years, $50,000.00 bail and a few weeks in jail.instead of anytime in jail once I hired Salgado I did NO TIME. THANK YOU FOR HELPING ME, XXXOOOOXXXXXXOOOOO

During our recent visit to Newport Beach to create a new trust, my wife and I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Max Alavi, who proved to be the most exceptional family law attorney I have ever encountered. Max and Diana, his office manager, were always available to answer our questions and provided clear and prompt responses, making the process easy to understand from the very beginning. Their commitment to ensuring everything ran seamlessly was truly inspiring, and I highly recommend their law office to anyone in need of such services. I hope to work with them again in the future. Thank you, team! Tony B.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
