I worked with Jim Bullard from this law firm. It was a divorce case with a minor child. I am writing this review as a person who got shared legal and physical custody. But we didn't go to court. My ex-wife and I decided to share it. I don't recommend Jim Bullard to anyone for a divorce case. At the beginning, he can hook your interest easily to take your case but he doesn't put effort later. He is not a detail oriented person. He is also lack of professionalism. In the middle of the process, he can tell you go find a different attorney if you are not happy with me. If you want to pay somebody who keeps your files together and answers some question he can help you. But you can find anyone for less amount of money.

I hired this lawyer for a divorce case a year or so back. He is incredibly polite, calm, knowledged, and fought for me harder than I even fought for myself in court. Would highly reccomend this lawyer.

I contacted Jason in July 2023 to get my POA and trust documents written to have available for my son whenever I pass away. I paid in full (his rule - now I know why). He got the documents to me in August (I believe). I contacted him on 9/1 for two blank forms from one of the documents so I could type up what I wanted on them. He offered to get that done for me. I emailed 5 times, text, and called the office and his cell. I finally received the complete 4 documents again on 12/27/23 (almost four months later!); two of which had the wrong names on them. I contacted him immediately and informed him; and had to email another 4 times. Jason kept blaming ME for this taking so long (you could have called; you could have text). I DID these things; he never responded until I told him he was fired and I would be finding a competent attorney. I received the "corrected" documents 3/11/24; two documents had an incorrect address; one document had my name misspelled; and there were other typos. Last week, he text me that he would issue me a partial refund. This week, he is refusing me any refund.

If you intentions are to maintain or gain custody of your child or children DO NOT USE Jason Lile as your Attorney. He is just there to take your money. Mr. Lile wasn't very professional leading up to court, and was extremely outclassed in the court room by opposing counsel. I realize that there are a lot of us out that this may be your first time hiring a attorney. The truth is you don't know what you don't know until it happens and you wished you were represented by the type of attorney who advised you properly and was working in your best interest. Please don't make the same mistake I made in choosing Mr. Lile expecting him to be that type of attorney because he is not, you will lose your kids no matter if your a great mother or father with his representation.

We hired Kathleen in March 2020, in July 2020 we had to hire a new attorney. 4 months and $10K later! Kathleen did nothing to help our case. She let the opposing attorney run over her and call all of the shots. She was very good at charging us but did nothing to help out case. Literally nothing. We are actually worse off than we were when we started. I do not recommend her at all.

Please save your money and time. He has a horrible reputation in local parenting groups, as he does not hold the other party accountable when they do not follow recommendations. He takes MONTHS to file the recommendations, doesn't respond to emails, or calls. This is consistent across the board from multiple people who use him. He seems to be biased towards moms, as well. I would not recommend him, as I feel I've only wasted thousands of dollars on his "services" in a high conflict parenting situation for it to only get worse with no consequences to the opposing party. Save your time and money; hire someone who actually wants to help the parties and keeps them accountable.

She was my lawyer and we had a falling out the day before we went to court. I was told she was not going to show up if I didn't pay more money after giving her thousands of dollars. I could not afford to give her more and thought that we were covered for more time so I was scared and was told she would not show so I became upset and let her firm know how I felt. But she did show, I was relieved but she told me to wait outside while she would go in and handle things. While I waited outside, she went in and decided to ensure I got the maximum amount of child support possible and then come out and told me to have a good life as she walked away laughing. This is not someone I would ever consider using nor would I ever trust this person to do what is best for you.

District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler is the worst kind of coward. Not only does he celebrate the murder of a teen but he looks their family in the eye and says it was a suicide. How blatantly moronic or incompetent can one be? If they had a shred of dignity they would resign. But everyone knows a coward of this magnitude lives only for one thing - the miniscule amount of power and control they feel that they deserve over the very citizens that they don't care about. Shame on you Steve. I honestly don't know how you sleep at night.

Horrible communication, I had to do all the research and when I gave them information to notify the opposing side they sat on it for months before trying to serve them (which they obviously were away from that location by that time). They had SEVERAL clerical errors in their documents and didn't notify me of issues that arose and I had to find out from the state and call them to get it handled.

I hired Mr. Pearson to work my custody case a few years ago. I had gathers mounds of evidence and this was my first time every dealing with going to court so i was unsure of what was needed. There wasnt much guidance on what he needed from me. When i did get him the info needed. He didnt use it. I wanted to fight for custody due to several reasons i wont list on here, and i thought that was what we were going to do. Unfortunately I didnt see any paperwork for our divorce until we got to court that morning and turns out he was friends with the opposing attorney and they had written up our decree as joint. Which was a shock for me. And i honestly was ok with the joint custody. But several things in the decree were in favor of one party and it has caused so many issues for our child. So be wary and shop around. Make sure you find someone who is willing to work with and for you and not for themselves.

Now this is a wrongful death against my son. So he waits until the 2 year statue of limitation runs out then tells us 2 months prior. I was out of time due to him lying.

I used Ms. Gusman in a MVA, and she only called me to tell me that there isn't enough insurance money for me to get the surgery that I NEED!! and pay her at the same time along with the medical bills. Has ZERO empathy for her clients. She didn't try to help find a solution. What is the point of a lawyer?

High-profile, time-dictated estate matter in Santa Barbara, involving apartment buildings that my family is very shortly to have dumped in our laps. I was notified through the trust that we had THREE WEEKS to prepare ourselves to take on the ownership, management, insurance, and a $200,000 liability on top from deposits that one Lola Zinke(look it up) ABSCONDED WITH. He assured me that he could handle it, had "many, many" connections in CA & his father practiced out there for 40 years. Good for his daddy. I hope he had more integrity. We are under a timeline and he made promises that he didn't keep, made me wait more than a week to "research it," and after he wasted my (and my family's) valuable time, severed communications, leaving us in a WORSE POSITION than before I conferred with him. As far as his degree in "Theology," although he may have read the books, he has zero integrity as far as I'm concerned, and uses it to mislead people like me. Don't let him waste YOUR time if you have BUSINESS to accomplish. He CAN'T handle it. Then he won't TELL YOU that he can't.

First court date prepared me to not answer more than asked. Never happened! Also told was going to ask for a mutual epo. she offered judge a 60 day epo when I asked about mutual was told that unheard of. Never was called to testify. Mislead had to ask multiple times for paperwork. She set up times to meet. Three to be exact never to show. Finally 9 months later was told she would send me the decree. Never sent it until 56 minutes before appearing in front of judge. She rushed or tried to rush me to sign it. When asking questions I was told I’m bizzar. Was told if i didn’t sign she was quitting. I still have no idea where I stand. Definitely a very odd/ bizarre situation I’ve ever been a part of. I would bet money she was paid off if not then she just is a lousy representative!

Had a very bad experience with this lawyer. He took my money and didn’t do anything and I mean he literally didn’t do anything. He only made one court appearance and after that he wouldn’t even show up. A lot of times I had to remind him what my case was even about smh. Just a horrible experience that resulted in me loosing of course.

So it goes like this. Marijuana possession case. Mark speaks to me like I'm a child. Sets up a court date. The court "loses" my documents. I showed up to 5 separate appearances at which I was simply rescheduled. 4 of which nether he nor his representation appeared at all. Yes I was left alone! 3 times! In court! Then, turns out he literally couldn't do anything about my case anyway and neither could his paralegals, whom by the way didn't even know my name! Ridiculous. If you want to waste your money, how these people. "An attorney you can count on" to sit at home and do nothing while you have to represent yourself. I found out that he evidently is a truck driver now because he's a terrible lawyer. Go figure.

Acted like he was there to help every one but me. After release I asked him to withdrawal of my guilty plea. He refused Consulted multiple other Attorney's and was told he was my attorney and he must withdraw my guilty plea if that is what I wanted. Again I asked. His friends and other clients profited from me the most.

This review is in English and Spanish. Esta revision tambien es encuentra en espanol When I started doing research online on becoming a citizen I realized I was not going to be capable of filling out USCIS forms so I decided to hire a professional. Mr. Sobel was the only attorney that was able to see us on a sunday as my husband works during the week. After the consultation Mr. Sobel left us with the impression that he was a professional that would take pride of his work. He also shared that he had worked for Pipeliners Local Union 798 just like my husband. After writing a check for $1,500 I gave him all the necessary documents that had all my information and my name. After two months of the consultation I realized I had made the worst mistake by hiring and paying Mr. Sobel for his services and that his firm does not take pride of their work. I ran into three problems with Mr. Sobel 1. Mr. Sobel mistyped my address. His typo caused for me not to received very important documents/notices from USCIS from June 29 to November 24, 2014. To top the typo Ms. Coulter tried to cover up the fact that they had mistyped my address by lying to me. 2. Mr. Sobel received a RFE from USCIS, I did not since USCIS had my neighbors address on my file, and wanted me to pay $750 for a response that was very simple to do and that was out of my budget. After two typos I decided not to allow Mr. Sobel do the response and informed his firm that I was going to do my own response. After I had informed firm, Mr. Sobel withdrew from representing me. If you hire him and something comes up for your case he will expect you to pay or lose his representation. 3. THE WORST ONE Mr. Sobel mistyped my last name on I-765. I had reviewed my packet with Ms. Coulter and we both did not catch any errors as she flipped the pages of the packet. I asked for a copy of my packet but was rejected and Ms.Coulter assured me I would get a copy. 24 days later I received a copy on my email and I noticed the error. I contacted Ms. Coulter and brought the typo to their attention and asked if the typo would hurt my petition in any way. She responded with no. I received my EAD card with a wrong last name, the name that Mr. Sobel printed on the I-765 application and the only way to fix his typographical error is to resubmit the application with the fee ($465). When I asked Mr. Sobel for a refund of the fee, since I have to fix his error and redo his job, he claimed that it is not his duty to fix it since he no longer represents me and that it was my fault. His front desk employee, Ms. Irene, shared on January 2015 that she usually reviews packets before they are sent off to USCIS, but that she did not reviewed mine. Yet my signed packet sat in his firm for 24 days. So far Mr. Sobel has not done a single thing to fix his typographical error. Ms. Coulter had told me that the typo was not going to affect my petition yet I can not get a social security number, a job, a drivers license, or even start looking for scholarships. Mr. Sobel gained $1,000 and I have to redo his job and his SOLUTION TO THE TYPO WAS TO RECOMMEND ME TO GO AHEAD AND GET A SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER WITH A WRONG LAST NAME. I did not since that is very illegal. I will be making a complain to the Bar Association. Please DO NOT trust this attorney with your hard earned money.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?

  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?

  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
