I am grateful for those who faithfuly manage the lord's assets. Grateful to be a part of a church that does so much for the world and they do it all without major fame or publicity. I pray for those who have lost their faith due to the materialistic and vain things of this world.

He doesn't listen but loves to talk. I paid over $12,000 for nothing except a deadline extention "so he had time to review my case". Every meeting we had was primarily spent with him telling me about golf and making golf analogies. I kept telling him that I don't know or want to know about golf so let's just stick to the facts of my case, instead he kept trying to explain how golf was like my case. I even heard about his kid's activities in a golf team at school. Mr Rooker apparently had a meeting with other attornies in his office to plan subpeonas but after a couple months they still had not been prepared or issued and I never saw them. For over $12,000 I he did on my case was get an extention that I didn't want. I bet if he was asked about my case, he wouldn't be able to get even 10 facts correct because he never listened and was making up stories to make my case fit what he wanted it to to win.

I've never written an online review, but I was traveling and looking for Mr. Rooker's contact information online when I saw a disparaging review of him on this site. I don't know the author of that review, but I know and have worked periodically with Mr. Rooker for more than 20 years (he's represented me and several people I've referred to him). I can say unequivocally that Mr. Rooker is an exceptional, diligent, and honest attorney. I know from personal experience that he is respected by other attorneys and judges. I believe the critique of Mr. Rooker on this site is the result of miscommunication/misunderstanding, was written by someone who did not want to hear candid, hard, honest advice, or was actually written by an adverse party who did not like having Mr. Rooker on the other side of a case.

I needed him for a similar case he had previously, and he was recommended because of that. He was a bully, and didn't really listen to understand what I needed from the get go. Right away he began arguing with me, but then pulled in several colleagues so they could "listen" and opine on what we should do. So I wasted a day and he charged me $6000 and even his sandwich lunch he ordered from the shop next door!!!! And I only fully realized near the end of the day, me telling my story the whole time, that he had NO intention of taking the case, and was just pulling in several attorneys and wasting my time just to get money! He isn't as intelligent on the issues, so he acts aggressive and bullying. I should have walked out within 5 minutes. Even though he swore up and down I would lose the case, I went to his competitor (who I wanted to use at the beginning, but wasn't available that day), and She was MUCH better, WAY more intelligent and capable, and WE WON! So don't go for his bullying pushy rhetoric. Choose someone you will feel comfortable with.

The state of Utah and the Salt Lake Legal Defender Association should be ashamed of this woman, and her previous colleagues including Daniel Torrence. Nathaniel Swift, and the DIShonerable Katherine Bernards-Goodman. They all should be arrested, charged and then have their cases railroaded, just as they schemed to have Luis Sanchez imprisoned despite him wanting to fight his case, and your lack there of, as his own attorney. You had the right to drop him from your cases if it bothered you so much, and him recieve a new DA, but you didn't! INSTEAD, you thought "hey he's just some brown immigrant, who cares?" DESPICABLE.

I mean she's a PERFECT Defense Attorney if you want an attorney that's willing to lie on record, and DELIBERATELY get you imprisoned! So if that's what you're going for- you should DEFINITELY hire her! OR Torrence! They're both great at that!

We were referred to Travis to build trusts for our family and to transfer our business to more secure holdings. What a colossal mistake. After our initial engagement fees were paid, we were expecting to have a little extra money due. But bill after bill kept coming and wouldn’t stop. We tried to get an explanation on each charge, but to no avail. We finally had to contact another lawyer to stop all “work” being done for us and to transfer all our files away from them. The new lawyer had us done quicker, cheaper, and better than we could have hoped. Don’t make the same mistake my husband and I made. Steer clear of Travis and his firm.

We went to Travis to try to settle a $11,000 tax debt. We jump through hoops, spent thousands of dollars, and discovered that there were no calls or attempts made to lessen our debts. My husband and I finally called and got the relief we were looking for. Much to our complete surprise and disgust, we received another $2500 bill for "services rendered". When we attempted to call to discuss this we received the runaround. No one would speak to us. Not Travis or any other attorneys, accounting, paralegals; no one. Clearly they are in some financial issues and in doing further research which we should've done in the 1st Pl., Travis has been reprimanded by the state board. It's absolutely astonishing that someone like him and someone like this company is still in business.

We were looking for a reliable trust attorney to get our affairs in order and ensure our business was properly taken care of. When we sat down with Travis he went through this "system" that he has in which he attempted to get us to sign a $10,000 Engagement letter which would assess all of our assets. All we were really looking for was to tighten our trust and affairs. After we explain this to him we continue to get extremely annoying and unprofessional calls from his office weekly if not twice a week. Absolutely a terrible experience. Keep looking elsewhere!

Sally commits perjury on a daily basis and is under bar review. Her firm tries to protect her, but she will hopefully be disbarred soon. Her firm violated a conflict of interest, I interviewed them and then they took my ex wife on as a client.

Sally is one of the most unprofessional attorneys I have ever encountered. She was unprepared, lacked follow- through, and did not advocate for me. I was bullied by her. When you are at your lowest point and need an advocate, she will not fight for you. Honestly, I felt like she was fighting against me. I was shocked by her lack of performance. She is a phony. She pretends to be supportive, but all she can do is argue against you and go on personal trips. She is always on vacation. When she actually does work, her work is full of punctuation errors and mistakes. I am surprised she works at a prestigious firm. The biggest error I made was in hiring Sally. I honestly don’t have one good thing to say about her. Please do yourself a favor and stay away from her and her shoddy work.

I signed a retainer for $1000 and was told, if work needed to be done over that amount that I would be informed and I would have to sign a new retainer. I was NEVER kept informed of hours being charged. They billed my credit card for $6031. They will not return my calls or emails. Will not do anything now that they have my money. I have contacted BBB & filed a complain with the Utah State Bar.

He was the leading attorney over my case. When I asked for my money back because of the lack of work that his junior attorney had not done; he wouldn't give me my money back. He claimed he did work for me that was not done. This firm, as well as this attorney, is not to be trusted.

She was not my specific lawyer. But never have I met a lawyer who babysat minor children during a custody issue. Included minor in emai communication about adult issues nor actually said in court that her client was left with one dish and one utensil. A blatant lie. That is what she is good at lying and distorted stories.

He is a lawyer who will fill his clients with delusions of grandeur and make them believe they will get everything they want. He is not above lying and trying to destroy a person's life. If you would feel good about hiring a man who is that type of person, by all means hire him, but just know that he will lie to you just like he lies in court.

Jay Bell has been a very poor attorney he does not return phone calls he does not represent you well he does not care about protecting your Family Trust. We are very disappointed and everything he has not done to help us. He has collected our money to the amount of $15,000 which was a waste of time and money by hiring this horrible attorney. He won't even give a current update of how he spent the money when we asked for it. For your own protection be sure you make a contract in your favor before you do anything with this attorney beware and be cautionary.

What a Business Lawyer Can Do for You

A business lawyer provides critical legal guidance and support to entrepreneurs, startups, and established businesses. Whether you are forming a new company, drafting contracts, or navigating complex regulations, a business attorney ensures you are legally protected and operating within the law. They can also help prevent legal disputes or represent you in negotiations, transactions, or lawsuits that arise during the course of business operations.

Business lawyers have expertise in areas such as business formation, contract law, intellectual property, employment law, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance. They ensure that your business is compliant with relevant laws and help mitigate risks that could threaten your company's success.

When Should I Hire a Business Lawyer?

Hiring a business lawyer is essential at various stages of business development, including:

  • Forming a business: When deciding on the best structure for your company (LLC, corporation, partnership, etc.), a lawyer can guide you through the registration and compliance process.
  • Drafting contracts: If you need contracts for employees, partners, suppliers, or clients, a lawyer ensures these documents are legally sound and in your best interest.
  • Mergers, acquisitions, or dissolutions: If you are buying, selling, or dissolving a company, legal counsel is critical to avoid costly mistakes.
  • Compliance and regulatory issues: A lawyer can help navigate complex regulations, particularly in industries like healthcare, finance, or tech.
  • Resolving disputes: Whether it's contract disagreements, intellectual property infringement, or employment issues, a business lawyer helps mediate, negotiate, or litigate on your behalf.

What Does a Business Lawyer Do?

Business lawyers provide a wide range of services that cater to different legal needs of a business. They can:

  • Help you choose the best legal structure for your business.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with employees, suppliers, customers, or business partners.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
  • Advise on tax strategies to minimize your business's tax burden.
  • Assist with intellectual property protection, such as trademarks, patents, and copyrights.
  • Handle mergers, acquisitions, and business sales, ensuring all legal paperwork is in order.
  • Resolve disputes through negotiation, arbitration, or litigation.

How Are Business Lawyers Paid?

Business lawyers typically charge either by the hour or on a flat-fee basis, depending on the complexity of the work. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rates: The lawyer charges based on the time spent working on your case. Rates vary depending on the lawyer's experience and location.
  • Flat fees: For certain tasks, such as incorporating a business or drafting a standard contract, a lawyer may offer a flat fee.
  • Retainer: Some businesses may hire a lawyer on retainer, paying a fixed amount each month to have ongoing access to legal services.

The payment structure is often discussed during an initial consultation so you can choose the one that best suits your business needs and budget.

How Much Does a Business Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a business lawyer depends on factors such as:

  • The complexity of the legal issue: More complex matters, like mergers or intellectual property disputes, typically cost more than routine tasks like contract drafting.
  • The lawyer's experience and location: More experienced lawyers or those in larger cities often charge higher fees.
  • The nature of the billing arrangement: Hourly rates can range from $150 to $1,000 or more, depending on the lawyer's expertise. Flat fees are usually available for simpler matters like forming an LLC or drafting a standard contract.

It's essential to discuss fee structures upfront to avoid surprises.

Top Questions to Ask a Business Lawyer

Before hiring a business lawyer, ask the following questions during your consultation:

  1. What is your experience with businesses like mine?
Find out if the lawyer has handled legal issues for companies in your industry.
  2. What services do you offer?
Ensure the lawyer can meet all your business's legal needs, from contract drafting to dispute resolution.
  3. What are your fees, and how do you bill?
Get clarity on how you'll be charged - whether by the hour, flat fee, or retainer.
  4. How do you handle conflicts of interest?
Ask how the lawyer ensures there is no conflict in representing your business.
  5. Can you provide references from other business clients?
Speaking with past clients will give you an idea of the lawyer's expertise and professionalism.
  6. Do you have experience in my specific industry?
Industry-specific knowledge can be crucial, especially in highly regulated fields like healthcare or finance.

How to Check the Credibility of a Business Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable business lawyer:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is in good standing and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for client reviews or testimonials: Online reviews, testimonials, or word of mouth from other business owners can provide insight into the lawyer's reliability and effectiveness.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should have satisfied clients who can vouch for their services.
  • Check professional memberships: Membership in respected legal organizations (such as the American Bar Association or a local business lawyer association) can signal credibility.
  • Review their website and professional profile: A well-established lawyer typically has a professional website showcasing their areas of expertise, credentials, and case success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with a business lawyer, prepare the following:

  • A description of your business and its structure: This will help the lawyer understand your legal needs.
  • Any current contracts or agreements: If you're seeking contract advice, bring copies of existing contracts.
  • A list of legal issues or concerns: Be ready to discuss any potential legal challenges, such as regulatory compliance, disputes, or transactions.
  • Financial documents: If applicable, bring financial records related to the legal matter you're seeking help with.
  • Questions about fees and billing: Ensure you understand the lawyer’s payment structure and fees upfront.

By preparing these materials, you can ensure that your first meeting with a business lawyer is productive and informative.
