One of the BEST attorneys out there, I promise u that! Matter of fact, I’m at her law firm as u read this knowing that something will be done hands down.

Judith moved mountains for us!! We lived in a small town and grandson was related to most of the law. She didn’t back down like our other lawyer. Thanks to her and his counselor my grandson is now safe with his mother. He’s been with us for over a year now and is still traumatized by what was done to him. I can’t imagine where we would be today if it wasn’t for her help.

If I could give less than one star I would negligent doesn’t begin to describe this attorney she has not communicated with me since the day I wrote her a check not a return phone call not a return text or email I personally went to her office three times and spoke with her assistant who every time told me she was not in the office. I requested that my file be ready for me to take to another attorney and email to me or that I be called but I was ready for pick up this was about six months ago I have not heard the case was very simple required a mirror appearance and nothing much further than that filing a motion. I went to another lawyer after having to handle half of the issue myself personally for free and paid less than half of what she charged me to have him take care of this in less than two weeks in the meantime I have filed a bar complaint and still not heard anything back from this attorney steer clear I cannot warn you strongly enough against using her.

Mr. Vale and his paralegal are literally the best office you can hire. I first haired then back in 2014 when i was going through a divorce , and that time i was 22 didn’t know much but they had my back. He showed up then very next day for court although i just hired him the day before. Kathrine is super knowledgeable, sweet, and such an asset to this office. This team is literally a financial duo. Since 2014 i have hired them for numerous other issues and they never fail to come through. They have become a second family to me and i will recommend them in a heart beat to anyone who needs action taken... and quick. Reasonably priced, loyal, and dedicated.

Met with him in Dec 2018 with his promise to file by 22 Dec 2018. Did Not Happen. Next visit in Jan 2018, he finally got off his butt to file. Presented him with all the material evidence a lawyer could want and did NOT even make copies of the evidence and 2 months later requested information he was already provided. Now that it is time to show up for a hearing, he said the other parties lawyer is a good friend of his that he went to school with. WHAT DO YOU THINK MY CHANCES ARE OF GETTING OUT OF THIS DIVORCE WITHOUT BEING SKINNED ALIVE AND NAILED TO THE CROSS??? !!! Don't Even Bother With This Lawyer!!! Slow, uncaring phone service. Hired him to have ticket dismissed and never heard from them again. It required two phone calls to ever get proof matter was taken care of. I paid to have a ticket taken care of because I didn't have time to handle it myself. Having to hound my attorney to make sure he did the work defeated the purpose of hiring him. Attorney I have used on previous cases was much easier to deal with.

When I first met with Mr. Redgate he promised me that would go to all hearings and when it came down to going he didn't know There was one scheduled and on top of that he wanted to charge me extra for going. He stated in the beginning that my fee would cover all that but it didn't. I ended up going to the meeting by myself but luckly for me I becaom a permanet resident. Thanks for nothing Mr. Redgate.

I have seen the other reviews and I do not understand how people would say those things. Mr. Redgate handled my immigration case and told me that it would be difficult from the very beginning. He told me my options and explained everything that he could do. He also told me to talk to other lawyers so that I would be sure that I was comfortable dealing with whoever took my case. I took his advice and did speak to other lawyers but after listening to them decided to go with Mr. Redgate. The case took a long time to complete and we had to go to several hearings, but we were successful!

I HAVE HAD OCCASION OVER THE PAST TEN YEARS TO SEEK AND RECEIVE ASSISTANCE FROM JAMES HUNT CONCERNING HIS REPRESENTATION OF MY SON AND MY SELF IN CONJUNCTION WITH VIOLATION TO SEVERAL CRIMINAL ORDINANCES. ALTHOUGH THE REASON FOR THE CRIMES WAS SIMPLE. TEXAS LAWS ARE VERY FEW AND VAGUE REGARDING MENTAL ILLNESS DISABILITY AND THE DISPOSITION OF SUCH THINGS. AT THE TIME AND STILL TODAY WHILE THERE IS MUCH TALK OF SEPARATING THE CRIMINAL FROM THE MENTALLY DISABLED. THE LEGISLATORS WHO CAN CHANGE THINGS ARE NOT DOING SO. IN ORDER TO FIND HELP FOR OUR SITUATION WE WERE INDIRECTLY COERCED TO BREAK CERTAIN LAWS. THE ONGOING PRACTICE WE EXPERIENCED WAS: 1, CALL THE POLICE. 2. THE POLICE DETAINED THOSE CONCERNED AND TOOK THEM BEFOR THE MAGISTRATE FOR ASSIGNATION. 3. JAMES WAS CONTACTED AND THRU MANY MONTHS OF COMPASSIONATE EFFORT HELPED RRSOLVE OUR ISSUES WITH THE LAW AND DIRECTED US TO THE PROPER AGENCIES TO GUIDE US IN THE DIRECTION NEEDED. THE POINT IS IN THE PAST AND STILL TODAY FOR MANY OF US THE ONLY WAY TO SECURE HELP IS TO BREAK THE LAW . GET INTO "THE SYSTEM" GET A POLICE RECORD FOR THE VIOLATIONS AND AN ATTORNEY TO STEER YOU TO THE PROPER PEOPLE TO RECEIVE ASSISTANCE. TO DATE WE ARE 2 FREE PEOPLE WITH POLICE RECORDS FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO KNOW WHAT TO DO. IT IS NICE TO SEE THE CHIEF OF POLICE AND THE COUNTY SHERIFF TELL THE CITZENRY ON TV THAT THEY HAVE ESTABLISHED "MENTAL HEALTH UNITS" BUT WHEN WE REQUESTED THEIR AID AND RESPONSE WE WERE TOLD "CALL THIS NUMBER BETWEEN 9 TO 5." SADLY MANY OF THESE CASES OCCUR BETWEEN 5PM AND 9AM. SO IT IS OFF TO JAIL. THAT IS WHAT WE HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH. OUR ONLY REST AND PEACE OF MIND CAME THRU JAMES WHO WORKED TIRELESSLY TO DIFUSE THE PROBLEMS. ADMITELY WE DID VIOLATE THE ORDINANCES BUT ONLY TO GET SOMONES ATTENTION FOR HELP. OUR NEXT GOAL IS TO GET THE POLICE RECORD EXPUNGED DUE TO EXTENUATING ISSUES. I PERSONALLY WAS CHARGED WITH DISCHARGING A FIREARM WITHIN A COMMUNITY OF GREATER THAN 500,000. REALITY: I FIRED MY GUN AT THE CEILING IN MY HOUSE FOR THE NOISE. TO GET EVERYBODYS ATTENTION. WELL THAT WORKED SOME. I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT WE HAVE KNOW AND UTILIZED JAMES' TALENTS AND EDUCATION FOR OVER 10 YRS. AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO. I WOULD GIVE HIM AN AVVO RATING OF 9. I.LL SAVE THE 10 FOR WHEN THE LAWS ARE CHANGED. HARVEY W. ZOMBRO JR.

Marlon took on a case for our family even though he was very busy, and it was not going to be one of his most profitable cases. However, his professionalism and diligence was undiminished. He handled it correctly, beginning to end, was timely in his communication and with us. Although he appears young, his level of knowledge on not only immigration law but also local courtroom proceedings was equivalent to a much more weathered attorney. Marlon is an attorney we believe can be trusted and we will tell all of our friends how grateful we are for his service. Immigration can seem intimidating, especially for non-English speakers, Marlon is definitely capable and well respected as an attorney.

This "Law Firm" is a joke. I paid over $2500 for what essentially amounted to one in office visit with CPS. We were quoted $2000 to handle a BOGUS CPS case. Paid in FULL and Mr Garza (Andrew) calls and tells us Mr Garza is with drawing from our case. We still have CPS in our lives (now more than ever because we do not have the protection of a attorney. They have threatened to take my daughter away and caused all kinds of stress in my life. We met with Mr Garza only one time. His paralegal Andrew did all the "work" on the case and billed us $100 a hour. Mr Garza never had me or my family in mind. All they were concerned with is how much money they could squeeze out of you. Called literally every day demanding more money. They missed filings on Court Proceedings that would have got CPS shut down, had numerous typos on signed Affidavits, didn't know who needed to sign the affidavits, didn't put in any evidence from our side, asked us to provide things for him and our evidence and then never used them. I could go on and on. I have worked in the legal field for a very long time and I have NEVER seen unprofessional, incompetent people in my life. Andrew is literally one of the most incompetent man I have ever met. All he would do is upset my wife and tell her how we should be prepared to lose. It was a BS slam door case. When I told him I wanted him to go in there and SHUT THIS DOWN ONCE AND FOR ALL, Andrew told me i would have to pay around $6,000 for Mr Garza to "take the gloves off" Like.... what?? He is total garbage and you are better off going ProSe in your case than ever letting these baboons even look at your case

This law firm engaged in fraud, and deceitful practices in my personal injury case. They are also dishonest, and deceptive in their practices. I just filed grievances against Tom Crosley, Steven Nunez, and Brennan Jenkins. I also had to report them to the authorities for stealing & misappropriating funds from a settlement. Lastly, this firm can't be trusted. They withdrew from my case one month before trial because the lawyer wanted to go to Japan for personal reasons. The most dishonorable group of attorneys that I've ever met hands down. The case has now been settled, & get this, Tom Crosley is trying to bill me for expert witnesses even though he never Nunez did any depositions, & I'm not going to trial. This attorney violated my constitutional rights by bullying or coercing me into accepting a low settlement or withdrawing. This guy, Crosley, & Nunez are total scammers. I will be uploading documents for proof very soon. Find a law firm that posts reviews from actual clients, not former employees like this scammer, Crooked Crosley. This law firm stole $37K from my family. Crosley also scammed me out of an additional $10K by sending a doctor to my home for 15 minutes. Dr. Brandon Goff was also part of this scam, he was supposed to write me a life plan that I never received, & was never able to use because the lawyer Crosley was in on the scam & withdrew. They never planned on taking my case to trial. It was a total waste of time dealing with this law firm.

Mr. Leal was probably the 10th lawyer in the area I met with to discuss my very difficult child custody case, he was absolutely knowledgeable, understanding, and was generally excited about taking my case. Mr. Leal never stopped amazing me, he called and kept me updated every step of the way. He went above and beyond any expectations I had. Mr. Leal methodically researched my case, gathering every piece of evidence we needed. Mr. Leal is the only reason I didn't loose hope during the most stressful time in my life. Mr. Leal worked with me for hours to mentally prepare me for everything that might happen in court. Mr. Leal was always understanding and comforting with me. Mr. Leal astonished me in court, he navigated through the case grace and precision. Don't let his normally sweet demeanor fool you, in court he's a pit bull. I recommend Mr. Leal to everyone dealing with custody issues. Mr. Leal is probably the most educated man I have ever had the pleasure to meet. I asked her multiple times to send me an email and a month later I still haven't received it. I call her, she says she'll call me back. A week later still nothing. I have to call again. She had me sign off on paperwork that ended up hurting my case and made things more difficult for me. And she had assured me that it wouldn't. She kept trying to get me to focus on the other lawyer and kept saying the other lawyer looked like he was going to drop the case. I don't understand why that needed to be a focus or concern. He was appointed to me. I spent 6 months in jail on a bond I couldn’t afford with conditions restricting me from returning home if bond was possible. When the money was raised we hired an attorney instead and within 3 days I was released from jail and a flood of motions began to get filed on my behalf. Court appointed attorneys are said to have to represent you to the fullest extent but they aren’t held to it. That has allowed Shaughnessy to collect small checks in return for zero work while lives are devastated. The 3 times I spoke with him he was obviously irritated and blatantly rude. The last time he began cursing and getting very rude when questioned about his obvious lack of effort. He did nothing for 6 months while I was in jail. 2 months after hiring another lawyer he filed a request for payment.

Richard D Woods was hired by my parents for a drug related indiscretion. He was responsive only in the first few weeks, at the time responding within a few days. THIS MAY BE IMPORTANT TO YOU: He did not notify me of a warrant for my arrest ahead of time, and I was escorted out of class. As the intensity of my case decreased, his response time increase proportionally, until he had handed my case over to a more conveniently located lawyer altogether. Richard woods, acting as a middleman for the local lawyer, accepted the original money, requested additional funds, and yet did not pay the upfront fee from the hired lawyer out of his funds. THIS MAY BE IMPORTANT TO YOU: The local lawyer was running for office Against the judge which my case was taking place in. Rick Woods either didn't account for the bias, or was aware of it and did not feel that my case warrented proper time and effort. The local lawyer did not push for any sort of renumeration or lessened intensity, and instead, influenced by personal ambition, made only novel attempts at allowing the record to be expunged in the future. A year after this excapade, I recieve an itemized bill from the local lawyer, having already sent it to Rick Woods, without any contact attempt from him.

Kristen and her husband Jeff knowingly let my husband go to prison. They lied to the state and let us fail when trying to prove innocence. We paid $25,000 for literally nothing. No defense, no help, nothing. We would have been better off with a public defender. She told the state that we were liars (even though we have proof of their wrongdoings) and therefore my husband will get to spend decades in prison for something the Mulliners KNOW he did not do. Thanks for that. So much for Justice. I hope karma comes back on you both. Stop practicing law regardless of which side you’re on. You’re ruining people’s lives every day and sadly you’ve ruined ours. The other reviews I’ve read here are 100% accurate so please do not get into bed with these people. Do your research and don’t repeat our mistakes. It will literally cost you everything.

Walk away. She lied over and over, said she did not say things that she said although we had several family present to hear it. Her husband and her work together, act like they're a caring team to help you or your loved one. Once she has the money, there's no work, no researching cases, no great Motions, let alone a Motion at all. Easy to take cases, make deals and walk away with the money and no work. Next case? She was assistant district attorney, still is, although under the guise of defense attorney.

Hired this Atty. For my son, facing an MTRP felony probation. Cuellar did manage to get him a bail set, which doesn't happen much with probation violations. So that's the positive. Negative, Mr.Cuellar does not return calls, letters,etc... I didn't expect the best results, considering the hard a** judge, but Cuellar kinda all but promised freedom and that turned into a couple years of TDCJ . Overall,I wouldn't recommend him, don't expect your calls to be returned and look around!

Mr.Cuellar was my atty. on one felony case (MTRP) and 2 misdemeanors . In the beginning, was great , SOUNDING. "Let`s fight this" . Went from that to not returning any of my calls , Not letting my family know anything as a professional courtesy . Gave me his word he would visit me in jail (3 times) , Never did . Only returned a call when I mentioned the State Bar . Very unprofessional. A seasoned 'jailhouse lawyer' could have resolved the misdemeanors faster than he did. So I got ISF (90 days) for the MTRP , but couldn`t get started on that because Cuellar couldn`t/wouldn`t get me a court date to resolve simple,Non -enhanced misdemeanors ! There you go, choose wisely! Doesn`t even have a secretary to take phone calls, just leave a voicemail and HOPE he calls back.

If I could give negative stars, I would. This man tried to scare me to get me to give him my cc info over zoom for his 5k retainer fee. He made me think cps was gonna come take my kids immediately over bogus claims that were recanted within 24hrs of them being made. The investigation never went anywhere.l and it was never that serious to begin with. He told me cos would take my children for me smoking cigarettes and that after their investigation I wouldn’t be allowed at my child’s school anymore. He was just spouting lies to scare me. He also immediately went and told cos I didn’t have a lawyer after I declined to give him my cc info over zoom. I would never recommend him to anyone!! Stay far away from this man!!

He was terrible at communicating, did not prepare me at all for court, refused to meet before court to go over anything. Did not use any of the evidence I brought him, did not let me object when the opposing side repeatedly lied on the witness stand about me. The only thing he did that I asked for was to ask the opposing side to pay for my legal fees since it was a bs suit, yet he did it after they repeatedly lied on the witness stand so it sounded like I was a complete degenerate who was unjustly asking for more than I deserved. If I could rate him zero stars I absolutely would. I have never met or even heard of a more disgraceful, lying, duplicitous lawyer and I would stay away from him at all costs.

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
