From the time I came to Washington began trying to get my self on track. A big step I took this year was filing for bankruptcy I was not taught about credit or how important of a impact it would be on my life as a grown adult in society. So i fell into some hardships garnishments affected my pay check fell behind on bills and struggled. Thanks to Mark and our 7-8 month case I will officially be done next week or two and be discharge to start my new line of credit and new finical journey. Along the way I have learned saving budgeting also better money management. Mark N. gave me a great price and manageable payment plan along with making sure I had all documents in order and ready to present my case.He was there with me every step of the way. I highly recommend him to anybody considering any kind of representation he keeps it honest and keeps you on track. Thanks Mark for my new start

I believe someone working or has worked for this company has/was doing illegal activities. For an example, Shehana Buksh sent a Will and Testament to someone via email without thoroughly verifying if that individual was the correct person. Also, the document looked like it was illegally edited.

Dont be fooled by the Google reviews. I spoke with Rebecca King about my father with huntingtons disease. Long story short - they only take clear cut cases after someone with an illness actually hurts someone. You have to wait until the person you love and are trying to protect actually does something you were trying to prevent. And they charge 450 per hour only after its a clear cut win because your loved one is in legal trouble. Do yourself a favor and find another lawyer that's willing to do the work to present a compelling case before shet hits the fan. If you're looking to update an estate plan, revise or fill out some paperwork, and you have tons of money to spare - Rebecca King will be your huckleberry. If you need a lawyer - look elseware.

Tenacious! Bill Gilbert is exactly what you would want, when you are looking for an attorney to defend and protect you, in maybe one of the most vulnerable and critical times in your life. He means what he says, and says what he means. You absolutely can take him at face value when he says he will take care of you. Bill doesn’t have it in him to let the fight go if he believes someone has been wronged and deserves defense and compensation, this is where you will experience his tenacity. What sets Bill Gilbert apart from all the rest, is the fact he has an immense about of empathy and compassion for his clients. He takes in every consideration of your experience and supports you accordingly. There is a reason why he is accomplished and comes with so many accreditations. Mr Tim and everyone at this law firm has been amazing and professional. They have an eye for things I had no idea were very important. They are also the only law firm to ever help me, as I am someone diagnosed with Autism. Most law firms I have spoken with have shooed me away due to my Autism but not this law firm. I realize not everyone will have the same experience I have had with Emery Reddy but I recommend to give them a chance and to have everything ready when you talk to them.

The exceptional service and support we received from Matthew Luedke with Moulton Law Offices have spurred me to write and thank him for all he did for our family in settling our father’s estate. Matthew was unfailingly skilled and patient through what was a challenging time for us. He was available, knowledgeable and professional throughout the ups and downs of this new experience of being executor of an estate. No matter what the challenges along the way, and there were many, he navigated all of them on our behalf with outstanding expertise. I had some personal issues with a personal legal matter regarding a toxic tort claim that's pending in Piercecounty courts. Cliff is a competent, caring and respectful attorney who cares for his community and clients. I could tell by the time he took into investigating, reviewing and listening to my concerns of my legal matter. I appreciate the time he spent with me on the phone, going over my concerns of my case and even though he could not take the case he highly recommended several other law firms. and attorneys that he knew.Thank you sir, you are very valuable to me and our community.

I sent this attorney an email one week ago. I waited several days and did not receive a response. I then emailed him directly through his firm's website and did not receive a response from him or from a representative of his firm. I understand that he could be busy or not taking new clients, but it would have been courteous and sensitive of him to at least briefly email me and explain so - and perhaps offer a referral to someone who could help me.

Being a Seattle native and having lived in Seattle for many years prior to relocating, my career as a professional manager and business consultant put me in direct contact and dealings with numerous attorneys. Mike Longyear stands out among them as one of the most caring and compassionate attorneys with whom I have dealt. Mr. Longyear is an individual who puts a great deal of thoughtful consideration into the decision making processes that affect his clients. He treats his clients with kindness and respect, which I can say is rare in the legal community. He is extremely knowledgeable and takes the time to share that knowledge with not only his clients but his colleagues as well. I have recommended him to several friends that need legal services in the Seattle area and will continue to do so.

He went above and beyond to make sure that I was taken care of, and had no problem standing up to the other party's insurance company and their attorney. When I think of my time with Cindy Wysocki, Esq., tears of deep gratitude literally come to my eyes as I recall her strength and gentleness, her humor and sharp critical thinking, her willingness to get into the ultimate fighting cage we call the judicial system and her reluctance to throw a punch, and her commitment to fairness and open-hearted compassion. To the lawyer or firm across the virtual table, Cindy must seem formidable and relentless. To me as her client-friend, she was comforting, encouraging, and grounding. I never had to yield my voice or stuff down my questions. AND, Cindy held my concerns and fears, my heightened emotions and (sometimes) clear intuitive insights respectfully while guiding them in positive, productive ways. And best of all, Cindy knew me well enough at the end of a grueling process to be able to then assist and guide me in my needs to safeguard my estate and financial assets to be sure to leave them secure for the ones I love the most. Above all, I am forever grateful to Cindy for accompanying me as a caring fellow human being during one of the most devastating times of my personal life journey. She stayed by my side through unprecedented conditions, with unconditional care and concern, as one of the few who did in my life. Cindy is a legal Bodhisattva!!

I originally was frustrated with the whole process, even though I had paid into Social Security for 20 + years. They make it hard and frustrating. The staff at Gravis Law re opened my case with my girlfriend at the time. I honestly had given up. In the end With their help I got a favorable outcome. I can’t thank them enough. I wanted to share that the experience I had with the view ridge law- more specifiacally with the attorny Elaina T. was far from well. I had to end my session with her early and request my money back. I paid her to help me and instead she spent time telling me why I couldnt get what I wanted and defending the other party. I also found out she did not read all the paperwork I sent in which she claimed was irrelevant to the case which was entirely unture. I was shocked at the lack of professionalism and care that was given to me. Our meeting was not recorded so I was not able to prove that way she was speaking to me to her superiors. The only positive that came from this was that the office did refund me my money. I lost out on a very timely situation due to their lack of attention.

RUN DO NOT WALK as far away as you can from this place. Went to the "Free Seminar" in Bellevue. The place where the seminar is held, they charge for parking. Was not told this in advance. The place will only accept credit cards to pay for the parking. It cost $16.00 to park on a Saturday. Then after the seminar, they want $350.00 to make an appointment. This supposedly will give a discount for the appointment. Once the $350.00 is paid, you are handed a packet that needs to be filled out by the time of the appointment. which is fine, but then at the appointment, they want ALL of the rest of the monies, depending on which package you choose. The cheapest is $6,900.00, then next is $12,950.00 and the last is $17,500.00. Also on the cover letter of the packet, there are 3 other locations listed. When asked about that at the appointment, they acted like they did not know that that paper is still being used. Also made them aware of having to pay for parking. Was told that they were not going to use that place in Bellevue again. YET... got an email today listing the next "Free Seminars", and the Bellevue location is still listed!!!!! At the time of your appointment, if you can't pay the whole amount they will pressure you into paying what ever you can and then pay the rest at the next appointment. Thank goodness to some very good sound advice from some very good friends, am no longer going to do business with this company. Like the friend said, if they are having to hold seminars to get clients, there is something WRONG!!!!!! Wish I had read the reviews before I went to the seminar.

We hired this firm twice this year, to assist with a house purchase. This firm is in network with the legal plan associated with our employee benefits. I found the whole process very easy. Never have been addressed formally as ‘mister’ so much, and I think I like it. The lawyers and other staff were responsive and competent and patient with our many questions. They worked well with our real estate agent. Why would someone not want to hire a lawyer to help us navigate the biggest purchase of our lives? Five stars. Review updated 11/2022: We have continued to use this attorney office, this time for estate planning, last will and testament, etc. I have been very happy with them. As a xennial, my generation tends to not use lawyers much, but these folks make it super easy.

An elder law lawyer specializes in legal issues that affect older adults, their families, and caregivers. These lawyers handle a broad range of topics, including estate planning, Medicaid and Medicare, long-term care planning, guardianship, elder abuse, and retirement planning. The goal of an elder law lawyer is to protect the rights, finances, and well-being of elderly individuals and to help them plan for future healthcare and financial security.

If you or a loved one is aging and facing challenges related to healthcare, finances, or legal matters, an elder law lawyer can provide essential guidance to protect your rights and interests as you age.

When Should I Hire an Elder Law Lawyer?

Hiring an elder law lawyer can be beneficial in many situations where older adults need help with legal, financial, or healthcare-related decisions. Common reasons to hire an elder law lawyer include:

  • Estate planning: If you want to create or update a will, set up trusts, or ensure that your assets are distributed according to your wishes, an elder law lawyer can help with comprehensive estate planning.
  • Medicaid and Medicare planning: If you need help qualifying for Medicaid to cover long-term care or need advice on navigating Medicare benefits, a lawyer can guide you through the application process and protect your assets.
  • Long-term care planning: If you’re concerned about paying for nursing home care or assisted living, a lawyer can help you create a financial plan and explore options for government assistance.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: If a family member is unable to make decisions due to age-related cognitive issues, an elder law lawyer can assist in setting up legal guardianship or conservatorship to ensure their care.
  • Elder abuse and exploitation: If you or a loved one is experiencing physical, emotional, or financial abuse, an elder law lawyer can help you take legal action to stop the abuse and recover damages.
  • Retirement planning: Elder law lawyers can assist with planning for retirement, including managing pensions, Social Security, and other retirement income.
  • Special needs planning: If you have a disabled family member who requires special care, an elder law lawyer can help create trusts or other legal arrangements to ensure their long-term financial and healthcare needs are met.

What Does an Elder Law Lawyer Do?

An elder law lawyer provides a wide range of legal services to help older adults and their families navigate the complexities of aging, healthcare, and estate planning. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Drafting wills and trusts: Creating legal documents that outline how an individual’s assets will be distributed after death, ensuring that their wishes are honored.
  • Medicaid and Medicare planning: Helping clients protect their assets while qualifying for government benefits to cover healthcare and long-term care costs.
  • Establishing guardianships: Assisting families in setting up guardianship or conservatorship for loved ones who are unable to make decisions due to mental or physical incapacity.
  • Protecting against elder abuse: Investigating claims of elder abuse or financial exploitation and representing the victim in legal actions to stop the abuse and seek compensation.
  • Planning for long-term care: Developing strategies to cover the costs of nursing homes, assisted living, and other long-term care options without exhausting the elder’s financial resources.
  • Managing probate and estate administration: Guiding families through the probate process to ensure that the decedent’s assets are distributed according to the law and their wishes.
  • Setting up advance directives: Helping clients establish healthcare directives and powers of attorney to ensure their medical and financial decisions are carried out if they become incapacitated.

How Are Elder Law Lawyers Paid?

Elder law lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the type of legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many elder law lawyers charge by the hour, especially for tasks such as drafting documents, handling legal disputes, or providing ongoing legal advice. Hourly rates typically range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For specific tasks, such as drafting a will or setting up a trust, some lawyers charge a flat fee. This can range from $500 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the estate plan.
  • Retainer: For long-term legal representation, such as managing a trust or handling guardianship matters, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers future legal work.
  • Contingency fee: In some elder abuse or financial exploitation cases, a lawyer may work on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if they recover compensation for the client. This fee is typically a percentage of the settlement or damages awarded.

Be sure to discuss fees with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand how you will be billed and what the total cost of services might be.

How Much Does an Elder Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an elder law lawyer varies depending on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the fee structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Simple estate planning: Drafting basic documents, such as a will or power of attorney, may cost between $500 and $2,000, depending on the complexity of the client’s assets and wishes.
  • Complex estate planning: Setting up more advanced estate plans, such as revocable or irrevocable trusts, Medicaid planning, or special needs trusts, can range from $2,000 to $10,000 or more.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: Legal fees for setting up guardianship or conservatorship often range from $2,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case and whether disputes arise.
  • Medicaid planning: Legal fees for Medicaid planning can range from $1,500 to $10,000, depending on the level of asset protection needed and the complexity of the individual’s financial situation.

Always ask for an estimate of fees during your initial consultation to ensure you understand how much the legal services will cost.

Top Questions to Ask an Elder Law Lawyer

Before hiring an elder law lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise needed to handle your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with elder law cases?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's estate planning, Medicaid applications, or elder abuse claims.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or a retainer, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the best approach for my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your situation and what legal strategies the lawyer recommends.
  4. How long will the process take?
Whether it’s drafting an estate plan or setting up a guardianship, ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to take.
  5. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of the case. Make sure you know who will be working on your case directly.
  6. What documents should I bring to the consultation?
Ask the lawyer what documentation or information you should prepare for your consultation, such as medical records, financial statements, or prior legal documents.

How to Check the Credibility of an Elder Law Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable elder law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Check their bar status: Verify with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for elder law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in elder law and have experience with cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on elder law issues.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications or affiliations with organizations such as the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), which can indicate the lawyer’s dedication to elder law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with an elder law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Existing estate planning documents: If you have a will, trust, or power of attorney in place, bring copies for the lawyer to review.
  • Financial records: Provide details of your assets, including bank accounts, investments, real estate, and retirement accounts, as well as any debts.
