I have used the services of Rich Peters and his colleagues for approximately 18 years. He has (1) secured my legal separation and 18 years later the dissolution of the marriage; (2) successfully defended my stepdaughter in a child custody dispute; and (3) set up a legal guardianship for our granddaughter. In all of these cases, he delivered the results that I expected with professionalism and care. He is a good communicator who gave sound legal advice and explanations of what to expect in the execution of these cases. I hope I do not need any future family-related legal services, but if I do, I know who to contact.

rich peters and his team never fought for me or my family - in fact they were supposed to register a family court order in arizona and never did but still kept collecting my money while arizona NEVER had jurisdiction- a couple of attorneys failed to keep my family safe but the last one Sophia realllllly messed up by not adequately protecting my address from my abuser and stalker - an address that was never meant to be handed over to him - she allowed the judge to mistreat me and did not represent me at all. i even told her things were not being handled properly and she assured me she could do better - she did not. Rich peters has ignored my emails for MONTHS now but still has no problem demanding payment - a payment i will never send - i believe i am owed my money back in FULL - now that you are back in the country mr peters i do expect a reply

I cannot begin to thank this firm enough for excellent representation in my divorce. They are caring, compassionate, capable, and professional, while not charging and arm and a leg for their services. We were able to work amicably with the attorney on the other Sid and get our divorce settled as painlessly as possible in this situation. It was very evident that they care very deeply about their clients. Thank you again!

Not a good lawyer. My response: I understand what you are saying. I understand how the law works. My review is based on morals and common respect, in which I felt lacked from Dori. While her team was friendly, she could not act the least bit interested in anything not pertaining to her. The amount of money she “took” and how minimum she did, …..or rather didn’t do—-made it impossible to ignore the injustice. It also made me see how easy representing yourself is, which I did -& won. So for this is the sole reason, I stand with my review. Thank you for replying.

Carrie Cravatta is unethical, lazy, will show up to appointments unprepared, cares more about discussing her vacations (European vacations, cruises) than discussing your case. She will take your money, tell you all the things she will do, ultimately not doing them leaving you wondering what it is she did. Run away, this woman is a wrecking ball and will make your life worse off. Follow up. Per the request of Carrie’s partners I reached out to discuss my concerns and the basis for my negative review. We spoke for roughly an hour and a half (lots to discuss!) That was weeks ago we spoke, appears the call was nothing more than a dog and pony show, I have heard nothing further, this law group likely continues their unethical, lazy, criminal like activities. Carrie’s partners should fire her so they don’t wreck what the partners are building, it shows a lot about this group that she is still employed and a partner.

If you are hoping that your attorney will be in the same room with you for your court dates and trials, think again. They video call in, usually late. Then they do NOT put on their video and it makes it pretty awkward especially for me as his client. The last time the judge was yelling at me to get my attorney on the line.... If you want to win, first get a second opinion besides these guys. If you want to save money and go with a discount firm, they get you in with a low retainer but they charge you more then the big firms do by all their little tactics to get you to spend crazy amounts of money.

After a car failed to yield to the right of way and my fiancé (now wife) and I had the misfortune of attempting to occupy the same space as the misguided driver it was at that point we were in need of representation. Ben and his assistant, Kaci, were incredibly helpful in informing us of how to proceed with the best care with a detailed road map of what needed to happen from the legal side of things. Once the initial detailed forms were completed we were given the opportunity to heal in relative peace. The updates and constant professionalism alleviated additional stress that would have otherwise been our burden to carry against the vehicles owner’s insurance company. I don’t think there can ever be a full recovery from such incidents as there are so many intangible aspects of the accident that get glossed over. What was nice is that those aspects of the case were listened to and were incorporated as best as legally possible. I felt heard, I felt cared about, and I felt supported throughout the process. The amount of detailed information and direction from the beginning gave a tremendous amount of confidence moving forward. This made an unfortunate situation into the best possible scenario possible and for that I am extremely grateful to Ben and his team.

I didn't know this was such a powerhouse of a law firm until after I retained them to handle my divorce. The thing I liked best about dealing with them was they always treated me like a person, not just an account or client. The entire staff is that way. I especially enjoyed meeting with Mr. Goldstein because he was very understanding and compassionate. Regardless of how bleak I thought my situation was, I felt reassured and confident after meeting with him. During the process of my divorce I also learned that G&S worked in many other legal disciplines including wills, trusts and estate matters, Immigration, and criminal law. The attorneys assigned to my case handled all of it competently and professionally. In addition to handling family law, one of them had been a prosecutor, another was well versed in immigration. About the only thing they don't handle is real estate. I highly recommend this firm. Regardless of the type of legal matter, if it's handled by Goldstein & Scopellite I don't think you can retain anyone better.

I hired "Goldstein and Scopellite" about two years ago to take over as counsel in a complex litigation matter that was not going favorably. The case involved four attorneys and had many parties. When they took over the case, they were able to quickly review the lengthy file, develop a strategy to fix initial issues that were critical, and then develop a long-term strategy to win the case, which never would have happened if I had not hired them. Mr. Goldstein and Ms. Scopellite, the partners of the firm, are professional lawyers who actually care about your case, just like they say they do on their website. They were attentive, personable, and helped me to understand the process much better than I did before hiring them. I would highly recommend using this law firm and their services if you have an on-going case that is not going well. They can help turn things completely around. I would also recommend hiring them for any new legal matter; I wish I had hired them in the first place.

I hired Ann after I was in a car accident. She was so professional, knowledgeable and true advocate. As a working mom I didn't have the time nor the energy to navigate the process with insurance claims, bills, etc. She handled everything and went out of her way to check in, give me updates and inquire how I was physically doing. She advocated to get all my medicals paid by the insurance company of the at fault driver and got me a settlement I feel I would have not received without her. I highly recommend her!

Even though buried up to their eyeballs with work they still take the time to ensure they respond and help as much as they can. THAT WAS THEN, this is now....huge letdown! Say one thing, then completely ignore calls, emails and in person visits. Really need to say what they mean rather than lie repeatedly to you and waste your time while you wait for a call back. Definitely need to follow through with a formal complaint. Truly sad that an outfit that deals with people in trauma has the audacity to further knock a victim down.

Over a protracted and difficult period of time, Danette proved to provide rock solid advice, advance legal strategy, and valuable and fair feedback. After researching the majority of lawyers available that practiced family law in Tucson, I selected Danette based on numerous factors. She had case specific experience in areas involving behaviors of questionable legal standing by opposing counsel and their client, as well as complex support through a religious organization geared solely towards extracting monies for the benefit of their group. Essentially, Danette had odds stacked against her. She successfully maneuvered the case through the system, with patience and care, all while managing expectations in a clear and concise manner. The outcome was favorable. I’m grateful for her help, and very satisfied with her capabilities and professionalism.

Ms. Pahl was my opposing attorney. I initially consulted her on my ex husbands behalf. Eventually I hired my own attorney. She frequently came to court unprepared and requested numerous continuances causing the divorce to run nearly five years. What was most disconcerting is that she lied three times to the Judge while the evidence countering her claims were part of the exhibits. She has a knack for changing course which led to more new pleas, continuances and then later she would remove said requests. Her peers describe her tactics as "throwing everything against the wall, right or wrong, then seeing what sticks". Her services will cost a lot of money with very little results.

I have worked with Danette for many years (sadly), first for my divorce, and then for ongoing child custody issues with a difficult Ex. Danette has been extraordinarily professional and has guided me through the maze of family law. My case was complicated and it was clear from the beginning that Danette had the best interests of my children in mind. I felt confident working with Danette, despite the emotional trauma of divorce. I have recommended her to several friends and would not hesitate to recommend her services again. If you are involved in a divorce situation, with kids and don't know where to go, call Danette.

I have used Glenn for a few years ... yes, years. I am a single father to an only child and my ex and I have equal custody; but as these things go, as she has aged and life has become more about power and control (and gasp, money), I found myself increasingly defending myself against frivolous claims ... not wanting to lawyer-up for simple paperwork, I'd prepare all of my own documents and then use the one-hour consulting offer from Glenn to make sure I wasn't going to make a bad mistake. After a couple of years, and dealing with an onslaught of legal filings, I bit the bullet and decided to go the "retainer" route with Glenn and his practice ... figured it was worth the cost to make all of the aggravation and emotions someone else's problem. It was well worth it as I was able to relax knowing I had someone very professional, experienced and competent taking care of everything for me ... I can't say I "won" but I certainly didn't lose and my life (and my child's) are so much better with all of this behind us ... and all of this is because I trusted Glenn and his firm. We have two more years until my child turns 18, and while I hope I never have to see Glenn again, I won't hesitate retaining him again if ever I find the need!

Mr. Collins has handled my parents trust for many years. It has had to be amended a couple times for the following reasons: first my father died, then my mother wanted to give me a more of the remaining assets after she died because she has given my brother $400,000. Ironically, that last amendment disappeared. Mr. Collins is and was aware of the fact that my brother continues to take advantage of my mom who is now in advanced dementia, including taking over half her monthly income and getting her to take out a reverse mortgage after I had got her all approved on a regular home equity loan that would protect her only remaining asset (home equity). I can not believe Mr Collins did not counsel my mother against this knowing full well, my brother would deplete the remaining equity. The last time I talked to him a year ago, he berated me on the phone despite all my efforts to protect my mother. I tried calling him twice over the past year to discuss these concerns and left a message both times. No return call. I do not recommend using this attorney.

Has a "Badass Rep", she will act like she is tough & there to fight for you. That is a very overcharged ACT. She will definitely charge you a ton, and do NOTHING for the money. "Trial Fee", does not mean Trial either, and if you did do a trial & the doc then you would be in for 10,000 of thousands more for her to do little to nothing. If you want to pay an attorney to work hard for the other team, this is definitely your person. If you want to pay out the rear to ensure that you get treated like dirt, no communication, & even less empathy in a terrible situation, this is your person. If you want a manipulative human that only wants to demand what she believes, & not listen to what you want or what you desire & not stand up for you in anyway, this is your person. She is not at all timely with her responses, they can go for days or weeks without answer. She will not show for meetings that have been scheduled, and not give a reason. You will not be addressed until approximately 3 days before any of your trials or hearings, & then at that time you will be overwhelmed & rushed to get the information that is needed. Heaven help you if you don't have the additional funds, even if you have to sell your soul you better come up with the money, or else, her unqualified skills will become even less helpful to you. This lawyer ensured that walking through Hell was every bit of how it should be, the worst, and ensured you got absolutely nothing for your efforts in your family. Don't bother with the auto response, it would amount to anything anyway.

At first Michael Miller seemed to be caring, a good listener, and very reassuring about what needed to be done for what should have been a simple divorce. Unfortunately that didn't last long and after that it was very hard to find out what was going on with my divorce. I would ask questions and receive very short texts with legalized terms that I didn't understand...so of course following up with more questions cost more money. The final straw was when I found out from my ex husband that the divorce was finalized 5 days prior. When I contacted the office about this the response was almost like "oops." So if you're looking for someone who doesn't communicate and not proactive about keeping you informed about your divorce, Michael Miller is your guy.

I hired Nicole when she was at Cantor Law to complete the work on my divorce that I'd started with another law firm. She 'inherited' a difficult situation because of the ineptitude of the previous said law firm during a settlement conference. She handled all my affairs professionally, she was concise, timely and always kept me up to date with my situation. It's unfortunate that she did not handle my divorce from the beginning; had she done so I'm sure the outcome would have been much more satisfactory. I would highly recommend Nicole for any family law work.

I engaged Jensen & Gordon in 2013 to handle my divorce. I chose them from four firms I interviewed, and I've never been disappointed that I decided to go with Tracy and her team. My case would be considered challenging by most lawyers, but Tracy handled everything very professionally. She was always responsive, and would take the time to listen to what I had to say, instead of making assumptions. She always had solid advice on how to proceed and I was pleased with the outcome of my case. I have told several individuals of how pleased I was with the service that I received, and that has led to them forwarding Tracy's name on when they knew of someone also in need of a family lawyer. I would definitely recommend Jensen & Gordon for anyone going through a divorce.

I retained Jensen and Gordon in 2011 because my wife wanted a divorce and was being completely unreasonable. The community net worth was not in the millions of dollars. Bob and Tracy told me in our initial consultation what they expected would have to done to get a reasonable settlement - and Tracy did a stellar job of achieving that settlement at a reasonable cost. A further complication was that I endured a life threatening illness during the course of the proceedings but they fully accommodated me during that period. Tracy, Bob, and the entire office staff, was always aware of my situation and did an excellent job of dealing with the case in a fully professional manner. I've previously dealt with counsel on numerous occasions, in other venues, during my career and as compared to other firms, Jensen and Gordon is an excellent firm with excellent people.

Tracy will pretend to be all for you to your face and then ignore you once you leave her office. I consulted with her and she was great while I was in her office paying her consultation fee but once I called her back to ask some additional questions (which by the way she told me to do before I left) she ignored me and would not return my phone calls. I had to talk to the receptionist, who by the way is very rude and unpleasant to talk to. She bragged about a few high profile clients of the firm and apparently unless you're high profile expect to get ignored and treated very rudely.

Let me begin by saying that Andrea is the most unethical and unprofessional attorney I have met. She should be embarrassed by her lack of ethics and her desire to fuel fires and increase litigation for her own delight and to satisfy financial desires. She consistently allows clients to miss court ordered deadlines, sends threatening emails and letters to opposing counsel with no evidence or support for her false claims, and fails to review information necessary to settle a case. She comes unprepared to court meetings and settlement conferences and uses up the resources and time of the judge, mediator, and opposing party because she has not done her work prior. Andrea allows her clients to manipulate and control every situation and doesn't bother to look into the validity of what she hears. In an attempt to cover up her inability to get clients to cooperate with deadlines, she wastes time and resources by repeatedly asking for things that were previously given to her. Her office is unorganized and creates a mess for anyone working with her. Her work ethic and inability to stay neutral and settle a case is despicable.

I had already had a consultation with Ms. Lawrence and she knew my case. My husband got violent with me. I called her from work hysterical. She helped me get an order of protection immediately. She rearranged her schedule and met me at the court and stayed with me until my family could make arrangements to help me leave the house safely with my children.

Mrs. Lawrence was everything I needed and more. She was experienced and to the point. She and her assistant kept me up to date and informed of what to expect and what was happening during my divorce. She was understanding and listened when I needed to talk. She fought for my children and my best interests. Mrs. Lawrence also was real with me. If I was trying to ask for something unrealistic she told me the odds or what she would recommend but she let me be in charge of how I wanted to pursue my divorce. I am very grateful to Mrs. Lawrence and her firm. She did not run up a huge unnecessary bill for me and kept me out of court as much as possible so I did not miss work and was able to be with my 2 young boys who needed me during this unnerving time in our lives. I am very satisfied with my divorce. I would use her in the future and would highly recommend her. Divorce is something very hard to do - I was not alone with her.

I think it says it all in my title. I was given this law firms name by a legal service I have through my employer. Left voicemail and sent email regarding the issue I am having and need legal guidance on. I never heard anything from anyone from the office, even if it would be just to tell me they couldn't help. Waited over 2 weeks for a response and nothing.

Atty Zachary Spanier has been very patient with our case. He made us feel safe and secure by staying calm and being there whenever we needed him. It has been a pleasant, calming, and reassuring experience with Atty Zac. If we were to choose another law firm, we have no doubt choosing Harlow Spanier & Heckele Law firm.

Mr. Spanier took my case on under the program for people who qualified for lower legal fees. He genuinely seemed to care and did everything he could to help me fight against the prosecutor. He was always quick at answering my emails and phone calls, as well as answer any questions I had. He explained all my options and provided his advice. He was able to get me diversion, which was what I wanted. I would highly recommend him.

This alleged atty filed a false death claim on my son. After months of providing proof of my son #1 being married, #2 having a child, son's divorce decree, and copies of the above, he illegally gave those to his client, ROLAND H DECESARE All correspondence was labeled private, do NOT disburse, for official/legal us only. My son's ex wife was notified by a JAG, judge advocate general, she had a law suit, she denied prosecution of this alleged member of the AZ bar. Both my son and his ex wife, United States Marines. TOTAL disrespect for the military and their families. When asked, who filed the death claim, he told me that Dan's sister, Michelle and and her husband, Matthew Robinson, also a United States Marine. We did nothing to endanger his military career. Now that Matthew is retired, future clients need to be warned of his alleged if not illegal, and unprofessional behavior. Especially of the military and military families.

My experience with Ms. Reynolds was completely a fairytale. She promised to do several things for my case, and consumed a lot of my time and resources waiting for her to complete fulfill her promises. Some as simple as sending an email. In the end, she did nothing she promised delaying my ability to find an honest, ethical and morally sound an attorney. Save yourself time and resources and stay away from het.

Prior to contacting Mr. Reynolds, I tried to contact a few other attorneys. They would not give me the time of day on a issue, probably minor to them, evidently, but important to me. Ms. Reynolds took the time to listen and respond promptly. Not only was she professional but it also showed that she has a great heart. I will have no hesitation in recommending Ms. Reynolds to anyone seeking legal help in her area of specialization.

The main reason I hired Mr. Reyna was due to his reputation in the court room. My close friend went up against him . She stated she would have won with an attorney like him. Her recommendation came from the loosing side. For this reason we hired him. Not only does he pay close attention to what you are requesting but teach you why things can or cannot be done allowing you the same comfort he has in the case. This is huge for people fighting for their family to know an attorney wants what is best for you and not your money goes a long way. My friend and I call him the Pit bull of law. He is aggressive and fights clean, abides by the rules, but is detailed and backs himself with evidence and sound reason. Defiantly recommend him to anyone.

What a Family Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A family law lawyer provides legal services related to family relationships, including marriage, divorce, child custody, and adoption. Family lawyers help clients navigate emotionally charged legal issues, providing guidance and representation in disputes that affect spouses, children, and parents. Whether you're going through a divorce, seeking custody of your children, or drafting a prenuptial agreement, a family law lawyer ensures your rights are protected and your interests are represented.

Family law attorneys often handle sensitive matters and offer objective legal advice, helping clients reach fair outcomes either through negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

When Should I Hire a Family Law Lawyer?

Hiring a family law lawyer is beneficial in several situations, especially when legal matters involve close personal relationships. Common reasons to hire a family law lawyer include:

  • Divorce or separation: When ending a marriage, a lawyer can help you navigate issues such as division of assets, spousal support, and child custody arrangements.
  • Child custody and visitation disputes: If you and your co-parent can't agree on custody or visitation, a lawyer can represent your interests and work toward a solution that benefits your children.
  • Child support: Whether you’re seeking child support or defending against a claim, a lawyer can help ensure the appropriate amount is calculated and enforced.
  • Prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: A lawyer can help draft or review agreements that protect your assets in case of divorce.
  • Adoption: Family law lawyers guide you through the legal process of adoption, ensuring that all requirements are met.
  • Domestic violence or restraining orders: If you're a victim of domestic violence or being falsely accused, a lawyer can help you obtain or challenge protective orders.
  • Paternity cases: If there are questions about the paternity of a child, a lawyer can help establish or dispute legal fatherhood.

Hiring a lawyer early can prevent issues from escalating, and they can offer you the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome in emotionally charged situations.

What Does a Family Law Lawyer Do?

A family law lawyer provides a wide range of services depending on your specific legal needs. Their responsibilities may include:

  • Advising on legal rights and options: Helping you understand your legal rights regarding divorce, child custody, support, and other family law issues.
  • Filing legal documents: Drafting and filing petitions, motions, and agreements with the court, such as divorce papers, custody agreements, or support orders.
  • Representing clients in court: Arguing your case in front of a judge if a settlement can’t be reached through negotiation or mediation.
  • Mediation and negotiation: Assisting with alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation, to reach agreements on issues like custody, property division, and support without going to trial.
  • Enforcing court orders: Helping you enforce court orders related to child support, alimony, or custody if the other party fails to comply.
  • Drafting prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: Creating agreements that protect your assets in the event of a divorce.
  • Handling adoption proceedings: Ensuring that the legal process of adoption is followed, from filing paperwork to finalizing the adoption in court.

How Are Family Law Lawyers Paid?

Family law lawyers typically charge clients in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Most family lawyers charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and location. Clients are billed for the time spent working on their case, including consultations, court appearances, and document preparation.
  • Flat fees: For more straightforward legal services, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, some lawyers offer flat-fee arrangements.
  • Retainer fees: In cases that are expected to require significant time and attention, such as contentious custody battles, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers the initial costs of legal services. The lawyer then bills against the retainer as they work on your case.

The exact cost will depend on the complexity of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure, which should be discussed upfront.

How Much Does a Family Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a family law lawyer varies based on factors such as the lawyer's experience, the location, and the complexity of your case. Here are some general cost guidelines:

  • Hourly rates: Family law lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Retainers: For more complex matters, such as contested divorces or custody battles, lawyers may charge a retainer ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 or more. The lawyer will bill against the retainer for the work they do on your case.
  • Additional costs: You may also be responsible for additional costs, such as filing fees, mediation fees, or expert witness fees.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of the lawyer’s fees and any additional expenses during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Family Law Lawyer

Before hiring a family law lawyer, it's important to ask questions to ensure they're the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with family law cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's a contested divorce, child custody dispute, or adoption.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or requires a retainer. Ask for an estimate of the total costs involved.
  3. What are the possible outcomes of my case?
An experienced lawyer should be able to give you a general idea of what to expect based on the facts of your case.
  4. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Ask whether the lawyer tends to favor negotiation and mediation or whether they prefer to take cases to court. This can help you determine if their style matches your goals.
  5. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it’s difficult to predict, the lawyer should give you an estimate based on similar cases.
  6. Who will be handling my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may do much of the work, so make sure you understand who will be your main point of contact.

How to Check the Credibility of a Family Law Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable family law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and is in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on websites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell. Previous clients can give you insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and success in family law cases.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer for references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Review their website or professional profile: Look at the lawyer’s background, case history, and areas of focus to ensure they have substantial experience in family law.
  • Look for professional memberships: Membership in reputable organizations, such as the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), can indicate a lawyer's expertise and dedication to family law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a family law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Relevant documents: Bring any documents related to your case, such as marriage certificates, prenuptial agreements, financial records, custody agreements, or court orders.
  • List of assets and debts: For divorce cases, prepare a detailed list of all assets (e.g., homes, bank accounts, retirement funds) and debts (e.g., mortgages, loans, credit card balances).
  • Details of the family issue: Provide a written summary of the situation, including key dates and facts related to your divorce, custody dispute, or support issue.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • Your goals: Be prepared to discuss your objectives, such as custody arrangements, property division, or spousal support, so the lawyer understands your priorities.

Being organized and clear about your situation will help the lawyer evaluate your case more effectively and offer the best advice for moving forward.
