I was connected to Alex Moskovic through an Employer referral service at my work. I hired him regarding a no contact staking order against a former employee who harassed me and my family electronically and exerted multiple threats. This was an emotionally very draining time. In short, Alex helped me to obtain a 2 year plenary order by agreement, a rare achievement thanks to his great knowledge of the law. With the order in place I feel protected from the harasser and can continue living my life. As someone who never faced any legal situation, Alex guided me through the process and was available to talk when I needed him. He calmly answered all my questions and explained happenings in court, their implications and next steps in a way I could understand, which was important to me. Alex also multiple times provided his professional opinion on a parallel criminal case against the same individual that was ongoing. With his dedication, I wish Alex could have represented me in this case too. Overall, I’m very happy with Alex service and will recommend him to anyone seeking representation for an order of protection. I hope I will never need such legal services again, but if I do I will surely get back to Moskovic Law!

Alex was my attorney handling my post-divorce action for college expenses. It was a very difficult situation with an uncooperative co-parent and unorthodox opposing attorney. I was very happy with how Alex handled my ex and his attorney. He was always responsive to me and knowledgeable about the law, the judge and provided excellent advice to get the matter settled. He understood my case and what my goals were. He knew when to 'play hardball' and when to tell me to make concessions. I highly recommend Alex to anyone. He is a great attorney.

Alex Moskovic - Moskovic Law is by far the best, well prepared, meticulous, experienced lawyer I have ever had. To support my statement I will tell you why I feel this way... My legal needs started in Florida when I was going through a high conflict divorce. I had two lawyers in Florida before moving back to Illinois where I needed to basically go through the mediation and divorce process all over again in order to transfer my child support guidelines and parenting plan to the state of illinois where my Ex and children relocated to and I moved to to be closer to my kids. Going through this process again (Mediation, Parenting Plan changes, etc) was extremely stressful initially beacuse I feared it wouldn't go well, as that was my experience in Florida. I soon realized because of Alex's experience, care, and insightful and timely communication, this go round was going to be different for me. I felt hamstrung somewhat, due to my actions in the past and the previous outcomes of emergency motions, relocation hearing, awarded child sharing time previously, etc, that things would not work out in my favor again. That was not the case this time around. I had made changes in my life to better myself as a person, however in the legal field / court room the past will always resurface. Mr. Moskovic has exceptional skill in the divorce / Family Law field. Wether it be his attention to detail, timely response to client communications, ability to work through tense and sometimes high conflict situations with my EX and her counsel, Alex is top notch, well prepared, and did not let anything slip through the cracks. He literally helped me achieve what i thought may not be possible, additional time with my kids without the unnecessary drawn out legal fight. These processes are never a walk in the park. But I honestly feel with Alex Moskovic - Moskovic Law at my side supporting me, fighting for my rights as a parent, I gained back what I missed so much, time with my kids. I am forever grateful for what he has done and will continue to retain Mr. Moskovic for all my Family Law needs as long as he is practicing. S.C. Wenzel

It was a pleasure to work with our attorney Alex Moskovic to help resolve an issue that needed a professional. Alex was always very thorough and professional during the legal process. He was able to resolve the conflict and we were very happy with the outcome. I would certainly contact Alex if we ever needed professional assistance again.

I have known Wendy for 20 years now and have retained her twice in 2 different cases. Both times Wendy has been impeccable, thorough, and a fighter for me and the rights of my children. She knows the law in and out and will fight for you with all she is. Professional is an understatement when it comes to Wendy and her staff. I have referred friends/family to her and she has given the same impeccable results for them as well . I personally strongly recommend Wendy Morgan as I am confident she will fight for you as she has for me !!!!!!

I recently was pulled over for driving on a revoked license & no seat belt in Lake County. While on probation. I was absolutely sick to my stomach & Affraid. I called a good friend of mine and explained what happened to me. He told me to call Paul. So i did. When Paul answered and spoke to me. I was instantly relieved. His demeanor proffesional manner & knowledge was like no other lawyer i have used before. We went to court on the first appearance. He showed how great he trully is. He got the seat belt ticket thrown out. He got my driving on revoked reduced down. Probation terminated and a meger fine with supervision. . I really thought i was going to jail. Witch was Scary & Financially devestating to my family. But thanks to some good advice from a friend and a true pro like Paul. Things worked out well. If i remember correctly during my first phone conversation with Paul he reassured me that it would. God Bless You Paul. Million Stars. Bryan Edmiston People please do your mental health a favor and pick up the phone and call this man. Paul will put you at ease.

YES!! you should hire Paul B. Wharton as your attorney… With cases ranging from Personal injury, Divorce and Criminal, I felt good it was a good fit. I was treated with the utmost respect, pure professionalism, prompt follow up, and a wealth of experience behind him… 33 years to be exact. Paul made a difficult and stressful time more manageable…a sigh of relief in knowing I was in good hands.

Mr. Wharton is a man I can’t thank enough! Today he made a miracle happen and I’m blessed to come across a lawyer who is as knowledgeable as he is. I contacted Mr. Wharton to represent me for multiple traffic violations including a speeding ticket for 120mph+. With a driving abstract like mine, I didn’t have much hope of the outcome, but Mr. Wharton managed to make magic happen! If there’s a will, there’s a way and Mr. Wharton does what it takes to get the job done! I will forever recommend Paul Wharton for what he has done for me.

She’s very honest about what’s possible, and remembers even the smallest of details. I have spent the past 10 years in and out of family court. The cost, stress, and difficulties of the family court system in Illinois have made life very difficult. I have been through two other attorneys prior to finding Tony. My experience with family law attorneys is they just go through the motions and have little concern for you on a personal level, not to mention in many instances they could care less that the family law system is destroying and hurting both you and your children. I recently went through yet another legal issue in family court. But this time I had Tony as my attorney. Tony does something most other attorneys don't. He listens, cares, has compassion for your situation, but most importantly knows how to navigate the family law system and fight to secure the best possible outcome in the quickest fashion. He doesn't waste your time or money and he cares about the people he fights for and their families. I am happy to say this time around I prevailed due to Tony. He handled the conflict and the system like no other attorney I have had over the past ten years. Due to his efforts we were able to defuse a situation that in the past would have cost me thousands and thousands of dollars in legal cost. My issue was resolved quickly and effectively and I felt safe and protected. Great attorney, wonderful man!

Bona represented my divorce case and she made the process as easy as a divorce possibly could be. The process can be emotionally overwhelming and gets worse if you have to struggle with attorney hassles. I got Lucky with Bona since she made the legal proceedings the last thing on my mind to worry about. She was always available to talk to or write to, had the right answers and Never misguided or misrepresented any information. I always felt being with the right advisor and a legal representative.

I consulted with Miss Doci for my divorce and frankly I wasn't sure whether I should hire her because she is young. You hear horror stories about the divorce process and the lawyers taking advantage of your situation. Dont let her young age fool you though. She is a very positive person and very professional. I was quite impressed. We consulted, I hired her, she kept me in the loop and was very understanding and respectful of my requirements. I couldn't have asked for a better person to represent me. She contacted me a few days before the divorce to let me know the procedure of the divorce in the courtroom and assure me that everything was going to be okay. She was right because everything went smooth. I definitely made the right choice hiring her.

I should have guess based on the attempt to contact the Law Office of Ronald Justin would have been the indicator of the experience that was to unfold. Once contact was finally established, and prior to hiring Ronald, he reviewed my family law case to evaluate if he had the capacity. He accepted the case, stating his plan and what could be done. All documentation was provided to him, evidence, timelines, organized and complete. That was a year ago, and there has been little no no movement on his part. I should not have to send certified mail to get an update, or a return phone call after weeks of reaching out and being met with silence, or complete disregard for my inquiries. Furthermore, as other reviews have advised, he used the excuse of a paralegal he was considering terminating because they were the cause of the ball being dropped on numerous occasions. His failure to be diligent and communicative allowed mistakes to occur in the court room, and allowing orders to go through against my wishes, because "he didn't see the email", and again blamed another party for that error. After three weeks of sending emails for updates on my case, and items he claimed more than once would be filed "soon", unreturned phone calls, and a court date he not only did not show up to, but did not communicate he would not be present for, and had another associate who I had never met, nor had any insight on my case, fill in. I issued a deadline for his response, to where I received an after hours phone call informing me he would be withdrawing from the case after, three weeks of silence. The withdraw is not the issue, as that was the plan with the expectation that his false promises of delivery wouldn't be met, further neglecting my case. It's the lack of professionalism and the lack of accountability for his consistent failure to provide legal counsel. This will result in filing a complaint with the bar, and an investigation to ensue. I would not recommend this office for anything that requires court appearances, time and accurate communication, or if the lives of your children and yourself are dependent on his performance.

All in all I was very pleased with Mr. Robert's performance in representing me to the IRS. I felt my case involved some special considerations, and at no time did i feel he took a "cookie-cutter" approach to formulating and implementing his strategy. He was also flexible when I needed him to be in handling my schedule, as on occasion unexpected demands of my workplace interfered with my preparations for the case. I found his staff professional and accommodating in working with me. In summary, the results his office achieved exceeded my expectations.

I found myself in a terrible situation a few years ago and Scott took my case. I felt helpless and didn't know what to do. I hadn't done anything wrong, but found myself fighting an uphill battle that had torn my life apart. Scott isn't the type of attorney to just tell you what you want to hear. He's realistic about what outcomes you can hope for and what outcomes you should expect. He's kind, compassionate, makes time for his clients, and is open to your ideas. But most importantly, he will fight for you because he actually cares and he knows that the job he does can be make it or break it when it comes to clients' lives. If it weren't for Scott, I wouldn't have the most important part of my life and be in the place I am today. I'm only disappointed in the fact that I can't leave more than five stars and that it took me this long to leave a review, because there is no one I would recommend more than Scott.

The state of Nebraska is NOT exempt of the 26th amendment you moron!! You may join the military and rightfully vote at the age of 18 here... HOWEVER, as one of THREE states, a child is NOT a legal adult until the age of 19 and CANNOT leave the parents home until then, unless the parents grant permission. An absent father is legally responsible for paying child support until the child is NINETEEN!!

Non responsive, complete lack of organizational skills, total disregard to clients needs and requests. I retained this lawyer for a year and not one single thing was accomplished. I made them fully aware of what was taking place with an attorney in their firm to no avail.

I hired this man to represent me. It was horrifying. In addition to losing my original file when he RETIRED AND CLOSED HIS CHICAGO office. As a lawyer who has tried hundreds of cases, I question whether he ever tried one. He has no idea how to question/qualify an expert, get a business record admitted, or know enough to ask for a basis for the ruling. Crosses witnesses as far from you as he can so you cannot comment or REMIND HIM of the actual evidence. And do it 1 shame on me. Do it 3 times after you were asked not to and it smells. You will be forced as I was, to settle and alot of people will suffer. The field is saturated. You can do so much better. I won't even practice anymore. He gives us the bad names I now understand.

My husband is about 10k into this lawyer for a child support/college tuition issue with his kids. Going on since December 2023. The only thing he has to show for the 10k he has paid out is a document with possible terms for settlement, but no actual settlement. When my husband questioned him on the expense and lack of anything being done, no court date, nothing, he just quit on him and said he wouldn’t handle the case anymore. It seems like he is stretching this out just to be able to bill more. Now, he has no attorney, and he will have to go to court on his own. There has to be better attorneys out there, so please think about it before hiring this one.

What a Family Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A family law lawyer provides legal services related to family relationships, including marriage, divorce, child custody, and adoption. Family lawyers help clients navigate emotionally charged legal issues, providing guidance and representation in disputes that affect spouses, children, and parents. Whether you're going through a divorce, seeking custody of your children, or drafting a prenuptial agreement, a family law lawyer ensures your rights are protected and your interests are represented.

Family law attorneys often handle sensitive matters and offer objective legal advice, helping clients reach fair outcomes either through negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

When Should I Hire a Family Law Lawyer?

Hiring a family law lawyer is beneficial in several situations, especially when legal matters involve close personal relationships. Common reasons to hire a family law lawyer include:

  • Divorce or separation: When ending a marriage, a lawyer can help you navigate issues such as division of assets, spousal support, and child custody arrangements.
  • Child custody and visitation disputes: If you and your co-parent can't agree on custody or visitation, a lawyer can represent your interests and work toward a solution that benefits your children.
  • Child support: Whether you’re seeking child support or defending against a claim, a lawyer can help ensure the appropriate amount is calculated and enforced.
  • Prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: A lawyer can help draft or review agreements that protect your assets in case of divorce.
  • Adoption: Family law lawyers guide you through the legal process of adoption, ensuring that all requirements are met.
  • Domestic violence or restraining orders: If you're a victim of domestic violence or being falsely accused, a lawyer can help you obtain or challenge protective orders.
  • Paternity cases: If there are questions about the paternity of a child, a lawyer can help establish or dispute legal fatherhood.

Hiring a lawyer early can prevent issues from escalating, and they can offer you the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome in emotionally charged situations.

What Does a Family Law Lawyer Do?

A family law lawyer provides a wide range of services depending on your specific legal needs. Their responsibilities may include:

  • Advising on legal rights and options: Helping you understand your legal rights regarding divorce, child custody, support, and other family law issues.
  • Filing legal documents: Drafting and filing petitions, motions, and agreements with the court, such as divorce papers, custody agreements, or support orders.
  • Representing clients in court: Arguing your case in front of a judge if a settlement can’t be reached through negotiation or mediation.
  • Mediation and negotiation: Assisting with alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation, to reach agreements on issues like custody, property division, and support without going to trial.
  • Enforcing court orders: Helping you enforce court orders related to child support, alimony, or custody if the other party fails to comply.
  • Drafting prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: Creating agreements that protect your assets in the event of a divorce.
  • Handling adoption proceedings: Ensuring that the legal process of adoption is followed, from filing paperwork to finalizing the adoption in court.

How Are Family Law Lawyers Paid?

Family law lawyers typically charge clients in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Most family lawyers charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and location. Clients are billed for the time spent working on their case, including consultations, court appearances, and document preparation.
  • Flat fees: For more straightforward legal services, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, some lawyers offer flat-fee arrangements.
  • Retainer fees: In cases that are expected to require significant time and attention, such as contentious custody battles, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers the initial costs of legal services. The lawyer then bills against the retainer as they work on your case.

The exact cost will depend on the complexity of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure, which should be discussed upfront.

How Much Does a Family Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a family law lawyer varies based on factors such as the lawyer's experience, the location, and the complexity of your case. Here are some general cost guidelines:

  • Hourly rates: Family law lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Retainers: For more complex matters, such as contested divorces or custody battles, lawyers may charge a retainer ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 or more. The lawyer will bill against the retainer for the work they do on your case.
  • Additional costs: You may also be responsible for additional costs, such as filing fees, mediation fees, or expert witness fees.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of the lawyer’s fees and any additional expenses during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Family Law Lawyer

Before hiring a family law lawyer, it's important to ask questions to ensure they're the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with family law cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's a contested divorce, child custody dispute, or adoption.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or requires a retainer. Ask for an estimate of the total costs involved.
  3. What are the possible outcomes of my case?
An experienced lawyer should be able to give you a general idea of what to expect based on the facts of your case.
  4. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Ask whether the lawyer tends to favor negotiation and mediation or whether they prefer to take cases to court. This can help you determine if their style matches your goals.
  5. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it’s difficult to predict, the lawyer should give you an estimate based on similar cases.
  6. Who will be handling my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may do much of the work, so make sure you understand who will be your main point of contact.

How to Check the Credibility of a Family Law Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable family law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and is in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on websites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell. Previous clients can give you insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and success in family law cases.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer for references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Review their website or professional profile: Look at the lawyer’s background, case history, and areas of focus to ensure they have substantial experience in family law.
  • Look for professional memberships: Membership in reputable organizations, such as the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), can indicate a lawyer's expertise and dedication to family law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a family law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Relevant documents: Bring any documents related to your case, such as marriage certificates, prenuptial agreements, financial records, custody agreements, or court orders.
  • List of assets and debts: For divorce cases, prepare a detailed list of all assets (e.g., homes, bank accounts, retirement funds) and debts (e.g., mortgages, loans, credit card balances).
  • Details of the family issue: Provide a written summary of the situation, including key dates and facts related to your divorce, custody dispute, or support issue.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • Your goals: Be prepared to discuss your objectives, such as custody arrangements, property division, or spousal support, so the lawyer understands your priorities.

Being organized and clear about your situation will help the lawyer evaluate your case more effectively and offer the best advice for moving forward.
