I was uncomfortable from the first time I walked into the office. I felt like I was in the middle where they just grind out bankruptcies. I was not happy about filing a bankruptcy but it needed to be done. In the meantime things went from bad to worse my son died and I was in the hospital for a month. When I told them I really wanted to go with a different firm one of their employees told me that they would keep me in court to use all the money. I was talking about small claims court. She was almost yelling at me. I’m thinking about making a complaint with the state attorney board. But I warn you right now stay away from them. I am shortly going to be 74 years old. And the way she yelled at me it was almost elder abuse. I believe their shysters. And due to my failing health. I’ve been delayed and filing a small claims court. Roy Doppelt was grossly unprepared during court hearings. So much so, I almost felt sorry for my ex-husband who he hired to represent him. My attorney ate him for lunch and it left my ex worse off than when he started. He immediately fired Roy to seek new counsel. Roy’s attempts to go for the jugular, play dirty and act like a big shot, ended up shooting my ex in the foot. Not to mention he has no problem fabricating horrific stories and situations in a scummy way to get a leg up in the case (ie, the Silver Bullet offense). In the end, the judge saw through his tactics and reversed all prior orders against me. He has zero integrity and can’t effectively litigate, so he decides to just throw out untruths to muddy the waters. He’s why divorce attorneys have a bad name. He is inept, unorganized, and dubious. Don’t fall for his “nice guy” demeanor or placating tone of voice. He is a snake.

In order for Roy Doppelt to decide whether he wanted to take my case, he had me provide him a copy of the six-volume court file. I organized everything into binders with hundreds of tabs marking the docs. After reading my file, he decided not to represent me in court but agreed to help me with an upcoming trial. He then decided to removed all the docs from binders, remove my hundreds of tabs and Post-It notes, and put the docs in a box, out of order, turned around, upside down -- when I have an upcoming trial and REALLY need those docs organized. When I expressed my disappointment, he told me I can have another attorney re-tab it. So basically, I paid Roy $8,226 to review my file, say no, and remove my many hours of file organization, AND I will need to pay another attorney to re-organize it. Also, I had an ex parte matter where I needed someone in the office to verify with a judge that I incurred many legal fees regarding an issue. The task would have only taken 20 minutes to review an invoice and testify remotely. An attorney reviewed my pleadings but was supposedly told by Roy to not respond. I lost the $10K case simply because I did not have that witness. Not only that, I requested five times for their $295 attorney fee to be removed, but Roy refused. I paid $295 for zero response, which caused my loss of $10K. So basically, Roy cost me $8,226, $295, $10,000 + another $8K for another attorney to make sense of my disorganized file. That's $26,226.

I agree 110% with the other ONE-STAR review. >They will talk a good game and follow through well with responses when it involves retention; they will be available to respond to questions to get you to hire Dimitry. They: Dimitry and his wife, Kristina, who is the “business manager.” >>They act like they have compassion and creativity when it comes to solving divorce issues because they have gone through them themselves. But what I found is that they are close minded, jaded by their own past history and current step kid and coparent troubles, and the lack of compassion once hired shows. >>>NOT a “free consultation” as stated on the website. Once you retain this firm, if you don’t go through with the “strategy” advised by Dimitry, they will charge you for that “free consultation”. And mind you, his rate is TOO HIGH based on the services provided. There are plenty of attorneys out there that will charge much less and provide better quality work and services. For my case, the strategy advised was not able to be followed through with because the coparent I am going through issues with did not want to participate in it. To save money, I decided to ask my coparent directly if he would be willing to follow the strategy recommended by my lawyer, and he said no. Based on this, the consultation (no further legal services needed) should have been free, but Dimitry and his wife did not want to entertain it and did not stick to their word. They would rather have Dimitry get paid $465/hr to reach out to opposing counsel and my ex to incur costs (only to get a “no thank you” when asked to follow his strategy) - how CROOKED!! Instead, they would rather sip bottles of Dom and buy expensive clothing then help clients and unethically make money off of our troubles. BIG MISTAKE to go with them. As a hard-working person who has dealt with Customer Service for over 20 years in a compassionate and genuine way, I’m appalled by this experience. Keep shopping folks - this is your family and your livelihood at stake!! Best to you!

I’m so happy we picked Dimitry as our attorney. He is incredibly knowledgeable about family law, and he is always available to answer questions and provide guidance. He is also very compassionate and understanding. One of the things that I appreciated most about Dimitry was his customer service. He was always responsive to my emails and phone calls. He also took the time to explain everything to me in terms that I could understand, even though I don’t have any legal experience. I would highly recommend Dimitry to anyone who is seeking a family law lawyer. He is knowledgeable, hardworking, and caring.

I've had the privilege of working with Dimitry on 2 contracts that were absolutely crucial for my business. Although Dimitry specializes in Family law, he was not only willing to help but extremely knowledgable and thorough during this process. As any business owner would know, contracts between yourself and any other party involved are important and certainly necessary. In my case, Dimitry helped me build a silent partnership agreement in 2019, as well as a termination agreement in 2023. Dimitry delivered both times with his professionalism, accuracy, and generosity. He continues to exceed my expectations and I intend to seek his legal advice in both professional and personal matters. I highly recommend Dimitry to any current or aspiring business owners who perhaps needs the guidance and peace of mind.

She’s only out for the money. Comes across nice in the beginning but things change fast! She refuses to try and settle with the only party. She only wants to go to trial where she will take all your money! After draining me of every dime I had I found a VERY COMPETENT helpful attorney who helped me and my x settle out of court. Then after we sold our home and I went to pick up the check Andre refused to sign off claiming I owed her money. I couldn’t get the check from the house until I paid her an additional 25,000 on top of the thousands I had already paid her, She’s a money shark. RUN THE OTHER WAY!

I had the unfortunate experience of having William J Kiernan represent me during a criminal matter as a contract attorney for the Alternate Public Defender. He refused to take my phone calls, he refused to respond to my emails, he refused to meet with me and most importantly he refused to properly prepare for my trial Kiernan, literally, did no preparation at all. He even failed to send out a written discovery request. Needless to say the trial did not go well. He is lazy, incompetent and basically worthless as an advocate. I was referred to Iris McKay because of her extensive experience with the complexities surrounding out-of-state post-divorce relocation with minors. Although she is not currently litigating, I was told that she would be a wealth of information and could help give me some direction. We ended up chatting for a solid hour not only about the law surrounding my case, but about life, motherhood, moving on after divorce, our children, our similarities, strengths, etc. etc. I felt so empowered after speaking to her - like I was speaking to an extremely intelligent coach! Had I been in the state of California when I was going through my divorce, I am 100% certain that I would have hired Ms. McKay on the spot. She is articulate, knowledgeable, kind natured, yet an absolute force to be reckoned with! Thank you again, Ms. McKay!

I don’t know about you, but I have some very high expectations when it comes to attorneys who either represent me or others I care about. Here are the qualities that I absolutely expect out of an attorney: ethical; highly intelligent (yet real/genuine); honest; direct, highly regarded by the Bench; strategically smart planner; artfully persuasive, articulate; organized; makes time for talking about my concerns; powerfully appropriate in Court (in dress, style, and mannerisms); maintains healthy boundaries for all clients (whether they like it or not); is willing to gently, yet assertively argue with her/his clients when needed, deeply understands and adapts to the wide spectrum of human responses that evolve during the long arduous divorce process, is not so busy that she/he has no time for talking with me, and has a deep well of professional associates to whom she/he can refer her/his clients when needed (e.g. Forensic Accountants, M.F.T’s, Psychologists, other attorneys when case-specific issues require such a referral to a specialist, etc.). Iris McKay, Esq. embodies all of the above. Her successful representation of me was nothing short of a class act. I have respectfully referred numerous people to her as a tip of my hat to her overall skills as a divorce attorney. In each and every one of those cases, the referent came back to me raving about the quality of service that was proved by Ms. McKay. I suspect there will always be a couple disgruntled people out there who will post reviews on sites such as this where they vent their frustration at the professional who told them the things they did not want to hear. I’ve suspect that most such nay-sayers came into the client/attorney relationship unwell, disturbed, dysfunctional, and angry in the first place. Sad for them, but nobody will ever meet their unrealistic expectations. When it came to Iris McKay, Esq., all of my and my referents’ expectations were surpassed. And we thank her.

I met Iris Mckay at a Divorce workshop, and after her very positive presentation which focused on looking forward in our lives to our future, I determined to engage her services. She has extensive knowledge of the California Family laws and has represented me with integrity, composure and skill. She is patient, explaining everything that is going on and talks on my level without ever causing me to feel she is talking down to me. I have great faith and trust that she has my interests at heart, and knowing she is on my side gives me a sense of peace about the outcome of my divorce. I have been extremely pleased with everything that she and her accomplished and able staff have done for me. I unconditionally recommend her to any person, woman or man, who is considering the painful decision to end their marriage. Iris McKay is an attorney who genuinely represents her clients. It is with profound respect and gratitude that I extend my heartfelt endorsement for Justin Walker, Jared Veliz, Lorrie Walker and the whole support team at Walker Law whose dedication, perseverance, and tireless advocacy have left an indelible mark on my life. Despite facing one of the largest corporations in the world, Justin and Jared stood resolute and fearless, embodying the very essence of bravery and commitment to justice. Throughout the legal proceedings, Jared and Justin demonstrated not only their exceptional legal acumen but also a deep sense of empathy and friendship that has greatly endeared them to me. Their readiness to confront formidable challenges and navigate complex legal landscapes was nothing short of inspiring. These are unique and special individuals—the kind of individuals you want with you in your foxhole during the most intense battles and scariest of times. Although the outcome was not entirely in our favor, the measure of their success is not merely found in the verdict, but in the relentless spirit and boundless energy they brought into advocating for me and my case. Their sacrifices, grit and devotion did not go unnoticed, and their steadfast dedication continues to resonate with me and all who have the privilege of knowing them. Justin, Jared and the whole Walker Law team are not just my attorneys; they have become my honored allies, friends and trusted advisors. Their profound commitment to their clients and the cause of justice makes them truly commendable and deserving of the highest praise. Before, during and after trial, Justin Walker displayed the most genuine and heartfelt concern for my well-being and the well-being of my family. He did so even when it would have been understandable, reasonable and justified to instead only focus on his own well-being or that of his team members and family. I love the individuals I’ve been privileged enough to spend time with during this journey. I thank God that Justin, Jared, Lorrie and their team have come into my life. I recommend Walker Law to anyone seeking the very highest level of legal expertise and advocacy. Their professionalism and integrity are exemplary, and they represent the best of what the legal profession has to offer.

Honestly, any time legal is involved there is always a sense of uneasiness and uncertainty. From the first meeting with Damon he was great gave me a few pointers for legal advice as well as personal advise of how to cope with the issues. When things came down to the line Dianne did a lot of the coordinating with myself, one thing I appreciated was that no matter my mood she was calm and collected and could help ease my mind. Dianne provided me with many great resources to help me understand the process, to include documentation, conversation and youtube videos. The whole team made the process easy. In the hours and meetings there they always asked about me on a personal level not just worried about making money off the case. They were there to answer questions on COVID and always got back to me in a timely manner. One thing that impressed me was Dianne made me write my coffeshop memo, basically telling my story so they could better understand what they were working with. They also ensured all the documentation was appropriate and correct something, they had great attention to even the smallest details, what I saw through the process isn't true of all firms. Overall I would highly recommend Doppelt and Forney, Damon and Dianne were an amazing team to work with.

Awful phone consultation experience. Divorce is a stressful experience but to have an attorney debate the abusive reality you experienced and be insentive to the concerns you have in regards to the other parent with young children was traumatizing. I felt belittled and dismissed . I expressedbriefly my abuse with my Russian husband as a black individual and was downplayed “ the courts don’t care about that unless you have proof” with out hearing me tell my full story. She then said well “I’m hearing your side and I don’t know what his side is so …” I’m reaching out to you to be my attorney it does not matter what his side is ! Maybe you don’t want to go against your own Russian people once you realized I’m a black person. She was asking me whether I was Russian or not that shouldn’t even be a factor !I do not recommend this lawyer and will be searching for another lawyer that can listen to my situation with out rudely interrupting me as I’m speaking.

His brilliance and ability to strategize are driven by a passion for the well being of the children involved in the divorce. I have to give rave reviews for Christine and thumbs down reviews for "Family Court". Christine is up front as much as possible in all ways and her experience & attention to details is exemplary. She also goes out of her way to try to keep expenses down. Bottom line is that you can trust her to do a good job. Sadly, in Family Court, history has proven time and time again that the woman in a divorce or separation case can get away with virtually anything with total impunity to include any and every type of abuse to include child abuse, elder abuse & violence, lying, falsification of records or documents filed with the court, false testimony, lying at depositions, grand theft robbery, embezzlement, immigration marriage fraud, marriage fraud, and other forms of abuse. The court could care less. When you present even criminal information in court during live testimony, and you hear the presiding judge say; "that's no big deal, lots of people do that", is greatly disappointing and destroys trust in the court system when the judge does not care.

Nicole Nemeth helped me get through a very difficult divorce case. In my case the other attorney fought about everything. My spouse wanted everything including alimony, the children, all of our bank savings and our house. Bottom line is they wanted to ruin me because my spouse had so much anger. Nicole would not back down, and she made sure that cooler heads prevailed. She know her stuff! She is honest and concerned about your family and children. I don’t know what I would have done without her. If you want a lawyer that will not give up on you, will stand by your side and fight for what is right then you chose the right lawyer.

I would recommend Attorney Nemeth to represent you in any legal matter. Attorney Nemeth was a life saver for my husband and me when he had to undergo emergency surgery. I called her to prepare a last will and testament for my husband and she understood how desperate I was and was very understanding. Attorney Nemeth immediately prepared the documents that we needed and brought them to the hospital for my husband to sign. I was such a basket case and so worried about the surgery, and the Attorney stayed with me and comforted me during this time. She is exceptionally caring and competent attorney and you can tell she truly cares about you as a person and not just a client.

I hired Attorney Nicole E Nemeth in January of 2015 for a Quiet Title Lawsuit in hopes of obtaining a clear title on my property. I paid her retainer upfront in FULL and she never filed the lawsuit and mislead me with information advising me that the lawsuit had been filed. We are in April and no lawsuit was ever filed. I requested a refund and she declined my request.

Rachel helped me in Arizona when I was going through a custody battle with my ex wife. It is not common a man trying to keep his kids when the ex wife wants to take them back. I felt my ex was going to take them after they lived with me for over 10 years. Rachel put together a great case and I was able to keep my kids, keep them in their schools. It was a dark time in my life, she helped make it better. She was always prompt and looked into things that would help my case, I felt she went above and beyond what other would have done. Sorry she went back to California but thank you for being in Arizona when I needed you.

Rachel represented me in 2008, I have worked with a number of attorneys some bad, some good and a very few that I would say were excellent. Rachel definitely holds that distinction, of being an excellent attorney with me. So much so that I called her a while back wanting her to represent me in AZ again. Rachel is dedicated to her clients, and her profession, she demonstrated this while representing me to the highest level. She put my case in front of her own needs, representing me tenaciously I might add, during a time when she should in all honesty been at home taking care of herself. She was so successful for me that I can say without a doubt in my mind, if you can get her on your team, you should. You would definitely not want to be setting at the other table.

Michelle is amazing, Having to deal with my legal issues was stressful. I don’t know what to expect. When I met Michelle for the first time she was easy to talk to, answered all my questions and explained how things would go each step of the way. She was always available to answer my questions. I feel like she worked really hard to help the judge understand my situation and took time to write an extensive client report that was helpful and supportive to my case. I often refer her to my friends and family. I hope I never need her again, but if I do I would definitely work with Michelle!

I’m still rebuilding from this tragic mistake. First red flag was when paralegal Lery said I could not check the box to seek reimbursement for the costs I’d be incurring in the case as plaintiff despite my actions being needed to simply locate our daughter despite it being a box on the required legal document used to initiate proceedings as plaintiff. Getting Elizabeth to advocate for me was like dragging a heavy sharp rock or performing invasive dental work. She appeared as if she didn’t have time to brush her hair and arrived a couple minutes late to the hearing time but at least in plenty of time before my case was called. While, I can accept and appreciate her advice that some of my evidence demonstrating the erratic behavior of my ex, wasn’t relevant to our custody situation in San Diego, her unwillingness to present more evidence resulted in tragic results as far as ultimately limiting my involvement in our daughter’s life. My Ex made unfounded allegations that I assaulted her, without any pictures, notes from seeking medical care, video, witnesses etc during our relationship in Point Loma and later La Mesa in Riverside County ~ 91 miles from where we lived. Elizabeth suggested I represent myself in Riverside County Court in August 2021. She said that if she decided to make the drive to Riverside she wouldn’t say anything since there were no grounds for a restraining order. Elizabeth didn’t question why there was no evidence and didn’t submit photographic evidence I had provided. My Ex cried during the hearing. Although, a restraining order wasn’t granted, a finding of domestic violence was made against me. It seemed as if she was unaware that such a finding could be made without a restraining order. This finding was the start of exponential life of misery for me. In September 2021 in San Diego East County Court in El Cajon, at the conclusion 3 Ex Parte hearings resulting in me getting only 6 hours per week visitation with our daughter initially before more time would be considered, it became apparent it would have been in my best interest to request a 30 day delay in the Riverside County restraining order hearing and I likely would have had a more favorable outcome in my San Diego ex Parte hearings. At the conclusion of the hearing Judge Miller (now assisting Supervising Family Judge in Central San Diego), asked Elizabeth if an October 2021 date CUSTODY & VISITATION &CHILD SUPPORT would work. Elizabeth told Judge Miller she would be unavailable that date due to vacation, however she took the October Court Date for me explaining another attorney (presumably Kathy Minella since she was the only other lawyer) would cover for her vacation and appear virtually for my hearing date. As it got to be 1-2 weeks before my court date, I requested to speak with Kathy Minella to update her on my family issues etc since Elizabeth wouldn’t be representing me. I was then informed Kathy Minella was gone on maternity leave (presumably she would have been aware of this & Elizabeth’s vacation schedule when I retained their firm) and unavailable. The firm actually tried to connect me to another lawyer Dawn Luchessi via email but then that didn’t pan out. (presumably they tried contracting with her as a temp). My own law firm Manilla had to ask for a continuance of our lawsuit because no one could show up virtually in court on the date they said would. If Elizabeth would have just answered Judge Miller question in a forthright manner, no the Oct. 2021 date wouldn’t workout, we could have likely gotten a date in November 2021. Since we asked for a continuance within less than a week or two of the hearing, my 1st CUSTODY, VISITATION &CHILD SUPPORT hearing after ex parte wasn’t until Jan. 2022 close to 5 months after I had retained Lefiti

What a Family Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A family law lawyer provides legal services related to family relationships, including marriage, divorce, child custody, and adoption. Family lawyers help clients navigate emotionally charged legal issues, providing guidance and representation in disputes that affect spouses, children, and parents. Whether you're going through a divorce, seeking custody of your children, or drafting a prenuptial agreement, a family law lawyer ensures your rights are protected and your interests are represented.

Family law attorneys often handle sensitive matters and offer objective legal advice, helping clients reach fair outcomes either through negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

When Should I Hire a Family Law Lawyer?

Hiring a family law lawyer is beneficial in several situations, especially when legal matters involve close personal relationships. Common reasons to hire a family law lawyer include:

  • Divorce or separation: When ending a marriage, a lawyer can help you navigate issues such as division of assets, spousal support, and child custody arrangements.
  • Child custody and visitation disputes: If you and your co-parent can't agree on custody or visitation, a lawyer can represent your interests and work toward a solution that benefits your children.
  • Child support: Whether you’re seeking child support or defending against a claim, a lawyer can help ensure the appropriate amount is calculated and enforced.
  • Prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: A lawyer can help draft or review agreements that protect your assets in case of divorce.
  • Adoption: Family law lawyers guide you through the legal process of adoption, ensuring that all requirements are met.
  • Domestic violence or restraining orders: If you're a victim of domestic violence or being falsely accused, a lawyer can help you obtain or challenge protective orders.
  • Paternity cases: If there are questions about the paternity of a child, a lawyer can help establish or dispute legal fatherhood.

Hiring a lawyer early can prevent issues from escalating, and they can offer you the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome in emotionally charged situations.

What Does a Family Law Lawyer Do?

A family law lawyer provides a wide range of services depending on your specific legal needs. Their responsibilities may include:

  • Advising on legal rights and options: Helping you understand your legal rights regarding divorce, child custody, support, and other family law issues.
  • Filing legal documents: Drafting and filing petitions, motions, and agreements with the court, such as divorce papers, custody agreements, or support orders.
  • Representing clients in court: Arguing your case in front of a judge if a settlement can’t be reached through negotiation or mediation.
  • Mediation and negotiation: Assisting with alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation, to reach agreements on issues like custody, property division, and support without going to trial.
  • Enforcing court orders: Helping you enforce court orders related to child support, alimony, or custody if the other party fails to comply.
  • Drafting prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: Creating agreements that protect your assets in the event of a divorce.
  • Handling adoption proceedings: Ensuring that the legal process of adoption is followed, from filing paperwork to finalizing the adoption in court.

How Are Family Law Lawyers Paid?

Family law lawyers typically charge clients in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Most family lawyers charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and location. Clients are billed for the time spent working on their case, including consultations, court appearances, and document preparation.
  • Flat fees: For more straightforward legal services, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, some lawyers offer flat-fee arrangements.
  • Retainer fees: In cases that are expected to require significant time and attention, such as contentious custody battles, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers the initial costs of legal services. The lawyer then bills against the retainer as they work on your case.

The exact cost will depend on the complexity of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure, which should be discussed upfront.

How Much Does a Family Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a family law lawyer varies based on factors such as the lawyer's experience, the location, and the complexity of your case. Here are some general cost guidelines:

  • Hourly rates: Family law lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Retainers: For more complex matters, such as contested divorces or custody battles, lawyers may charge a retainer ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 or more. The lawyer will bill against the retainer for the work they do on your case.
  • Additional costs: You may also be responsible for additional costs, such as filing fees, mediation fees, or expert witness fees.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of the lawyer’s fees and any additional expenses during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Family Law Lawyer

Before hiring a family law lawyer, it's important to ask questions to ensure they're the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with family law cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's a contested divorce, child custody dispute, or adoption.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or requires a retainer. Ask for an estimate of the total costs involved.
  3. What are the possible outcomes of my case?
An experienced lawyer should be able to give you a general idea of what to expect based on the facts of your case.
  4. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Ask whether the lawyer tends to favor negotiation and mediation or whether they prefer to take cases to court. This can help you determine if their style matches your goals.
  5. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it’s difficult to predict, the lawyer should give you an estimate based on similar cases.
  6. Who will be handling my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may do much of the work, so make sure you understand who will be your main point of contact.

How to Check the Credibility of a Family Law Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable family law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and is in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on websites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell. Previous clients can give you insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and success in family law cases.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer for references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Review their website or professional profile: Look at the lawyer’s background, case history, and areas of focus to ensure they have substantial experience in family law.
  • Look for professional memberships: Membership in reputable organizations, such as the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), can indicate a lawyer's expertise and dedication to family law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a family law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Relevant documents: Bring any documents related to your case, such as marriage certificates, prenuptial agreements, financial records, custody agreements, or court orders.
  • List of assets and debts: For divorce cases, prepare a detailed list of all assets (e.g., homes, bank accounts, retirement funds) and debts (e.g., mortgages, loans, credit card balances).
  • Details of the family issue: Provide a written summary of the situation, including key dates and facts related to your divorce, custody dispute, or support issue.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • Your goals: Be prepared to discuss your objectives, such as custody arrangements, property division, or spousal support, so the lawyer understands your priorities.

Being organized and clear about your situation will help the lawyer evaluate your case more effectively and offer the best advice for moving forward.
