Ted Butler was the attorney my wife hired to represent her in a contentious child custody and divorce case, which has been fraught with conflict. Initially, I harbored reservations about Mr. Butler, given that part of my ex-wife's strategy involved attempts to have me arrested, file multiple protective orders against me, and accuse me of spousal and child abuse. While it seemed initially that Ted Butler was complicit in this strategy, it became apparent over time that he may not have been fully informed about the complete truth, plans, or actions of his client. Throughout the ongoing divorce proceedings, I have come to believe that Ted Butler is an honest individual who strives to do his best for his clients. I am convinced that without Ted Butler's representation, my ex-wife's outcomes in court would have been significantly worse. As a former military combat veteran, my ex-wife consistently uses PTSD against me, despite my disability being rated at only 10 percent. It was a central component of her argument that I posed a danger to her and our children due to PTSD. While Ted Butler vigorously advocated for his client, he did not exploit my military service against me in court, despite my ex-wife's persistence in doing so. Although my divorce case is still pending, and Ted Butler is likely to remain my ex-wife's attorney, I want to acknowledge him as an honest and honorable attorney who fights vigorously but fairly.

Nicole O'Neal is very knowledgeable, professional, caring, and came highly recommended from my previous attorney. I initially met with Nicole in 2019 for legal advice and retained her a few months later. I have been working with her for 3+ years and cannot stress enough how smart she is. Nicole helped my family with a Transfer of Venue, Temporary Orders for Custody and Visitation, retaining the best GAL, and a successful Step-Parent Adoption; we did not make it easy on her, but she was always (literally, always) patient and kept the best interest of my children at heart. If you're a father looking to get out of paying child support this is your guy! He will allow you to send in nothing but some random numbers typed up from "your business" while dragging the mother all over the ends of the earth to retain any and all of her financial output/input. In the end I was pressured by him and his client to "make signing this a priority" because his client couldn't make it to court.

Mrs. Jessica and her team was the most efficient, hands on law firm that I have ever experienced. I called them last minute, maybe like two days before my custody hearing and they were able to get me in and out of court with a successful trial and a win for my family and I. I am so grateful to have them in my corner and they were listening to my needs of myself and my family. At the suggestion of my daughter, I called Jessica 5 days before the statute of limitations date for my personal injury case. Jessica and her team jumped right in to assist, filed on time, and explained the process clearly for me to understand. I hired Ms. Messman a few years ago for my divorce/custody after spending 5 years with another law firm & wasting thousands of dollars to get nowhere. Ms. Messman got my divorce finalized and sole custody of my children in less than a year & only charged me a couple of thousand dollars. The other law firm drug their feet and charged me $60,000 grand over a 5 year period. I'm so glad I found Ms. Messman.

I was with another firm for over two years. They drained my bank account, my hope, and I felt like a pawn in my own custody battle. I sought Mykell out after a terrible experience where I felt my attorney at the time didn’t know how to represent my case. I had an initial meeting, we talked about what was important to me and once accepted Mykell literally heard everything I said, as a single mom, and went from there. We didn’t have a bunch of consultations that she billed me obscene amounts, we had two. She went to court and she FOUGHT for my babies and for me. She fought for everyone’s best interests, she was amazing. She told me from the beginning we’re not doing this whole “petty” thing which I 100% respect because my previous lawyer told me to call them about everything, and they billed me accordingly. She said call me when you NEED me and gave me her personal cell. After two and a half years for the first time I felt HEARD with her without repeating myself twenty times. I felt SAFE with her and I knew she was looking out for EVERYONE. She was everything I needed from the beginning and more. If you don’t go to Mykell you’re doing a disservice to yourself and your sanity. For the first time in two and a half years I feel like I can breathe again. Retain her. The juice is worth the squeeze I promise you.

Eric B. Stone successfully represented me in a case that initially I thought was going to be damage control. Mr. Stone is a true miracle worker! I was cited for reckless driving on my way back from Virginia Beach. Daniel Fast is by far the absolute best attorney I have ever worked with. Not only is Mr Fast very personable, but he takes the time to review every piece of evidence as closely as possible in order to present it in a clear and concise manner. Mr Fast also explains every step in the legal process in a way that is not only makes it easy to understand, but he also has the uncanny ability to ease the normal fears of courtroom drama. We have come to know Attorney Daniel Fast over two years and three different court cases for custody and visitation of my children. These were cases involving families from three different states. We found Dan on an internet review site, so we hope this review helps someone else seeking expert help in custody, visitation or divorce case representation. Dan is a very competent lawyer who knows the law and gave us sound advice on what was important legally to our case. He is an advocate for children and parents and worked to represent our case within the law. He prepared us well for court and provided us with a strong court defense. We appreciated the help that Dan gave us in representing my request for my child to be returned to my primary custody. This was a long process and very nerve wracking. I needed a lawyer that would listen to me . I was going through a custody issue with my ex-wife. I tried to explain my issues with other attorneys and they stated it was too complicated. I was about to give up until a friend of mine who is a lawyer told me that the best person to go to if I wanted to stand a chance of winning was Kimberly Phillips. I told her my story and all the issues that I was having. She told me that she understood what I was going through and knew exactly what to do to help me with my situation. I hired her because I knew that she really wanted to help me. Her actions spoke louder than her words. She always contacted me continuously to keep me up to date at all times on what direction we were headed. I never had to wonder what was going on. She was always available to answer all my questions. She is very honest. She always showed concern. It seems as if she never stop working. She made me feel that I was her only client. I appreciated her kindness and her patience. Mrs. Phillips explained legal terms to me in a way that I could understand it. Mrs. Phillips did endless research on my case and was able to discover things about my ex-wife that I didn't know. In court, Mrs Phillips STOOD HER ground. I was very impressed. She is very good. If it wasn't for Mrs.Phillips, I would not have won custody of my son. I can not thank her enough. I rarely, if ever, write reviews, but had to make an exception for Kimberly Hughes Phillips. She is a true professional and she represented me well, in a very difficult case. Mrs. Phillips worked tirelessly to make sure my concerns were heard in court, regarding my concerns about my children. Her hard work enabled me to obtain primary and legal custody of my children. I do not recommend Nana Babington as a lawyer and I would rate her 0 if I could. She has failed my citizenship case, even though it was an easy one if applied at the right time. Because I was away from the US for 10 months during the past 5 years, I needed an attorney to give me a legal advice on when I should apply for my US Citizenship. So, on October 2019, I scheduled a PAID telephone appointment with Ms. Babington regarding this matter where she advised that I was already eligible to apply for US Citizenship. Further, I made the FULL payment (both the application fee and attorney fees) and she filed my case. Unfortunately, when I arrived at my interview I understood that being away from the States for 10 months I have broken the continuous residency requirement and as a result my case will be denied. The denial letter clearly explained that in case of absence over 6 months one must have some ties with the USA (either have an immediate family member residing in the USA, or be employed in the USA, or retain full access to his/her US abode). Unfortunately, I could not meet any of those requirements and Ms. Babington was aware of this. Upon receiving my denial letter, I called Ms. Babington and she promised to assist me to re-apply for citizenship. However, during this process she put me on hold for 2 weeks, then did not reply to my emails for days and refused to answer my phone calls. Later she emailed me saying that she was very busy with trial cases and that she did not have the time for courtesy cases. I emailed her back asking why she considered my case as courtesy since the case was failed due to her negligence and I have already wasted $1500 and 1 year of my time during this citizenship process and was not planing to waste anymore. She called me humiliating and blocked my emails. I have emailed her from a different account asking for a refund so I could find another attorney to work with. I have been patiently waiting for her to reply for OVER ONE month and haven't received anything to this day! Very unprofessional. So, long story short, please save your time and money and file your cases with a trusted lawyer. I am attaching her email as well as the part of the denial letter in my google review.

Sooo Mr. Boyko was my court appointed attorney. I called his office 4 separate occasions. No call back. I still had to show up in court, and surprise, surprise he did not show up.... So as you can imagine I let the judge know, and it was continued and I decided to hire my own... it's all about the money, if you are willing to spend I'm quite sure he will represent you well, however if you have other financial circumstances.... go a different route.

This was the first, and hopefully last time that I'll need a lawyer, and I'm glad I found Marc. From day one he was able to put my mind at ease. Professional and personal, he worked with me and let me know what options I had and could use, and explained it in a way I could understand. By the time I retained Lori, she had less than a week to prepare my case. Despite this, she collected and scoured through an entire year of documentation to have my case ready to go. She was supportive and kind during a very difficult process (getting a protective order against my husband), gave sound legal advice, thoroughly prepped me, and won my case swiftly.

I hired Johnathan for a semi complicated custody case. After being hired I found out that my ex had already filed and we had a court date already set. I sent this information to Johnathan he informed me that he had prior arrangements and couldn’t make it but would have someone step in on his place. Emily was wonderful and professional and also knowledgeable. My issue is more with billing and communication on what I would be billed. I turned out that due to Johnathans personal conflict with my initial court date I would not be paying 350 for any communication with Johnathan and an additional 250 for Emily. Had I known this would be the car I would had asked to be transferred over to Emily only as she was able to show up for my case and while my case was semi complicated it an experienced lawyer should’ve been wholly able to navigate it better than myself. Additionally, dusting a family emergency I called his office on a Thursday at 2:40 and was informed that he was not at his desk but would call me back. Due to urgency I then sent an email of which did not get responded to until Monday. He then informed me that his lack of response was because I did not include his assistant or the other attorney that I didn’t even know had been added to my case. Having never hired an attorney before better communication was expected in terms of who I would get billed for. The handout while full of information on how much certain tiers of employees would cost is helpful but really of no use when no one communicates and says this attorney will also be added to your case at your expense because on personal conflicts. I discontinued his services after he could not be reached and I informed him of my issues, feelings, and how I felt about his services and he responded with he “respectfully disagreed” I would recommend Emily as I actually did get to met with her in person and speak with her. I know billing and lack of communication was not her fault.

I selected Jon McHugh of the Livesay & Myers Leesburg office to help me through a recent divorce. I unfortunately have experience with other divorce attorneys and because of previous issues, I interviewed a few others before I finally picked Jon. I was immediately impressed with his candor and demeanor. He didn't tell me what I wanted to hear, like many have. He also didn't look at his watch before he said hello or goodbye like I've experienced in the past. He listened to my story and gave me his thoughts about a path forward. I was sold on him after the first five minutes. Working with Jon and his support staff was my favorite of all time attorney interactions. Jon and Margaret Stanley were extremely responsive to any of my questions or requests and I never got the feeling that they were looking for things to charge me for like I've experienced in the past. The bottom line is that the final settlement came out much better than we discussed in the beginning. I chalk that up to Jon knowing what he is doing and the strategy he laid out working better than expected. Exceeding expectations is how you get satisfied customers and I certainly am one. As a side note, this cost me less in legal fees than I expected and much less than I've previously experienced. I would highly recommend the Livesay & Myers law firm and Jonathan McHugh in specific.

II retained Martha after my ex-wife put a restraining order against me, and than filed for a divorce. My case was difficult as I was not able to obtain any needed documents as they were very old and only copy we had were in the home, and I did not had access to my home to retrieve them. My fiancé and I had the pleasure of working with Livesay & Myers, I had Sarah as my lawyer and Sunny as my paralegal. we started working with Sarah in the beginning of the 2023 till now, from our consultation, all the way till now we have nothing but amazing things to say, Sarah is so sweet and understanding, she is very calm and listens to everything you have to say, she gives you great advice on how to handle everything and how to speak and document. Sunny is so down to earth, always there to answer my calls or emails. When Sarah was busy, she was quick to answer and replay back with great advice, My ex-husband gave us a big run around and we all were very frustrated and Sarah and Sunny made sure I was very calm and collected. Neither Sarah nor Sunny gave up on us esp. with what we thought was best for the kids. I will continue to stay in touch and keep them updated with how my 2 older children are doing. The front desk is Sheree and when she answers the calls her voice is so sweet and kind. I loved talking to her, she just puts a smile on your face when arriving to the office. I would highly recommend allowing Mr. Barlow and his paralegal Ms. Whitmore to manage you legal needs. I appreciated Mr. Barlow taking the time to explain legal terms and the various options I had available to meet my estate planning needs. They prevented the process of creating a will from being unpleasant, thanks again!

I reached out to this firm on September 6th for consultation on a lease matter. After working with the intake coordinator and not hearing anything, I sent a follow up email on September 11th. It is now September 30th and I have not heard from an attorney or anyone. Needless to say this was a time sensitive matter (as most lease issues are) and you blew it. Thanks for the assistance. This is why no one likes Lawyers.

Recommend this firm and Kathryn Cunningham who prepared my documents. I had moved from MD to VA a few years ago and procrastinated about having my Will, POA and Health directive changed to meet VA requirements. Ms Cunningham made the process very easy - everything done by email until the in person signing. There was really no reason to have procrastinated!

Ben Brasfield took my case and when it was all over he said something to the effect of, “If you’re willing to outwork the other side things will go your way”… or something like that…He’s definitely not lazy! It wasn’t advice for me, it was a general statement of how he prepped to take the case, but I still think about that. He’s smart, strategic, thorough, and experienced. He had a good staff or paralegals as well.

To be fair Mrs. Stubbs is the only divorce lawyer I have worked with but she was amazing! Her entire team was so supportive I truly felt cared about. She held my hand through much of the process answering every question with patience and I always felt protected. My ex husband was not as big of a fan often referring to her as my personal guard dog. I would simply reply with “That’s because you’re on the teeth end, as the one holding the leash I think she is is wonderful.” Mrs. Stubbs & her team were worth every penny, and I never for a moment regretted hiring them. Would give 6 stars if I could.
