Eugene Oliver was my court appointed attorney. Judging by my previous experience with court appointed lawyers I figure he would be like the rest I've had and do the bare minimum. I was wrong he listened to my side, he didn't try to talk me into anything I didn't want to do. He was very straight forward. He went to work on my case and I couldn't have asked for better results. I did unfortunately have to serve a jail sentence... A very small jail sentence. 10 days when others in similar cases spent months. He went straight to work and I'm very happy he was appointed my attorney. I highly recommend Eugene Oliver to anyone who needs a criminal defense attorney. Just read his resume it truly speaks for itself

When my 20 1/2 year old daughter was charged with "illegal possession of alcohol" charge, i.e. under age drinking, a lawyer in the family highly recommended we hire a lawyer in the Harrisonburg area, as he/she will know the court judges, police officers, etc. and will make the best recommendations and perhaps negotiate a reduced penalty. We hired Mr. Oliver from the Evans Law Group after doing some research into who the best attorneys for handling the illegal possession charge (We learned that your body is considered a container, thus the 'illegal possession" charge.) I was surprised that Mr. Oliver recommended that we contest the charge, as my daughter was drinking and was stopped while walking back to her dorm with a friend, who also charged. However, Mr. Oliver thought we could win the case as my daughter did not admit to drinking nor did she take a breathalyzer test. All first time offenders are offered the chance to attend the Virginia Alcohol Safety Action Program (VASAP) where you can have your record cleared of an underage drinking conviction, which is a felony in Virginia. You're required to attend classes, and perform charity work for a minimum of 6 months, or possibly longer depending upon the charge(s). So instead of negotiating a reduced time period and/or fees, Mr. Oliver recommended that my daughter plead innocent. During the period between the initial court date and the trial, Mr. Oliver's only communication was his invoices. I had to call his office to find out what was going on. At the trial, the police office gave his account, saying my daughter 'reeked of alcohol' and saw her stumbling while she was walking. What was Mr. Oliver's defense argument? ... "Someone could have spilled alcohol on her"... that was it! I paid $1,000 for an argument a high school kid would have made. In fact, the police office wanted a more serious penalty... no admittance to the VASAP program, resulting in a felony conviction on my daughter's record. The judge did not like that my daughter pleaded not guilty and was trying to escape responsibility... Thanks for that poorly thought out recommendation, Mr. Oliver. She would have plead guilty and taken the VASAP first offender program if it wasn't for your recommendation that she contest the charge. Fortunately, the judge did not take away the VASAP first offender program offer, which my daughter is going through now. To wrap up this short story, I HIGHLY recommend you DO NOT hire Mr. Oliver. A complete waste of time and money!!

I had a 87/55 RD charge while on vacation. Eugene answered all my questions, gave me solid advice to help my case, and represented me out-of-state. As a result, my charges were dropped to a speeding infraction of 74/55 and only paid a small fine with no misdemeanor on my record. He gave assuring council and professionally paved the way in court. Hire him already.

Mr. Stratton provided excellent help with my divorce. He offered good advice and the whole process was virtually painless. Everything ran smoothly and my divorce was final in record time.

Attorney Stratton got the job done, and our case went the way we wanted it to go. This was a very clean, open-shut child visitation agreement case. He was easy to hire, had a pleasant attitude, and got the issue resolved. However, the reason I can't rate five stars is because trying to get in contact with him in between court dates was almost impossible. At one point, it actually took him an entire month to return my phone calls, and by the time I spoke to him again, it was too close to the court date for the information to make a difference. I even tried to communicate through texts but that didn't effect the timeliness of our correspondence. He is a very difficult person to get ahold of. For our last court appearance in October, he was actually late. We had agreed to meet at the court house at 10:15AM, but he didn't show until almost 11:15AM. Thankfully the judge waited so we didn't have to reschedule, but the anxiety of my lawyer running late for court was overwhelming. Attorney Stratton seems to have too much on his plate at all times, so if you're a client who likes weekly updates or check-ins regarding the status of your case, or even just being able to get in touch with your lawyer without any issues, then he is not the lawyer for you. Our case ended two months ago and I'm still trying to get in contact with him and his office to receive a final bill so I know if I owe him more money or if there was money left from the retainer fee that he owes to me. I wish I could give him 5 stars but the lack of communication from the time I hired him in June until now in December has made what should have been a simple court issue into a long, drawn out process of anxiously waiting.

I was in an hydroplaning accident that totaled my vehicle. Was going below the speed limit due to the weather and hydroplaned into oncoming traffic. Montgomery county charged me with reckless driving. Alan worked the judge down to dismiss the charge with 6 months probation. He's the real deal and will help you out. Thanks AJS Law.

Mr Crewe and his office staff was great to work. My 17 year old daughter had a ticket and Mr Crewe went to court and handled it with the courts and was very nice and respectful to my daughter I would recommend his law firm great lawyers thanks.

Jessica is an excellent attorney who works for your best interest and does not engage in petty issues. She gives sound advice that helps her clients come to the best and most equal division of assets. She is calming when she needs to be and fierce and controlling when the situation calls for it. What I respect most about her was her "high road" tactics and her best interest in her client and her client's children. Divorce is not fun and custody is equally as hard but she made sure that my interests and my child's interests were the most important and not "petty" jabs. Jessica strongly encourages working with opposing parties and finding an agreeable solution. I would recommend her to others and will continue to retain her for as long as I need counsel.

Jessica helped me navigate the divorce process with agility and constantly provided strategic advice. Without her, I know that my divorce settlement would have been much worse. I am a female, successful small business owner who was married to clinical narcissist (who also happened to be a lawyer), so it was a roller coaster ride of his entitlement to my money and his boundless manipulation tactics. In every scenario, Jessica knew what to do, how to react (or not react at all), and what to say. She is nice, intelligent, and a master-mind. Jessica was professional yet friendly and offered invaluable legal advice. She walked me through the pros and cons of different legal avenues I could pursue and was always upfront about what was legally possible. She and her assistant were very responsive to email communication. She also did her best to resolve everything possible out of court to save on legal costs. The Moses law firm took my case despite having circumstances that weren't really in my favor. Prior to hiring them to represent me, I researched several other firms that handle personal injury cases, but the reviews for Moses law firm convinced me to give them a call. I spoke to Mr.Moses and was very impressed with his genuine interest in my circumstances as well as his positive personality. My case was a somewhat complex domestic situation, a misdemeanor charge that could have resulted in jail time. During my first consultation, Senator Surovell listened to my concerns, patiently answered all of my questions, and made suggestions that helped my case. In the intervening months between the charge and my trial, Scott promptly responded to any questions or concerns that came up. Being charged with any crime is scary, and you need a well-informed lawyer to navigate the murky, sometimes treacherous territory of our criminal justice system. I knew that Senator Surovell had a reputation as one of the best defense lawyers in Fairfax County. And he lived up to that reputation Thanks to his skillful handling of my case, the charges were dropped. I could not have asked for a better outcome, and I will be forever grateful for his help during a difficult time in my life. Novelist Raymond Chandler once said, “The law isn’t justice. It’s a very imperfect mechanism. If you press exactly the right buttons and are also lucky, justice may show up in the answer.” Hiring Senator Surovell was exactly the right button to press.

I was charged with a DWI and Civil Refusal back in February and was terrified of the consequences a conviction would entail. Fortunately, a friend referred me to Scott Surovell who agreed to represent me and set a plan in action from our very first call. He helped me understand how the process would take place and our strategy for my defense. As my Court date approached, we continued once before finally going before the Arlington County General District Court. The State Prosecutor had not offered any plea deals so it was to go to trial. Scott was a masterful trial attorney. It was impressive to watch him work and gave me confidence we would come out with a positive ruling. After he dismantled the Prosecution, it was agreed that the Charge would be reduced to Reckless Driving and the Commonwealth would Motion to Nolle Prosequi the Refusal Charge. This was a HUGE relief. I cannot thank Scott enough for his work on my case and would recommend him to anyone seeking a Defense Attorney. 10/10, 5-Stars, 2 thumbs up, the best attorney I have ever interacted with.

By far the best lawyer I ever hired. Even though he is busy with his other duties he was always quick to answer my emails. He got my driving charge reduced by a ton. You want to get your charge reduce you need to hire this lawyer. He will go to bat for you.

Mr. George was so helpful the first time I called his office, he walked me through the protective order process and I felt like someone was on my side. To be fair Mrs. Stubbs is the only divorce lawyer I have worked with but she was amazing! Her entire team was so supportive I truly felt cared about. She held my hand through much of the process answering every question with patience and I always felt protected. My ex husband was not as big of a fan often referring to her as my personal guard dog. I would simply reply with “That’s because you’re on the teeth end, as the one holding the leash I think she is is wonderful.” Mrs. Stubbs & her team were worth every penny, and I never for a moment regretted hiring them. Would give 6 stars if I could.

I was going through a very difficult extended divorce. My first lawyer and I did not see eye-to-eye, I found Lu through a Google search and I am so thankful! Lu took over and fixed everything. My divorce involved a difficult custody battle, military assets, property, retirement accounts, and more. Lu was knowledgeable, sweet, personable, and always showed up ready to battle despite the numerous continuations of the other party. Lu showed an amazing presence with the other attorneys and judges. She always had a light and calmness to her when the situation was so heavy and dark. I am very happy with the outcome of my case. Hired for a family law matter. Should’ve never hired after he failed 3 times to give a proper consultation that didn’t include his own child running around the office while his staff sat & laughed. Lost more than I would’ve representing myself. Communication was horrible, he was late to every appointment, never collected evidence on my case, always has excuses. Knew nothing about my case after having retained him well in advance. Tanked my case the day of court agreeing to what my ex & his lawyer wanted with no regards to anything we’d spoken about. Hadn’t prepared me for court and was trying to get it drawn out even longer. No retainer/attorney-client contract was signed, never given a billing statement as their website says. They only accept cash. He may be good at criminal law but I absolutely do NOT recommend him for family law matters.

I suggest avoiding Charles Billman at all costs. He will take as much money from you and your family as he possibly can (even as a court appointed attorney) and will do as little as he can get away with. He is a horrible lawyer. He gave my partner horrible legal advice, little to no effort/ representation, missed court dates, and this all resulted in my partner going to prison. In my opinion he purposely gave poor legal advice so my partner would be sentenced to prison and Charles Billman would no longer have to work for us (he could turn his attention to scamming other vulnerable people for thousands of dollars and nothing in return.) I personally witnessed and experienced Charles Billman's poor performance in court and his rude attitude towards us for quite some time. He was biased and did not believe in or fight for the innocence of my partner. He is a criminal defense lawyer and acts more like a prosecutor. He put no effort in whatsoever. And was way too friendly towards prosecutors (possible collusion and corruption going on.) He literally did nothing but occasionally show up. He did nothing to defend my partner. He should be ashamed of himself. He is greedy, manipulative, rude, incompetent, a liar, and careless. This law firm should be embarrassed and ashamed for employing him. His legal assistant 'Whitney' is also shockingly rude and offensive. One of the rudest people I've ever met. This law firm, Charles Billman, and his whole team should be investigated for poor performance, bribery, bias, corruption, collusion, incompetence, and fraudulent activities. Shame on you Charles Billman and Harrison & Johnston. My partner and I will never forget how awfully you treated us and failed us and our children. We will never stop fighting for our justice, one way or another.

A bit lacking on customer service and manners. Every time I call them my "hellos", "good mornings" and "have a nice day" are greeted with silence, a hang up click or some snarky response. Do they know they're talking to paying customers? I wonder.... Call me old fashion, but I do appreciate a respectful exchange and greeting. Especially if I am paying top dollar for boilerplate templates I could potentially fill out myself.

Bottom Line - Colleen Haddow is the BEST attorney I could have ever wished for --my only regret is that I didn't start with her from the beginning. Ms. Colleen Haddow came as a recommendation from my previous law firm following failed mediation in a highly complex, contentious, and financially draining divorce and custody case. The opposing counsel - whose professional reputation precedes her as a person devoid of ethics and civility, made finding a willing, capable, and affordable replacement daunting. Colleen personally and immediately took my call for an intake interview. When I opened by informing her of who opposing counsel was, she simply laughed with complete confidence, accepted my case, and immediately got my case moving on the right track. Unlike opposing counsel in this case, Colleen is a legal professional with impeccable integrity and ethics; but not to be confused with someone who submits to bully tactics or shies away from confrontation in or out of the courtroom. In contrast, Ms. Haddow is emotionally intelligent and well versed in the rules of the court to effectively persuade and, if need be, compel cooperation from even the most difficult of personalities. In doing so, she also remained a steadfast, approachable, and responsive attorney (often responding to me within minutes), who consistently addressed my concerns, provided objective perspective, and gave absolute sound guidance amidst the evolving challenges within the case. Keep an eye on your documents with this firm. They will show you documents with acceptable numbers then after you electronically sign or approve, they will change the numbers on you. (AKA "Bait and switch") Their ability to math is bad. I am so angry and frustrated with this firm I'm having a hard time typing this as my hands are shaking.

One star is too many as far as I’m concerned. Involuntarily used them to close on my home as they work with the lenders I used. Closed on the 15th on a brand new home. I get an email on the 24th saying my homeowners insurance (from my closing funds) wasn’t paid by them. Have emailed and called for a week with no response. Had to call today and pay my homeowners insurance immediately out of pocket ($780) since it was CANCELLED due to no payment. Incompetent, unresponsive.

You truly get what you pay for, especially in legal representation. And if your kids mean enough to you you won't think twice about retaining Craig Sampson. A father in a custody battle in VA can be a bad position to be in and bring low expectations regarding the outcome. Craig is the best in the business hands down. Extremely well prepared and has a court presence second to none. He will shine for you if given the opportunity. His pre-trial performance stopped the opposition in their tracks so overwhelmingly, they withdrew the case prior to the actual trial. Where they were not prepared, he was and made that day the trial. The judge acknowledged every point and legal precedent he presented. I can't say enough to truly explain his skill sets and professionalism, but you can witness it yourself. Although this is business, I will be eternally grateful for what he did for me and my daughters ensuring we stayed as one, family.

I'm recently divorced, it was stressful time, my attorney Mellissa Vanzile was so professional and always to the point. She was always compassionate with me, knowing I was stressed out. When we went to the pretrial hearing, Melissa argued professionally to the Judge, and we were able to get him to side with Mrs. Vanzile and myself. Through this process, my ex-wife and I are still friendly and are able to talk freely with each other, I Owe a lot of that to Melissa, because of the way she handled our situation. Also, we have a daughter, son in law and a very special Grandson. My ex and I agree they are three people that are very important. During Holiday, birthdays and special events we will be able to stand in the same room together and especially school events with our Grandson. Omg… saw some reviews AND just had to write. She and Edward Barnes represented me over 14 years ago!!! I was in a custody battled with my ex-girlfriend. Absolutely NO legal, or biological, or relative connection. This person had NO legal ability to try and gain access to my child .. however the courts allowed this case to have “life”. But it was ALL about $$$. Jennifer Crossland and Ed Barnes just went for $$. I was paying over $15,000 a month (it was 2009) to protect me and my biological 4 year old child. It was ILLEGAL what the courts and THIS legal team did to me and my family. They should be disbarred from practice!
