As divorce was starting, I Called numerous times, left voicemails, left messages with the secretary, sent text via the website, emailed through the website, and sent several additional emails. Not a single response from anyone. Now that I need new motions filed on my behalf post divorce, I Called several times and sent another email with once again no response. I don’t think this company/business/whatever it is actually exists.

I was being sued as a co-signer on an old business loan (don't ask). Patric went to work with the other party, an agreement was reached for pennies on the dollar, and I didn't have to go to court. While I wasn't happy about paying, I did sign, and I believe the result was fair for both parties.

Mr Sullivan represented me in a very complicated case. I had a DUI charge, Assualt charge against my ex husbands wife and a dependency case. I could not have asked for someone better or more thorough with everything I was going through. He got everything dropped down and my kids home. He is amazing. Do not hesitate to hire him.

I hired Robert based upon our initial consultation where he stated he was going to hold a court ordered recommendation from the judge and counselor in order to have more parenting time with my daughters. He charged me $3,000 at that point to represent me. On the court date we waited two hours and he never even got us in the court room. I settled my case with my ex-wife between ourselves(where her attorney agreed to draw up the order) with no need from Mr. Sullivan thankfully. He then went on to bill me an additional $1,800. As though my initial $3,000 wasn't enough for accomplishing absolutely nothing on his part . I would never recommend Mr.Sullivan to anyone that is looking to receive quality ,affordable , reliable service in this trade. Over promises and under delivers.

Roy Kranz is just simply an awesome Lawyer. With my case, he got the information he needed, befriended my parents and I, and got the job done. He was friendly and active on our case, and was kind to us in many ways, then went into the court room with teeth barred. He got the case, and he did it fantastically well. He's a very good Lawyer, and overall, is a very good person. :) Highly recommended.

I would not recommend this attorney to anyone. I recently went to him for legal advice in settling an estate after a family member passed away. Robb Ferguson doesn't even know the statutes at the federal or state level that apply to cases involving estates. He couldn't even answer questions I had and seemed very unsure of himself and lacked the competence necessary to be an attorney. Due to the incompetence of this attorney, I ended up hiring another attorney who was far more helpful and knowledgeable about legal issues regarding estates than D. Robb Ferguson.

Gave great advice when our parents passed and helped with my plan for my children in the event I passed. He represented me when I had an issue with a contractor and got all of our money back. He is an honest, dependable, stable attorney. He pulls no punches in telling you where you stand and possible outcomes.

I was charged with two felonies back in 2015, and my attorney at the time was Paul Tylenda. Based on our initial meeting, I had reason to believe he would be a good choice to represent me. Well, come time for my probably cause hearing, AND my preliminary exam- Mr Tylenda did NOT show up to represent me. Instead, I had to have an attorney who had worked on a case right before mine represent me. And yes... I paid Mr Tylenda for the services he DID provide, but when he decided to not arrive to BOTH of my court dates, I felt there was absolutely nothing he should’ve been paid for besides obtaining the discovery. The only hearing he was not late for was the motion I had filed for early release from probation. That one he managed to be present for... gotta show up for that last court date to make the claim that you represented me to your best ability, I guess? I look back on this, five years later, and realize that I was too young to have allowed this attorney to take advantage of my time & naivety. If this had happened again, I simply would have just not paid him at all.

I was sentenced to Macomb County Jail. Now my exact sentence was very confusing because of the unprofessionalism of the Prosecutor and Court Clerks yelling and cursing at my Defense Attorney at the time (Court Appointed). I was released from Jail on Probation 12 days later. After 9 months of reporting to Probation and paying over a thousand dollars in restitution, my Probation Officer calls me and tells me I need to turn myself in to do a year in the county jail and that there was a clerical error! I called Paul Tylenda and did not turn myself in. I went to Court and got a Date set. Paul was more than helpful and in communicating my situation and is still working on a solution to my case. I will update the out come of yet another mess up by Macomb County Courts.

I hired Mr. Hurst for one thing and he represented me for another. He seemed very OCD and did not call you back when you call. I am not sure If I would fully recommend him. I would make sure that he is passionate about your case before you hire him. I sensed he may take cases on for the money and then not really want them. I parted with him on good terms but I paid him a lot of money and hired a new lawyer to do what I had hired him for. I would say Buyer beware! He could be good if he is interested but bad if he is not in your case.

In 2015, I hired Dennis Hurst to defend a referee’s recommendation regarding support. The referee’s recommendation included a small amount of support to be paid by my ex and a stipulation that he could not use alcohol while in the presence of the two minor children involved. My ex objected to the referee’s recommended order and requested for my income to impute at an astronomical amount that I’ve never made and for the alcohol stipulation to be removed. Through, what I was thought to believe was my “representation” we filed an answer requesting for their objections to be thrown out because there was documented police reports and CPS reports showing that my ex’s home is violent, I’ve never made that much money, and they filed their objections on the 22nd day (1 day past the 21 day deadline). In closing, at the hearing, my attorney, Dennis Hurst didn’t base his statement off of what we had filed and agreed to, but said that my ex “did deserve a de novo hearing”. I honestly believe that it should have been an open and shut case and would have been if my attorney didn’t end with that closing comment. Another hearing was scheduled. When I expressed my surprise at what he had said while we were walking out Mr. Hurst told me that he did that for a reason and because my ex was “the most difficult person he had ever dealt with” he was going to give me ½ off for the next hearing ($750). Red flags went up but I felt as if I was between a “rock and a hard place”. Mr. Hurst then gave me a gigantic list of things to get ready for the hearing; things like average wage and salary information, finding out what the FOC used, and even delivering exhibits to my ex’s attorney. Mr. Hurst had me omit things that I really thought were relevant to my case as well. The judge did not end up making a decision at the hearing. A few weeks later, I asked Mr. Hurst if he had heard anything, he told me that the judge must not have gotten to it yet. This went on for over 3 months before I finally called the courthouse myself. That is when the courthouse informed me that the paperwork accidentally got put away and that the judge didn’t even have it on his list of things to do. In the long run, my-ex got his alcohol stipulation removed and my income imputed at a number that he pulled out of the sky. I did end up firing Mr. Hurst. In the interim, I filed my own objections and at one of the hearings, Mr. Hurst approached my ex’s attorney right in front of me and said, “hey, (unmentioned name) did you get the client I sent you yesterday? I really feel as if Mr. Hurst always had his own agenda and what was best for him and his business at heart. I don’t believe that Mr. Hurst did one thing that helped me on my case and feel as if I paid him for extra counsel for my ex. Also, I did file a grievance with the Attorney Grievance Commission and when Mr. Hurst sent his response, he of course mentioned the stuff he really did but also took credit for work that I had performed. The commission did not find that he did anything wrong.

This attorney was horrible. She was never available and always rushing me out of her office when I had to start making payments. She had me doing most of her work. Her office assistant requested information from me and would always say that the attorney needs it by tomorrow. Sometimes it was documents that I had to get from entities that could not get it to me by tomorrow. Both the attorney and her office assistant were VERY rude to me and my family. The attorney did not educate and support me in my case, she made me feel like I was on my own. The only thing that she was interested in was the money and she was definitely not worth it. The outcome of my case ended up being the same as if I had not had an attorney at all. What a waste of $8,000. Go with a better attorney who really works for YOU, not just the money.

She is rude and only makes matters worst. She charges you for mistakes in her paperwork typed by her daughter. She got my divorce case dismissed for lack of activity making so I had to hire and pay for a second attorney. With two minor children and the six month waiting period I didn't get credit for time served. Terrible and shouldn't be allowed to practice law at all. She made mistake after mistake and I got to pay for every one and she didn't even get me divorced and she was paid in full and than for all her mistakes, her phone call etc... after hiring her I spoke with several people who had very bad experiences as well.

I am currently looking for an attorney and came across this giving her (only one review) giving her a decent rating, which I in the interest of anyone would strongly advise don't waste your time or money- that is exactly the case- She was my first divorce attorney (I say 1st because of her lack of doing her job the case was dismissed for inactivity) therefore causing me to hire a second attorney and paying for the divorce again- minor children were involved and I did not receive credit for time served for the first attempt therefore requiring me to wait another six month waiting period for it to be final- She made mistakes in typing paperwork example being having plaintiff and defendant mixed up and other sloppy mistakes but the best part is I was charged for the time it took to correct her mistakes!!! and for the phone call asking why would I be charged for her mistakes- all because she failed to do her job in any way she took over a tenth of my $900.00 a month disability income that was supporting three people at that time because she can't type or proof read and will charge you for a phone call asking why I have a bill for a $100?- and ultimately costing me a whole new lawyer and time because first for dismissed because she didn't do anything- It was "dismissed for lack of activity" but yet call to ask why and you will be paying more- I swore at the time I would report her to the board for something I am forgetting right now and wish I could but I am only spending my time doing this to hopefully save someone from a HUGE MISTAKE which would be to hire her-

What a Government Lawyer Can Do for You

A government lawyer specializes in legal issues related to government policies, regulations, and disputes involving public entities. Whether you are a private individual, business, or government agency, a government lawyer provides expert guidance on navigating the complexities of government law. These attorneys handle cases ranging from constitutional law, administrative law, regulatory compliance, and government contracts to defending or challenging government actions.

Government lawyers help individuals and organizations understand their rights and obligations under the law, represent them in disputes with government agencies, and assist in matters of government contracting, procurement, or public policy.

When Should I Hire a Government Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a government lawyer in several situations involving government regulations, compliance, or disputes. Common reasons to hire a government lawyer include:

  • Government contracts and procurement: If you are bidding for or negotiating a contract with a government agency, a lawyer can help ensure compliance with federal, state, or local contracting rules.
  • Regulatory compliance: Businesses operating in highly regulated industries (e.g., healthcare, finance, environmental sectors) often need legal guidance to comply with government regulations and avoid penalties.
  • Government investigations: If you're being investigated by a government agency such as the IRS, SEC, or EPA, a government lawyer can help defend you against allegations or negotiate settlements.
  • Challenging government actions: If a government agency has denied a permit, license, or benefit, a lawyer can help you appeal or challenge the decision in court.
  • Constitutional and civil rights issues: If you believe your constitutional rights have been violated by a government entity, such as in cases involving free speech or discrimination, a government lawyer can help you seek justice.
  • Public policy or lobbying efforts: If you are involved in lobbying or advocating for policy changes at the local, state, or federal level, a government lawyer can provide legal advice on compliance with lobbying laws and strategies for effective advocacy.

Hiring a government lawyer early in the process can help you navigate complex legal frameworks and avoid costly mistakes when dealing with government-related legal issues.

What Does a Government Lawyer Do?

A government lawyer provides a wide range of services that cover interactions between individuals, businesses, and government entities. They can:

  • Assist with government contracts: Helping clients navigate procurement laws, drafting contracts, and resolving disputes related to government contracting.
  • Provide regulatory compliance advice: Offering guidance on meeting regulatory requirements for industries subject to federal, state, or local laws.
  • Handle administrative law matters: Representing clients before government agencies, such as appealing administrative decisions, applying for permits, or defending against regulatory enforcement actions.
  • Challenge or defend government actions: Representing clients in lawsuits involving government agencies, including constitutional challenges, civil rights violations, or disputes over government decisions.
  • Negotiate settlements with government entities: If a government agency is pursuing legal action against you or your business, a lawyer can negotiate settlements to avoid costly litigation.
  • Advocate for policy changes: Advising clients on legal strategies for influencing public policy, including lobbying and drafting legislation.
  • Litigate constitutional issues: Handling cases related to the Constitution, such as First Amendment rights, due process violations, or unlawful government actions.

How Are Government Lawyers Paid?

Government lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the nature of the legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: For ongoing legal matters, such as regulatory compliance or government contract disputes, lawyers may charge by the hour. Hourly rates can vary depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For specific services, such as drafting a government contract or filing an administrative appeal, some lawyers charge a flat fee.
  • Retainer: For clients who need ongoing legal support, such as businesses frequently interacting with government agencies, a lawyer may charge a retainer fee. This is an upfront payment that covers future legal services.
  • Contingency fee: In some cases involving litigation, such as civil rights violations, a lawyer may work on a contingency basis, meaning they only get paid if they win or settle the case.

It’s important to discuss fee structures with your lawyer during the initial consultation to avoid surprises.

How Much Does a Government Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a government lawyer depends on the complexity of the legal issue, the lawyer's experience, and their fee structure. Here are some general cost estimates:

  • Hourly rates: Government lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For specific legal services, such as drafting a government contract, flat fees can range from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on the nature of the service.
  • Retainer fees: A retainer for ongoing legal work with government agencies can range from $5,000 to $20,000 or more, depending on the scope and frequency of the work.
  • Contingency fees: In cases where a lawyer works on contingency, their fee is usually a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or damages awarded if the case is successful.

Be sure to get a clear estimate of costs during your consultation to ensure that you understand the fees associated with your case.

Top Questions to Ask a Government Lawyer

When hiring a government lawyer, it’s essential to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and skills needed for your specific situation. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What is your experience with government law cases?
Make sure the lawyer has substantial experience in handling cases or issues involving government agencies, regulatory compliance, or constitutional law.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services - whether by the hour, flat fee, retainer, or contingency fee - and request an estimate of costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your legal options and the likelihood of success based on your specific situation.
  4. How do you handle interactions with government agencies?
Ask about their approach to dealing with government entities and their experience with specific agencies relevant to your case (e.g., IRS, EPA, SEC).
  5. Have you handled cases like mine before?
Ask about their experience with similar cases and whether they have achieved favorable outcomes in the past.
  6. Who will handle my case?
Clarify whether the lawyer you are meeting with will personally handle your case or whether junior attorneys or paralegals will do most of the work.

How to Check the Credibility of a Government Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a reputable government lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Review their professional experience: Look for specific experience in government-related legal issues, such as regulatory compliance, government contracts, or administrative law, on their website or professional profile.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Check online reviews and ratings on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to get insight into the lawyer’s reputation and track record.
  • Ask for references: Request references from previous clients who have worked with the lawyer on government-related matters to understand their experience and effectiveness.
  • Check for membership in relevant organizations: Look for memberships in professional organizations such as the American Bar Association's Administrative Law Section or the National Institute of Government Procurement, which can indicate the lawyer’s focus on government law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with a government lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant information and documents. Here’s what you should bring:
