She is very talented and dedicated lawyer. She unlike other lawyers spent time understanding and discussing my case. My case was considered difficult by many famed lawyers and they we very unsure so they did not want to spend time on my case. Andrea was kind enough to dedicate her time and wit .I had a VAWA case with very few substantial evidences. Andrea has good knowledge of law and she answered any doubts I had and when we filed I knew she has given her best and there was nothing more that could have been done. My green card is approved and I am very thankful to Andrea.

This man is very awesome. Before I had met my husband, he had already got most of my inlaws papers fixed. By the time I was with my husband, it was just my husband and his immediate family who needed their papers fixed. They waited about 15 years. Stuck it out with Russell and tried so many different options. And finally were able to get their residency. It might seem like he charges a lot. But compared to other lawyers who offer a low price in the beginning, and then stick it to you later, he has good well rounded price for his services. Very good and understanding person.

I went to see Kelley before I sent in my application for I - 130 & my I - 485 adjustment status. I had been advised before but I was misled by the professionals I meet with. From the moment I started talking to Kelley I felt comfortable & secure she even went the extra mile to help me & make me feel prepared. She gave me great advice for my meeting with Immigration. I was nervous & had very little idea what to expect. Kelley was extremely friendly and helpful from the moment I met her. I felt she walked me thru each step of what was going to happen and where there might be problems. With each problem she helped me understand the cure. Her knowledge of the laws and changes were amazing & her advice was very clear. She made my wife & I feel very comfortable & that we were the most important thing she was working on. She was very detailed I would recommend her to anybody with immigration issues. I have told my family to contact her which I would not do if I felt any other way.

I am proud to get to write the very first review on Erika's profile and she deserves every word of it. Erika Gonzalez is, by far, the best lawyer I have ever met in my life and I wholeheartedly recommend her. I have met several attorneys ( family matters) and I cannot begin to tell you how unprofessional and totally uncommitted they were. Erika is a woman of few words but boy did she get the job done for me! She listens to you, asks targeted questions, takes notes of details, the dates, the places, etc. She then asks you to write the narrative of the events, comes back to you for more details, search for previous cases of this kind, references, etc and she builds her case. All this is obviously very well prepared and it WORKS. It took her 3 months and 2 weeks to win my case and for being in touch with many people in my situation, I can tell you that solving this type of issue in less than a year is totally unprecedented. When Erika took care of my case she was just beginning her career, and she was already brilliant. I can only imagine what an outstandingly powerful lawyer she will become in the future. Do not search any further Erika is the woman for the job. I am forever grateful.

So many friends and former clients referred me to an attorney who can "perform miracles" and I desperately needed one, for mine was an exceptionally complex case. It turned out they were right. Whatever I say will fall short of duly praising Mr. Douglas Lehrman whom I will never forget. He is indeed a genius, well deserving of the legendary reputation he enjoys.

Maria is the best immigration attorney I have ever had. I would not be able to receive my O-1 visa approval without her help. I highly recommend any foreign artist who wants to obtain an O1 visa to work with Maria Saenz Law. I had worked with two other attorneys on my O-1 visa application before I met Maria. The first one dropped my case unexpectedly after she took the attorney fee, the second one mishandled my application materials and stopped communicating with me after she realized my previous visa application result letter went missing from the USCIS during the pandemic. I was really frustrated and didn't believe in any lawyer due to the unfortunate situations I encountered until I reached out to Maria. Ever since my first phone consultation with Maria in winter 2020, she has been so generously sharing her professional insight ,kindness and patience with me throughout every step of my application. She is always responsive to my questions and concerns, and is compassionate towards my situation. Most importantly, She is an expert in the immigration law and is willing to take time to communicate with me even the night before my visa interview. Thank you so much Maria :)) You are the best!

I was referred to Micheal Bhotiwihok by a family member who told me about a case he had dealt with an won in Florida. He was highly praised for his professionalism, expertise, and charisma in court. I decided to retain him for myself and he displayed the same characteristics. I had a million questions to ask on different occasions, and he would always respond to my calls and emails and answer those questions. Even after my case was finished he still checked on me to see how things were going, and gave advise as needed. For that reason, he is still number one (1) in my book! :)

Irving is one of the most thoughtful and caring attorneys that I have had the opportunity to work with. He will go above and beyond to ensure you are taken care of and spend time explaining complex topics. He has an excellent aptitude for giving weight and time to only what is important, allowing him to move your matter along with speed and agility. He was raised in Mexico and is a native Spanish speaker, which is rare to find in an attorney, and makes him a particularly unique and valuable asset in the international business and immigration practice areas. I would hire him again without hesitation.

My wife and I used Nusrat's help to file our asylum application - and I can't think of any smoother way it could have gone! During the initial consultation we got a full understanding that she knows what she is doing. She knew all the rules, requirements and processes - and she made sure we did not skip or forget any steps. She answered all of our questions (even the annoying ones) and was in touch to clarify anything when we needed to. It took about 6 months from initial consultation to the day we filed and then it took only 2 months to get approved. From my experience, it is very hard to find an attorney that would actually care about your personal situation and the case outcome. Nusrat, however, was extremely understanding on a personal level, she acknowledged that it was a very important case for our lives and I could tell that she cared about the result and about our future. Our friend recommended Nusrat to us initially and now we keep recommending her services to everyone we know.

I am very thankful to have found Rose Kasusky (Thompson) She appeared when I thought everything was lost and had no more hope. I made a mistake a few years ago and hired a lawyer to help me with my case. The judge said it was a simple case that All I needed to do is have my lawyer turn in all my paper work on time and it would all be solved. Little did I know I trusted the wrong lawyer and instead of helping me I ended up with a deportation order and felt betrayed I never thought a lawyer would do something like that. So I had a deportation order and I let a few years pass I didn't want to look for another lawyer I didn't know if I could trust anyone and was scared. In the end I knew I needed a new lawyer and started looking for one and I called many and they would all say that my situation was very hard and that it was almost impossible to open my case again since it was closed and I had that order. I was so sad and depressed I didn't know who else to turn to and then I saw another lawyer named Lillia Velasquez on T.V and I went to her office and she told me she would take my case but she was very busy and that my case needed attention As soon as possible. Then she told me that she knew a person who could help me Rose Kasusky she was a few doors down from Mrs. Velazquez. I went down to her and she greeted my husband my mother and Me with a smile and made us comfortable. Then she asked about my situation looked into it and also told me that it was a very difficult situation but that she would help me. THANK GOD!! She did in less then a week what the other lawyer could not do in 2 years she gathered up all the paper work and sent her assistant with me to immigration the day I had to turn my self in. The reason she sent her assistant was that she was already working on a case and had to help that person in court I believe but she left me with such hope that I was not afraid to go and talk to them with all the paper work she gave me. I went and told one of. The supervisors about my situation and how I was not helped the first time she asked me for my previous lawyers name and let me go. They opened my case up again and Rose did such an amazing job I still can not believe all she did for me. My case was done in 2013 with a great over turn and I can not express my gratefulness to Rose she sure went way beyond her way as a lawyer and made what most lawyers said was impossible possible. Thank you so much!!

I was originally referred to Mr. Bejar in 2010. I had a consultation with Mr. Bejar and I was very impressed and made me feel confident in my case. At this time, I had been to a consultation with another immigration attorney. Because I was in a difficult financial situation at the time, I decided to go with the other attorney to represent me in my immigration case. I 100% regret the decision I made to not have Mr. Bejar represent me. My attorney made a mistake with my case and brought so much stress to my life with more expenses. I obviously did not trust my attorney any more so I decided to visit The Law Office of Jan Joseph Bejar and hoped they could help me fix the mistake made by another attorney. My consultation was with Nicole Leon. Ms. Leon was very upfront and did not make me false promises. She was very nice and honest. She kept me in the loop throughout the whole process which I greatly appreciated! Nicole was able to successfully fix the mistake my other attorney made and I am now a US Citizen thanks to her. Moral of the story: you get what you pay for. Saving a few bucks is not worth a mistake that can affect you for the rest of your life. I am so grateful for this law office. I will continue to recommend this law office to everyone I know. Thank you Ms. Leon and Mr. Bejar!

What an Immigration Lawyer Can Do for You

An immigration lawyer specializes in helping individuals, families, and businesses navigate the complex immigration process. These lawyers provide legal guidance on various immigration matters, such as obtaining visas, gaining permanent residency (green cards), applying for citizenship, and defending clients in deportation or removal proceedings. Immigration lawyers also assist with employment-based immigration, asylum applications, and resolving issues related to visas or immigration status.

Whether you're trying to immigrate to the U.S., facing deportation, or sponsoring an employee or family member for a visa, an immigration lawyer can help you understand your legal options and navigate the often complicated legal system.

When Should I Hire an Immigration Lawyer?

Hiring an immigration lawyer is beneficial in many situations where you are dealing with U.S. immigration laws, whether for personal or business reasons. Common reasons to hire an immigration lawyer include:

  • Visa applications: If you need assistance applying for a visa, whether it's a work visa (H-1B), student visa (F-1), or tourist visa (B-1/B-2), a lawyer can help ensure the application is properly completed and submitted.
  • Green card applications: If you're seeking permanent residency, an immigration lawyer can guide you through the process, whether through family sponsorship, employment, or the Diversity Visa (lottery) program.
  • Deportation or removal defense: If you’re facing deportation or removal from the U.S., a lawyer can defend your case in immigration court and seek to prevent removal.
  • Asylum applications: If you’re seeking asylum due to persecution or fear of persecution in your home country, a lawyer can help you prepare a strong case and file for asylum.
  • Family reunification: If you're a U.S. citizen or permanent resident looking to bring family members to the U.S., a lawyer can assist with the family sponsorship process.
  • Citizenship and naturalization: If you're ready to apply for U.S. citizenship, a lawyer can help you navigate the naturalization process and ensure you meet all the requirements.
  • Business immigration: If you're an employer seeking to hire foreign workers, a lawyer can assist with employment-based visas, labor certification, and compliance with immigration regulations.
  • Special immigration categories: Immigration lawyers also handle complex cases, such as visas for victims of human trafficking (T visa), crime victims (U visa), or those seeking Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

Hiring an immigration lawyer early in the process can help you avoid delays, errors, and possible denials due to incomplete or incorrect applications.

What Does an Immigration Lawyer Do?

An immigration lawyer provides a wide range of services to help clients with their immigration needs, whether personal or business-related. Their tasks often include:

  • Assisting with visa applications: Helping clients fill out and submit visa applications, ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Filing for green cards and permanent residency: Guiding clients through the process of applying for a green card, including family-based, employment-based, or other forms of residency.
  • Defending against deportation or removal: Representing clients in immigration court who are facing deportation and working to prevent removal from the U.S.
  • Preparing asylum cases: Assisting clients in applying for asylum based on fear of persecution in their home country due to race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group.
  • Handling citizenship applications: Helping lawful permanent residents apply for naturalization and ensuring they meet all the legal requirements for U.S. citizenship.
  • Employment-based immigration: Assisting employers with the process of sponsoring foreign workers for temporary or permanent visas, including H-1B, L-1, and EB-1 through EB-5 visas.
  • Representation in immigration interviews: Preparing clients for immigration interviews and attending interviews at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) offices.
  • Appealing denied applications: If a visa, green card, or citizenship application is denied, a lawyer can file appeals or motions to reopen or reconsider the case.

How Are Immigration Lawyers Paid?

Immigration lawyers generally charge for their services based on the type of immigration case and the complexity of the legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: Many immigration lawyers charge a flat fee for specific services, such as preparing a visa application, green card petition, or citizenship application. Flat fees help clients know upfront what the legal costs will be for a particular service.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex cases, such as deportation defense or appeals, some lawyers charge by the hour. Hourly rates vary depending on the lawyer's experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Retainer: For ongoing immigration matters, some clients may need to pay a retainer, which is an upfront payment billed against as the lawyer works on the case.
  • Pro bono or sliding scale: Some immigration lawyers or nonprofit organizations may offer free or low-cost services for clients with limited financial means, particularly in asylum or humanitarian cases.

It’s essential to discuss the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the costs and payment arrangements.

How Much Does an Immigration Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an immigration lawyer varies based on the type of legal service required, the lawyer's experience, and the complexity of the case. General cost estimates include:

  • Visa applications: For help with visa applications (e.g., H-1B, L-1, F-1), legal fees may range from $2,000 to $7,500, depending on the complexity and the type of visa.
  • Green card applications: Fees for family-based or employment-based green card applications typically range from $3,000 to $10,000, depending on the case.
  • Deportation defense: For defending clients in removal proceedings, costs can range from $5,000 to $15,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case and how long the case takes.
  • Asylum cases: Asylum applications may range from $2,000 to $10,000, depending on whether the case is defensive (in removal proceedings) or affirmative (not in removal proceedings).
  • Citizenship applications: Legal fees for filing a naturalization application usually range from $1,500 to $5,000, depending on the complexity of the client’s immigration history.
  • Business immigration services: Fees for assisting businesses with employment-based visas (such as H-1B or EB-5 visas) often range from $3,000 to $10,000 or more.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of costs and fee arrangements before proceeding with legal services.

Top Questions to Ask an Immigration Lawyer

Before hiring an immigration lawyer, it's essential to ask questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your case effectively. Important questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with immigration cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it’s family-based immigration, employment visas, or asylum.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a flat fee, hourly rate, or retainer, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case and the potential outcomes, including any challenges you might face.
  4. How long will the process take?
Immigration cases can take time, so ask how long it may take to process your application or resolve your legal issue.
  5. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of your case. Make sure you know who will be working on your case directly.
  6. What documents do I need to provide?
Ask the lawyer about the documentation required to support your case, such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, or employment contracts.

How to Check the Credibility of an Immigration Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable immigration lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Check their state bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for specific immigration law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in immigration law and have experience handling cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their ability to handle immigration cases.
  • Check for industry affiliations: Membership in organizations like the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) can indicate the lawyer’s expertise and commitment to immigration law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an immigration lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Passport and immigration documents: Bring your passport, visa, and any documents related to your current immigration status.
  • Family documents: If you're applying for a family-based visa or green card, bring marriage certificates, birth certificates, and proof of family relationships.
  • Employment information: For employment-based visas, provide your employment contract, offer letter, or other documentation of your job.
  • Criminal records (if applicable): If you have any criminal history, bring copies of court records and other relevant documents.
  • Timeline of events: Provide a clear timeline of any prior immigration applications, visas, or issues with immigration authorities.
  • List of questions: Prepare any questions you have about your immigration case, the process, costs, and the likelihood of success.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer understand your case more effectively and get the best possible legal advice on how to proceed.
