You’d be lucky to have Leanne Martinez on your team. She came highly recommended from a friend of a friend. I came to her after feeling helpless from another law firm. The previous law firm did very little and was incredibly hard to get ahold of. Leanne was the exact opposite. She’s incredibly smart, asks very in depth questions, very well prepared and overall will make you feel like you matter. She was easy to get ahold of and always calls/ emails back. I’m incredibly grateful for her and her team. You can’t go wrong with her on your legal team.

I was appalled at the way Amy Gilbrough treated me as a potential client let alone a veteran. I already go through the ringer with the VA and now this, it's very unfortunate. Sorry I forgot to inform you at the start of the conversation with that I have a hearing disability. I would not recommend, which is unfortunate because I was recommend to them🤦‍♂️

I would recommend these lawyers to anyone needing Personal Injury litigation. Allen McKenzie is a great attorney and did his due diligence in presenting our successful counter claim. He found paperwork to prove our case that I was surprised he was able to obtain. Again, Mr McKenzie did a great job litigating my case!

I was represented by Mr. Richard Wooster of Kram & Wooster for a civil case involving a wrongful termination from 2015 to settlement in 2018. After a short consultation Mr. Wooster took me on as a client. From the beginning Mr. Wooster listened to me as I explain what I experienced with my employer and quickly identified a number of occasions where my rights had been ignored or deliberately violated. He then went on the attack on my behalf. First filing a complaint with the EEOC that a law suit in federal court. As my case proceed during this process we met regularly in person and by phone and I was always kept informed with all matter regarding the status of my case and what to expect next. Whenever I had a question or became anxious he would talk me through my options and assure me the we were in control of the process. He went to great lengths to explain important legal terms and procedures to me and my family so that we could remain calm and confident throughout the process. He coached and prepared me for my deposition and for trail. However, he was able to obtain a generous settlement for me and avoid trail. Mr. Wooster knows how to use the law to his clients advantage. He was not intimidated by judges or the big dollar corporate attorneys that my employer threw at us and never let anyone take advantage of me. His experience and understanding of the legal process meant nothing caught us by surprised or unprepared. He kept all financial matters and transactions involving my case open and transparent. I received regular invoices detailing cost, fees etc and explanations for them. All fees, and expense were discussed and determined by me to be fair and reasonable. I could not have been more satisfied with my experience at Kram & Wooster. When they represent you they are completely on your side. Mr. Wooster managed every aspect of my case with great professionalism, confidence and poise. The entire staff at Kram & Wooster treated me and my family with dignity and great concern. I'd give them 10 STARS if I could. The outcome they helped me obtain really changed my life.

I was a victim of crime 20 years ago, Mrs. Buttar advised me to get my police report so I could apply for a U-Visa. Even though it was a long time back she still encouraged me to get the report and try, I now have my Green Card Thanks to Mrs.Buttar. She's a great attorney and she was very supportive during the process of my case.

Went with Buttar told us we would have our immigration status up to date with in a year and totally wrong. Would have us drive 4 hours to see her just to give us info she could have just given over the phone. Went to a lawyer closer to home and the lawyer reviewed our case. Turns out Buttar filled out our paperwork wrong and sent it to the wrong immigration office. Here we are 2 years later still awaiting approval to continue with the process because the paperwork was filled out wrong from the begging.

Mr. Browning, in my opinion, is one of the best lawyers you can get. He is always looking at both sides to be ready for a response in any case. The communication between the two of us was amazing! He consistently gave me updates and always gave great advice. He worked so hard on my case, even with him being injured during my case, he never failed. I could ask any question and he was never mad or irritated with it. Mr. Browning is very thoughtful about everyone’s feelings and desires when it comes to getting results. During all this for me, he has alleviated all the stress that I normally would be dealing with and I am, and will always be, extremely grateful towards this! I recommend him 100%!

As a former Board Director in my HOA, I worked with Stephen Smith for over four years. I found Stephen respectful, timely, easy to communicate with, and very helpful in answering my questions about the HOA statutes. When I didn't understand, he was always willing to walk me through the information until it was clear to me. Stephen was able to draft our first policies for collections and fines. He reviewed governing documents and made suggestions to help align with statutes. I would highly recommend Stephen to any HOA who needed solid and easy to understand information to assist them in their duties.

Unknowledgeable, Way Too Expensive, Dropped the Ball and Miserably Failed Us Paid $3,500 for absolutely nothing accomplished! Lacked basic knowledge and failed to get it yet charged a fee for nothing but excuses. Charge for reading and sending every email, even though the staff were not well trained to explain important information. Cancelled twice at last minute and was always providing unencouraging depressing hopelessness. Finally dropped me for complaining. THIS IS THE TYPE OF ATTORNEY WE WERE ALL WARNED ABOUT! Steve Teller represented me on a case that we closed just today. While I don't know him well (yet), I am extremely impressed with both his persona and practice. He went out of his way to be extraordinarily respectful of some of my differences, and genuinely fought hard for me. Our opponent on the case was a massive corporation that had first wronged me, then tried to deny their wrongdoing, and finally they brought terrifying and unscrupulous lawyers to their side of the table to muddy the waters with counteraccusations and vile lies. But unlike 90% of attorneys out there, I believe Steve truly cares about the Little Guy and he really went to bat for me on a case that I thought was hopeless at times- fighting against a dug-in Goliath with limitless resources. But Steve never quit advocating for me, and in the end we eked out a modest victory. Even though we achieved merely a moderate settlement that was not necessarily lifechanging money, I couldn't have felt more happy and vindicated (and plan to put that couple thousand G's to good use). While I can't speak for how every case goes, or to the ultimate depths and breadths of his legal acumen, this case here did Steve Teller Law some serious credit... And I can't thank you enough, Steve.

I am very grateful today for the knowledge and help of Mark Gouras. I think he is likely the best of the best family law attorneys. His assistant, Morgan, is very responsive and helpful as well. Good people here. Highly recommend.

I hired Mark Gouras as my divorce lawyer in August of 2021. My divorce was difficult for me. He was welcoming and I felt secure hiring him. I checked around with other lawyers but I'm glad I went with him. Mr. Gouras was professional and I didn't feel swindled or cheated out of my time or money; one of my chief worries when I started looking for a lawyer. My case wasn't straight forward but I felt like I was being represented by someone with more than enough experience. Do not go with just any lawyer. Bad/cheap lawyers will cost you more in the long run when it comes to divorces. I cannot recommend him enough to anyone who needs his services. I came out the other side of this ordeal feeling better than I would've assumed and it was because of him and his paralegal. He absolutely made a positive difference in my life and future prospects.

After having moved to Canada Terry Preshaw has helped me attain and maintain a travel document that allows me to keep my green card and work in the States. There are many tricky elements involved in this process. With patience, diligence and clarity Terry guided me through every step. She is an open and deeply caring human being who has stood right by my side in times of complications. Every problem I encountered Terry was able to solve; she helped me stay calm and I felt reassured that things were being taken care of by a professional who is highly resourceful and competent.

I hired Terry upon a referral from a friend. My immigration process took 2 1/2 years from start to finish. Right from the very beginning Terry was very professional, kind and patient. Terry always made time for me when I had a question that her assistant couldn't answer for me ( which wasn't very often ). She never made me feel like any question was too small or unimportant. Terry kept me calm whenever I would get nervous or impatient. Miss Preshaw's philosophy is simple " never lie and always be transparent" for if we are transparent then we have nothing to hide, therefore we have no reason to lie. I can't say enough good things about Terry and her staff. From start to finish they were there for me 100% of the way. Terry and her assistant Ann-Elise would always put things back into perspective for me. I will be forever grateful to them both for going above and beyond in helping to make my immigration process go as smoothly as possible. I have referred a couple of people to miss Preshaw's office and will continue to do so in the future. Two thumbs up from me...keep up the good work Terry!

I really needed an attorney to help me amend a number of critical documents when experiencing a major change in my personal life. I just walked into the Scarff Law offices one morning after googling a family lawyer close to where I was at the time. I had the best experience from start to finish, with my first interaction being with Beth Miller and the rest of my experience being with Elizabeth Runtz. I could not have asked for, or received, better support both from a legal and inter-personal perspective. Elizabeth truly cared and showed immense empathy - all with a wonderful sense of humor. She has amazing support from the senior partners when she believes she needs it and I could not recommend her and the team at Scarff law highly enough. Many many thanks Elizabeth.

Mr. Ewetuga is very good at what he does. I went to him in a panic because a past creditor had my wages garnished for an account that they thought was still outstanding. I knew I had paid off this account and fortunately, I kept all of my paperwork from three years ago. During our consultation, he recommended that I take action and contact the creditor first to let them know I paid the debt. Then I should fax over the documents showing them proof it was paid since the first collection agency failed to follow up with the original creditor. If that didn't work, then we would proceed to plan B. After gathering my thoughts, I went home and did what he instructed. I contacted the creditor, explained the situation, and faxed over the documents. A little bit later, I called back to make sure they received everything. They then explained to me that they faxed this information over to my employer to withdraw the garnishment, and they would stop collection efforts. That really made my day! I have never experienced wage garnishment before, and I was upset and full of anxiety that collections came after me again after I paid off this debt, but Mr. Ewetuga knew exactly what to do! I know some attorneys would have figured out a way to just drag this out and charge me a huge bill, but his payment was definitely reasonable as well as his services. Thank you Mr. Ewetuga!

Explained the issue and paid $$$, for a consultation just for the Lawyer to tell me they couldn't help because this is Kitsap county and we needed Pierce County. I feel that would have been nice to know when I explained the situation prior to making the appointment for the phone consult. Maked me feel they just wanted to get an extra $$$.

I thank God that Erica came into my life! If you are looking for a person who will fight for you, not give up, and win, then I say look no further! I was going through one of the most painful times in my life. My kids, my retirement and my name was on the line and she did not once give up on me. Erica went above and beyond what you would expect a lawyer to do, which is not only for fight, but fight with her heart and conviction! She believed in me, when I did not believe in myself, and showed the judge that I was not the person who I was portrayed to be. If you were like me, going through hell, I suggest you give her a call. On a personal note: Please don't give up on yourself, there is always another day and one day you too, shall find happiness again. Thank you from the bottom of my heart Erica!

Erica doesn’t seem to know family law or the court system. Due her her negligence, my divorce case is drawn out an additional 4 months. I switched lawyers due to her excessive billing. After going through the court process with another attorney for comparison, I am more confident that Erica is lacking in knowledge and over bills for her time.

10 years in pending, Roman doesn’t care about it, he will always say: Nothing new, still waiting…. If you care about your future in US, please don’t waist your time and resources with this company, and choose someone who is expert in immigration services. Sorry Roman - But too much careless professionalism from your side. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS BUSINESS.

What an Immigration Lawyer Can Do for You

An immigration lawyer specializes in helping individuals, families, and businesses navigate the complex immigration process. These lawyers provide legal guidance on various immigration matters, such as obtaining visas, gaining permanent residency (green cards), applying for citizenship, and defending clients in deportation or removal proceedings. Immigration lawyers also assist with employment-based immigration, asylum applications, and resolving issues related to visas or immigration status.

Whether you're trying to immigrate to the U.S., facing deportation, or sponsoring an employee or family member for a visa, an immigration lawyer can help you understand your legal options and navigate the often complicated legal system.

When Should I Hire an Immigration Lawyer?

Hiring an immigration lawyer is beneficial in many situations where you are dealing with U.S. immigration laws, whether for personal or business reasons. Common reasons to hire an immigration lawyer include:

  • Visa applications: If you need assistance applying for a visa, whether it's a work visa (H-1B), student visa (F-1), or tourist visa (B-1/B-2), a lawyer can help ensure the application is properly completed and submitted.
  • Green card applications: If you're seeking permanent residency, an immigration lawyer can guide you through the process, whether through family sponsorship, employment, or the Diversity Visa (lottery) program.
  • Deportation or removal defense: If you’re facing deportation or removal from the U.S., a lawyer can defend your case in immigration court and seek to prevent removal.
  • Asylum applications: If you’re seeking asylum due to persecution or fear of persecution in your home country, a lawyer can help you prepare a strong case and file for asylum.
  • Family reunification: If you're a U.S. citizen or permanent resident looking to bring family members to the U.S., a lawyer can assist with the family sponsorship process.
  • Citizenship and naturalization: If you're ready to apply for U.S. citizenship, a lawyer can help you navigate the naturalization process and ensure you meet all the requirements.
  • Business immigration: If you're an employer seeking to hire foreign workers, a lawyer can assist with employment-based visas, labor certification, and compliance with immigration regulations.
  • Special immigration categories: Immigration lawyers also handle complex cases, such as visas for victims of human trafficking (T visa), crime victims (U visa), or those seeking Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

Hiring an immigration lawyer early in the process can help you avoid delays, errors, and possible denials due to incomplete or incorrect applications.

What Does an Immigration Lawyer Do?

An immigration lawyer provides a wide range of services to help clients with their immigration needs, whether personal or business-related. Their tasks often include:

  • Assisting with visa applications: Helping clients fill out and submit visa applications, ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Filing for green cards and permanent residency: Guiding clients through the process of applying for a green card, including family-based, employment-based, or other forms of residency.
  • Defending against deportation or removal: Representing clients in immigration court who are facing deportation and working to prevent removal from the U.S.
  • Preparing asylum cases: Assisting clients in applying for asylum based on fear of persecution in their home country due to race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group.
  • Handling citizenship applications: Helping lawful permanent residents apply for naturalization and ensuring they meet all the legal requirements for U.S. citizenship.
  • Employment-based immigration: Assisting employers with the process of sponsoring foreign workers for temporary or permanent visas, including H-1B, L-1, and EB-1 through EB-5 visas.
  • Representation in immigration interviews: Preparing clients for immigration interviews and attending interviews at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) offices.
  • Appealing denied applications: If a visa, green card, or citizenship application is denied, a lawyer can file appeals or motions to reopen or reconsider the case.

How Are Immigration Lawyers Paid?

Immigration lawyers generally charge for their services based on the type of immigration case and the complexity of the legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: Many immigration lawyers charge a flat fee for specific services, such as preparing a visa application, green card petition, or citizenship application. Flat fees help clients know upfront what the legal costs will be for a particular service.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex cases, such as deportation defense or appeals, some lawyers charge by the hour. Hourly rates vary depending on the lawyer's experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Retainer: For ongoing immigration matters, some clients may need to pay a retainer, which is an upfront payment billed against as the lawyer works on the case.
  • Pro bono or sliding scale: Some immigration lawyers or nonprofit organizations may offer free or low-cost services for clients with limited financial means, particularly in asylum or humanitarian cases.

It’s essential to discuss the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the costs and payment arrangements.

How Much Does an Immigration Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an immigration lawyer varies based on the type of legal service required, the lawyer's experience, and the complexity of the case. General cost estimates include:

  • Visa applications: For help with visa applications (e.g., H-1B, L-1, F-1), legal fees may range from $2,000 to $7,500, depending on the complexity and the type of visa.
  • Green card applications: Fees for family-based or employment-based green card applications typically range from $3,000 to $10,000, depending on the case.
  • Deportation defense: For defending clients in removal proceedings, costs can range from $5,000 to $15,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case and how long the case takes.
  • Asylum cases: Asylum applications may range from $2,000 to $10,000, depending on whether the case is defensive (in removal proceedings) or affirmative (not in removal proceedings).
  • Citizenship applications: Legal fees for filing a naturalization application usually range from $1,500 to $5,000, depending on the complexity of the client’s immigration history.
  • Business immigration services: Fees for assisting businesses with employment-based visas (such as H-1B or EB-5 visas) often range from $3,000 to $10,000 or more.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of costs and fee arrangements before proceeding with legal services.

Top Questions to Ask an Immigration Lawyer

Before hiring an immigration lawyer, it's essential to ask questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your case effectively. Important questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with immigration cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it’s family-based immigration, employment visas, or asylum.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a flat fee, hourly rate, or retainer, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case and the potential outcomes, including any challenges you might face.
  4. How long will the process take?
Immigration cases can take time, so ask how long it may take to process your application or resolve your legal issue.
  5. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of your case. Make sure you know who will be working on your case directly.
  6. What documents do I need to provide?
Ask the lawyer about the documentation required to support your case, such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, or employment contracts.

How to Check the Credibility of an Immigration Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable immigration lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Check their state bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for specific immigration law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in immigration law and have experience handling cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their ability to handle immigration cases.
  • Check for industry affiliations: Membership in organizations like the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) can indicate the lawyer’s expertise and commitment to immigration law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an immigration lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Passport and immigration documents: Bring your passport, visa, and any documents related to your current immigration status.
  • Family documents: If you're applying for a family-based visa or green card, bring marriage certificates, birth certificates, and proof of family relationships.
  • Employment information: For employment-based visas, provide your employment contract, offer letter, or other documentation of your job.
  • Criminal records (if applicable): If you have any criminal history, bring copies of court records and other relevant documents.
  • Timeline of events: Provide a clear timeline of any prior immigration applications, visas, or issues with immigration authorities.
  • List of questions: Prepare any questions you have about your immigration case, the process, costs, and the likelihood of success.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer understand your case more effectively and get the best possible legal advice on how to proceed.
