I met Joseph Mintz needing representation fast as I started to get nervous appearing before a judge for a show cause hearing in Clark county, I, myself, have some background in courts and have represented people as an authorized representative so I am familiar with court procedures and etiquette (decorum). Nevertheless, Joseph was the smartest choice I made to represent me. We avoided trial or a judgement completely, by taking the information in, creating a plan that he knew would work, allowing me to tweak it to where it will better for me and negotiated further until all parties were satisfied. He made an agreement binding that was so fair, it cost less than the fees would have been if I would have proceeded alone and WITHOUT a negative judgement against me. Of the four hearings I've seen while waiting to present the agreement to the judge, we fared the best... the others had judgement against them. Joseph is young and attentive and he will be going places really soon. You rarely hear someone say "I got lucky" when it comes to selecting an attorney but I don't what else to call it when you can find an attorney that can absorb all kinds of detail, filter out what's important in the end and turn ground chuck into steak.

I own a small collection agency in Lynnwood, Washington. I have used Mr. Bernheim to handle a frivolous lawsuit, general legal counsel, and most currently a complaint response. I find myself amazed each and every time I speak with him or his staff. The guidance he offers coupled with his quick response time and his reasonable billable hours makes me feel like I am a priority. This may sound unbelievable but each time I have worked with him I have walked away feeling like the money was well spent. To get that feeling as a small business on a budget is pretty awesome. When my wife and I got married, Elaine helped us go through the confusing and intimidating process of getting my wife's green card. I could not of been happier and strongly recommend her. She is friendly, honest, responsive, and just easy to work with. Also, there was nothing confusing about her fee and the value that she provides, far outweighs the cost of her services. I whole-heartedly recommend using her for any immigration matter.

I was referred to Sabina through a good friend of mine because I needed help with documentation for a fiance visa. Sabina was very helpful and knew exactly what needed to be done to make sure we have no problems going forward. Once I told her what we needed she began right away on gathering information that we will need to make this a smooth transaction. Within a few days we had all the paperwork together and we were able to submit all the necessary documentation. It was truly a pleasure to work with Sabina and I would definitely be going back if I ever need any legal help in the future, and will definitely recommend her services to others.

This woman is like Mary Poppins she is perfect and amazing in every way. Let me say this, I have delt with abuse of my abuser for 15 years. After abusing myself, our child, and then another child he had with another victim, he continued on his path. He nearly got away with it. FCS bought his lies and didn't spend the time to look through the hundreds on end pages of evidence from doctors, mental health providers, and school records, as well as look into all the CPS reports from the school against him. But this lovely woman made sure the truth was heard and the evidence was seen and I was granted my permanent order. Hire her, there is simply no one better. You wont regret it. She has an incrediable background as well. Her heart is kind and genuine. Her last name is now Stratton.

Evangeline Simmons represented me in a Domestic Violence Protection Order stalking case. My case ended up being unusual in a few ways, and she did a very skillful job building a strategy that was successful for me. I was tremendously grateful to her for her knowledge, commitment, and the way that she went the extra mile in pulling together the documents and pleadings for the protection order, as well crafting responses to other intervening events, which had added to the complexity of my case. Throughout, I felt she was doing everything that she could to help me. I had never been through anything like this before, and was fairly stressed by the experience. Evangeline's professionalism, plus her clear compassion for domestic violence/stalking victims, gave me the faith that I was in good hands -- and I was. Even though it's possible to go through a DVPO hearing on your own, without a lawyer, I know that I would have been lost without her help. She was available, responsive, clear, caring and resourceful. I absolutely recommend her, without reservation. She did an excellent job.

I would highly recommend Laura Dorey to anyone needing assistance with their SSD Claim. Laura was very helpful getting me ready to go before the Judge. When the Judge was finished asking me questions Laura asked me some more questions that she felt the Judge should hear to help my Claim and I feel those were the questions that made the Judges decision. I do not feel I would have had the same outcome if it hadn't been for her expert advice and support. Laura has continued to follow up with me after the Claim was approved to make sure everything was going smooth for me. Once again I highly recommend Laura to anyone that has been denied their SSD Benefits and have a legitimate Claim. Laura is very knowledgeable and compassionate and has proved to me that she can get the job done.

When I became disabled, and filed my paper work, I was denied. At that point I noticed Russell and Hill online and figured it wouldn't hurt to give them a call and get their opinion. They felt they could help me reverse the initial decision through appeal. I was denied a second time. They encouraged me to appeal again, which meant a hearing in front of a judge. They were with me all the way in preparation, filing the proper paperwork, and were with me during the hearing. It was wonderful to have Laura Dorey with me as my counsel, who is very knowledgeable and capable. I didn't know what I was doing, and really needed their help through the whole process. Finally there was a judgement in my favor, and my life has changed with their help. I don't feel I could have done this without them. I truly was about to give up.

I have had nearly 25 years of immigration history in the U.S.; went through five different visas. During all those years, I was blessed to be represented by six immigration attorneys from three different law firms, who did a lot to help me and my family. Mr. Mosher happened to be my sixth immigration attorney. My wife has had more than 18 years of immigration history in the U.S.; she stayed on four different visas, one of which was different from mine. Mr. Mosher helped my wife and me to get naturalized. I would like to highlight some important moments of Mr. Mosher’s work in my naturalization process: Mr. Mosher offered me a really nice discount on legal fee for my naturalization because he did my wife’s naturalization. Neither did I know, nor did I ask for that discount. I had my own idea of how to do one thing and was willing to pay much extra for that. Mr. Mosher honestly explained to me that however the idea was okay, it was not really worth the cost. He advised me to do as he says. I listened to Mr. Mosher. That saved me a lot of money. Mr. Mosher filed an additional form along with all the required evidence at no cost for me. The form was approved by USCIS. That saved me money. Before going into the naturalization process, I had a very serious concern, which with all of my and my wife’s combined immigration experience I was not sure of how to address. I prepared a letter to Mr. Mosher on three pages explaining my situation and asking for his advice. To my astonishment, Mr. Mosher promptly answered my difficult question in just one sentence. He was right! Mr. Mosher’s advice on that was really precious; it saved me lots of time, effort, and money. And he did not charge me for that. That was even before we started working. Then, I was thinking of translating one document into English. Mr. Mosher told me that I do not need to translate that document. That was correct! That again saved me time, effort, and money. The USCIS made a typographical error in my last name. We filed an e-Request to correct that error. USCIS had not been responding for a long time after their expected reply date. I asked Mr. Mosher if it was okay for me to write them in My USCIS Account. Mr. Mosher approved. The response I received from the USCIS was correct in general, but very confusing to me. They thought it was we who made a mistake. Then, the USCIS had corrected that typographic error, however three more discrepancies were introduced in my first and middle names. It had been really frustrating for me. Mr. Mosher explained the situation to me and told me not to worry, and told me of what to do. The things went exactly as Mr. Mosher explained. Before I went to the naturalization interview, I had a preparatory telephone conference with Mr. Mosher. That was really helpful. Many things he told me, I experienced in real at the interview. In many parts I knew exactly what to expect. That saved me my energy to answer some difficult questions at the interview. I have always been trying to choose the best possible attorneys to represent me and my family. I found Mr. Mosher to be an outstanding immigration attorney: knowledgeable, helpful, and trustworthy. I would freely recommend Mr. Mosher as an immigration attorney to everyone seeking immigration help.

I engaged Kay in 2016, at the recommendation of my manager, and she was superb with the labor law I needed with legal representation. I hired Kay again from about May 2018 to about May 2019. There were typos in some important documents and we were all catching up to the fact this employer wasn’t going to do anything right without going through its administrative process. I needed to scope Kay’s work to control for cost, which she thought was because I didn’t trust her. This was really unfortunate. She also reduced her schedule and increased her bill rate and my employer got a lot of mileage out of those typos. But at the end of the day I wish she hadn’t been upset that my scoping for budget was a sign of not trusting her. I’d have her back in a heartbeat. She’s that good. The firm hired to replace her - at half the cost - did not have the experience they claimed and I had to try another attorney or risk my statute of limitations. The third attorney was unethical. The only unethical attorney I’ve been exposed to.

What an Immigration Lawyer Can Do for You

An immigration lawyer specializes in helping individuals, families, and businesses navigate the complex immigration process. These lawyers provide legal guidance on various immigration matters, such as obtaining visas, gaining permanent residency (green cards), applying for citizenship, and defending clients in deportation or removal proceedings. Immigration lawyers also assist with employment-based immigration, asylum applications, and resolving issues related to visas or immigration status.

Whether you're trying to immigrate to the U.S., facing deportation, or sponsoring an employee or family member for a visa, an immigration lawyer can help you understand your legal options and navigate the often complicated legal system.

When Should I Hire an Immigration Lawyer?

Hiring an immigration lawyer is beneficial in many situations where you are dealing with U.S. immigration laws, whether for personal or business reasons. Common reasons to hire an immigration lawyer include:

  • Visa applications: If you need assistance applying for a visa, whether it's a work visa (H-1B), student visa (F-1), or tourist visa (B-1/B-2), a lawyer can help ensure the application is properly completed and submitted.
  • Green card applications: If you're seeking permanent residency, an immigration lawyer can guide you through the process, whether through family sponsorship, employment, or the Diversity Visa (lottery) program.
  • Deportation or removal defense: If you’re facing deportation or removal from the U.S., a lawyer can defend your case in immigration court and seek to prevent removal.
  • Asylum applications: If you’re seeking asylum due to persecution or fear of persecution in your home country, a lawyer can help you prepare a strong case and file for asylum.
  • Family reunification: If you're a U.S. citizen or permanent resident looking to bring family members to the U.S., a lawyer can assist with the family sponsorship process.
  • Citizenship and naturalization: If you're ready to apply for U.S. citizenship, a lawyer can help you navigate the naturalization process and ensure you meet all the requirements.
  • Business immigration: If you're an employer seeking to hire foreign workers, a lawyer can assist with employment-based visas, labor certification, and compliance with immigration regulations.
  • Special immigration categories: Immigration lawyers also handle complex cases, such as visas for victims of human trafficking (T visa), crime victims (U visa), or those seeking Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

Hiring an immigration lawyer early in the process can help you avoid delays, errors, and possible denials due to incomplete or incorrect applications.

What Does an Immigration Lawyer Do?

An immigration lawyer provides a wide range of services to help clients with their immigration needs, whether personal or business-related. Their tasks often include:

  • Assisting with visa applications: Helping clients fill out and submit visa applications, ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Filing for green cards and permanent residency: Guiding clients through the process of applying for a green card, including family-based, employment-based, or other forms of residency.
  • Defending against deportation or removal: Representing clients in immigration court who are facing deportation and working to prevent removal from the U.S.
  • Preparing asylum cases: Assisting clients in applying for asylum based on fear of persecution in their home country due to race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group.
  • Handling citizenship applications: Helping lawful permanent residents apply for naturalization and ensuring they meet all the legal requirements for U.S. citizenship.
  • Employment-based immigration: Assisting employers with the process of sponsoring foreign workers for temporary or permanent visas, including H-1B, L-1, and EB-1 through EB-5 visas.
  • Representation in immigration interviews: Preparing clients for immigration interviews and attending interviews at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) offices.
  • Appealing denied applications: If a visa, green card, or citizenship application is denied, a lawyer can file appeals or motions to reopen or reconsider the case.

How Are Immigration Lawyers Paid?

Immigration lawyers generally charge for their services based on the type of immigration case and the complexity of the legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: Many immigration lawyers charge a flat fee for specific services, such as preparing a visa application, green card petition, or citizenship application. Flat fees help clients know upfront what the legal costs will be for a particular service.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex cases, such as deportation defense or appeals, some lawyers charge by the hour. Hourly rates vary depending on the lawyer's experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Retainer: For ongoing immigration matters, some clients may need to pay a retainer, which is an upfront payment billed against as the lawyer works on the case.
  • Pro bono or sliding scale: Some immigration lawyers or nonprofit organizations may offer free or low-cost services for clients with limited financial means, particularly in asylum or humanitarian cases.

It’s essential to discuss the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the costs and payment arrangements.

How Much Does an Immigration Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an immigration lawyer varies based on the type of legal service required, the lawyer's experience, and the complexity of the case. General cost estimates include:

  • Visa applications: For help with visa applications (e.g., H-1B, L-1, F-1), legal fees may range from $2,000 to $7,500, depending on the complexity and the type of visa.
  • Green card applications: Fees for family-based or employment-based green card applications typically range from $3,000 to $10,000, depending on the case.
  • Deportation defense: For defending clients in removal proceedings, costs can range from $5,000 to $15,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case and how long the case takes.
  • Asylum cases: Asylum applications may range from $2,000 to $10,000, depending on whether the case is defensive (in removal proceedings) or affirmative (not in removal proceedings).
  • Citizenship applications: Legal fees for filing a naturalization application usually range from $1,500 to $5,000, depending on the complexity of the client’s immigration history.
  • Business immigration services: Fees for assisting businesses with employment-based visas (such as H-1B or EB-5 visas) often range from $3,000 to $10,000 or more.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of costs and fee arrangements before proceeding with legal services.

Before hiring an immigration lawyer, it's essential to ask questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your case effectively. Important questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with immigration cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it’s family-based immigration, employment visas, or asylum.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a flat fee, hourly rate, or retainer, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case and the potential outcomes, including any challenges you might face.
  4. How long will the process take?
Immigration cases can take time, so ask how long it may take to process your application or resolve your legal issue.
  5. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of your case. Make sure you know who will be working on your case directly.
  6. What documents do I need to provide?
Ask the lawyer about the documentation required to support your case, such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, or employment contracts.

How to Check the Credibility of an Immigration Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable immigration lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Check their state bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for specific immigration law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in immigration law and have experience handling cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their ability to handle immigration cases.
  • Check for industry affiliations: Membership in organizations like the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) can indicate the lawyer’s expertise and commitment to immigration law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an immigration lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Passport and immigration documents: Bring your passport, visa, and any documents related to your current immigration status.
  • Family documents: If you're applying for a family-based visa or green card, bring marriage certificates, birth certificates, and proof of family relationships.
  • Employment information: For employment-based visas, provide your employment contract, offer letter, or other documentation of your job.
  • Criminal records (if applicable): If you have any criminal history, bring copies of court records and other relevant documents.
  • Timeline of events: Provide a clear timeline of any prior immigration applications, visas, or issues with immigration authorities.
  • List of questions: Prepare any questions you have about your immigration case, the process, costs, and the likelihood of success.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer understand your case more effectively and get the best possible legal advice on how to proceed.
