Over the past 20 years, we've bought and sold numerous businesses, and each time we've relied on Holmquist and Gardiner to review contracts and ensure we’re fully protected and informed about every detail. Their expertise and guidance have always been spot-on and well worth the investment. For a recent legal issue related to a business sale, Imants once again helped us navigate a potentially stressful situation with professionalism and clear advice. We're incredibly pleased with the outcome. We highly recommend this firm without hesitation.

I was referred to Kelley Duggan by my real estate attorney, John Forderhase at Forderhase Law & Escrow, and I can't thank him enough for the recommendation. I was in the process of purchasing a property from a seller who hadn’t completed the probate process after his mother passed away in 2001. Since John didn’t specialize in probates, he referred me to Kelley at Holmquist & Gardiner. From the very beginning, Kelley was extremely knowledgeable and reassuring. She immediately took action to resolve this complex issue, which involved going back over 20 years to locate the seller's mother's will. It was no easy task, but within a few weeks, she achieved a resolution, and the seller was appointed as the trustee of his mother's estate. Throughout the entire process, Kelley was up front and transparent, and her hard work truly shone through. She dedicated countless hours to research and was always communicative, keeping me informed every step of the way. I am certain that without Kelley’s efforts, we would still be running in circles. Thanks to her determination and expertise, the seller, Skip, was able to sell me his house and move on to pursue his dreams of living out the rest of his days in Montana. Kelley, thank you for all your hard work—you made the impossible possible!

Emailed a few times, maybe 3 times, in regard to a refund on the remainder of a payment I made for services not received. I was not rude in any of them but firm on wanting the refund and inquiring when that would be. Lance called me with reasons why I “disregarded” the agreement I signed. I said I want to know if I will be receiving a refund or not from the firm, otherwise, I would do my part on recovering the remainder of funds. He then states, “I guess this ends our working relationship, idk who else you’ll complain to” I’m not sure why Lance felt comfortable enough to speak to me in this manner but I don’t appreciate it and I would advise against hiring someone who is rude for no apparent reason. I called for a consultation on a very time-sensitive issue. Being busy for a very small law firm is understandable and I received many apologies. However, it took a month to receive a simple no, we are too busy, and it was unclear whether an attorney ever reviewed my information. Seemed disorganized and I felt disregarded and lost valuable time and recourse.

When my husband was seriously injured on private property, we thought that the owner’s insurance company would work with us to fairly handle the injuries. We were wrong and quickly realized that we would need to hire an attorney to help. We hired Michael Sprangers and Mark Johnson to represent us. From the day we hired them, a huge burden was lifted from our shoulders. They guided us through the entire process, so we could focus on getting better and our lives (and not a lawsuit). We can’t thank them enough.

Michael Sprangers represented me in a legal malpractice lawsuit. The attorney my husband and I had hired to help us with our wills and estate planning had, unbeknownst to us prior to my husband’s passing, created a real disaster. This resulted in a lawsuit between family members and was the absolute worst-case scenario I or anyone else wanted to go through, especially while dealing with my husband’s passing. I hired Michael to pursue a legal malpractice lawsuit against my previous estate attorney. Michael was so great. From the beginning he made the process understandable, and I always felt I was in great hands. Michael was always prepared, professional, and I cannot thank him enough for handling my case. I highly recommend him.

I would truly recommend Keith Douglass and Associates to handle any legal issues that fall within their realm of expertise. I have worked with Keith and Adele for almost 4 years on a very complex legal case. Their continued support and attention to detail has resulted in a very satisfying outcome for me and my family. They always made me feel that my case was of the utmost importance and I believe I received the largest settlement possible because of their excellent efforts. Both Keith and Adele have the ability to explain how the complex legal system worked to me, and helped me to get through a very difficult time in my life.

Keith was great to work with as were his staff. After our initial consultation about my accident, I was given a clear explanation of Keith's strategy to get me compensation for my injury. He and his staff did a great job of working the strategy and keeping me informed of how my case was progressing. At the end of the process, I got a sizable check. What really set Keith & his staff apart from other attorneys, in my opinion, was their ability to see me as a person and not just another case. Keith is a real person and treated me like a real person. It was really nice to talk to a lawyer and feel respected, understood, and appreciated! Keith is a great guy & he has a warm, understanding, helpful, and responsive staff. I would totally recommend Keith & his entire firm to anyone who has been seriously wronged and needs legal help to ensure that justice is served.

I am an experienced Washington attorney who has both fought Levi Larson on behalf of one of my Malpractice clients AND, subsequent to that case resolving, hired him to help knock down a complaint made against my physician wife's practice. Happily, the complaint against my wife made to the Department of Health, Medical Quality Assurance Commission was dismissed with a finding that she had acted entirely within the standard of care for her practice area. She, of course, knew it the whole time, but proving something is different than just knowing it. Levi helped us prove it. Thank you, Attorney Levi Larson!

When I initially called for an appointment, I paid $90 for our initial case review. (That's the only appointment we had) they gave my daughter some paperwork, told her to fill it out and return it after she received her 1st paycheck ( she hadn't even started her job yet) then they would start building her case. I gave them a $3800 retainer. My daughter didn't fill out or return the paperwork. Two days later, she called them and said she was going back to florida because her daughter has T1D and was having medical issues. She wouldn't be filing her divorce here. They said no problem. They would give our money back. 3 weeks later, after I went down there 3 times and called twice about getting my money back they refunded me $2980.So this initial appointment cost me $90+ $820. The first time I went down there (5 days after my daughter told them she wouldn't be needing their services), David Rose told me he was refunding my $3800. I went down there today. No-one was there, the door was open, there were files and laptops open on the table, which makes me wonder how secure they're operation is. Now, if I were to got my $820 back, I'd consider updating my review. Again, it took 3 WEEKS to get my money back. This has caused much anxiety and frustration.

I wrote the review on October of 2020. I just received a bill for over $1700 after I paid off my bill almost 2 years ago! These people are obtuse. Stay away, stay far away. They advertise as Divorce Lawyers for Men, yet they automatically gave the $1200 residential credit to my ex while she makes over $12k/month and it is 50/50. I said in the previous review to stay away and she is trying to charge me $1700 after 2 years and no billing information on time charged. She is obtuse.

Morris -sockle would not give me receipts of their work done. After repeatedly asking for it they did not give it to me. I was not able to show it for court and thus the court did not consider having the other party pay for my attorney. They also filed paperwork with the court and directed me to file within 3 days. It said so in the file with court. I sent it in 4 days within court and they did not accept. The court directed me to take it up with the Bar. Steer clear! They also tried to settle out of court. I said no and I got 4 times the amount they told me I should take. Big mistake and they are known to only give you half a day to review your paperwork. They defended giving opposing counsel 42 days. Stay away! She is with the devil. Should not be associated with lawyers for men. That is a con. They will take retainer and ask for more...

I begged for money back after learning that this firm did absolutely nothing for my case. They kept the majority of my retainer and sent me back a box full of the personal matters of another person's case, duplicate copies of my case and letters from opposing counsel begging for Mr. Sperline to stop missing deadlines and comply. Tried contacting Mr. Sperline numerous times to no avail. After I dropped services, the things that I was unfairly billed for months in advance were suddenly filed with the court. NOTE--- AFTER services were cancelled and with no effort on his firms part. I would not recommend in ANY way. Overbilled and under-serviced is an understatement.

Jeff was very good at staying on track with giving legal advice during a very difficult time. His strength was being able to tell you what you need to know and hear instead of what you want to hear. As a mediator he was on top of his game. Mediation can be very challenging when balancing legal advice with the client along with the stresses of the personalities and emotions of the different parties involved.

Mr. Sperline came highly recommended after dissatisfaction with a previous attorney. How refreshing it was to find an attorney that had more concern for the case than for his wallet! I'm certain that his concern for his clients is genuine, and that the investment of his time in each case is out of a sincere desire to do the right thing. He returned calls and emails promptly, gave us the details that we needed to make informed decisions, and gave us his best recommendations. He is an ethical, moral attorney, one to treasure!

Was set to give 30% when the insurance company was ready to pay they brought me in to sign new papers and they took almost all of it. I got like 20% a couple of checks for a couple grand tops they got 20k. It felt sketchy. If I Could I would go back and get another lawyer for this lawyer it was so sketchy. It’s been years and my auto insurance means I’ve more than paid it back. Not very ethical.

A woman blew through a yield sign and totaled my car. I had a concussion and my right tibia was dislocated top and bottom and the knee cap was jammed up and into the bone. Excruciating injury that incapacitated me for seven months before finding someone who correctly diagnosed and re-set the bone. My entire life world imploded because I couldn't put any weight on it, or walk... I would wake up screaming when I flexed my knees in my sleep. I went through all my savings just trying to pay bills while being unable to work.. When the time came for a settlement I was told to suck it up buttercup, because " nothing is ever going to compensate you for all that pain and suffering". When the time came to settle the case, once I paid myself back for all the financial losses directly related to the accident I got less than five hundred dollars; I was advised to settle due to my "financial distress" which I was only in because I had been injured! All I was asking for was something fair, and I did not get it. My feeling was that he was in collusion with the other party's insurance company. Ironically I liked him personally, I just would not hire him again. Without an attorney I would have received nothing, with him it wasn't much better. And I'm sorry to say this. For five thousand dollars I expected more.

I switched to Nikhil from another lawyer and it was a decision that I wished I'd made much earlier in my case. Nikhil's service was professional, courteous, respectful, and efficient. I'm very grateful for his assistance and highly recommend him.

I would highly recommend Karen to anyone dealing with a personal injury case. The legal process may be slow and complicated, but Karen's office allowed me to keep living my life with minimal inconvenience as my case progressed. I always felt confident that Karen had my best interest in mind and I was thoroughly pleased with how my case resolved.

Karen and her staff were not only amazing with the expert legal support, but they were emotionally supportive as well, which is huge when your life feels like it has fallen apart after a serious accident. I'm hoping I don't need her for the same type of legal help in the future, but if I do, she is the first one I would call. I think one of the things that separates Ms. Koehler from many other attorneys is that she truly cares about her clients. She felt more like a friend than an attorney, and I have kept in touch with her for the past three years since my case went to trial. Karen's amazing assistant, Anne, also worked hard to get my medical bills reduced quite dramatically, from $45,000 to less than $30,000. Great lawyer, great team, awesome people!

Do not use! Website says 30 day money back guarantee. Been fighting for that refund and they say since I had access to website they can't give me a full refund. The gave me a partial and then removed access to my answers, so all my work went to waste. Use a different company.

My experience with Mr Parnell far exceeded my expectations. I swear he doesn't sleep at all, since I received timely communication at all hours. The process was clear, concise and remarkably cost effective. I would highly recommend his services!!!

Was off put by this attorneys poor communication skills. Our initial meeting was met with many hem's and haw's when I asked specific questions about my litigation. He is a knowledgeable individual, however I would not want him representing me in a court room.

I felt Mr. Harris did not communicate as he should. He was clearly trying to move from a defense to a plantiff firm and ultimately did. He was quick to blame others and never took responsibility. It seemed he worked actively to promote his (not my)position with the other firm. If I would have been smart, I should have lodged a complaint with the WSBA at the time. I do not mean to be spiteful, however only to describe the behavior I noted. I have worked with many lawyers for various projects and issues. This episode left the worst taste of them all.

My case was apparently unworked for 2.5 years. When my case was dropped, I requested my file. I was sent 1 letter. Over the 2.5 years, I repeatedly called and asked for updates, rarely were my calls returned. When they were, updates were vague and of no substance. Due to other actions of Doughery my case determined unrepresentable by other lawyers I approached with my case. In the end I was left personally responsible medical bills for an auto accident of which i was not at fault.

The MVA cases for myself and my husband took almost 6 years to settle, and there were multiple "oversights" along the way. The biggest problem is that it was and remains extremely difficult to actually talk to Mr. Watson because the paralegals seem to insulate him. For example, I have called to speak to Mr. Watson for a week, left 6 messages, and was finally told that I could set a phone appointment to talk to him 3 weeks from now. The paralegals act as go- betweens, and go to extremes to not allow communication with the lawyer. When I tried to work with the paralegals, they often did not understand issues or did not follow through or did not talk to the lawyer when they should have and caused multiple delays, mulitple billing mistakes, did not update when given corrected numbers, did not allow client review of ledgers after multiple requests, caused confusion, made subrogation over-payments that we are now in the process of trying to recover, upset my health providers by giving misinformation, and had a pattern of giving contradictory information. I caught many mistakes and explained things to the paralegals (that most clients would probably not be involved enough to understand), which would have cost us many thousands of dollars . Communication simply did not and continues to not happen. Requests for communication or information are either unanswered, misunderstood, or given tardy inadequate responses. Our cases settled in November, yet it is February and my husband and I have still not received final payments, nor any communication on the case status in well over a month. This has been an extremely frustrating situation, causing as much stress as the accident itself. When I have talked to Mr. Watson, he seemed knowledgeable and likable. He said he addressed the described issues with his staff, but the situation did not improve.

What a Medical Malpractice Lawyer Can Do for You

A medical malpractice lawyer specializes in helping individuals who have been harmed due to the negligence or misconduct of healthcare professionals, such as doctors, nurses, or hospitals. These lawyers assist in cases where a healthcare provider deviates from the accepted standard of care, resulting in injury or death. Medical malpractice cases can involve misdiagnosis, surgical errors, medication mistakes, birth injuries, and other forms of medical negligence.

If you or a loved one has suffered harm due to improper medical treatment, a medical malpractice lawyer can help you understand your legal options, file a lawsuit, and pursue compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages, and other damages.

When Should I Hire a Medical Malpractice Lawyer?

Hiring a medical malpractice lawyer is essential if you’ve been seriously injured due to the negligence of a healthcare provider or institution. Situations where you should seek legal representation include:

  • Misdiagnosis or delayed diagnosis: If a doctor fails to diagnose or delays diagnosing a medical condition, leading to harm or progression of the illness.
  • Surgical errors: Harm resulting from surgical mistakes such as operating on the wrong site, leaving instruments inside the body, or performing unnecessary procedures.
  • Medication errors: Injuries caused by prescribing the wrong medication or dosage, or mistakes made by pharmacists in dispensing drugs.
  • Birth injuries: Injuries to a newborn due to medical negligence during labor and delivery, such as failing to perform a timely C-section or improper use of delivery instruments.
  • Anesthesia errors: Complications arising from improperly administered anesthesia, which can lead to serious injury or death.
  • Inadequate follow-up or aftercare: Suffering due to lack of proper monitoring or care after a medical procedure, leading to complications.
  • Hospital or nursing home negligence: Harm caused by the negligence of hospital staff, nurses, or administrators who failed to provide adequate care.

Medical malpractice cases are complex, and hiring a lawyer early can help ensure your rights are protected and your case is handled effectively.

What Does a Medical Malpractice Lawyer Do?

A medical malpractice lawyer provides various legal services to help injured patients hold negligent healthcare providers accountable. Their responsibilities include:

  • Evaluating your case: Reviewing medical records and consulting with experts to determine if you have a viable claim based on the standard of care and harm suffered.
  • Filing a lawsuit: Initiating legal action by filing a complaint against the responsible parties in the appropriate court.
  • Gathering evidence: Collecting medical records, expert testimonies, and other relevant evidence to build a strong case.
  • Negotiating with insurance companies: Working to secure a fair settlement that compensates you for your injuries without the need for a trial.
  • Litigating in court: Representing you during trial proceedings if a settlement cannot be reached, presenting evidence and arguing your case.
  • Calculating damages: Assessing the full extent of your losses, including medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, and future care needs.
  • Handling expert testimony: Coordinating with medical experts who can testify on how the standard of care was breached and how it led to your injuries.

How Are Medical Malpractice Lawyers Paid?

Most medical malpractice lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, which means they only get paid if they recover compensation for you. Key aspects of this payment structure include:

  • Contingency fee percentage: The lawyer's fee is typically between 25% and 40% of the settlement or award.
  • No upfront costs: You do not pay any legal fees unless the lawyer successfully recovers compensation on your behalf.
  • Case expenses: Costs for expert witnesses, medical record retrieval, and court fees may be deducted from your settlement or award in addition to the lawyer's fee.

Always discuss the fee arrangement during your initial consultation to understand your financial obligations.

How Much Does a Medical Malpractice Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a medical malpractice lawyer is usually based on a contingency fee model. General estimates include:

  • Contingency fee: Lawyers typically charge between 25% and 40% of the total recovery amount.
  • Case expenses: Additional costs such as expert witness fees and court expenses can range from $5,000 to $50,000 or more, depending on the case complexity.

Ensure you receive a clear explanation of all potential fees and expenses before proceeding with your case.

Top Questions to Ask a Medical Malpractice Lawyer

Before hiring a medical malpractice lawyer, consider asking the following questions:

  1. What experience do you have with medical malpractice cases like mine?
Confirm the lawyer has a successful track record with similar cases.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Understand the contingency fee percentage and any additional costs you may incur.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Seek an honest assessment of your case's strengths and potential challenges.
  4. How long will the process take?
Get an estimate of the timeline for settling or taking the case to trial.
  5. Will you handle my case personally?
Ensure you know who will be managing your case and their level of involvement.
  6. Have you worked with expert witnesses?
Verify the lawyer's experience in collaborating with medical experts essential for your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Medical Malpractice Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association for their license and any disciplinary actions.
  • Review their experience: Look for specialization in medical malpractice and a history of successful cases.
  • Read client reviews: Consult platforms like Avvo or Martindale-Hubbell for testimonials and ratings.
  • Ask for references: Request contact information of previous clients willing to discuss their experience.
  • Check professional affiliations: Membership in organizations like the American Association for Justice (AAJ) indicates a commitment to the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To maximize the effectiveness of your initial meeting, bring the following:

  • Medical records: All documents related to your treatment and injury.
  • Evidence of harm: Photos, medical bills, and records of lost wages.
  • Communication records: Any correspondence with healthcare providers or institutions.
  • List of healthcare providers: Names and contact information of all involved medical personnel.
  • Questions for the lawyer: A prepared list to address all your concerns.
  • Timeline of events: A detailed chronology of your medical care and the issues encountered.

Being well-prepared helps the lawyer assess your case accurately and advise you on the best course of action.
