I used Jeff Kelly for a real estate transaction. First, in this world I would recommend getting a lawyer on the purchase contract. Jeff knows the "end game" as a lawyer which is invaluable. Real estate agents don't have anyone's interest in mind but their own and make a transaction difficult. Spend your money with Jeff as your agent. If you are in a transaction and get a "bad feeling" call Jeff. Real estate is big money and this is where your money is best spent.

Jeff Kelly has consistently obtained the very best results for us in our real estate litigation. He is smart and strategic and really listened to our concerns and desires. We recommend him highly.

Mr. Kelly’s knowledge of the field of law was over the top. He was very strategic in his litigation process and accomplished a settlement far above what was anticipated. Mr. Kelly appeared to have a very strong real estate background and immediately identified the legal and real estate issues which existed. GREAT JOB and I will refer him to all my friends.

I hired Lenore Shefman to represent me in a civil lawsuit as a Defendant. After payment of a retainer, this attorney did zero work on my case, quite literally. For example: She never filed a letter to represent with the court. Ever. She did, however, make some limited contact with opposing counsel, and as a result of that contact, the opposing counsel sent Shefman numerous filings and time sensitive legal documents, all of which Shefman completely ignored. It got so bad that the opposing counsel contacted me directly to inquire if I was actually represented, and advised me personally of a scheduled hearing on the matter. I showed up at the hearing and Shefman was a no-show. The judge asked me if I was represented because Shefman had filed nothing with the court saying so. The judge thought I was pro se. I requested and received a continuance so that I could find more suitable counsel. After the hearing no-show, I made repeated attempts to contact Shefman. She answered no phone calls, retuned no voice mails, and answered no emails. I requested a refund of my retainer in these numerous messages. I ended up filing a complaint with the Texas State Bar, for help in soliciting Shefman for the rightful refund. I explained that Shefman appeared to have rendered zero legal services. Only as a result of the complaint, weeks later, did I receive a 50% partial refund of my retainer via a personal check from Shefman. It is unclear to me why Shefman kept the other 50%. At some point after I received the partial refund from Shefman, Shefman sent me a nasty email complaining of my complaint to the Texas State Bar, and in this email she threatened legal action against me if I was to ever leave on online complaint about her, such as on Avvo. Within this same email she also advised me that I did not have attorney-client privilege. I was clueless on what prompted such an email. I would obviously not recommend Lenore Shefman to anyone at all.

I hope you are never injured in an accident as a motorcyclist, cyclist or pedestrian but if you are, you should call Lenore from the ambulance like I did. Lenore and her team were there for me, literally in the hospital with me and then in the months and months of fighting with insurance and providers. Lenore got blood out of turnips for me. She somehow settled hundreds of thousands in medical bills for the piddly amount of the driver's liability coverage and still managed to get me some money in my pocket to pay off the misc. debts associated with the accident. I have no idea what I would have done without Lenore and Cece and that whole team of compassionate pit bulls. They really do care about the victims they represent and make me believe justice is possible.

I cannot say enough good things about my lawyer, Lenore Shefman. Lenore helped me through a very difficult personal situation through tireless dedication and effort on my behalf. She is knowledgeable, thorough, and more than competent at what she does, which lifted a huge weight off my shoulders. I cannot thank her enough for it. Even as she is so thorough and diligent, her humorous personality makes her a very an easy person to talk to, and it is a pleasure to speak with her. I am so grateful that I had Lenore and her legal team working on my case, she afforded me more reparation than I would have ever even thought possible. I can’t thank her enough for everything she has done for me and my partner.

Angela is beyond amazing as an attorney and a person. She handled my legal needs like they were her own. She was thorough, creative, collaborative and brilliant. She worked tirelessly to help me, and called in others if she thought they could help. I have never worked with an attorney like her. This was not a case, or a job, or even a client. I was a person, and she handled everything like it was the most important issue ever. I have used all of the "big firms" in town, and I will never go back. Angela is unbelievable. Professional. Capable. Smart. Effective.

I was not impressed during my initial consultation with Mrs. Baldinelli. She was disheveled, unorganized and a hot mess. Two attorney friends assured me she was a good lawyer and knew her stuff. Against my gut feelings, I hired her to represent me for a child support modification. The outcome was abysmal. She appeared in court unprepared, requested documents from me only the day before which did not give me time to prepare them as it was a work day. She did not oppose untruths thrown out by the opposing counsel. She did not fight for me at all in the court room and it was as if she had a "deal" already worked out with opposing counsel. She has cost me way more money that I will ever see in child support. It was very sad and I would be ashamed of my life's work if this is how it culminated. The opposing counsel chewed her up and spat her out while she sat there dumbfounded and unable to collect a response much less put together any credible arguments. Run, don't walk away from this attorney.

The first year he got a set off. He said he would represent him for the next parole hearing. He never contacted me letting me he was in review I found out on line. Never let me know there was another parole hearing during the holidays. I know he wasn't present for. I found out my husband was denied myself. I would never recommend him. The Fowler Law Firm truly embodies what it means to empower those they represent. In my line of work, it's all too common to see hardworking folks in construction not getting paid by greedy general contractors. When one of our Spanish-speaking clients faced this issue, I knew exactly who to refer them to. Laura and her team were exceptional—they prepared our client for their case, clearly communicated their leverage, and fiercely advocated on their behalf to ensure they were supported every step of the way. I'll continue to refer clients to The Fowler Law Firm because they’ve proven to be a trusted advocate for small businesses. Thank you for standing up for our community!

1. Gratitude: Stephen Jon Moss cares and serves as a model for all lawyers seeking to do pro bono phone consultations. He promptly replied to my time-sensitive appeal issue—listening and providing invaluable advice July 7, 2022 free of charge, ending around 6:20 PM after normal business hours—nothing short of a miracle! I will forever value his advice, knowing that high-profile school districts and other clients pay top dollar for his expertise. He even offered me a follow-up call, if needed—illustrating character beyond reproach. 2. Process: Within about 2 hours after completing the Lawyer Referral Service (“LRS”) succinct online form, Mr. Moss’ profile appeared in my Inbox. I thought I needed a lawyer to represent me, immediately, but realized as we exceeded the 30-minute window that what I needed was sound pro se legal advice to comply with the court timeline. I noted my visit to the June 29, 2022 Austin Bar Association Lockhart Veterans Legal Clinic. Seeing attorneys eager to help with few veterans present made me vow to bridge the disconnect. Too many veterans need help to thwart homelessness or other legal issues despite attorneys like Mr. Moss willing to help through LRS or in-person. 3. Anecdote: At the outset, Mr. Moss reminded me of my value as a veteran. His ROTC experience connected us, too. “I’m a quick learner,” I said. “Just point me in the right direction.” Mr. Moss listened intently and answered all of my questions then strategized, helping me create a “To-Do List” to plan what, when, and how to file along with next steps. The following day I headed to Texas State Law Library then filed an answer and timely submitted my appeal, accordingly. 4.Hope: Now, I see the glass as half-full and plan to share the value of LRS and Mr. Moss’ legal expertise. Responsive, respectful, resilient: He was a perfect match. I highly recommend Mr. Moss’ service. It was, indeed, a blessing!

Some say that it’s impossible to prove a negative. Stephen Moss was able to do just this when I was unfairly terminated over a 7-year old’s misrepresentation of a short conversation we had in public in a school cafeteria. While an employee can be terminated in Texas without cause, Mr. Moss was logically able to explain to the Texas Education Agency’s investigator how the allegations against me were not only illogical but impossible. As a Foster and Adoptive Parent of two now grown kids I was appalled at what I had been accused of and summarily dismissed without being given a formal chance to defend myself. And I knew I needed help. Mr. Moss listened to what I had to say, researched the law in question and with a single letter to the State Agency’s investigator explained that not only was any part of the law violated, the school district’s investigation was woefully inadequate and the conclusions reached preposterous. Mr. Moss’s written correspondence was so compelling that the State investigator closed the investigation without even a formal hearing, potentially saving me thousands of dollars in unnecessary legal fees. Thank you Mr. Moss for protecting my reputation!

I am not his Client. My case was very complex and needed an expert opinion from a lawyer who knows Criminal, Family, and immigration. Hence I went to Vinh for an initial free consultation he offered. My experience was horrible with him. I started to give him some background and he stopped me in the middle and asked me to explain what I wanted in one line. His tone, body language, and attitude everything were very rude. It seems like since he is giving free consultation, he has the right to disrespect me. Then when I explained what I was looking for he denied providing such kind of service, which is fine. But along with that, he started judging me and giving his opinion about my personal life. I was there only for 15 minutes. He just literally told me to go away. I could have responded to him right then and there, but I controlled myself just because I didn't want to misbehave like him. I don't understand how such a horrible person becomes a lawyer.

I was involve in a accident and was poorly represented by this lawfirm. They didnt contact the othejr persons insurance until 9 days later after talking to the investigator. They did not even go take pics of my car or accident scene, i was told to do it myself and email it. After 2 months of therapy I decided to ask about the intrest free loan. So I called on a Friday and asked them, the following Monday I got a call from his law office telling me they decided to drop my case. I was upset and found another lawyer, he asked me to get my file from tony. When I arrived at tonys office on 9800 N. Lamar Blvd. I was treated like dirt from the start and was told to get out. I was disrespected, cussed out, threatened and he even called a racial slur. I was told they were going to call the police and worst of all he said something about my mother and she wasnt even there to defend herself. Personally if you are of color(blk) I highly suggest you find someone else to represent you. The level of unprofessionalism is beyond reasoning and they shouldnt even be operating. If there was a such thing as giving X's and 5 is the worst I'd give them 10. If you want to be payed for your injuries and loss plz dont go here!!!!! *Had to rate it 1 star to submitt but believe me its far from it.

What a Personal Injury Lawyer Can Do for You

A personal injury lawyer specializes in helping individuals who have been physically or emotionally injured due to the negligence or wrongful actions of another party. Whether you've been hurt in a car accident, suffered a slip and fall, or experienced medical malpractice, a personal injury attorney works to ensure you receive fair compensation for your injuries. They can help you recover damages for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other related expenses.

Personal injury lawyers act as your advocate, navigating the legal system on your behalf and dealing with insurance companies to ensure you get the compensation you deserve. They understand how to handle complex legal matters and help you avoid common pitfalls.

When Should I Hire a Personal Injury Lawyer?

Hiring a personal injury lawyer can be beneficial in many situations where you've been harmed due to another's negligence. Some key scenarios include:

  • Severe injuries: If you've suffered significant or permanent injuries that result in substantial medical bills, a lawyer can help ensure you are fairly compensated.
  • Long-term or permanent disability: Injuries that affect your ability to work or require ongoing medical treatment are complex, and a lawyer can help estimate long-term damages.
  • Disputed liability: If the responsible party or their insurance company denies liability for your injury, a lawyer can gather evidence and advocate on your behalf.
  • Insurance company lowball offers: Insurers often try to settle personal injury claims for as little as possible. A lawyer can negotiate to get you a fair settlement.
  • Medical malpractice claims: Injuries caused by a doctor, nurse, or healthcare provider due to negligence require a personal injury lawyer experienced in medical malpractice law.
  • Exposure to hazardous substances: If you've been injured due to exposure to toxins, chemicals, or dangerous substances, a lawyer can help pursue legal action.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is crucial, especially if you're unsure of the full extent of your injuries or damages.

What Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Do?

A personal injury lawyer provides a wide range of services to guide you through the legal process and maximize your compensation. They can:

  • Evaluate your case: A lawyer will assess the strength of your claim and determine whether you have a viable case.
  • Investigate the incident: Gathering evidence such as police reports, witness statements, medical records, and expert opinions is key to building a strong case.
  • Negotiate with insurance companies: Lawyers handle communications with insurance companies to ensure you receive a fair settlement and aren't taken advantage of.
  • File a lawsuit if necessary: If a fair settlement can't be reached, the lawyer can file a personal injury lawsuit on your behalf and represent you in court.
  • Help calculate damages: This includes medical expenses, lost wages, future medical needs, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.
  • Prepare and file legal documents: Lawyers handle all the paperwork and deadlines associated with your case, including filing motions and discovery requests.
  • Represent you at trial: If your case goes to trial, the lawyer will argue your case before a judge and jury to obtain the compensation you deserve.

How Are Personal Injury Lawyers Paid?

Most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis. This means they only get paid if they win your case, either through settlement or a court judgment. Here’s how it works:

  • Contingency fee percentage: The lawyer will take a percentage of the settlement or award, typically between 25% and 40%, depending on the complexity of the case and the stage at which it's resolved.
  • Costs and expenses: In addition to the contingency fee, the lawyer may deduct other costs associated with the case, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, and court costs. These expenses are often advanced by the lawyer and repaid out of the settlement.
  • No upfront payment: Since the lawyer’s fee is contingent on winning, you usually don’t pay anything upfront.

Always discuss the lawyer’s fee structure during your consultation to avoid surprises.

How Much Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a personal injury lawyer depends on the specifics of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure. However, since most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, the amount you pay will depend on the outcome of your case. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Contingency fees: Typically range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award. The percentage may increase if the case goes to trial or requires an appeal.
  • Other costs: In addition to the lawyer's fee, you may be responsible for case-related expenses such as expert witness fees, medical record retrieval fees, and court costs. These are often deducted from your settlement, so you won't have to pay out of pocket.

While the cost may seem high, hiring an experienced lawyer can significantly increase the amount you recover, making it a worthwhile investment.

Top Questions to Ask a Personal Injury Lawyer

Before hiring a personal injury lawyer, it's essential to ask questions to ensure you’re choosing the right representation. Here are some important questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with personal injury cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has handled cases involving similar injuries or accidents.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a contingency fee and what percentage they will take from any settlement or award.
  3. How long will my case take?
While it's hard to predict, a lawyer can give you an estimate based on similar cases they’ve handled.
  4. How often do you take cases to trial?
Some lawyers prefer to settle quickly, while others are more comfortable going to court if necessary.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
In larger firms, junior lawyers or paralegals may handle some aspects of your case, so it's important to know who will be managing your claim.
  6. Do you have references from past clients?
Speaking with past clients can provide valuable insight into the lawyer’s effectiveness and professionalism.

How to Check the Credibility of a Personal Injury Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a credible personal injury lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, and Google reviews can provide insight into the lawyer's reputation and client satisfaction.
  • Look at their track record: Review their experience with personal injury cases, particularly how many cases they’ve successfully resolved or taken to trial.
  • Ask for references: Credible lawyers should be willing to provide references from past clients who can vouch for their work.
  • Check professional memberships: Lawyers who are members of respected organizations, like the American Association for Justice (AAJ), often have a solid reputation in the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with a personal injury lawyer, prepare the following:

  • Detailed account of the accident: Write down everything you remember about the incident, including dates, times, and locations. Include any witnesses or police reports if available.
  • Medical records and bills: Bring any documentation of your injuries, treatments, and associated medical costs.
  • Insurance information: Provide your insurance details and any communication you’ve had with the other party’s insurance company.
  • Employment and income records: If your injury has impacted your ability to work, bring proof of lost wages or reduced earning capacity.
  • Photos or videos: If you have photos of the accident scene, your injuries, or property damage, bring them to your consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare a list of questions to ask, including how the lawyer will handle your case and what you can expect in terms of timeline and outcome.

By preparing thoroughly for your first consultation, you’ll help the lawyer understand your case more quickly and get a better sense of your legal options.
