An agreement with an attorney in the office of Mayor Law was signed 2022-Oct giving Mayor Law proof of representation in an auto claim. Officially PIP was exhausted 25 April 2024. May 16 the attorney received digitally all payments; bills, notes, coding. At that time we should have sent the demand letter. I waited until July 4, 2024, contacted her, accepting the $3000 offer from April. I signed an agreement 29-July-2024. She received $3870 for costs and fees. I contacted her August 20 asking when I would get the settlement. She had been waiting on Progressive to update the Medicare liability section. She told me she still needed lien information on Medicaid, DHS, Medicare, and Med Advantage - and the 3 small businesses that treated me. I was 7 hours on the phone 20-23 August 2024 to contact insurances about liens on the settlement $3000: Medicare over the phone told me there was no lien (2nd payor and there was no hospitalization ZERO came in the mail today 9/9/2024). I called and got the procedure and fax number to Recovery for Mayor Law. Email attached attorney requesting I provide all Providence visits, summaries, billing. Attached ZERO owing PHP. DHS Medicaid (they faxed info right away which could have taken a month) in response to long email that EOB shows owing. My 3 small business folk who only take cash unless it was PIP were asked to provide the same information already given by my insurance carrier on May 16 to the attorney. 9/6/2024 Friday I received call stating the duo Advantage and Medicaid for medicare members NEVER create liens but would reversed to provider. Received a lien for $11.08 for xray would be paid correctly if Ayin Health Solutions would submit through Providence and Medicaid. Seems Mayor Law made a deal to pay 11.08 out of settlement without first notifying me! I have to deal with an attorney that would do that! HOW come they continue to argue they are still searching for a lien to take out of the settlement. It gives me the creeps. Ayin Health Solutions understood the attorney did not do the research before negotiating the cost to be 11.08 for the xray. They are voiding the lien today with Phia Group LISTEN. Mayor Law did not do the work she agreed to and I was on the phone 7 hours beginning it. Mayor Law is taking the 11.08 out of settlement anyway! Trashy company.

Stay Away. The lawyers (Liz W.) wasted my time for weeks, and dropped the case cause they couldn't bebothered with a camera subpoena. State Bar should mb disbar them for leaving Wildland Firefighters kidnaped and hurt by a KKK county.

If I could've given him no stars I would have. Ryan was hired by my niece for a custody battle she was going thru. After stating the case was "a slam dunk case" she ended up losing ALL custody, was ordered to pay child support and secure life insurance. The judgement has ripped my family apart and now we have to pay even MORE money to another attorney to appeal to even attempt to somehow get this reversed. Horrible, gutless, UNPREPARED and more concerned about getting back to his wife's fundraiser than concentrating on our case. He should've told us to bring the child with us and put a bow on her before we turned her over to the other side. That's how bad of a job he did. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE, do not hire this incompetent man. I am going to blast this wherever I can.

RJ Sohler has been with us since the VERY beginning of our business, eight years ago. He has helped us with the initial setup, issues, purchases, accounting, business growth, messy taxes, Quickbooks, my one million questions, and everything in between. His team covers so many areas and has been a vital part of our success. Marina Elliott has since joined Sohler Law and she, too, is knowledgeable and kind, always explaining things that seem difficult in an approachable way, and just straight up, she gets things done! We will always continue to use Sohler Law!!

Sohler Law has set up my family trust and done my taxes for the last 3 years. I can only say positive things about them. They respond to questions promptly, and are nice and "layed back" in true portland style. I am ancient, and they have patience with my lesser than perfect knowledge of technology. I no longer dread tax season.....

I used this firm a few years ago to create my Will. They charged thousands of dollars and left me with a document I can’t understand and no directions for my heirs once I die. When I ask for clarification, they want more money ($250-$500/hr). I would never recommend using them for any legal service.

Absolutely amazing, A+! Peter Carini is the first and only attorney I've ever contacted who actually answered his own phone - immediately, on a Sunday. As a paralegal, I can't even begin to tell you how rare that is! I was fully expecting to reach his office voicemail and maybe (probably never) get a call back from his receptionist to schedule a paid consultation the following week. Except Peter not only answered what must have been his cell phone (unless he was in the office working on a Sunday!), he listened to me without interruption and offered consice insight into my civil legal matter based on his experience and knowledge of the legal process. (Note: This is not the same as legal advice and does not constitute an attorney-client relationship. That's my FYI, not his.) He was totally straightforward as to whether it would be worth my while to hire him and explained how I could instead advocate for myself. Peter is an exceptionally honest and decent human being, and I am so thankful he answered my call. After speaking to him for 7.5 minutes, I felt hopeful again about a situation that was intimidating and seemingly hopeless. I cannot recommend him enough. Thank you, Peter!

I had the pleasure of working with Schoenfeld and Schoenfeld for my workers' compensation claim, and I can't recommend them enough. From start to finish, the team at Schoenfeld and Schoenfeld was professional, knowledgeable, and incredibly supportive. They guided me through every step of the process, ensuring that I understood what was happening and what my options were. Not only did Schoenfeld and Schoenfeld secure a fair settlement for me, but they also treated me with compassion and empathy throughout the entire ordeal. It was clear that they genuinely cared about my well-being and were determined to help me get the compensation I deserved. NOT RECOMMENDING CLARK LAW & ASSOCIATES! Jenny Clark was the partner in charge overseeing my lawyer, Caleb Dorrance. I initially was impressed, but come the time of Arbitration, I realized they didn't know my case well, confused it with others and then Caleb forgot to file witness paperwork so was not able to ask them questions, which lost that part of the case. He told me at the time, I had the right to file Bar complaint against him, it was a pretty big mistake. The owner of the firm was even worse professionally and made mistakes. JENNY JENNIFER CLARK... wow, so beyond unprofessional. Twice I got emails for other clients from her, one included the attached settlement! Other clients had similar names but not THAT close. After my lawyer left her firm a days after my case settled, and I still needed help getting the landlord to adhere to agreement, and sent email as directed before he left.... JENNY CLARK replied that case closed and they are no longer were my lawyer and provided Oregon Bar website link to find another. It was pretty awful, left me hanging. I replied how she was the senior partner on my case, sat in on my first appointment and said would be there. I was just needing the firm that represented me to make sure the other side does what they legally agreed. I ended that email with "Are you saying you won't do that?"... she replied alright...Can't attach here so SEE GOOGLE REVIEW ATTACHMENT of EMAIL FROM JENNY CLARK LOSING HER MIND. I get life was hard for her, but it was for me as well. That was why I hired them. THEY GOT $20K BUT WOULDN'T HELP ENFORCE THE AGREEMENT THEY NEGOTIATED. Do yourself a favor, keep searching for another firm. This one talks a good game but doesn't play well with others, especially the partner, JENNY CLARK.

Ryan is literally the worst Attorney I have ever delt with. He lied to me multiple times. He threatened to resign if I did not agree to the horrible stripped down parenting plan that he negtotiated behind my back. Anytime throughout the case If i did not do exactly what he "advised" me to do, he threatened to resign. He did this the day before my trial, which I have since learned is extremely unethical on his part. I didn't know 24 hours before my trial that I could dismiss him and seek new and effective Counsel. Ryan rushed through my case in Court and did nothing to adress all the false and nasty claims by my Ex and her Attorney. Ryan absoutley guaranteed me that I would not have to pay child support. He did this in his office the morning of the trial with my 28 year old Son standing right next to me. When I reminded Ryan of this he said that I was remembering things wrong. He made multiple excuses for his terrible performance and even blamed the result on me. I offered to provide him with my full medical file from my surgeon outlining and detailing the horrific back injury I suffered and the surgeries had to help me walk again. Multiple times (including emails from Ryan) he assured me that the Notes written by my Chiropractor were more than sufficiant and I quote Ryan here "He is a Medical Dr. His word absolutely checks the box". The damage Ryan caused me is lifelong. I was the stay at home parent to 6 children why I supported my Wifes Military career. I am now almost 51 years old and because Ryan only cared about goin on his vacation the day after my Trial, I get 1,100 a month transitional Support for 2 years only. This on my Ex Wife's $9000 a month income. Ryan was completely ineffective during the trial. He had zero rebuttle for countless false allegations and nasty remarks directed at me. Stay away from this guy. He is a terrible Attorney who does not care about you. I should have fired him before the trial but I honestly didn't know I had that option. I could sit here for hours and detail all the underhanded and false things Ryan said and did througought my Divorce and Trial. I can't wait to see the nonsense he responds here with. My name is Jason Nicholson. I live in Cornelius OR, I am on social media. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about this fraud of an Attorney. I saved every single email and took detailed notes during the many phone calls wherein he threatened to resign if I didn't do exactly what he said.

Divorces are not easy, and he was always there to support me in the realms of legal standings. Definitely a straight shooter and to the point lawyer which you need in a divorce trial. He has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to legal manners around divorces. Anyone going through divorce, I would like to say there's no winners or losers. When I first approached Rachel about representing me she was very eager and excited about my case. I hired her in June and she said we would file by the end of Summer. As soon as I signed my contract and gave her a check for fees her communication began to rapidly decline. I constantly had to reach out for updates and every time was given a new personal excuse as to why we had not filed yet. After 6 months of going back and forth with no progress made she threw together my case within days after I mentioned finding new legal representation. The final straw was when she decided to tell me after half a year of leading me to believe my case was worth a specific amount that she wanted to file for 1/10th of the original value she told me. I finally had to part ways with her as my lawyer and now find myself starting all over. Please avoid wasting precious time and energy and find someone better able to handle your case.

From Directing me to other Attorneys to represent me for Bad Employment experiences while taking on my two car accidents pro bono. You've been nothing but a blessing for me and my family. Thanks again for Maxing out the first two settlements, again. Should a Cop (God Forbid) ever mistreat me, I know you're my guy. Should I ever be accused of a crime, I know you're my guy.

The firm was cold, the employees frequently chose not to reply to emails, and while I won my arbitration, this attorney wrote the award in a way that I still lost money trying to protect my rights. They entirely missed the initial protocol to begin arbitration and I had to call them out.. They were late on filings, but sent emails saying they filed on time (do you not know these things are timestamped?).. A general improvement in professionalism and regard for those receiving paid services is greatly needed. They seem to not understand or care about the difficulties of civilians navigating a system that is not weighted in their favor. I would not recommend, find an attorney that is genuinely interested in your protecting equity in your rights over receiving your money.

Elizabeth Savage Handled an appeal for me. She is experienced, very knowledgeable of the law, and professional. I felt very confident with her immediately upon my first consult. Elizabeth settled my case very quickly, and with zero drama. I highly recommend her.

Elizabeth Savage fights hard for her clients. She gave my case all of the time and attention needed to be successful at trial. Not only were the opposing party’s initial claims dismissed, but Elizabeth won me a judgement in the counter-suit. When the opposing party appealed, she successfully negotiated a settlement that I am happy with. Elizabeth really listened, and she put a lot of thought and care into each part of the litigation process. Highly recommend.

I hired Ed Strand to defend me after being arrested on a controlled substance DUII to which I was NOT impaired. When I made my initial call to him he talked with me for 2 hours going over every detail of arrest. He was caring and very thorough. We won my case after 2 years waiting to go to trial. He fought very hard for me and it showed. I would hire Ed Strand again. He believed in my innocence from the first time I talked with him. It was his attention to every little detail that I could give him and his many years as an attorney that impressed me. I learned my rights and how they had been violated. This man is very special to me!! He gave my case full attention. He was always available to personally talk with me. I know that isn't the case with every attorney. I would hire him again without a second thought!!

My son got a DUI in Oregon and I live in Texas. This was very stressful for me since I could not be there to help him through this. Just by chance my son found the name of Ed Strand in the phone book, called him, and he gave me a call. He was so understanding and compassionate that I hired him. He became my lifeline to my son and his court procedures. He was able to get the Diversion Program and helped us through every step of the way. I was always able to get in touch with him which was very important to me. He certainly made this whole, highly stressful situation go smoothly and knowing he was there for my son was very comforting to me. I highly recommend Ed Strand.

Kevin is great. He helps with what he can and is knowledgeable in education law. He helped me get reinstated in my program after they wrongfully dismissed me. Highly recommend even just a consult with him. He assisted me on the next steps of my game plan and he helped clarify the situation entirely. He made me feel confident in fighting to be reinstated. He also had the sweetest dog in the office who was like an emotional support animal during my consult.

I had five months of sheer ringaround with this guy. In early September he said he'd take my case on contingency. In October he said he was busy with trial. In November he said he'd draft a demand letter to the school district. In December he ignored me completely. I chased him for months trying to get the draft he promised. He failed to respond for weeks, sometimes he didn't respond at all, he failed to meet every one of his own deadlines, and never produced the demand letter or any other work product. His communication was abhorrent. His responses were abysmally slow. I finally gave up on him in late December knowing I wasn't going to get anywhere with him. I stopped communicating with him entirely, stopped trying to get him to produce the demand letter, and sought another course of action. In late January, I receive a demand from him for a $2,500 retainer. I've never had a more bizarre experience or met a lawyer who doesn't lawyer. I filed a complaint with the Oregon Bar Association because I believe he violated several rules of professional conduct. He claims he never took me on contingency and I was never his client. Wait, what? I now see this is a page from his playbook by reading other reviews.

I retained Mr. Ivers to represent me in my divorce. The whole process took almost a year. Mr. Ivers was mediocre at best. I dealt with his assistant Jodie most of the time (who was awesome). When we went to trial, Mr. Ivers left out many key pieces. I was very dissatisfied with his performance in court and should’ve fired him months ago.

this lawyer guided me with good advice with a parental interference case, and got me to be able to see my son again after not seeing son for 4 mo from ex wife issues, of which i will forever be grateful to the lawyer. he was helpful but was constantly busy, and indicated he didn't have a lot of time. i honestly feel he was trying to make time, but in the end i was called by his secretary and told that in the time frame i needed help, i would be better off finding another lawyer service, they did provide me a list and a contact number to find lawyers. this was when i was getting ready for a hearing that was coming up in 1 week. but for the time that i was getting advice from this lawyer it was better than i could have done on my own. the one piece of feedback i would like to give to him is if they new they would not be able to help me further then dont take money from me to put into trust fund. of course it is possible that they didn't realize the time involved, or that i would require more than an hour consulting a month until a few days after i made the deposit. it seems like i will get most of it back, but it might be some time. we will see, it seems more like a staffing competence rather than lawyers.... i'm used to professional lawyers from the past but from a larger organized firm. this lawyer is more affordable and i would use him again if i would have assurances for how much help they can and can not do, what they are willing to accept as a consultant, and how often i can contact them, and when i would get a response. even though i think this lawyer has good advice, and is affordable it is really just one or two people that run the show, and they need to learn to organize better, or get better help to organize and i hope they take this feedback and i wish them success. i feel this lawyer would do better working at a larger firm than deal with all the hustle and logistics of a business.

When I was served with a divorce I thought I would handle it by myself even though my soon to be ex had a lawyer. I learned very quickly that was a bad idea. There are way too many laws, rules, procedures, etc that have to be followed. Doing it myself went downhill pretty quickly so I wanted to get a lawyer. I asked some people for help finding a lawyer, and several of them gave me Andy's name. He is great at explaining things so that you understand them even when there are a whole lot of moving parts. I was amazed at how well he understands people and can predict what will happen or people will do. After he got involved we eventually came to a settlement that basically gave me what I asked for to start with.

Don Scales was my public defender back in 2015. At our very 1st meeting I discovered he hadn't even looked at my case file yet. He asked me repeatedly what I wanted, "what would be your Christmas morning?" But when I told him he laughed at me and said, "that's not gonna happen." Had I known I was supposed to do his job for him I would've come in better prepared. Again at our second meeting he knew none of the details of my case, was rude & at our 1st court appearance he fired me. He's not a good attorney, certainly wasn't for me. He never listened to me & failed to even become familiar with my case.

Donald Scales was my first interaction with an attorney. After a horrible and stressful several months I found myself needing legal aid. Mr. Scales provided the help I needed. He fixed everything better than I had hoped and I am truly grateful for his services. I know that all sounds cliche, but it's true. I was nervous the first time I called him on the phone but he was a good listener and caring. He really seemed to care about my situation. I hired him and he did more than he thought he could. He didn't make any empty promises. He just gave some predictions on what may be likely outcomes and I am very happy with the outcome. He really was very easy to talk to. I felt comfortable being open and honest with him and I am sure that helped. I had several interactions with his legal team and they too were helpful and caring. So thank you. If you choose Mr. Scales and his team you won't be disappointed.

Hired this "attorney?" for a child custody case for my daughter. Extremely unprofessional in her demeanor and attire. She charges $275.00 an hour for her services and will charge you for every little thing! During her/our first hearing with the judge, she was unable to even present her case after a combative attitude and heated arguments with the judge. Judge decided case without even speaking to my daughter, or any of her witnesses because of this. We fired her and her final bill was trumped up to squeeze out every last dime from us...Final cost: $5500.+ just up to the FIRST hearing! BUYER BEWARE, it is our opinion that it is all about running up the bill with her!

When we came to Shelley, we were desperate. My husband had been dealing with having his daughter withheld from him at random, and constant abusive text messages from his daughter's mother. His daughter was not in the greatest situation, and the judge was believing all of the lies that were being told to her for years upon years. Enough was enough! We searched and searched, Shelley came to the rescue! She gave us hope, and reminded my husband that he IS a good father, and deserves his daughter on a consistent basis. She gave specific guidance on how to organize information and give it to her. She did not make any open ended promises. Shelley is very black and white. She keeps it real. She isn't going to sugar coat things for you, or fluff things up to make them what they aren't. If she needs something or has a concern she will bring it to the appropriate person's attention in a professional manner. She helped make our family complete. She has been a great investment to our family, and gave us what we were not able to achieve on our own...our daughter. Not only was my husband granted more parenting time, but he was also granted sole custody. Now we can rest easy knowing that she is getting the BEST possible care and education, all thanks to Shelley Fuller! We love her!

Divorce is a scare thing I felt. But Shelly not only told me my rights as a wife but also made sure I understood them. My ex was not only violent but mentally and verbally aggressive. I was afraid. But Shelly reassured me that the law was there.... it gave me a great level of peace. She's amazing and I will always make sure people who need her know it!!!!

What a Personal Injury Lawyer Can Do for You

A personal injury lawyer specializes in helping individuals who have been physically or emotionally injured due to the negligence or wrongful actions of another party. Whether you've been hurt in a car accident, suffered a slip and fall, or experienced medical malpractice, a personal injury attorney works to ensure you receive fair compensation for your injuries. They can help you recover damages for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other related expenses.

Personal injury lawyers act as your advocate, navigating the legal system on your behalf and dealing with insurance companies to ensure you get the compensation you deserve. They understand how to handle complex legal matters and help you avoid common pitfalls.

When Should I Hire a Personal Injury Lawyer?

Hiring a personal injury lawyer can be beneficial in many situations where you've been harmed due to another's negligence. Some key scenarios include:

  • Severe injuries: If you've suffered significant or permanent injuries that result in substantial medical bills, a lawyer can help ensure you are fairly compensated.
  • Long-term or permanent disability: Injuries that affect your ability to work or require ongoing medical treatment are complex, and a lawyer can help estimate long-term damages.
  • Disputed liability: If the responsible party or their insurance company denies liability for your injury, a lawyer can gather evidence and advocate on your behalf.
  • Insurance company lowball offers: Insurers often try to settle personal injury claims for as little as possible. A lawyer can negotiate to get you a fair settlement.
  • Medical malpractice claims: Injuries caused by a doctor, nurse, or healthcare provider due to negligence require a personal injury lawyer experienced in medical malpractice law.
  • Exposure to hazardous substances: If you've been injured due to exposure to toxins, chemicals, or dangerous substances, a lawyer can help pursue legal action.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is crucial, especially if you're unsure of the full extent of your injuries or damages.

What Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Do?

A personal injury lawyer provides a wide range of services to guide you through the legal process and maximize your compensation. They can:

  • Evaluate your case: A lawyer will assess the strength of your claim and determine whether you have a viable case.
  • Investigate the incident: Gathering evidence such as police reports, witness statements, medical records, and expert opinions is key to building a strong case.
  • Negotiate with insurance companies: Lawyers handle communications with insurance companies to ensure you receive a fair settlement and aren't taken advantage of.
  • File a lawsuit if necessary: If a fair settlement can't be reached, the lawyer can file a personal injury lawsuit on your behalf and represent you in court.
  • Help calculate damages: This includes medical expenses, lost wages, future medical needs, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.
  • Prepare and file legal documents: Lawyers handle all the paperwork and deadlines associated with your case, including filing motions and discovery requests.
  • Represent you at trial: If your case goes to trial, the lawyer will argue your case before a judge and jury to obtain the compensation you deserve.

How Are Personal Injury Lawyers Paid?

Most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis. This means they only get paid if they win your case, either through settlement or a court judgment. Here’s how it works:

  • Contingency fee percentage: The lawyer will take a percentage of the settlement or award, typically between 25% and 40%, depending on the complexity of the case and the stage at which it's resolved.
  • Costs and expenses: In addition to the contingency fee, the lawyer may deduct other costs associated with the case, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, and court costs. These expenses are often advanced by the lawyer and repaid out of the settlement.
  • No upfront payment: Since the lawyer’s fee is contingent on winning, you usually don’t pay anything upfront.

Always discuss the lawyer’s fee structure during your consultation to avoid surprises.

How Much Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a personal injury lawyer depends on the specifics of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure. However, since most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, the amount you pay will depend on the outcome of your case. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Contingency fees: Typically range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award. The percentage may increase if the case goes to trial or requires an appeal.
  • Other costs: In addition to the lawyer's fee, you may be responsible for case-related expenses such as expert witness fees, medical record retrieval fees, and court costs. These are often deducted from your settlement, so you won't have to pay out of pocket.

While the cost may seem high, hiring an experienced lawyer can significantly increase the amount you recover, making it a worthwhile investment.

Top Questions to Ask a Personal Injury Lawyer

Before hiring a personal injury lawyer, it's essential to ask questions to ensure you’re choosing the right representation. Here are some important questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with personal injury cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has handled cases involving similar injuries or accidents.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a contingency fee and what percentage they will take from any settlement or award.
  3. How long will my case take?
While it's hard to predict, a lawyer can give you an estimate based on similar cases they’ve handled.
  4. How often do you take cases to trial?
Some lawyers prefer to settle quickly, while others are more comfortable going to court if necessary.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
In larger firms, junior lawyers or paralegals may handle some aspects of your case, so it's important to know who will be managing your claim.
  6. Do you have references from past clients?
Speaking with past clients can provide valuable insight into the lawyer’s effectiveness and professionalism.

How to Check the Credibility of a Personal Injury Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a credible personal injury lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, and Google reviews can provide insight into the lawyer's reputation and client satisfaction.
  • Look at their track record: Review their experience with personal injury cases, particularly how many cases they’ve successfully resolved or taken to trial.
  • Ask for references: Credible lawyers should be willing to provide references from past clients who can vouch for their work.
  • Check professional memberships: Lawyers who are members of respected organizations, like the American Association for Justice (AAJ), often have a solid reputation in the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with a personal injury lawyer, prepare the following:

  • Detailed account of the accident: Write down everything you remember about the incident, including dates, times, and locations. Include any witnesses or police reports if available.
  • Medical records and bills: Bring any documentation of your injuries, treatments, and associated medical costs.
  • Insurance information: Provide your insurance details and any communication you’ve had with the other party’s insurance company.
  • Employment and income records: If your injury has impacted your ability to work, bring proof of lost wages or reduced earning capacity.
  • Photos or videos: If you have photos of the accident scene, your injuries, or property damage, bring them to your consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare a list of questions to ask, including how the lawyer will handle your case and what you can expect in terms of timeline and outcome.

By preparing thoroughly for your first consultation, you’ll help the lawyer understand your case more quickly and get a better sense of your legal options.
