Made an appointment weeks in advance with Mr. Lay to discuss my issue. Appointment was for 3pm - still have handwritten note saying 3p with other instructions I was given. Called prior to my appointment about emailing him info before our phone appointment, and the receptionist stated my appointment was at 11 am. Wrong! Not a good way to treat a potential client. Given the quality of the receptionist if you DO make an appointment, repeat it back to their receptionist several times so you know you are on the same page. Or you will be stuck like I am starting all over again for an appointment weeks out.

Josh worked quickly, clearly, and effectively to reduce not only the length of time spent on litigation of a dispute but also reducing the overall cost. He spoke honestly and openly with me about the case I had sought his counsel on, and I appreciated his honest approach to the potential options and resources. I would highly recommend his service.

Mr Zantello does not return phone calls in a timely manner. He also made a payment arrangement with me that was not kept by his mentor Issac Ersoff. As well as being slow in action in regards to my case. Mr Zantello then unexpectedly leaves for five months without relaying any info about my case to his colleague Mr Ersoff. I'm very displeased with how I have been treated by Andrews Cramer and Ersoff!!!!

Mr. Hedges did absolutely nothing on my case to move it forward. He held it for a year until it was due to expire. He would not take or return my phone calls or requests for information. He moved his offices and did not notify me of his new location or even that he had moved. When I looked him up, through my Internet browser to try and locate him, I found the reports of his misconduct. I found his new address and quickly drove to his offices to get my file and to ask him why he had not done anything to move my case forward and why he did not inform me that he had moved his office. I requested my file, told him he was fired and informed him that I had hired another lawyer. He had no answer for me. He turned his back, went to dig up my file, handed it to me and said, "This does not bother me at all. Good luck." Then walked away.

Doug was skilled in the legal formalities, if you will. His timid court presence was Frustrating and quite ineffective during trial. I had two suits he represented me in... after the 2nd trial he disappeared. Doesn't answer his phone, or return emails. He represented a friend of mine and ghosted him as well. Frustrating to say the least because his services are still required to get my settlement finalized. I hope he hasn't passed away from covid...

Anthony helped out with a false arrest case as a public defender and got me off on the charges. I thought I he did a great job of taking care of me. He convinced me that not all judges are bad. I guess some other people review attorneys based on if they won or lost. My case was such that Anthony could not have cared, but he gave my case an impartial look and even though I deserved criticism he only gave me constructive feedback.

I was a client of this lawyer, through the public defense program in Eugene. I found him to be unresponsive to the facts of my case, and initially unwilling to consult me on even the most basic facts of my case. He did not note or consider any of the information I provided to him (verbally) in our meeting. If I could afford representation I would not have given him even a first chance to meet with me. I would have left after speaking with him for about four minutes max, if I even considered hiring him in the first place. That is the truth. My experience with him was that bad and I found him to be that unprofessional. I could tell immediately he was going to ignore everything I said to him. It is not my job to coerce legal representation provided by the public into doing some work on my behalf. This attorney had taken on a responsibility to members of the public including me, and he is thus responsible for ensuring the American right to counsel as he can best provide it. He is either incompetent, completely, or flagrantly disrespecting his duty ethically as a public defender. Each individual he is assigned is equally entitled to counsel, and these are people that are coming to him with no other recourse. You would think that reality would elicit concern, but that was not my impression. My impression was that my counsel felt I did not deserve him or deserve counsel at all. If Anthony Rosta doesn't like his responsibility to the public, or can't provide counsel (competently) to every one of his clients, I believe he should quit. As his client it is my right to come forward with all the information I have about my charges and my case. My attorney should be willing to think creatively and problem solve about the facts of the case, both the facts I present and the facts the city presents. A part of representation is investigating and gathering facts. If an attorney won't go forward without proof or evidence of some kind from his clients, he should notify his clients immediately of that. Instead of immediately doing this with me and saving me some time he played mind-games, perhaps believing I was doing so as well. I experienced him as being image-obsessed, as if our meetings were somehow about him or what he would believe as an intelligent and experienced person and attorney. Yet it was not about him, and it didn't seem like he could see that. I was very disappointed with his counsel, and not only did he speak to me like a small child, he employed psychologically aggressive gaslighting techniques. Perhaps this is his way of communicating a different subtext I did not understand, but its effect was not to communicate anything at all except an unwillingness to work or see things from the clients' perspective. When someone has been through something upsetting or traumatic, the use of aggressive or confrontational techniques that directly negate the clients stated version of events can distort the truth from the client, or the ability of the client to recall correct information, which is not what you want. It is stressful to be repeatedly contradicted and denied when in the presence of your supposed ally who is supposed to be helping you further your interests. I have already thought I recalled information that was not correct at least twice because of the disrespectful manner in which I was engaged by two separate attorneys with Rosta and Connelly. I hope it is not this bad everywhere but I suspect it is. Without legal counsel I do not know how I will be able to proceed.

Lucy demonstrated she is not capable of representing those who desire anything other than to throw themselves at the mercy of the court or are simply willing to settle for mediocrity about their representation. Lucy takes on FAR to large a caseload and in turn does not communicate proactively or effectively. She does not answer phone calls, she returns emails and texts when it appears she feels that she has no choice.  She does not follow reasonable client requests regarding providing discovery, exhibits, etc.  She only takes the time to communicate when she knows she has dropped the ball.  Her lack of initiative and professionalism cost me unnecessary time in jail, money, and more importantly frustration.  I am VERY calm and reasonable.  I understand professionalism and attempt to do the best job one can.  I essentially represented myself.  In the end, she provided nothing to my situation.  She added insult to injury by not following through with disputing Lake Oswego Municipal Court from billing me for her court-appointed attorney services.  Short of having a license with the bar I don't know what aptitude she brought to the table. I discourage anyone from placing their future in the counsel of Lucy.

As a first nation I struggle with identity and acceptance of the populations in the Americas in simply making jurisdictions in-laws to over substance substantiate what has happened in history in America does not negate any of the facts on how political framing exist I pray for every first nation in America and I pray that Lucy also heals from stating she had enough hearing about my ancestors for all court-appointed people in the biracial Community we are in a period where our ancestors are and will always be allowed to be discussed. I had to end the relationship a d engagement due to cultural reasons and hope her clients are happy yet in my 1st nation life, we talk soind act and are different. Not in truth of Our boarding schools some acknowledgements must be done by those whom hold those same standards, that have covered up our peoples stories. I have ptsd anxiety and generational trauma. None of my emails were ever responded too, and I am sorry but our Ancestors abuse is handed down And taught. In reality I pray over understanding of this period in a non western conflict.

I came to Peter to get help with my pending divorce after a disastrous start with another lawyer. Yes, his fees are high, but I feel like I paid for the best and got it. He is efficient, and I never felt like he was padding the bill. He might dictate a letter and have his assistant type it up for a total charge of 30 minutes, whereas a less experienced attorney would charge one or two hours to write a similar document. Peter demonstrated excellent knowledge and experience. Most importantly, he has a strong personality. I don't want a lawyer who just does what I say. I want one who can explain to me the situation I'm in and the options I have, whether I want to hear it or not, and then let me choose my path.

I ended up finding an attorney who wasn't pompous and rude.

After long hours of work travel and caring for my elderly parents I returned to a restraining order and found myself without my home. I shopped around & scheduled meetings with 5 Lawyers. Ms. Runstein was the only one who told me that she will do her best to win/mitigate the accusations. Robin had a firm handshake and an On-Point attitude. She tackled the issue without hesitation and intended to resolve it within our first meeting. She presented me with all possibilities in a layered approach. Robin Runstein carefully planned against each allegation, and Beautifully executed in the court room. Needless to say, the Judge was convinced to reject the restraining order. I would HIGHLY recommend Robin Runstein to anyone looking for a Great Lawyer. I only wish her Father (Ted R.) could have seen her flawless performance.

I want to inform other abused women of my experience with Robin Runstein who served as my divorce attorney from June 2013 – June 2015. In my opinion, Ms. Runstein’s significant and consistent lack of preparedness and legal accuracy, combined with her inability/unwillingness to communicate effectively in a timely manner with me (her client) and with opposing counsel, made an already dangerous situation for my children and me, far worse. I do not believe I was well represented and I would not recommend her.

Jeffrey failed me in every way and it's my opinion that he lacked empathy or respect for the difficulties I was facing. It is also my honest opinion that I do not recommend him for legal services. He took advantage of me during a time I was vulnerable, while incurring excessive fees without providing the help I needed. Jeffrey Frasier increased his wages in the middle of our litigation without proper notice. He racked up a higher price tag with tasks that should have been completed in a shorter time frame, especially with his background and experience. He added billable hours to my invoice, then later sued me for his fees. He made no reasonable offers to settle our fee dispute, and even failed to attend our scheduled mediation. When making an important decision to hire a lawyer to represent your important legal matters... you need to ask yourself..... do you want someone who is willing to bring a suit against the client vs. assigning their fee claims to a collection agency? I really wish I would have done my homework, before being damaged and financially ruined by Jeffrey Frasier

Sara L. Gabin is the most obnoxious attorney I have ever had the misfortune of coming in contact with. Every adversarial attorney I have dealt with were at least capable of listening to more than five words without interrupting and then giving a response as if they actually considered what you had said. She is not! Trying to explain the circumstances of a somewhat complicated case to her was like swimming in a school of Parana. I suspect people having a free consultation with her not only come away knowing it wasn’t worth every cent of it , but feeling cheated out of five minutes of life they spent in her presence. I did not get that far. She may actually know what she’s doing, but she made up her mind about the case I brought to her before the first sentence was done and couldn’t be convinced to listen after that. She even interrupted me when I tried to wish her a Merry Christmas and Better year next year.

I have contacted several Portland Area attorneys regarding my disability case for multiple illnesses, including a life threatening disease. In comparison she was incredibly rude and insensitive. While she gave a similar overview of the how the process would work as did other attorneys, I was quite surprised when she cut me off before I was able to give her all of my diagnosis. I had only started with some of my less serious issues when she said that she was wasting her time and she did not know why she was speaking to me. I think that if a professional is concerned with wasting her time on cases she is not interested in taking on they should have a screening process and not berate the person for calling. Many people applying for disability are doing it as a last resort and may find it painful to discuss. My diagnosis of Melanoma took my father's life and my diagnosis is still very fresh to me. All other attorney expressed sympathy, but she belittled me for saying one of my issues was depression. By the time she hung up I had begun to cry. I wondered why someone wanting to represent the disabled would be so cruel, but she made her intentions clear. She wants to make money, she did not think I would make her money, and so she had no time for a moment of kindness. Other attorneys expressed that my case was complicated but in no way said anything to make me feel worse about my situation. They offered helpful advise on next steps and encouraged me to make another appointment. I called her because I wanted to support a female independent attorney. I wish I had done more research when I found other serious questions about her professionalism.

I wrote his office, told them what happened in the ER, mentioned how I was misdiagnosed by the doctor (and this was after I specifically told the ER Doctor what the problem most likely was, and that I needed to be referred to a couple specialists), then I was threatened by the ER Doctor, who stated she would withhold the referrals I needed to fix my issue, unless I selected a primary care provider of their choosing, since I didn't have one yet. I didn't want to choose one, as I had just the day prior to being seen, finally received health insurance from my work, and was not sure if they would require me to select a primary care provider of the insurances choosing or not, since a lot of them do require in-network doctors only, which I told her and the administrator that was with her when they forced me to choose one or not get the referrals I required. His company stated while they were sorry it happened, his office was not going to represent me. Excerpt from his offices response: (This a direct cut and paste) "Your good fortune to have survived all you went through is why you do not have a case to pursue with our office. We see “almost died” cases regularly. They stem from traumatic events, bad medical attention and wrong diagnosis. But the patients, like yourself, survived and escaped significant injury caused by the substandard care. The damages are insufficient to merit a case. Glad you are doing much better. You have two yrs. to file a malpractice claim from the date of your poor care should you elect to pursue this matter further. It just won’t be with our firm . Thanks for your inquiry." So, correct me if I am wrong, but, his website specifically states they go after bad misdiagnosis and bad ER situations, which mine was, yet, his office won't touch this? Excerpt direct from his website, cut and pasted: We assist injured people with a wide range of medical malpractice cases, including: Birth injuries to a mother or child The wrongful death of a patient Errors in surgery and retained surgical instruments Radiology and anesthesia errors Emergency room mistakes (This one was relevant to my situation) Failure to diagnose illnesses or injuries (Also relevant) Seems that perhaps his office or he doesn't care about "hard to work" cases, just the ones they feel will be able to outfit their lifestyle with fast/easy money only. I don't recommend anyone to use his offices services, especially if they never help those that have been rooked by the system that his office claims they go after, and don't.

I hired Man 2 years ago to help me with my auto injury accident. In the beginning, he was ok. After about 6 months, he basically fell off the earth. It was take months between contacts despite me trying to contact him via phone, email, or texting. He would never respond. A year after my accident, it was time to close the case and file the complaint for compensation. In Oregon, you have 2 years from the time of your accident to do this. He said there was plenty of time but he would get the paperwork together including all medical records and file this complaint. Fast forward 6 more months, after numerous tries by me to contact him, he stated we were on track. Now here we are almost exactly at the 2 year mark and guess what!? I have not heard from him in 4 months. Finally I was fed up with it and hired someone else. I found out that Man Vu NEVER FILED ANY PAPERWORK at all! He as literally done nothing on my case for 18 months! This was confirmed by my new lawyer! I have less than a week to get my new lawyer everything and for him to file the complaint for compensation. Man has literally done nothing for 18 months on my case and then lied to me about it. I am glad that I hired someone else in time otherwise I would not be getting anything for my injuries. This will no doubt have a great effect on what I will get now since my new lawyer has to frantically put my case together.

Its hard to believe shes still in practice. This attorney does not return calls, does less than bare minimum for clients, and it seems as if she works with DA's office. After a year of "(defending)" my son, she has done NOTHING to defend him. Late or no show court appearances, outbursts of overwhelmed statements, and negative comments about her client, we are expecting a class action group of unsatisfied defendants (which wasn't hard), this lawyer has more violations in attorney misconduct than ever seen. It is my personal experience that when Lynne Dickison is appointed by the courts to represent a client as a Public Defender, you will receive the bare minimum representation allowed by law. Mrs Dickison's interests are aligned with the Assistant District Attorneys in criminal cases. I highly recommend paying her a large up front cash (or check/money order) retainer. From my personal experience, Mrs. Dickison makes no effort to earn the taxpayer dollars that she receives when she is appointed by the courts to act as a Public Defender. Make sure to get all paperwork related to your case, including work done and billable hours. Best of luck.

I hired Mr Sumner to represent me in my divorce in 2011. He missed the deadline to submit work on my parenting plan, and a different parenting plan was put in that I did not agree with. I would avoid Mr Sumner at all costs.

I hired this attorney for a personal injury claim and was not impressed with his ability or follow through. I hoped he would pursue my case strongly, but I didn't feel he put much time or effort into it. I would not recommend him.

Mr. Sumner did not impress me as having a broad knowledge of the law and I didn't feel he did a very good job in court advancing my case. I felt let down by him after spending a significant amount of money. Caveat emptor.

I cant ever get a hold of him every time I call. I cant even leave a message ever and my case starts in court with in a week. Why do I always get lawyers here in Jackson county who genuinely don't represent me to the best of their abilities. Maybe they just don't have better"abilities" here because it's not the standard. They are all just puppets at the public defenders office.. I don't know. But what I do know is that I don't want to be found guilty of things I did not do. Hence my charges are b.s. I need time to have a fighting chance which this has carried on over a year now with the least effort possible.not even cracking my case to read it yet. Let me tell you.

it is my belief that Mr Kellington cares more about his standing within the community of lawyers and judges he will not risk anything on the behalf of a client. I was heartbroken to see how little he tried to represent me. Jim convicted felon

She's great if your case is easy, or if you're actually guilty, or if you want to sign a plea deal. Elvia got insanely rude with me once she realized I was not going to sign a plea deal because I didn't see it fit for the crime, so she requested a trial. During that time, I took it upon myself to request a different attorney and the judge granted it - which hardly ever happens, shows you how horrible she is. Long story short, my new attorney got my case dismissed. Please, don't go to her.

Elvia is a great lawyer. did what she said and said what she did. she got right in there and got the job done. not only kept me out of jail but reduced my criminal ticket to a driving violation, at half the cost of the original ticket. she is great at what she does. if you need a good lawyer one who will stand up for you and defend you- you want Elvia on your case and and on your side.

No thanks! Your entire job is answering the phone. Hire someone to do this. What does my $300 dollars an hour go towards, if not a secretary who will answer the phone when I need it, at 10 AM on a Tuesday! This is highly unprofessional. You have lost my business.

I had an IRS situation that he said was a very easy case. I should be resolved in about a year, that was almost 3 years ago and I am still waiting. I gave him all my personal and financial information and he called me several weeks later and said he was still waiting for it. Very unorganized! I do not think he knew what he was doing. My case is still pending and he told me he has moved to LA. I do not trust his knowledge of the law at all.

This lawyer disappeared like a contractor! This was after he took our case and gave us hope and the illusion that he would be there for us. Total waste of time! Unless you have BIG $$$ or a case requiring no effort or any of his time, as a client you will be left in dust - this lawyer is un-responsive, seems unclear as to laws - unwilling to advise clients and can be intimidating to deal with. Very bad experience with no results, unless you can count wasting our time a result.

Did not defend the kids Best interest and tried to manipulate my children into a parenting plan against their will. I actually have a recording of Laurie threating my child that if they didn't go with their other parent, the judge would switch custody. It terrified my child and from that point, trust with her attorney was lost. I was given a choice of attorneys by the courts and I originally thought Laurie was a good choice because her family has dealt with suicide and my spouse had numerous suicidal incidents and ideation. Unfortunately, Laurie was not sympathetic to the children instead she felt sorry for my spouse since her kids had lost their father to suicide. Just Be Careful and protect your kids no one has their best interest like you do! It's sad that I am stuck with a bill for an attorney who didn't represent my kids best interest. During some hearings, Laurie did not say a peep even when she had a chance to advocate for the kids regarding parenting plans and financial support, but I was still billed for her attendance. She thinks my kids should live on the streets and sell our house to pay her ridiculous fees.

She was supposed to be neutral in our case as a court appointed attorney for our children. I did question the need for any attorney for the kids as the ex-wife who was the main driver behind getting an attorney for the children involved in our case and not the children, as she noted in our case herself. The main point that I want to make in this review is that she did not act in a neutral manner as was required by law. Beyond that, she actively made up lies about me in the court and thankfully the judge was able see right through them! I had to learn first hand the extent that the lawyer's creed takes president over the truth! The biggest "crime" with her in my case is that she made extremely damning statements and never took any effort to verify them with me! :-( Aside from ruining the case, she has ruined the resemblance of a family and I hope this review serves as a warning to others who have her as a court appointed attorney for their children...BE FOREWARNED!!!

Do not go to this guy! If he's appointed to you, fire him! He comes across as "Do whatever dhs says if you want your kids back." What about dhs shouldn't have ever taken them?? What happened to defending your client?? It took me 8yrs fighting the injustice system. I finally got full custody just in time to find out my son had a brain tumor the size of an orange on his brainstem & was close to death. Ya this "lawyer" was the first mistake. Hiring one of his parters, mistake #2. Good luck out there!!

What a Personal Injury Lawyer Can Do for You

A personal injury lawyer specializes in helping individuals who have been physically or emotionally injured due to the negligence or wrongful actions of another party. Whether you've been hurt in a car accident, suffered a slip and fall, or experienced medical malpractice, a personal injury attorney works to ensure you receive fair compensation for your injuries. They can help you recover damages for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other related expenses.

Personal injury lawyers act as your advocate, navigating the legal system on your behalf and dealing with insurance companies to ensure you get the compensation you deserve. They understand how to handle complex legal matters and help you avoid common pitfalls.

When Should I Hire a Personal Injury Lawyer?

Hiring a personal injury lawyer can be beneficial in many situations where you've been harmed due to another's negligence. Some key scenarios include:

  • Severe injuries: If you've suffered significant or permanent injuries that result in substantial medical bills, a lawyer can help ensure you are fairly compensated.
  • Long-term or permanent disability: Injuries that affect your ability to work or require ongoing medical treatment are complex, and a lawyer can help estimate long-term damages.
  • Disputed liability: If the responsible party or their insurance company denies liability for your injury, a lawyer can gather evidence and advocate on your behalf.
  • Insurance company lowball offers: Insurers often try to settle personal injury claims for as little as possible. A lawyer can negotiate to get you a fair settlement.
  • Medical malpractice claims: Injuries caused by a doctor, nurse, or healthcare provider due to negligence require a personal injury lawyer experienced in medical malpractice law.
  • Exposure to hazardous substances: If you've been injured due to exposure to toxins, chemicals, or dangerous substances, a lawyer can help pursue legal action.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is crucial, especially if you're unsure of the full extent of your injuries or damages.

What Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Do?

A personal injury lawyer provides a wide range of services to guide you through the legal process and maximize your compensation. They can:

  • Evaluate your case: A lawyer will assess the strength of your claim and determine whether you have a viable case.
  • Investigate the incident: Gathering evidence such as police reports, witness statements, medical records, and expert opinions is key to building a strong case.
  • Negotiate with insurance companies: Lawyers handle communications with insurance companies to ensure you receive a fair settlement and aren't taken advantage of.
  • File a lawsuit if necessary: If a fair settlement can't be reached, the lawyer can file a personal injury lawsuit on your behalf and represent you in court.
  • Help calculate damages: This includes medical expenses, lost wages, future medical needs, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.
  • Prepare and file legal documents: Lawyers handle all the paperwork and deadlines associated with your case, including filing motions and discovery requests.
  • Represent you at trial: If your case goes to trial, the lawyer will argue your case before a judge and jury to obtain the compensation you deserve.

How Are Personal Injury Lawyers Paid?

Most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis. This means they only get paid if they win your case, either through settlement or a court judgment. Here’s how it works:

  • Contingency fee percentage: The lawyer will take a percentage of the settlement or award, typically between 25% and 40%, depending on the complexity of the case and the stage at which it's resolved.
  • Costs and expenses: In addition to the contingency fee, the lawyer may deduct other costs associated with the case, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, and court costs. These expenses are often advanced by the lawyer and repaid out of the settlement.
  • No upfront payment: Since the lawyer’s fee is contingent on winning, you usually don’t pay anything upfront.

Always discuss the lawyer’s fee structure during your consultation to avoid surprises.

How Much Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a personal injury lawyer depends on the specifics of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure. However, since most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, the amount you pay will depend on the outcome of your case. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Contingency fees: Typically range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award. The percentage may increase if the case goes to trial or requires an appeal.
  • Other costs: In addition to the lawyer's fee, you may be responsible for case-related expenses such as expert witness fees, medical record retrieval fees, and court costs. These are often deducted from your settlement, so you won't have to pay out of pocket.

While the cost may seem high, hiring an experienced lawyer can significantly increase the amount you recover, making it a worthwhile investment.

Top Questions to Ask a Personal Injury Lawyer

Before hiring a personal injury lawyer, it's essential to ask questions to ensure you’re choosing the right representation. Here are some important questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with personal injury cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has handled cases involving similar injuries or accidents.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a contingency fee and what percentage they will take from any settlement or award.
  3. How long will my case take?
While it's hard to predict, a lawyer can give you an estimate based on similar cases they’ve handled.
  4. How often do you take cases to trial?
Some lawyers prefer to settle quickly, while others are more comfortable going to court if necessary.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
In larger firms, junior lawyers or paralegals may handle some aspects of your case, so it's important to know who will be managing your claim.
  6. Do you have references from past clients?
Speaking with past clients can provide valuable insight into the lawyer’s effectiveness and professionalism.

How to Check the Credibility of a Personal Injury Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a credible personal injury lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, and Google reviews can provide insight into the lawyer's reputation and client satisfaction.
  • Look at their track record: Review their experience with personal injury cases, particularly how many cases they’ve successfully resolved or taken to trial.
  • Ask for references: Credible lawyers should be willing to provide references from past clients who can vouch for their work.
  • Check professional memberships: Lawyers who are members of respected organizations, like the American Association for Justice (AAJ), often have a solid reputation in the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with a personal injury lawyer, prepare the following:

  • Detailed account of the accident: Write down everything you remember about the incident, including dates, times, and locations. Include any witnesses or police reports if available.
  • Medical records and bills: Bring any documentation of your injuries, treatments, and associated medical costs.
  • Insurance information: Provide your insurance details and any communication you’ve had with the other party’s insurance company.
  • Employment and income records: If your injury has impacted your ability to work, bring proof of lost wages or reduced earning capacity.
  • Photos or videos: If you have photos of the accident scene, your injuries, or property damage, bring them to your consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare a list of questions to ask, including how the lawyer will handle your case and what you can expect in terms of timeline and outcome.

By preparing thoroughly for your first consultation, you’ll help the lawyer understand your case more quickly and get a better sense of your legal options.
