Anne Hoke Law Firm was the attorney for my husband's workman's compensation case. They were upfront with us on all aspects of the case. Steve represented us well. He called us for information on what he needed and what would be litigated. He always met us when needed and spoke very well in terms we could understand. I would definitely use them again if needed.

Anne and Steve are great Attorneys, they're great at explaining everything to you. They will explain things until you fully understand right down to the littles thing. If you hire this law firm you must demand to work with Patty. She is the Heart and Soul of Anne Hoke's Law Firm. With every phone call or email you know she cares about you and your case. Also Patty treats you as a real person and not just another client with a case number. If anyone who reads this review and are in need of a Lawyer you can't go wrong with Anne and Steve because Patty is there looking out for you and this is why she is the Heart and Soul at this law firm. Plus she is under paid and if she was getting double what she makes now she stills under paid. Anne should give Patty a raise because she deserves one.

At first I was treated great. Now I leave several messages keep getting told “they are in meetings” communication is horrible. They don’t even apologize for them not returning calls. Not very presentable when we go to hearings. Then we need to tell the lawyer what to say. Don’t make this mistake and hire this law firm

Lee and his team were extremely helpful throughout this entire process. They answered all my questions and emails thoroughly & helped me through a very difficult transition. Lee and his team always answered my emails almost immediately. I ended up having a “virtual” court case through ZOOM due to COVID-19, & Lee was a great partner even through this unique situation. I highly recommend Lee for as a lawyer, especially in a bankruptcy case.

After hiring this attorney to help me file chapter 13 to save my home, I was blindsided when I received documents in the mail telling me that my home was sold at auction, and that I must vacate my home of 15 years! I never saw this coming. I have signed retainer, after retainer, which is what seemed to matter the most to Lee Tuchman. He however did not explain the process to me, and I have not received any prior notification from Lee Tuchman or meetings. He has not reasonablly communicated with me. I just assumed he knew what he was doing. Obviously not! I stopped by his office, left numerous emails, and I tried to call him. He seems to be "hiding" from my presence.

Mr. Phillip C. Levin has been my attorney for the past 30 plus years. He's very professional, attentive and always willing to listen. Over the years, I have retained him at a very reasonable cost in over a dozen incidents from DWI to Accidents, to even my dogs and the outcome has always been positive for me!!! I would recommend his services not matter what the issue. Simply put, he's the BEST attorney in Maryland, let alone Baltimore!! If you need an attorney, you should definitely reach out to him.

For as much help as Ms Hotchkiss brought to my case, I would've been better served if she hadn't shown up to court. She was unprepared and did not present evidence she told me she was going to use. She didn't stay on track with her questioning and seemed flustered. The judge barely paid attention to her when she made objections. She was unconcerned that I lost my case and I feel like I just threw away a lot of money. I would never recommend her.

When served with custody papers, I had no idea how to proceed or what to do next. Phyllis was a perfect choice for me. She not only knows what she is doing, but had truly had my best interest at heart throughout my case. She kept me not only informed but in check when I needed it. In the end, I got more then I ever imagined I would. I cannot speak highly enough of Phyllis!

Mr. Beach has been representing my office in Workers' Compensation cases. As a healthcare provider I interact with many Workers' Compensation lawyers. Jim represents my office because he gets results. Insurance companies often try to avoid payment on healthcare bills. Mr. Beach has dong a great job of getting them to pay. He has also represented my patients in Workers' Comp and auto accident cases. I have never heard a complaints about him. I highly recommend him.

I would not recommend this attorney. I think his priorites are elsewhere, and his only focus is how quick he can get his clients to settle their case so he can make a quick profit. Very pushy when he thinks your case, and your medical treatment{s} are not going as well as he thinks they should. In other words, he is very inpatient if he thinks your case and your healing from an accident/injury is taking too long. He asked many times if i was ready to go to settlement yet, which i thought was out of character, because i always thought a lawyer was supposed to have your best interest and trust at heart. You will not find that with this particular attorney. Also, he would always ask me to refer "New" clients/friends in his direction, which i didnt deem appropriate.

Kristy knows her stuff with family law. Sets realistic expectations based on her experience and will also fight for what you want. She has experience litigating which is a must if you think you may go to trial. I believe her experience and reputation in the court system is what caused the other, very experienced but much more bombastic, attorney to settle at the 11th hour and I got what I was told my ex would “never” agree to. Worth every penny.

Half the time we spent on my case was fixing his screw up's or that of his original paralegal Pam. They should stick to Maryland cases. I fired them after I got fed up with having to do my own filings. What a shame.

I was represented by his previous firm. Upon my court date the prosecuting attorney spoke with me and offered me a pbj. The prosecuting attorney was unaware I even had representation. Mark shows up late, speaks with the prosecuting attorney, and told me he worked with them and got me a pbj (the same outcome it would have been if I didn't hire representation). His firm assured me in 3 years time expungement paperwork would be filed for free. Maryland law states that expungement paperwork for pbjs should be free. After calling Mark to expunge my record he outlined the fees for this service. I attempted to remind him of my situation. He constantly interrupted me and accused me of threatening him (no threat of any sort was made), and trying to coerce free legal services from him. Regardless if my issue was with the firm or not, the way in which he handled himself at court and the subsequent paperwork afterwards was very much unprofessional. I'm not surprised his reviews are what they are.

I hired Mr. Rollison to represent me in an accident case. The case was opened in 8/16 and has yet to get settled. Each time I speak with Mr. Rollison, I have to be sure to say as little as possible. This man has no idea how to treat his clients. He talks down to you. He is very rude and makes you feel as if you are on trial for simply getting an update on the case. My specific case somehow had to go to trial. The trial, due to an error on his offices part, is now postponed. I received another call from Mr. Rollison, in which I had to take a deep breath because his tone, pitch and delivery were going to be cold and accausative. As it turns out, the company that I am pursuing damages has another twist to this ongoing plot. Mr. Rollison then relates the perceived facts and tells me that "I am hard to believe." Wow! I was hit in an accident, the driver fleld, I got a police report, consulted your firm, received treatment for my injuries and now a year and change later, I supposedly fabricated the entire ordeal, according to Mr. Rollison. I am sure this is a way to get me to drop the case since its quite possible he cannot get me awarded compensation. I have never been treated so horribly. Your phone calls are returned by him with agitation, as if you are a bother. He has no patience yet he is there to represent those who are unfamiliar with the law. He is ALWAYS disrespectful to you as you are only making inquiries . And to this date, no results, no compensation. I feel as if this was a complete waste of time, effort and energy on my part for hiring him. I just now want him out of my life. I wish I could get another lawyer. The only thing I got was my insurance premiums raised as my company issued it as a hit and run. Mr. Rollison was even reprimanded by the Maryland bar association. I know that things happen quickly at the site of an accident but please do your research and NEVER hire this Mark Rollinson guy to represent you.

I hired Rollison to handle an auto accident case for me in which I experienced nothing but unprofessional and rude customer service. As a paying customer I would call once a month or less to check the status of my case which I would never receive a call back until I had called numerous times (7+). I would finally receive a call back, be told what would be done next, call again a month and a half later to touch base just to be told the same thing I was told wks prior. Nothing gets done, yet Mr. Rollison speaks to you as if you are wrong for trying to get the status of your case. His tone is very condescending and rude over the phone. I would NOT recommend anyone EVER giving their business to this firm. My accident occurred 8/2/2016... Today is 12/27/2016 and I just basically got into an argument (who does that as a professional) with him over the phone because I told him 11/2016 to just settle the case because I was done with the run around; and he never did. He claims he will settle today. Im sure that will take another 2 months before I can get a call back.

Was paid to complete paperwork on a case and file with the court. Did not do this and I had to constantly text her for a week before she finally told me that she had spoken to another lawyer about taking the case (without my permission). Finally, she told me to come get my money. Also tried to turn the opposite client against me even-though it was a simple topic that we both agreed on. Mixes cases together. I guess if you have the right name and right case then she will pick it up for you. I don't know, but she is the one that offered to take the case in the first place, through the 2nd party.... Oops on me.

What a Workers’ Compensation Lawyer Can Do for You

A workers’ compensation lawyer specializes in helping employees who are injured or become ill as a result of their job to receive the benefits they are entitled to under workers' compensation laws. These lawyers represent injured workers in claims for medical benefits, wage replacement, and other compensation related to workplace injuries or illnesses. They also help when claims are denied, benefits are delayed, or disputes arise with the employer or the insurance company.

Whether you've been injured on the job, developed an occupational illness, or are dealing with a denied workers' compensation claim, a workers’ compensation lawyer can help you navigate the claims process and ensure you receive the full benefits you deserve.

When Should I Hire a Workers' Compensation Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a workers' compensation lawyer in several situations, especially when complications arise during the claims process or when your rights as an injured worker are being challenged. Some common reasons to hire a workers' compensation lawyer include:

  • Claim denial: If your workers' compensation claim has been denied, a lawyer can help you appeal the decision and represent you in hearings or litigation.
  • Inadequate benefits: If the insurance company offers you a settlement that doesn’t cover your medical expenses, lost wages, or other damages, a lawyer can negotiate on your behalf for a fair amount.
  • Delay in receiving benefits: If your benefits are being delayed, a lawyer can help expedite the process to ensure you receive timely compensation.
  • Permanent disability: If your injury leads to permanent disability (partial or total), a lawyer can help you navigate the more complex process of securing long-term benefits.
  • Retaliation by employer: If your employer retaliates against you for filing a workers' compensation claim (e.g., by firing or demoting you), a lawyer can protect your rights and pursue legal action.
  • Third-party liability: If a third party (e.g., a contractor or equipment manufacturer) was responsible for your injury, a lawyer can help you pursue additional compensation through a personal injury lawsuit.
  • Pre-existing conditions: If your employer or the insurance company claims that your injury is related to a pre-existing condition, a lawyer can help you present evidence showing that the injury was work-related.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process can prevent delays, avoid mistakes, and ensure you receive all the benefits you’re entitled to under workers' compensation law.

What Does a Workers' Compensation Lawyer Do?

A workers' compensation lawyer provides a range of legal services to injured workers, ensuring that they receive the benefits they deserve. Their tasks often include:

  • Filing claims: Helping injured workers prepare and file their workers' compensation claims to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Appealing denied claims: Representing workers whose claims have been denied and guiding them through the appeals process, including hearings and court appearances.
  • Negotiating settlements: Negotiating with insurance companies to secure fair compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and other damages.
  • Handling disputes: Resolving disputes between the injured worker, the employer, and the insurance company regarding the amount of compensation or the nature of the injury.
  • Coordinating medical evidence: Gathering and presenting medical records, expert testimony, and other evidence to support the workers' compensation claim.
  • Advocating for benefits: Ensuring that injured workers receive all the benefits they’re entitled to, including temporary or permanent disability benefits, vocational rehabilitation, and medical treatment.
  • Filing third-party lawsuits: In cases where a third party is responsible for the injury, a workers' compensation lawyer may also pursue a personal injury lawsuit to recover additional damages.

How Are Workers’ Compensation Lawyers Paid?

Workers' compensation lawyers typically charge a contingency fee, meaning they only get paid if they successfully recover benefits for you. This fee is usually a percentage of the benefits awarded, and the specific percentage is often regulated by state law. Here's how it generally works:

  • Contingency fee: The lawyer's fee is typically between 15% and 25% of the total benefits awarded to you. You don’t have to pay any upfront legal fees, and the lawyer’s fee comes out of the settlement or benefit award.
  • No fee if no recovery: If the lawyer doesn’t recover any benefits for you, you generally don’t have to pay for their services.
  • State regulations on fees: Many states cap the percentage that workers' compensation lawyers can charge, and some states require the fee to be approved by the workers' compensation board or judge.

Be sure to discuss the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand how much you will owe if your case is successful.

How Much Does a Workers' Compensation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a workers' compensation lawyer typically depends on the contingency fee arrangement, meaning the lawyer’s fee will be a percentage of the benefits you receive. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fees: Most workers' compensation lawyers charge between 15% and 25% of the total settlement or benefits awarded. For example, if you receive $50,000 in benefits, the lawyer’s fee would range from $7,500 to $12,500.
  • State regulations: Some states limit the percentage that workers' compensation lawyers can charge. In these cases, the fee is usually capped, often at 20% to 25%, depending on state law.
  • Additional costs: Some lawyers may charge for out-of-pocket expenses, such as filing fees, medical records retrieval, and expert witness testimony, though these costs are typically deducted from the settlement after the case is won.

You should always ask for a clear explanation of fees and potential additional costs during your consultation so you understand the financial arrangement.

Top Questions to Ask a Workers' Compensation Lawyer

Before hiring a workers' compensation lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they are the best fit for your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with workers' compensation cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, especially if your injury is severe or the case involves disputes.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a contingency fee and whether there are any additional costs you need to be aware of.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case, including the potential challenges and outcomes.
  4. Have you handled cases like mine before?
Find out if the lawyer has experience dealing with cases involving similar injuries or disputes, such as denied claims or permanent disability.
  5. How long will the process take?
While it’s difficult to predict an exact timeline, the lawyer should be able to provide a general estimate based on their experience with similar cases.
  6. Will you personally handle my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of your case. Make sure you know who will be working on your claim.

How to Check the Credibility of a Workers' Compensation Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable workers' compensation lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing, with no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for workers' compensation experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in workers' compensation law and have successfully handled cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s expertise and service.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their experience in workers' compensation cases.
  • Check for professional affiliations: Membership in organizations like the Workers' Injury Law & Advocacy Group (WILG) or local bar association committees on workers' compensation can indicate the lawyer’s commitment to this area of law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with a workers' compensation lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Accident report or incident documentation: Bring any documentation related to your workplace injury or illness, including accident reports or notifications to your employer.
  • Medical records: Provide copies of medical records, including treatment notes, doctor’s reports, and any information related to your injury or condition.
  • Employer correspondence: Bring any letters, emails, or forms related to your claim from your employer or the workers' compensation insurance company.
  • Wage and benefits information: Provide information on your wages, benefits, and any lost income due to the injury.
  • List of questions: Prepare questions about your case, the process, costs, and what to expect moving forward.
  • Timeline of events: Prepare a timeline of the incident, your injury, and any medical treatment or communication with your employer and the insurance company.

Being well-prepared for your consultation will allow the lawyer to assess your case more effectively and provide you with the best possible legal advice.
