When I filed a homeowner’s insurance claim, the insurance company accepted responsibility. It also invoked its right to repair so that the insurer could hire its own contractors whom I didn’t know. That’s when the problems really began. After four months of delays the insurance company’s engineer finally provided the report and plans necessary for a permit. After more delays, the insurance company agreed to just pay a lump sum to settle the claim since it had done such a poor job of handling it. Before paying they demanded that I sign a release. I was uncomfortable so I asked Marc Ben Ezra of Florida Professional Law Group to review the release. Marc immediately told me there were numerous problems with the release and advised me not to sign. He also asked me to send him the insurance company’s estimate of the claim. He instantly noted numerous items that the estimate either omitted or significantly underestimated.
