Everyone was extremely helpful. I couldn't have done this without their assistance. Would definitely recommend them to anyone beginning the citizenship process.

I had an extremely disappointing experience with the Italian American Citizenship Assistance Program (ITAMCAP). Communication was consistently an issue – I often had to send multiple emails or call them directly just to get a response. It sometimes took repeated follow-ups before someone would finally address my questions or concerns. One instance stands out where they improperly ordered a record, causing further delays as we had to reorder it. During phone calls, the staff generally sounded disinterested and seemed almost annoyed by my calls, as other reviewers have also mentioned. Although they initially mentioned they would try to help me secure an appointment (see attached screenshot), this assistance never materialized. I ended up finally securing an appointment on my own. While I did receive my completed application packet, ITAMCAP’s services were bare minimum at best. Every time I interacted with a new team member, it became apparent that they were unfamiliar with key details of my file that I had already reviewed with other staff members. This lack of internal communication was frustrating and wasted my time. To make matters worse, my appointment was over a year ago, and not once did ITAMCAP follow up to check on how it went or to discuss any next steps, such as obtaining a passport. For anyone considering their services, I highly recommend instead joining the Dual U.S.-Italian Citizenship Facebook group, which now has over 75,000 members offering far more helpful insights and guidance than ITAMCAP ever did. Numerous group members have also shared similar experiences with ITAMCAP, so I know I’m not alone in my dissatisfaction. In the end, I was extremely displeased with ITAMCAP. Their service quality did not match the cost at all. For many people, a DIY approach with community support would be a better, less frustrating option. I used ITAMCAP. I qualified for dual citizenship and believed they were one of the best. They are a complete waste of your $$$. I was told so many things such as help would be provided to get an appointment with the Italian consulate here in the US. They were unresponsive to emails and phone calls and when they did respond the typical response was they were waiting for things to come back from Italy. This process took over ONE year! Not sure if that is typical timeframe. My case was very straightforward. No marriage, no children and both parents were born in Italy. Now that my account is paid and I have the documents I am unable to get an appointment with the Italian consulate because they are booked through 2026! They don’t care and each time I called or emailed a different person responding. If you ask for a specific person they say that person is in Italy and unavailable. They lead you to believe that you can “view” the status of your account online but they don’t update it routinely or their server is down and your account in inaccessible. Would NOT recommend them to anyone!

I have been working with ITAMCAP, to obtain dual citizenship, for several months. I'm still in the process, but so far it's been a great experience. I had an issue with one of my ancestors birth certificates, that was never corrected and they helped me to identify a path forward through the situation. Karen Carpenter has been incredible every step of the way. She is great at answering your questions and explaining everything you need to know. She is charismatic, easy to talk to and is very responsive. She has done a fantastic job being present through the process and easing any stress that may arise. Thank you so much Karen!
