During a job change I noticed that there were blatant inaccuracies in my background check from a particular company that provides background checks to employers. Essentially information from the wrong person was showing up on my background check despite them having a completely different name, gender, and social security number. I disputed this information with the background check company, but they were difficult to get a hold of and didn't provide a prompt resolution. I then reached out to Consumer Attorneys as they had experience with FCRA (Fair Credit Reporting Act) violations. As soon as I got consumer attorneys involved the background check company moved to correct their error. Not only was the error corrected but I ended up winning a settlement because of all of the issues that the background check company caused due to their negligence. Beth and Marie were wonderful to work with. While I was getting approved for a mortgage, I was declared deceased on my credit report. I tried to dispute with each credit bureau to no avail. My credit score tanked because my report kept showing deceased, and I wasn’t able to secure a loan in time because of my inaccurate credit report. I searched the internet looking to get some background info removed that I had expunged and found these guys. I had adverse action from a potential employer taken against me due to an infraction of FCRA by one of the major background check companies. They contacted me immediately by phone. I emailed them some documents to review and they informed me I may have a 'case'. There was a lot of communication in the beginning then it sort of tapered off. In the end, they claim the defendant had a case, too for whatever reason. So there would be a reward, just a small one, though. Which I didn't understand-- they either broke the law or they didn't. If they hadn't why would they pay you anything at all? Doesn't add up. And they supposedly got a settlement amount but the amount changed conveniently after I confronted them. Then to top it off, they say I was actually entitled to 'nothing' because their fees were more than the reward from the defendant. In the end, THEY were rewarded for incompetence and I was given an insulting consolation settlement. (Or I was blatantly lied to and to cut out altogether, jury is still out on that one) For future reference, if you guys don't have a strong case, just pass on it rather than overestimate your abilities. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. FIND A BETTER ALTERNATIVE.
