I've used Sean for my case in 2015-2016 and again in 2017-2020. My recent case made it to trial and Sean was very prepared and touched on all the strong points needed to ensure we had a successful trial. I am more than satisfied with Sean and his team and if it weren't for them, I don't think my case would've had such a great outcome.

Worst attorney. Save your money! He acts like he cares, talks about how he is a closer, listens to Grant Cardone and can get the job done. Outlined this great strategy and did not perform on any of it. As a matter a fact after stealing over $20,000.00 from me and wasting my time for almost a year, you know billing me monthly for nothing as he only responds to emails when the bill is due, he advised me that he does not have the skills to move forward because of my highly complicated case as I own business and real estate. He had a great strategy then folded with every email opposing council threw our way. Weak attorney. Highly recommend avoiding this guy at ALL COST!!!
From the beginning:
The onset of Covid. Courts pretty much shut down.
He billed me on average of $2,000 per month for almost a year (while courts were shut down, no hearings, no mediation. He stopped providing me billing statements. He failed to file motions that I asked him several times to file. He forgot the details of my case then spent and hour on the phone with me "remembering his strategy" you know while im paying for this hour. He is a scam!
He advised me I needed to hire and accountant, which I did, and advised him several times I did. After receiving a bill from my exes attorney to cover her cost he quit after almost a year with no progress stating that he did not have the experience and that I am not listening to his advise by retaining an accountant (which I did ) and he is not trained in higher income divorces.
So to recap:
1 year = loss of approx $24,000
Results: NOTHING
One hearing which we lost. He was manhandled by an older female attorney. After My ex retained her he called me and stated she was a very experienced litigator. Watching him deal with her was like watching a senior and a middle schooler competing. He was/is totally weak and worthless as an attorney. Great marketer and billing machine. But terrible weak attorney.
This is my opinion and my experience. I am filing a complaint with the Florida bar and pursuing options to sue for malpractice.
He is a weak Attorney. He will tell you what you want to hear to take your money. Comes in low then bills the hell out of you for... what?? 1 year, one lost hearing then quits.
Waste of time and money. Hire someone else.
I feel scammed. I have all the emails. All the times I have told him to file motions, that I hired an accountant, that he is not answering my questions. I have saved everything.

I was desperate to get the lien document because we are in the process of refinancing our House and it was the only document that I was waiting to close the deal. We paid what we owed but for some reason it took too long to drop the check to their bank to clear up until our Refinance processed got expired and I was so frustrated because we got everything done except the lien document. The person that I spoke to in the phone told me, it was not their fault because they sent the letter awhile ago to let us know what we owed. Very inconsiderate! first of all you don't know what we went through just to survive on this difficult time. It took over a month to processed our payments till now I don't have the lien document yet. I would not recommend this law firm.

I am so thankful that I had Sean and his team to help me through this difficult process. Their compassion and knowledge really helped to guide me. My opposition was very challenging, which created a lot of strain and stress for me, but Sean and his team were always quick to explain the situation and what our plan of action would be. If it weren't for their understanding, confidence, and support, I probably would have given up. Not only did they understand the legal process, they understood the mental process as well. Sean and his team picked up on this several times, such as when I was dragging my feet in the beginning because I was still in disbelief that it was all happening. Even with deadlines looming, they did not quit on me. Sage advice was given and they helped me through it. And lets not forget that my divorce basically started at the beginning of the pandemic! I am truly grateful for the help, guidance, and perspective that was provided to me.

I appreciate that Sean is working on gaining our trust back after our experience of hiring him & left feeling like what we set out to get done wasn’t able to.
Updated: although we did not fully get the outcome we truly believe should have back when we hired him in 2012 with the situation and circumstances from Mr. Smallwood’s work on our case. He did reach out to provide the documents we had asked for to see where the funds went & although I still believe our representation should have ended with better & more results as he had called it a “slam dunk case” at the first meeting, I now believe his intentions and understanding has dramatically changed at the new reviews he has received.

Sean seemed like a great attorney when we hired him. Unfortunately we were extremely disappointed. He was representing my husband for timesharing and child support. On top of being extremely impossible to get a hold of, after 9 months he has done absolutely nothing for our case. His paralegal Leiya is awful. Too many times did I have to call multiple times over several weeks to get her to do anything she was supposed to. It took several months just to get her to request Financials from the other party and another several months to get a rough draft mediation agreement, which had nothing in it we had discussed for our side of the case. If you want an attorney who will sit back in mediation, not fight for you, never contact you or do what he says, and a horrible paralegal, then Sean is your guy. Otherwise, save your money and go elsewhere.

I spent years, unsuccessfully attempting to have my child support modified because of my eldest son's emancipation. By use of paralegal services. I was finally convinced that I needed a lawyer.
Sean Smallwood offered me a good price for his services, considering that I had already done so much of the work myself. I hired Mr. Smallwood at the end of March 2015. Admittedly things didn't start very well. I didn't hear from his office for a couple months. It wasn't until I called at the end of June that we got things going. I waited a couple more months for a court date without any updates. Months passed and no court date. No one could figure out why we couldn't get a court date set up.
After ten months of this I decided to call the governor's office. Then I started receiving calls from the DOR, telling me how they weren't going to review my case, with legal language I couldn't understand. After several calls from the DOR, giving me every excuse under the sun, I had to wonder, "Isn't my lawyer supposed to be handling these things"? But, Finally, a court date was set. At the end of May 2016, a year later! Well, now I finally got my modification! My son is now 23yrs old. Except for now, almost three months later, after my court hearing, even though I have the final judgement, the DOR has not adhered to it . I immediately called Sean's office. It's taken a long time to get answers and have the DOR to do the right thing. I took a look at Mr. Smallwood 's reviews and found out that they were having issues with their office personnel. Mr. Smallwood has spoken with me and has offered to continue to handle matters. We have a court date set up now for clarification. I hope and trust matters in the office have been resolved. Because of the consideration Sean has shown me, I do hope that his law office will be a success. I have edited my review to show all things as they have proceeded in my opinion.

Bad experience with this attorney. Hired this attorney back in 2012 for modification of custody. After three years, the attorney asked for more money even though nothing new had been accomplished in two years. Attorney ended up withdrawing from my case after I refused to give more money. Would never recommend this attorney. Please educate yourself on attorney's before hiring this man.

Not a good attorney! Will make you pay all this great amount of money to end up removing himself from the case! Doesn't care about the client personally just after the money. Hands down not a good attorney to go to!
