Pros
1
The lawyer is patient and aggressive in fighting for his clients' interests, leading to the best possible results
“The best lawyer in Orlando, Mr. Suarez is patient but aggressive in fighting for his clients and getting the best possible results.”
2
The lawyer's office provides a full-service experience, with real estate, title company, and law all under one roof, making the process seamless for clients
“Attorney Suarez and his team including Realtor Karen Diaz not only helped me with my short sale without any problem but after 2 years helped me find my dream home. Their office have real estate, tittle company and law in one roof and I was able to close on the house without any issue in the contract.”
Cons
1
The lawyer is unprofessional, unresponsive, and more focused on financial gain than the client's best interests
“As attorneys they are not looking for your well being but rather only their financial gain. I went to Mr. Suarez for advice regarding filing a BK. Since they don't handle Chapter 13 cases he didn't tell me that my best option to keep my house was a Chapter 13.”
2
The lawyer charges high fees, even for initial consultations, and may refuse to refund deposits or provide full refunds
“Normally, for the first visit, attorneys DO NOT charge a fee, but he did and a very high fee. [...] When I came home, to my surprise, my neighbor came to my house to let me know that he had won the case in court and that the Board would have to replace his door ... LOL ... and here is Mr. Suárez telling me that 'you know, I charge $250.00 per hour and if lose the case you have to pay both attorneys, etc...etc...etc...'”
3
The lawyer may not be competent or knowledgeable enough to handle certain types of cases, leading to poor outcomes for the client
“As soon as I told them that I would not replace it, without my authorization, they came, stripped it, and left it in a miserable condition. [...] My neighbor decided to take the Association to court without an attorney, but I decided I would visit Mr. Suárez. After listening to me, the only thing he said was: 'And what do you want me to do?'”

Giving 1 star because 0 was not an option. Read the reviews and decide for yourself. This man is the definition of a thief. He will not fight for you and he will take your money.

Be careful who you hire, I hired this individual who is good for nothing, he is only good at reaching out and grabbing the money and he doesn't care at all about doing his job, he summoned me to sit in front of him and tell me very blatantly that we were going to lose my case and I wondered how we were going to prove my innocence, what a disappointment to know that if I had continued with this guy they would have locked me up for 25 years, he was immediately fired and thankfully I found an amazing lawyer who didn't even bother to charge me for a consultation and quickly discovered my innocence, his name is Martín L Roth, an excellent lawyer. Look up Martín L Roth and you will realize how great this lawyer is.

The group I represent had several very technical legal questions that we needed answered very quickly. Ms. Bertrand listened carefully to our problem, asked several questions on issues we had not even considered, and was able to get back to us with a detailed answer and recommendations on how we should proceed in a timly manner. Our group has never had full time legal consultants, but we do now. We highly recommend this firm and Ms. Bertrand in particular. She was very personable, easy to understand and she answered our question in a way that was easy for us who do not speak "legalize" to understand.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Orlando, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
