My dock association illegally towed my boat and fined me for causing a nuisance, when all I did was speak to management and post about the issue on our resident Facebook group. Can you imagine being fined for speaking to management and posting on Facebook? Separately, the association messed up and charged me less for my HOA dues so they retroactively added them in and demanded I pay the lump sum. I was on autopay since I moved in so I always paid what they charged. I didn’t pay the lump sum because of the illegal tow and fines. I figured we were even. However, this attorney decided to file a lien against my property. The amount I owed purportedly was $817 but the lien was for $1700. I asked for an explanation of the additional amount and said I would pay that amount if it was explained. The attorney said if they had to explain the amount, they would charge me more. They tacked on another $2,300 in legal fees to explain the amount. Can you imagine being charged $2300 to get an explanation that should have been readily available? This lawyer was hired by my association, which includes myself, and filed a lien against me without having the explanation of the amount. That’s insane! Who files a lien and can’t explain the amount of the lien when asked? This lawyer is supposed to represent the best interests of the association and reach amicable resolution. No association wants to alienate its residents but this lawyer’s actions are doing just that. The lawyer might claim he isn’t working for me but since I pay the association, he in fact is working for me. He called my attorney and said that he would decrease the $4000 total back to $1700 if I agreed to drop my lawsuit for the illegal tow. But, I gave this lawyer and my association over a year to reimburse me $500. Now I’ve spent $3,500 on a lawyer and they want me to drop the lawsuit? This lawyer should have had the wherewithal to tell the association to reimburse me before the lawsuit and all of this would have gone away. I clearly spelled out every statute the association violated in towing from private property. They have no legal justification for doing it and should have reimbursed me and this lawyer should have advised them to. But, this attorney only cares to line his own pockets, which is evident by his actions. I will be on the board next year and this attorney can find another HOA to scam. If you are looking for an attorney that only cares about his own pockets, and doesn’t care how much the association stands to lose, then look no further. No semblance of empathy. No semblance of human decency. No semblance of risk mitigation. These lawyers are the quintessential lawyers that give all lawyers a bad rep.

I contacted this lawyer for advice and I was very impressed. He doesn't practice in the area I need, but he was kind enough to take the time and refer me to someone else. Thank you!
